Formerly of McCandless

Arlene A. Fehrer, 72, died Thursday, July 13, 2000, in St. Barnabas Medical Center, Richland. Mrs. Feher worked for the Clark Candy Co. for many years. Survivors include a son, Duane Kern of Monroeville; a brother, Dayle Heffner of Lynchburg, Va.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Feher. There will be no visitation. Services are private. Arrangements are by George A. Thoma Funeral Home, 10418 Perry Highway, McCandless.

Dorothy M. Fischer
North Side

Dorothy M. Fischer, 88, of the North Side, died Thursday, July 13, 2000 in West Penn Hospital. Born December 12, 1911 in Confluence, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lenora Miller Butler. She worked as a registered nurse in West Penn Hospital until retiring. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis B. Fischer. She is survived by one daughter, Doris R. Gehry of Troy Hill; one son, Ronald C. Fischer of Shaler; three sisters , Jean Shipley, Ethel Thomas and Betty Petruna; one brother, Harry Butler; nine grandchildren and 21 great granchildren. Friends will be recieved from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday in T.B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Hwy., Ross. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Kelly Mills officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Royal Cemetery, Shaler. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church Camp and Conference Center, Ligonier.

Robert J. Garshak
West Mifflin

Robert J. "Garsh" Garshak, Esq., 64, of West Mifflin, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000. Survived by Karen Cirrincione, Margaret Garshak; daughters , Pamela Stanton, Patricia Garshak Sterba and Renee Brekosky; proud grandfather of Jesse R. Garshak, Emily and Max Stanton; nephew of Julia Medich, Melva Radakovich; and many cousins. Garsh was a member of the 400 Club of Nemacolin Woodlands, the Duquesne Golf Association, the Beaver Creek Anglers Association and the Serbian National Federation. A life celebration will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Baltimore House, 176 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. All friends are invited to share memories. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 700, Pittsburgh, PA 15235. Arrangements by JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME INC., Pleasant Hills.

Elmer M. 'Mike' Grubbs
Mars

Elmer M. "Mike" Grubbs, 79, died Thursday, July 13, 2000, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Butler. Born July 14, 1920, in Avalon, he was the son of the late Thomas E. and Mable M. Light Grubbs. Mr. Grubbs was an Army veteran of World War II who served as a sergeant major of 104 Ord. Co. 29th Infantry. He was a retired lineman from Duquesne Light. He was a member of the Mars Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Avalon Lodge 657 of the Free & Accepted Masons. Survivors include his wife, Anna Petrovich Grubbs; two daughters , Aleta Joy Tirk of Butler and Mary Ann Poth of Evans City; a son, Thomas Grubbs of Butler; six stepchildren; a sister, Suze Goldstron of Cranberry; two grandchildren; and 11 stepgrandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. until services at 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, Inc., 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. The Rev. Nancy Zahn, pastor of Valencia United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Hampton Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Valencia United Methodist Church.

William Herman Hensler
Irwin

William Herman Hensler Sr., 77, of Irwin, died Friday, July 14, 2000, at his home. He was born Sept. 6, 1922, in North Irwin, a son of the late John A. and Mary Boyle Hensler. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a supervisor for shipping at Westinghouse, East Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Irwin, and its ushers club. He was a lifetime member of the L.O.O.M. #236 of Irwin, a lifetime member of the Jacktown Ride and Hunt Club, a lifetime member of the Irwin Volunteer Fire Department, the Westmoreland County, the Pennsylvania , and the Western Pennsylvania firemen's associations, and was also a member of the Westinghouse Clerks Association and the Westinghouse Fellowship Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers , T.L., Jack and James Hensler; and two sisters , Catherine Lewis and Anna Weaver. He is survived by his wife, Jennie Mae Mistero Hensler; three children, Victor Hensler and his wife, Grace, of Moore, S.C., Jennifer Nagoda and her husband, Jeff, of Irwin, and William H. Hensler Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Manor; four grandchildren, Bradley, Tyler and Jessica Hensler and Alan Quinn; a brother, Robert E. Hensler of Adamsburg; and two sisters , Mary M. Dugan of Florida and Gertrude Sullivan of North Irwin. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH F. OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., 504 Oak St., Irwin, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 1O a.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, North Huntingdon.

