Nettie R. Hess
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Nettie Ruth Batten Hess, 66, of 547 W. Eighth St., died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Nov. 28, 1931, in Selma, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Mary Hicks Batten.
She was a 1950 graduate of Smithfield High School, Smithfield, N.C.
She was employed by Austin Hill of Waynesboro as a seamstress; and later as a teachers' aide at Fairview Elementary School, Waynesboro.
She attended Faith United Methodist Church, Waynesboro.
She was a member of the PTA at Fairview School; the National AARP; and South Chapter 2977 AARP, Waynesboro.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Robert A. Hess; a daughter, Susan Lynn Davidson of Walnut Bottom, Pa.; three sons, Robert A. Hess, John A. Hess and Richard T. Hess, all of Waynesboro; two sisters, Hazel M. Wolicki and Mary M. Bayne, both of Garner, N.C.; two brothers, Billy Batten of Kenly, N.C., and Coy Batten of Garner; nine grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor John D. Fickett will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Galen W. Mowen
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Galen W. Mowen, 75, of 42 N. Allison St., died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital.
Born July 4, 1923, in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Harry Clinton and Orpha Viola Johnston Mowen.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Margaret Mowen, in 1947.
He retired in 1985 from the former Fairchild Aircraft Co. in Hagerstown.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the European Theater during World War II.
He was a member of Antrim Assembly of God Church, Greencastle.
He enjoyed reading.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Ethel L. Repp Mowen; a daughter, Orpha V. Cline of Hagerstown; a stepdaughter, Jenny L. Clark of Mercersburg, Pa.; a sister, Betty Brechbiel of Greencastle; five brothers, Eldon Mowen, Aubrey Mowen and Gerald Mowen, all of Greencastle, Rollo Mowen of State Line, Pa., and Everett Mowen of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Antrim Assembly of God Church, 11192 Bemisderfer Road, Greencastle. The Rev. Rodger Berkey will officiate. Burial will be in Shank's Church of the Brethren Cemetery near Greencastle. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Chambersburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Monday one hour before services at the church.

Lee Weddle
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Lee Weddle, 50, of 547 Broad St., and formerly of 13478 Waterloo Road in Waynesboro, Pa., died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Feb. 21, 1948, he was the son of Joseph G. and Alice Weddle Jr. of Waynesboro.
He was a 1966 graduate of Spray Berry High School in Marietta, Ga.
He worked for Landis Machine Co. in Waynesboro as a grinder.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rouzerville, Pa., and attended Grave Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Karen L. McLucas of Orrtanna, Pa.; two brothers, Kenneth E. Weddle of Chambersburg and Paul Earl Weddle of Waynesboro; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Wyatt W. Weddle, in July 1998.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home at South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. William Kesecker will officiate. Burial will be in Jacobs Church Cemetery in Fountain Dale, Pa.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Elmira Zeigler
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Elmira Brewbaker Zeigler, 88, of 45 E. Second St., died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at her home.
Born Feb. 14, 1910, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Cleveland and Grace Elizabeth Spangler Brewbaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Zeigler, in 1964. They were married Sept. 4, 1926.
She attended Waynesboro schools.
She was employed by Waynesboro Knitting Mill as a machine operator.
She was a member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro.
She was a member of National AARP.
She is survived by a daughter, June M. Hopkins of Mystic, Conn.; a sister, Mabel C. Mentzer of Waynesboro; a granddaughter and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, John F. Hopkins Jr.; a sister, Mary Louise Dubbs; and two brothers, Ralph Brewbaker and Edward Brewbaker.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Wilber L. Sites Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
There will be no viewing, but the family will receive friends Monday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

William R. Rave
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - William R. "Bill" Rave, 72, of 100 Nottingham Drive and 3825-D S.W. Quail Meadow Trail, Palm City, Fla., died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at Manor Care Health Services, Chambersburg.
Born Sept. 18, 1925, in New York, he was the son of the late William P. and Viola Sims Rave.
He earned an engineering degree through Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa.
He retired in 1985 as an engineer executive from IBM in New York.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Palm City Presbyterian Church, Palm City.
He was a member of Scotia Lodge 634 F & AM Masonic Temple, New York.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam E. Evans Rave; two daughters, Patricia Kahn of Dunwoody, Ga., and Mary Anne Benvenutti of Stafford, Va.; two sons, William Rave of Cary, N.C., and Richard Rave of Chambersburg; a sister, Mary Ann Banton of Palm City; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Palm City Presbyterian Church.
There will be no viewing.

C. Guy Benedict
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - C. Guy Benedict, 69, of 11766 Pen Mar Road, died Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Dec. 31, 1928, in Elbrook, Pa., he was the son of the late Abram R. and Mary E. Stamy Benedict.
He was a 1946 graduate of Greencastle High School.
He was employed by Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro, for 43 years, where he programmed machinery. In his early employment at Landis Tool Co., he learned the molders trade. He retired in 1990.
He was a member of Rouzerville Lutheran Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher. He held several positions within the church, including Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School treasurer and Council of the Church.
He was a member of Waynesboro Fish and Game Association; Greencastle Sportsmen; Salem Lodge Free and Accepted Masons 196, Smithsburg; Cumberland Valley Firemans Association; and National AARP. He served as Cubmaster of Pack 44, Rouzerville, Pa. He also was a life member of ATH and L. Fire Co., Waynesboro.
He is survived by his wife, W. Jean Barkdoll Benedict, whom he married July 28, 1951; a daughter, Deborah J. Ridge of Greencastle, Pa.; two sons, Steven G. Benedict of Greencastle and Bradley K. Benedict of Rouzerville; two sisters, Thelma M. Hawbaker of State College, Pa., and Janet Smith of Moorefield, W.Va.; a brother, L. Robert Benedict of State College; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis W. Benedict, in 1974; and a brother, Harry S. Benedict, in 1995.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Burial will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held Monday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Guy A. Myers III
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Guy A. Myers III, 58, of 2004 Philadelphia Ave., died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at his home.
Born July 28, 1940, in Atlanta, he was the son of the late Dr. Guy A. Myers Jr. and Mary H. Forrest Myers.
A 1967 graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology, he earned a bachelor's degree in industrial management.
He worked for 33 years for TB Wood's Inc., starting in the Atlanta warehouse. At the time of his death he was a senior electronics application engineer at the corporate office in Chambersburg.
He was an accomplished photographer.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Myers and Helen Myers, both of Atlanta; and a brother, B. Forrest Myers of Atlanta.
A memorial service will be today at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, Atlanta.
There will be no viewing.
