Alma F. Biser
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Alma Florence Biser, 81, of Waynesboro, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Born April 10, 1917, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Bertha Grace Piper Baker.
Her husband, Earl C. Biser, died in 1971.
She attended Waynesboro-area schools.
She worked as a stitcher at Carroll Shoe Factory, Mont Alto, Pa., and previously worked for Freeman Shoe Factory and Gettysburg Shoe Factory.
She was a member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro, and a former member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro.
She is survived by two sons, Donald Blubaugh of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Max Robert Blubaugh of Tomstown, Pa.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. Allan Mummert will officiate.
Visitation will be private.
Wilmer C. Shifflett
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Wilmer C. Shifflett, 96, of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 111 Mount Airy Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Feb. 10, 1902, in Swift Run, Va., he was the son of the late Bernard and Fannie I. Davis Shifflett.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth M. Hogan Shifflett, in 1982. They were married in March 1934.
He attended school in Swift Run.
He worked at Frick Co. He subsequently worked at Teledyne Landis Machine Co. in Waynesboro for 46 years, retiring in 1968.
He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro.
He was a member of Acacia Lodge 586 Free and Accepted Masons, Waynesboro; Harrisburg Consistory; Franklin County Scottish Rights Club; a life member of Mechanics Steam Fire Engine and Hose Co. No. 1; life member of Cumberland Valley Firemen's Association; a member of Franklin County Firemen's Association; Eagles Club Inc.; Order of the Owls Nest 1073; and Chapter 739 AARP, all of Waynesboro; and National AARP.
He is survived by a son, W. Kenneth Shifflett of Marriottsville, Md.; a sister, Ruth Padula of New Mexico; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Comer; and three brothers, Elmer Shifflett, George Shifflett and Earmon L. Shifflett Sr.
Services will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will be in Burns Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, with masonic memorial services conducted at 9 p.m. by Acacia Lodge 586 Free and Accepted Masons.

Elsie C. Kendall
BLAIRSVILLE, Pa. - Elsie Cornell Kendall, 78, of Blairsville, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at her home.
Born Dec. 12, 1919, in North Madison, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James S. and Belle Smith Cornell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Nelson Kendall, in 1990.
She was a graduate of Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn. She received her teaching certificate at I.U.P. and a master's degree at Penn State. She spent a year at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
She was a retired home economics teacher with the Blairsville School District.
She was a member of Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Blairsville, and was a Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by two sons, the Rev. James C. Kendall of Bandung, Indonesia, and Charles Kendall of Blairsville; two brothers, George Cornell of Blairsville and Sloan Cornell of Marienville; two granddaughters; and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by one son, John Kendall; one sister, Edna Mae Saunders; and two brothers, Sanford Cornell and Frank Cornell.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. The Rev. Bruce J. Theakston will officiate. Burial will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, Pa., with the Rev. James Kendall officiating.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at James F. Ferguson Funeral Home, 25 W. Market St., Blairsville; and Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Lucille T. Middleton
MARS, Pa. - Lucille T. Middleton, 75, of Mars, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, at her home.
Born Feb. 11, 1923, in Gerrardstown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. Townsend and Helen Marpole Townsend Butts.
She was employed by Perfection Garment Co., Jefferson Manufacturing Co. and Lora Lynn in Ranson, W.Va.
She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Mars.
She is survived by her husband, James Lee Middleton, whom she married in 1942; one daughter, Barbara Ann Harmison of Cranberry Township, Pa.; three sons, H. Wayne Middleton of Martinsburg, W.Va., Kenneth Lee Middleton of Leechburg, Pa., and Craig A. Middleton of Evans City, Pa.; one granddaughter; one niece; one great-niece; one great-great-nephew; and cousins.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Norman Townsend; four half sisters, Elizabeth Parkinson, Grace Yost, Mable Evans and Emma Wild; four half brothers, Frank Townsend, Clarence Townsend, Carl Townsend and Earl Townsend; and one grandson.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Louise Barrett will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Anderson P. Lewis
TORONTO, Ontario, Canada - Anderson P. "Andy" Lewis, 67, of 692 Briar Hill Ave., died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at Sunnybrook Health Science Center.
