GEORGE HAYDEN JR.

George Hayden Jr., 43, of Indiana, Pa., formerly of Tarrs, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the Indiana Hospital. He was born Feb. 10, 1957, in Mt. Pleasant. George was a graduate of Southmoreland High School with the Class of 1975. He was also a graduate of the Commercial Truckers School of Dallas, Texas , and was a veteran, having served with the Pennsylvania National Guard. He was a member of St. Michael's Orthodox Church of Greensburg. He is survived by his mother , Betty Miller Hayden, of East Windsor, Conn., formerly of Tarrs; and a sister, Donna Gilbert and her husband, William, of Stamford, Conn. He was predeceased by his Father , George Hayden Sr., in 1997. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at which time his funeral service will be held with the Right Rev. Father John Nosal officiating. Interment will be private.

KENNETH J. HAYS

Kenneth J. Hays, 85, of Greensburg, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Dec. 2, 1914, in Greensburg, a son of the late Harry W. and Stella Michalsky Hays. He was Protestant by faith. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by five brothers , Eugene F., Lawrence G., Charles S., Harry A. and Jack Hays. He is survived by two sisters , Eva L. Hays of Greensburg and Mary Lou Leasure and her husband, James, of Scottdale. Friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert C. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillview Cemetery.

ANN HEGYES

Ann Hegyes, 81, of Layton Hill, Pa., died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at 5:50 p.m., in her home. She was born Feb. 20, 1919, at Linn Station, Brownsville, a daughter of the late Michael and Anna Puskar Adams. Ann was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Perryopolis. She was an employee of the Perry Auto Auction, working in the kitchen. Survived by her husband, Pete Hegyes; the following children: Peter E. Hegyes and wife, Faye, of Perryopolis, Richard M. Hegyes and wife, Sheryl, of Mt. Pleasant, Ms. Thomasine G. Homsher of Layton Hill, Pa., and Robert J. Hegyes of Layton Hill, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Mark, Kelli, Dawn, Michael, and Scott Hegyes, Patricia Homsher and Danielle Caschera; two great-grandchildren, Aaron and Megan Hegyes; two brothers and a sister, Michael Adams of Eagle River, Alaska, John Richard Adams of Warren, Ohio, and Mrs. Thomas (Barbara) Vargo of Fayette City. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters . Friends will be received in the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME INC., 106 E. Independence St., Perryopolis, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where Panachida services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Perryopolis, with the Rev. Father Robert E. Halus as celebrant. Interment St. Nicholas Cemetery, Perryopolis. Parastas services will be held Friday at 3 p.m.

VERONICA N. NAVE

Veronica N. "Vonnie" Nave, 73, of Greensburg, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Nov. 12, 1926, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Nicholas P. and Nicoletta "Pauline" Cavalier Mirolli. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed at the former Revco Drug Store in Greensburg. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jacob "Jake" R. Nave; three brothers , Thomas C., Francis N., and Arthur D. Mirolli; and a sister, Esther Welsh. She is survived by a son, Robert R. Nave and his wife, Paula, of Harrison City; two grandchildren, Heather and Shaun Nave; a brother, Nicholas F. Mirolli and his wife, Louise; a sister, Marie Nave and her husband, Donald, of Greensburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. There will be no public visitation. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, Greensburg. Entombment will follow in the Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make memorial contributions to their favorite charity. BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, Greensburg, is in charge of arrangements.

GEORGE C. SHOEMAKER

George C. Shoemaker, 79, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Greensburg, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at his home. Born Dec. 19, 1920, in Greensburg, a son of the late Chalmer G. and Ellabretta Fulmer Shoemaker. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a welder, and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater with the 5th Field Artillery Battalion. Surviving are a brother, Edward C. Shoemaker, of Greensburg RD1; a half brother, Marvin Nahrbecki, of Mercer, Pa.; and a sister, Minerva Gongaware, of Boardman, Ohio. There will be a private family viewing at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison, today, to be followed by a graveside service at the St. Clair Cemetery, Hempfield Township, with the Rev. L. Samuel Scheiderer officiating.

