Charles A. Ansell

Charles A. Ansell, 88, of Uniontown, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born June 20, 1912, in Connellsville, a son of the late George and Minnie Works Ansell. A brother, Raymond Ansell, and two sisters , Mabel Koehler and Hazel Ansell, also preceded him in death. Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Rapson Ansell; two sons , Kenneth Ansell and C. Ray Ansell, both of Uniontown; four grandchildren, Lisa, Christopher, Raymond and Barbara Ansell; a brother, James Ansell of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and two sisters , Edna Ansell of Uniontown and Helen Craig of Baltimore, Md. Mr. Ansell attended the Uniontown Free Methodist Church, was a member of Fayette Lodge #228 F&AM, Circle Club, and played dartball for the Central Christian Church. He served with the U.S. Army and was retired from the gas and oil business after 30 years. Friends will be received in the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. James B. Jobes and the Rev. Roger Yeager co-officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery. The Circle Club will hold services Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and Fayette Lodge #228 will conduct services Sunday at 7:30 p.m., both in the funeral home.
Ginevra G. Barella
Ginevra G. Barella, 101, of Burbank, Calif., formerly of Greensburg, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, in the Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, Burbank, Calif. She was born Jan. 4, 1899, in Italy, a daughter of the late Flaminio and Diglia Forzanni Cresci. She was a member of St. Finbar Catholic Church, Burbank, Calif., the Catholic daughters of the Americas Court Seton #306 of Greensburg, and was a former member of the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Domenico S. Barella, on Sept. 14, 1976; and by several brothers and sisters . She is survived by two daughters , Mrs. Peter (Elsa) Bonfigli of Greensburg and Mrs. Renato (Florida) D'Ambrosio of Burbank, Calif.; four grandchildren, Lisa and her husband, Jon Brady, of Greensburg, Gilbert and his wife, Carla D'Ambrosio, in Italy, Leonard D'Ambrosio and his fiancee, Eden, of Burbank, Calif., and John and his wife, Ewa D'Ambrosio, of Los Angeles, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Elise, Ginevra and Stefano; a brother, Romio Cresci of Uruguay; and a sister, Martha Cresci of Italy. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg. Interment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Hempfield Township. The Catholic daughters of the Americas Court Seton #306 will meet at the funeral home Sunday at 3 p.m. to pray the rosary.

Stephen J. Bartok, 86, of Adamsburg, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, in Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. He was born Dec. 21, 1913, in Johnstown, a son of the late Stephen Bartok and the late Mary Patrick Bartok Balick. Prior to his retirement, he was an experimental sheet metal layout worker with Westinghouse, East Pittsburgh. He was a member of St. Boniface Church, Penn, and its Silver Threads; and a 50-year member of the Adamsburg Volunteer Fire Department. Also he was an avid carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Bartok; and a sister, Mary Sokol. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mary C. Cehler Bartok; a daughter, Mary Jane Steban and husband, Vincent, of Greensburg; a son, David Bartok and wife, Lillian, of North Huntingdon; two sisters , Betty Vicic and husband, Tony, of Allison Park and Catherine Fontana of Greensburg; a sister-in-law, Rosan Bartok; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday in St. Boniface Church at a time to be announced. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Latrobe. The Adamsburg Volunteer Fire Department will hold services Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Rev. Max G. Beck

