Francis E. Smith
NEEDMORE, Pa. - Francis E. Smith, 82, of Needmore, died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 1, 1916, in Hancock, he was the son of the late James and Cora Ritz Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Gallion Smith, in 1990.
He was a self-employed farmer and a bus driver for the Southern Fulton School District for 30 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in Germany, France and Belgium.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Resley Road, Hancock.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Ann Coffman of Hagerstown and Peggy Ann Hauman of Big Cove Tannery, Pa.; four sons, Harry James Smith, David Ritz Smith, Terry Lee Smith and Scott Edward Smith, all of Needmore; a sister, Anna Mary Norris of Fort Littleton, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ritz Smith, Charles Smith and John Smith.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Timothy Davis will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Hancock, where military graveside services will be conducted by Tri-State Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nathan R. Weaver
BOILING SPRINGS, Pa. - Nathan Ray Weaver, 38, of 162 Tanger Road, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, after a farming accident in South Middletown Township, Pa.
Born May 12, 1960, in Carlisle, Pa., he was the son of Paul M. and Ruth Petre Weaver of Boiling Springs.
He was a farmer.
He was a member of Churchtown Mennonite Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Thelma Jean Martin Weaver; two daughters, Susan E. Weaver and Sylvia M. Weaver; four sons, Jonathan L. Weaver, Mervin R. Weaver, Philip N. Weaver and Roger D. Weaver, all at home; six sisters, Anna Lois Weaver, Priscilla Weaver and Rachel Weaver, all of Boiling Springs, Rebecca Diller of Sparta, Tenn., Eunice Gordon of Bedford, Pa., and Rhoda Burkholder of Hagerstown; four brothers, Daniel Weaver and John Weaver, both of Boiling Springs, Timothy Weaver of Newburg, Pa., and Jacob Weaver of Rimersburg, Pa.; and his maternal grandparents, Russel and Emma Petre of Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Philip Weaver.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Churchtown Mennonite Church. David Wadel, Noah Rudolph, John Brubaker and Wendell Eberly will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and Monday one hour prior to services at the church.

Louise B. Fitz
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Louise B. Fitz, 71, of 373 E. Washington St., died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa.
Born July 18, 1927, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late S. Orville and Gladys L. Funk Brindle Sr.
She was a 1946 graduate of Chambersburg High School.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Chambersburg, for more than 50 years.
She was a member of South Penn Area Rose Society of Chambersburg.
She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Fitz; a daughter, Carol S. Galloway of Dallastown, Pa.; a son, Kevin L. Fitz of Chambersburg; a brother, Samuel O. Brindle Jr. of St. Thomas, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles E. Fitz Jr.; and a sister, Lois Brindle.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Revs. Donald C. Nolder and Mitchell M. Galloway will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
Viewing will be Monday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Esther J. Carbaugh
QUINCY, Pa. - Esther J. Fortney Carbaugh, 80, of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 12068 Cool Hollow Road, Greencastle, Pa., died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Sept. 6, 1918, in Quincy Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Mary E. Peiffer Fortney.
She was a 1937 graduate of Quincy High School.
She was a charter member of Seventh-day Adventist Church, Waynesboro, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin B. Carbaugh, whom she married Aug. 6, 1938; two daughters, Nancy J. Wolfenbarger of Kennett Square, Pa., and Tana R. Williams of Church Hill, Md.; four sons, Lonny B. Carbaugh and Perry G. "Pete" Carbaugh, both of Waynesboro, Orrin L. Carbaugh of Griffin, Ga., and Allen Jay Carbaugh of Greencastle; a sister, Mary Blue of Waynesboro; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara Myers, Ina Spangler and Mabel Hade; and two brothers, Harry and Irvin Fortney.
Services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1 E. Fifth St., Waynesboro. Pastors Dean R. Negri and David G. Woodruff will officiate. Burial will be in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain, Pa.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

Mary A. Hull
ARONA, Pa. - Mary Ann Hull, 86, a resident of Westmoreland Manor Home, and formerly of State Line, Pa., died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital in Arona.
Born May 11, 1912, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late William Lee Hull and Alice Irene Everets Hull.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Arona Nazarine Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy E. Ebersole of Arona; two sisters, Leila Robinson of Clear Spring and Thelma Eshelman of Smithsburg; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Spade and Grace Hull.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. Bishop Glenn Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Jacob R. Decker
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Jacob R. Decker, 78, of 36 N. Phillips St., died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Feb. 7, 1920, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Samuel L. and Cora Emma Talhelm Decker.
He attended Waynesboro-area schools.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.
He worked at Grove brothers Ice Cream, which later became Penn Dairies. He later worked for H.E. Hoover, and then for Good Lumber Co. in Quincy, Pa. He owned Decker Plumbing and Heating for 20 years, until his retirement.
He was a Protestant.
He was a life member of A.T.H.&L. Co. No. 1 of Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department, and John McLaughlin VFW Post in Waynesboro.
He is survived by his wife, Delorous Marker Decker, whom he married April 23, 1947; a son, Colby Decker of Waynesboro; two granddaughters; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Carrie G. Rook, Ruth Kriner, Blanche Grove, Clara Bleistein and Alice Decker; and two brothers, John C. Decker and Paul E. Decker.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Wilbur Sites will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

Lois E. Hoffman
SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - A memorial service for Lois Esther Snader Hoffman, 80, of Michaux Manor Nursing Home, and formerly of 120 Clayton Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., who died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, will be Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1:30 p.m. at Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, 117 S. Church St., Waynesboro. Pastor Brent K. Driver will officiate. A reception in the church social hall will follow. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
Marian R. Marks
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Marian R. Marks, 83, of 11686 Kimberly Drive, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.
Born Jan. 26, 1915, in Hancock, she was the daughter of Viola Williams Smith, of Johnstown, Pa., and the late Thomas Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Marks Sr., in 1971.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by six daughters, Nancy Jones of Greencastle, Delores Price of Mercersburg, Pa., Virginia Jenkins, Marian Mattress and Catherine Dawson, all of Chambersburg, and Carolyn Shaffer of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; seven sons, Joseph Marks Jr. of Chambersburg, Charles Marks of Potomac, Md., Steven Marks of Upper Marlboro, Md., Freddie Marks of Mercersburg, Robert Marks and Phillip Wayne Marks, both of Pittsburgh, and Reginald Marks of Forrestville, Md.; four sisters, Catherine Jones and Evelyn Jefferson, both of Cleveland, Josephine Russell and Madeline Clayborne, both of Johnstown, Pa.; and a brother, Thomas Smith Jr. of Johnstown; 53 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Adele Marks.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Patricia Tillman will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

Lois E. Hoffman
SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Lois Esther Snader Hoffman, 80, of Michaux Manor Nursing Home, and formerly of 120 Clayton Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Aug. 4, 1918, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Earl E. and Mary Graybill Snader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Hoffman, in 1995. They were married May 4, 1940.
She was a 1936 graduate of Waynesboro High School. She attended Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa.
She had been employed as a cashier at the former A & P, Waynesboro.
She was a member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by a daughter, Vera L. Rosenow of Trussville, Ala.; two sons, Gillian A. Hoffman of Bradford, Pa., and Edwin S. Hoffman of Arnold, Md.; and five grandsons.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly E. Hoffman, in 1994; and two brothers, Earl Snader and Robert Snader.
Memorial services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, 117 S. Church St., Waynesboro. Pastor Brent K. Driver will officiate. A reception in the church social hall will follow. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