Born Feb. 17, 1931, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Maurice Fulton and May Anderson Lewis.
He was a draftsman for Otis Elevator Co., Toronto.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He attended St. James A.M.E. Church when visiting Chambersburg, Pa.
He is survived by three sisters, Ida Mary Lewis of Pittsburgh, Lillie Belle Albertson of Northampton, Mass., and Dr. Hester T. Lewis of Harvard, Mass.; one nephew; and one great-niece.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. W. Larry Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday two hours prior to the service.
Roy W. Brechbill
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Roy W. Brechbill, 89, of 2985 Jacks Mill Road, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, at Woven Hearts, Chambersburg.
Born Sept. 14, 1908, in Edenville, Pa., he was the son of the late Samuel J. Brechbill Jr. and Hattie Wenger Brechbill.
He was employed for 25 years as a tool and die maker for Fairchild Industries in Hagerstown, retiring in 1972.
He was a member of Church of the Brethren, Chambersburg.
He crafted grandfather clocks.
He is survived by his wife, Anna May Baldner Brechbill, whom he married on Dec. 23, 1937; two sons, Dale R. Brechbill of Edenville and Gary L. Brechbill of Collegeville, Pa.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Rhoda Baldner; one brother, Aden Brechbill; and one grandson.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Church of the Brethren, 260 S. Fourth St., Chambersburg. The Rev. Kenneth L. Gibble will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas, Pa.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Laurence D. Britt
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Laurence D. "Larry" Britt, 69, of 12059 Old Forge Road, died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Feb. 10, 1929, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Harry H. and Rheva A. Aronson Britt. He lived his early life in Frankfort, N.Y.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948 and the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950 to 1958. He rose to the rank of technical sergeant. While in the Marines, he was the communications chief.
Following the military, he was employed from 1958 to 1985 as a civilian at Fort Ritchie, Site R, in telecommunications. Following his retirement from Site R, he worked for Planning Research Corp. at Tysons Corner, Va., and then at General Telephone Electronics out of Washington, D.C., and Frederick, Md., office. Later he worked for Scientific Application International Corp. at Fort Ritchie. He also taught fly fishing at Hagerstown Junior College for a short time.
He was a member of Marine Corps League, William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Joe Stickel American Legion Post 15 and BPO Elks Lodge 731, all of Waynesboro; Antietam Fly Anglers, Hagerstown; National Brotherhood of the Jungle Cock; Federation of Fly Fishers; and National AARP.
He was the winner of the 1980 National Safety Council Award. He also was recipient of Department of the Army Commander's Award for Civilian Service for Exceptional Meritorious Service as a communications manager.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Miller Britt, whom he married on Sept. 11, 1971; one son, Robert Eugene Britt of Maryville, Tenn.; one brother, Richard G. Britt of Alameda, Calif.; two grandchildren; one uncle; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks and Pastor Ted E. Simon will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. Military graveside services will be conducted by Honor Guard of Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.

Mildred L. Stenger
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mildred L. Stenger, 88, a resident of Menno Haven and formerly of 365 Sollenberger Road, Chambersburg, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at Menno Haven.
Born Oct. 1, 1909, in Upper Strasburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Nellie Horn Heck.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald G. Stenger, in 1990.
She had been employed at the former Stanley Co., Chambersburg.
She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg, where she was a member of Buds of Promise Sunday School Class.
She is survived by two sons, William D. Stenger and Larry E. Stenger, both of Chambersburg; a sister, Mary G. Lester of Poultney, N.Y.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William Heck.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Revs. Lester F. Stine and Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
Viewing will be Monday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