The Rev. Max G. Beck, retired U.S. Navy chaplain, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000. He was a graduate of Concordia Seminary and also received a master's from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. Throughout his college days, he starred on the baseball, basketball, and track teams. After serving as Lutheran pastor for two years in Illinois, he received his U.S. Navy commission, and for the next 26 years, served as chaplain in most battle areas as well as shore duty in the U.S. and around the world. His last sea duty was chaplain on the Navy's largest aircraft carrier, USS Roosevelt. His love of sports continued through his Navy career and he was often featured on his station's sports page as their star player, coach and staunch supporter of the Navy sports program. After Navy retirement, Chaplain Beck served in Pittsburgh as chaplain for the Lutheran Extension Society. He has conducted services at most Lutheran, Missouri Synod churches in Pittsburgh. During this period, he earned a Duquesne University master's degree in education, a profession he held dear in his heart as a member of a family of educators. Chaplain Beck is survived by his wife, Margaret, and daughters , Julie and Wendy. Friends will be received Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at BEINHAUERS, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 531 N. Neville St., Oakland. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Anne Rose Bogesdorfer, 89, of Whitaker, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000. She was the wife of the late Wilhelm Bogesdorfer. Mrs. Bogesdorfer was the mother of two daughters . She had three brothers , one sister, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great grea grandchild. Friends will be recieved from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in GEORGE I. Doris M. (Peters) Bossart, 76, of Indio, Calif., formerly of Greensburg, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at home. She was born Oct. 15, 1923, in Greensburg, the daughter of the late John and Emma Kate (Cover) Peters. She was a member of the O.E.S. Chapter 400, Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne H. Bossart, in 1984; and a brother, John Peters. Survivors include two sons , Tim Bossart of Greensburg and Scott Bossart and wife, Karen, of Madison, Wis.; four daughters , Doris "Jeanne" Pitsenberger and husband, Graham, of Stanton, Va., Barbara Somers and husband, Jeffrey, of Indio, Calif., Linda Brigaman and husband, William, of Greensburg and Audrey Dell and husband, David, of Greensburg; 12 grandchildren, Todd and Paige Pitsenberger, Nathan and Jeremy Somers, Amy and Katie Brigaman, Haley, Drew and Abbey Bossart, and Brad, Missy and Brian Dell; and a brother, Karl Peters of Thousand Palms, Calif. Ruth I. "Dolly" (Good) Davis, 79, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of North Huntingdon, died Friday, July 7, 2000, at her residence. Born March 25, 1921, in Irwin, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Ruth E. (Wampler) Good. She had been employed as a cafeteria worker at the Norwin School District. She was a member of the Sarasota Alliance Church and a former member of the Norwin Alliance Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin L. Davis, in 1994; and a brother, Donald Good, in 1987. She is survived by a son and his wife, Dennis L. and Debbie Davis of North Huntingdon; a daughter and her husband, Dawna L. and the Rev. Ronald Hiers of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, Paul Good of Spokane, Wash.; three sisters , Effie Neidigh, Nellie Mae Auckerman and Naomi Raling, all of Spokane, Wash.; and three grandsons, Waylon Davis, and Seth and Josh Hiers. Patricia A. Dini, 62, of Greensburg, died Friday, July 7, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Dec. 6, 1937, in Philadelphia, and was Catholic by faith. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Philip Dini; a brother, Thomas Heston; and a sister, Marie Hegaman. She is survived by a son, Stephen C. and his wife, Katherine Dini, of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Patricia M. and her husband, Michael Gordon, of Greensburg; four grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie and Jessica Dini and Sean Gordon; a brother, Martin and his wife, Ella Heston, of Philadelphia; and two sisters , Catherine and her husband, Charles Seas, and Phyllis and her husband, Thomas Bergin, all of New Jersey. Irene O. Dull, 95, of Ligonier, died on Monday, July 3, 2000. Wife of the late Harry E. Dull Sr.; mother of Betty J. McCoy of Oakwood Hills, Ligonier, the late Harry E. Dull Jr. and the late Yvonne Costabile; grandmother of Larry McCoy of Johnstown, Bill McCoy of Oakland City, Ind., Sally McCoy of Carmel, Calif., Connie McCoy of Big Sur, Calif., Betsy Wright of Annapolis, Md., Wilford Dull of Oakland, Calif., Colleen Dull of Oakland, Calif., Kathy Kapalka of Wexford, Alvin Costabile of Greensburg, Jerlyn Keller of Boston, Mass., and John Costabile of Greensburg; sister of Gayle Nedrow of Donegal, the late Jake Ober, Roy Ober, Margaret Baker, Helen Kern, Mildred Eichler and Iva Jean Ober; also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. Mrs. Dull had lived a full, active life and was quite proud of her many accomplishments. Prior to her marriage and at the young age of 18, she had taught two years of elementary education to students in first through eighth grades. In 1940, Mrs. Dull had worked in the Norvelt Sewing Factory and during World War II, she was an inspector for the government. Later, she then sold Childcraft Books before becoming a salesperson for the Singer Sewing Machine Manufacturing Company, from which she had retired in 1969. Mrs. Dull was a great friend to many. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Friday, July 14, at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of Otterbein United Methodist Church, 111 College St. (where it meets West Otterman Street) in Greensburg. Dorothy A. Dunham, 82, of Ligonier RD2, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at her home. She was born Nov. 7, 1917, in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Daniel and Hazel Reeseman Lardin. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church of Ligonier, the Christian Fellowship Class, the Women's Bible Study, the Ligonier Eastern Star, and the Valley Grange. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Almquist; a brother, Daniel Lardin; and a sister, Marilyn Bauman. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Charles Dunham, whom she married Jan. 29, 1945; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Diane) Chupka of Rockville, Md.; a son-in-law, Wallace Almquist Jr. of Bettendorf, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Erin Wiggins, Wallace Almquist III, and Nicholas and Jocelyn Chupka.