MAX H. STIFFLER

Max H. Stiffler, 73, of Valley View Road, Bedford, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the Altoona Hospital. He was born May 9, 1926, in Derry, a son of the late Homer and Rhea (Horner) Stiffler. On Oct. 26, 1949, in Winchester, Va., he married Charlotte McGinnis, and she survives, along with four children, Barry L. Stiffler, married to the former Molly Bolan of Virginia Beach, Va., Gregory L. Stiffler, married to the former Sherry Schlosser of Enola, Max L. Stiffler, married to the former Doris Turner, and Charlene, wife of Duane Dollar, both of Bedford. Also surviving are five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters , Nancy Hanna of North Carolina and Mona, wife of Pete Mattola, of Connecticut. He was preceded in death by a brother, James; and a sister, Helen Robb. Mr. Stiffler was a World War II Navy veteran who served in the Pacific on the carrier USS Sangamon. He was a member of the Bedford Elks Lodge #1707, where he served as secretary. He was also a member of the Bedford American Legion Post 113. He was an avid golfer and woodworker. He retired in 1986 after 35 years with Kennametal Inc., where he worked as an industrial engineer. Funeral services Saturday at 11 a.m. from the TIMOTHY A. BERKEBILE FUNERAL HOME in Bedford with the Rev. Mary Hendricks officiating. Burial in Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where there will be an Elks memorial service at 8 p.m. Those wishing may make contributions to the American Cancer Society, Bedford Unit, 117 W. Pitt St., Bedford, in his memory.

KATHERINE BACHMAN ZEBROSKI

Katherine Bachman Zebroski, 90, of Greensburg, formerly of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Monroeville, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, in the Greensburg Nursing and Convalescent Center. She was born Sept. 14, 1909, in Monroeville, a daughter of the late George and Stella Cain Bachman. She was Protestant by faith. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as an executive secretary by Westinghouse in Pittsburgh. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert Zebroski; and two brothers , Paul and Robert Bachman. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, including Beverly Bachman of Greensburg RD14. There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 16, at 3 p.m. in the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, Greensburg, with the Rev. Randall R. Roda officiating. Should friends desire, memorials may be placed with the Women's Center and Shelter of Pittsburgh, P.O. Box 9024, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.

HOMER F. BUSH

Homer F. Bush, 80, of Greensburg RD3, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at his home. He was born May 26, 1919, in Greensburg, the son of the late James and Dora Keibler Bush. He was a retired employee of Loughran's Pharmacy and a member of the First Lutheran Church in Greensburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two daughters . Surviving are his wife, Ruth M. Bush; daughter, Sandra and her husband, James France, of Greensburg; granddaughters, Stephanie and Andrea; and aunt, Sara Pfister of Greensburg. Friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Services will be held at the First Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. E. Allen Scanlon officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. Should friends desire, the family wishes memorials to the First Lutheran Church.

CHERYL J. CHARLESWORTH
Cheryl J. "Sherry" Charlesworth, 37, of Harrison City and formerly of McKeesport, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000. She was a court reporter for Judge John Driscoll in Westmoreland County Courthouse, Greensburg. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church in West Mifflin and a leader of the Harrison City Boy Scouts Troop Pack #230. Also, she was a 1980 graduate of McKeesport High School and a graduate of ICM School of Business, Pittsburgh. She is survived by her husband, Dale K. Charlesworth; her mother , Dolores Freeman of McKeesport; two children, Jody and Chad at home; three sisters , Mariann Swauger, Dolores Wilson, and Cindy Marks; three nieces and a nephew; aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her mother -in-law and Father -in-law, Hazel and George Charlesworth. Friends were received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JENNIFER S. JORDAN FUNERAL HOME INC., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak, (412) 672-6322. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, West Mifflin. Burial Parish Cemetery.