Carl P. Izzo Jr.
Hempfield

Formerly of Greensburg and Penn Hills

Carl P. Izzo Jr., 43, of Hempfield Township, formerly of Greensburg and Penn Hills, beloved husband, Father , and son, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, in a Columbia, S.C., hospital, following complications after a bone marrow transplant. He was born at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, base hospital, Oct. 2, 1956, to Lt. Carl P. and Kathryn Campbell Izzo of Murrysville. He graduated from Penn Hills High School, earning numerous scholastics and activity awards and was a National Merit Scholar. Penn State University granted him the B.S. degree in speech and communications. After a three-year career as a radio personality and station manger at AM and FM stations in New Kensington, Uniontown and Connellsville, Pa., and Williamson, W.Va., he entered Duquesne University Law School, where he was awarded the doctor of jurisprudence. He was executive editor of the Law Review. During his professional career as a practicing attorney, he was licensed to practice law by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania . He was a member of the Pennsylvania , Westmoreland, Fayette and Allegheny County Bar Associations and the National Bankruptcy Institute. After admission to the bar, he joined the staff of Webster & Webster in Uniontown. He served as juvenile prosecutor for Fayette County and assistant solicitor for the Fayette County Children's Bureau. He founded the law firm of Izzo and Cavanaugh, with offices in Greensburg, which handled bankruptcy cases, small business matters, real estate transactions and decedent estates. He was a member of the standing panel of Chapter 7 trustees for the United States Bankruptcy Court in the Western District of Pa. with responsibility for cases filed in a nine county area. He was a receiver in consumer fraud cases for the Federal Trade Commission. In April 1999, he received the Pro Bono Award from the Westmoreland County Bar Association and in March 1999, he received the Pro Bono Award from the Pennsylvania Bar Association for work performed throughout 1998 and 1999. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout at age 13. A member of the Order of the Arrow, he served as a merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts of America and was assistant post commander of the Law Explorer post in Fayette and Westmoreland counties. He was a life member of Alpha Phi Delta fraternity, initiated at Chi Chapter, Penn State University, having his Father and grandfather in attendance. He was a member of the board of directors of the housing corporation of Chi Chapter, Alpha Phi Delta. He was a Sir Knight of the Knights of Columbus, having taken the 4th Degree. He was past Grand Knight, trustee and member of the board of directors of Greensburg Council #1480; a district deputy of the 81st District, State Legislative Chairman and former state advocate for the jurisdiction of Pa. He and his family are members of the Our Lady of Grace Church in Greensburg. He was formerly a member of Our Lady of Victory Church choir in Harwick, Pa. He served on the steering committee of the Greensburg Diocese Aquinas Academy. In addition to his parents, he will be sadly missed by his wife, Maria Claire Spinabelli Izzo; adoring children, Emily Grace, Maria Kathryn Izzo and Carl P. Izzo III, all at home; sisters , Cynthia I. Atterbury and husband, Doug, of York, Sandra I. Rudisill and husband, Jim, of Monroeville and Linda I. DeFrancesco and husband, Bobby, of Greensburg; maternal grandmother, Mrs. John C. Campbell of New Kensington; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends will be received at the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME, 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, (724) 837-0020, www.pantalone.com, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in the Our Lady of Grace Church. Interment will follow in the St. Clair Cemetery, Hempfield Township. The Knights of Columbus will hold services Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, an educational trust fund will be established for the children of Carl P. Izzo Jr. All contributions should be made payable to the Izzo Children Educational Trust, at 128 E. Mary T. Jerome
McCandless

Mary T. Jerome, 84, of McCandless, died on Friday, July 14, 2000 in UPMC Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born in Pittsburgh on June 6, 1916, daughter of the late James and Marie Donovan Harpur. She is survived by one son, Mabon F. "Sonny" Jerome, Jr. of Butler; two daughters , Jacquelyn Karol of New York and Joann Hayden of McCandless; one sister, Agnes McDowell; two brothers , Kevin Harpur and John Harpur Jr.; and five grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Mabon F. "Jerry" Jerome, and a brother, Thomas Harpur. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday in THOMAS B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, Ross. A Christian Funeral Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in St. Sebastian Church, Ross. Interment will be in Allegheny County Memorial Park.

Victoria M. (Studnicki) Kalisz
Overbrook

Victoria M. (Studnicki) Kalisz, of Overbook, on Thursday, July 13, 2000. Wife of John A. Kalisz. mother of Victoria M. Carney and Paul J. Kalisz. Sister of Joseph, Cecilia Murphy, Adam and the late Thaddeus Dominic Studnicki and Mary Hale. Also eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the BORON FUNERAL HOME INC., 1719 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial Saturday at noon in St. Norbert Church.

John Kopicko

John Kopicko, 79, died July 14, 2000, at his home.

Born June 10, 1921, he was the son of the late Stanislaus and Juliana Rudski Kopicki. Mr. Kopicko was an Army Veteran of World War II. He was a retired employee of Westinghouse Electric. He was a member of St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, Sharpsburg. Mr. Kopicko was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars POst 709 in Sharpsburg. Survivors include a sister, Regina Kopicko; two brothers , Alexander Kopicko and Joseph Kopicko, both of Pittsburgh; a dear friend, Gertrude Kulik of Sharpsburg; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers , Stanley Kopicko and Adam Kopicko. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Worrell Funeral Home, corner of Main and Ninth streets, Sharpsburg. Christian Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, Sharpsburg, with the Rev. Andrew C. Fischer. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Shaler.

Catherine V. Krautz
Greensburg

Catherine V. "Katie" Krautz, 83, of Greensburg, died Thursday, July 13, 2000, in the Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. She was born May 13, 1917, in Hempfield Township, a daughter of the late George Sr. and Elizabeth Bellus Opsitnick. She was a member of the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers , Joseph, Michael, Stephen and George Opsitnick. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Michael Krautz; by two sons , Michael Jr. and his wife, Nancy Ann Krautz, of New Stanton and Ronald J. and his wife, Susan Krautz, of Greensburg; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, John Opsitnick of Greensburg; a sister, Libby Morelli of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Friends were received Friday at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel C. Mahoney officiating. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
