CAREY, Floyd B. on April 21, 2009, of Shamokin PA, formerly of Camden and Palmyra. Age 86. Beloved husband of the late Selma M. Carey (nee Lutts). Loving father of Sharron R. Morgan of Delanco NJ, Raymond F. Carey (Trish) of Estelle Manor NJ, William A. Carey of Sunbury PA, Shelley M. Reynolds (Jim) of Jacksonville FL, Timothy A. Carey (Kathy) of Lansdale PA, Tracy M. Snyder of Shamokin PA and Floyd B. Carey, Jr. of Harrisburg PA. Dear grandfather of 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Mr. Carey was a decorated veteran of the US ARMY serving during WWII in and was a recipient of the Bronze Star for Valor and the Purple Heart. Mr. Carey was employed for many years in Camden and Burlington Counties performing appraisals and inspections for Camden Trust and the Federal Housing Admin. He was the proprietor of Carey & Sons General Contracting and was an assistant director and manager for Urban Renewal in Camden from 1967-1972. In 1973, Mr. Carey was recruited to Shamokin PA by the late Lawton Shroyer where he was Executive Director of the Shamokin Redevelopment & Housing Authorities. He remained Executive Director of the Housing Authority until his retirement in 1989. He was instrumental in the success and recognition of the Shamokin Redevelopment Authority. Mr. Carey obtained funding and administered many projects which greatly benefited Shamokin, such as; the Bunker Hill Redevelopment Project, the Fifth St. Flood Control project and numerous playgrounds, including Bunker Hill, Second and Fifth Sts. Playgrounds and the project of which he was quite proud was the funding and construction of Shamokin's 2nd elderly hi-rise. Mr. Carey was successful in lobbing for the federal funding and construction of the Lincoln Towers and he was a founding member of the Shamokin Housing Association which still manages the Lincoln Towers today. He was also a member, officer and Board member of the Pennsylvania Assoc. of Housing and Redevelopment Agencies. Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing on Saturday from 9:30-10:30am at the Bradley Funeral Home Rt. 73 and Evesham Rd. Marlton where a Funeral Service will be held at 10:30am. Interment New St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr. If desired, donations may be made in Floyd's memory to the Alzheimer's Association 399 Market Street, Suite 102 Philadelphia, PA 19106.