CHARLES M. CHRISTNER SR.

Charles M. "Chick" Christner Sr., 82, of West Newton, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Born Jan. 7, 1918, in Marguerite, he was a son of the late Walter and Elizabeth Ramsey Christner. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed for 35 years by U.S. Steel, National Tube Works, in McKeesport. He was awarded the Bronze Star as a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army with the 45th Infantry in Europe and Africa. He was a member of VFW Post 7812, West Newton, Collinsburg Liederkranz and the L.O.O.M. #1358, Sutersville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie (Johnston) Christner, in 1994; a daughter, Kathy Risku, in 1997; two sisters , Sarah Ashbaugh and Arlene Sheard; and three brothers , Glenn, Arnold and Richard Christner. He is survived by his son, District Justice Charles M. Christner Jr. and wife, Patricia, of Rostraver Township; three grandsons, James and wife, Laurie, John and wife, Tracy, and Christopher and wife, Desiree; three great-grandchildren, Jenna, Megan and Christopher Jr.; a brother, Ernest Christner of Jamestown, N.Y.; and a sister, Dorothy Weyandt of New Stanton. Friends were received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. S. Miles McConnell officiating. Interment in Olive Branch Cemetery, Smithton. FRANCES MARY LIPINSKI DiBERNARDO

Frances Mary Lipinski DiBernardo, 60, of North Versailles, formerly of Export, on Monday, March 6, 2000, in the Braddock Hospital. Mrs. DiBernardo was born Jan. 29, 1940, in Export, a daughter of Margaret Como Lipinski and the late Edward Lipinski. She is survived by her husband, Joseph. Loving mother of Lisa DiBernardo of Jefferson Borough and Joe and his wife, Stacy, of Illinois; grandmother of Aryana and Joey; and sister of Edward Lipinski of Virginia and Geraldine Berger of Monroeville. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Friends were received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME INC., 7441 Washington St., Swissvale. A Mass will be celebrated in the St. Robert Bellarmine Church, North Versailles, Friday, March 10, at 10 a.m. Interment in the Braddock Catholic Cemetery, Braddock Hills.

CARMELA DENTE GRIPPO

Carmela Dente Grippo, 92, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born March 13, 1907, in Altoona, a daughter of the late George A. and Rose Menza Dente. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral and the sons of Italy Lodge America #735. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Grippo; infant sister, Yolanda; and brother, Giacomo. Surviving are her children, Anna Marie Grippo, with whom she made her home, Paul Grippo Jr. and wife, Katie, and Rose Grippo, all of Greensburg; brothers , Anthony Dente and wife, Charlotte, of Chandler, Ariz., Romeo Dente and wife, Marietta, of Altoona and James Dente of Phoenix, Ariz.; and sisters , Juliet Fiore and husband, Nicholas, of Altoona and Italia DeBernardis and husband, Joseph, of Seneca Falls, N.Y. Also survived by granddaughters, Maureen Everett of Greensburg and Barbara Dawson and husband, Eric, of Belle Vernon; great-grandson, Matthew Dawson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 12:30 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. Entombment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.

EVELYN R. HAMILTON

Evelyn R. "Deb" Hamilton, 86, of Loyalhanna, formerly of Pleasant Unity, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Sept. 15, 1913, in Bedford, a daughter of the late William and Margaret (Howsare) Hafer. She had been a member of the Pleasant Unity United Methodist Church. Deb loved flower gardening and tending to her animals. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morris S. Hamilton; an infant daughter, Rebecca; a grandson, Elias Rourke Jr.; four brothers , William, Chauncey, Kenneth, and Richard Hafer; and two sisters , Cora Clark and Olive Wigfield. She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Rourke of Berlin; five grandchildren, Carolyn Bollman, Kathleen Williams, and Edward, Boyd and Dale Rourke; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, George Hafer; and a sister, Armilda Sachs. Friends will be received at the GAUT-BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Pleasant Unity, Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Clark R. Kerr officiating. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township.
