Mae E. Klenzing
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mae E. Klenzing, 86, of 219 W. King St., died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Sept. 12, 1911, in Edenville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Sam H. and Ida Mae Hendricks Reigle.
Her first husband, Scott Henry, died in 1948. Her second husband, Robert E. Klenzing, died in 1988.
She was employed at the former Wander Hat Shop in Chambersburg for 22 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg.
She was past president of B.P.O. Elks Auxiliary 600, a member of Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary to Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 V.F.W., Women of the Moose 1128, all in Chambersburg, and Franklin County Democratic Women.
She is survived by nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Albert Forrester.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 225 S. Second St., Chambersburg. The Rev. Donald C. Nolder will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.
There will be no viewing.

Thornton O. Black
NEW OXFORD, Pa. - Thornton Orville Black, 77, of Cross Keys Brethren Home, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at the home.
Born Dec. 23, 1920, in Unionville, Md., he was the son of the late Sherman Leslie and Dorothy Ray West Black.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen A. Legore Black, in 1988. They were married on Nov. 18, 1946.
He was a 1938 graduate of Mount Airy High School. He earned a degree in business administration at Johns Hopkins University.
He had been employed as a credit and collection clerk with Baltimore Gas and Electric Co.
He was licensed to the ministry in 1950; completed courses at Elizabethtown and Bridgewater Colleges and was ordained to the set-apart ministry in 1957 at Sam's Creek Church of the Brethren near new Windsor, Md.
He served with Woodberry Church of the Brethren in Baltimore; West Charleston Church of the Brethren near Dayton; Beaver Creek-Harmony Churches in Hagerstown; Uniontown Church of the Brethren in Uniontown, Pa., and Beaver Dam Church of the Brethren in Union Bridge, Md.
He was on the Church of the Brethren District Board in four districts, and was district moderator of the Western Pennsylvania District.
After moving to the Brethren Home at Cross Keys near Hanover, Pa., he accepted a part-time position on the pastoral staff. He retired in 1994. He was a volunteer at the home until his death.
He enlisted in Maryland State Guard at Westminster in 1941, serving as a combat medical technician. He served with the U.S. Army, 73rd Anti-aircraft Battalion from September 1942 until December 1945. He was awarded five battle stars; four combat arrowheads; a Silver Star and a purple heart.
He is survived by a son, David Black of York, Pa.; and five grandchildren, Sarah Ickes, Shalom Black, Karra Black, Jessica Black and Kaitlin Black.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Janice Black and Sue Ellen Black; a son, Sherman Wayne Black; and two brothers, Galen Keith Black and Leslie Ray Black.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Sam's Creek Church of the Brethren, 2736 Marston Road, Dennings, Md. The Rev. Franklin Keller and Jeff Grosh will officiate. Burial will be in Sam's Creek Church Cemetery in Dennings.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, Md.

Howard E. Ricker
ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Howard E. Ricker, 76, of 447 Hade Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at his home.
Born Nov. 11, 1921, in Marion, Pa., he was the son of the late Samuel C. and Anna C. Crider Ricker.
He retired as a supervisor from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pa., after 30 years with the U.S. government.
He served in the U.S. Navy, during World War II.
He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.
He was a life member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, and Hume-McNeil-Byers AmVets Post 224, both of Chambersburg; Detrich-Brechbill Post 612, American Legion, St. Thomas; Norland Chapter 3261 AARP, and National Association of Retired Federal Employees, both of Chambersburg; Good Sam Club, Penn Wheelers Chapter 25; and St. Thomas Sportsman's Association.
He had been a member of AARP and Golden Agers' bowling leagues.
He is survived by his wife, Vema C. Souders Ricker, whom he married April 28, 1944; a daughter, Bonita R. Kunkle of Mont Alto, Pa., four sons, Duane H. Ricker, Duite E. Ricker and Douglas L. Ricker, all of Chambersburg, and Dwan M. Ricker of Mercersburg, Pa.; a brother, Clarence E. Ricker of Kissimmee, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Kendall and Shirley Brown.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester F. Stine, the Rev. Paul B. Baker and the Rev. Ray Kauffman will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas, with military graveside services by members of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home; and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Myrtle A. Bittinger
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Myrtle A. Martin Bittinger, 73, of 427 W. Fifth St., died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Oct. 11, 1924, in South Mountain, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James E. and Evaline G. Kauffman Martin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmert G. Bittinger, in 1995. They were married Jan. 5, 1946.
She attended South Mountain School.
She worked at South Mountain Restoration Center and, during World War II, worked at Letterkenny Army Depot. She later was employed by Byers Packing, Greencastle, Pa.; and Musselman's in Orrtanna, Pa. She was a homemaker.
She attended Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro. She was a member of Helping Hands Sunday School class.
She was a member of National AARP; South Chapter 2977 AARP; and Senior Citizens Center, Waynesboro.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy A. Weller and Sally L. Wagaman, both of Waynesboro; one sister, Bernadine Verdier of South Mountain; two brothers, Burman Martin of Portland, Ore., and Arthur James Martin of South Mountain; one granddaughter; two grandsons; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Emmert G. Bittinger Jr.; two sisters, Pansy Carbaugh and Isabella Stites; and five infant brothers and sisters.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Michael V. Newman and Pastor K. Allan Mummert will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

James H. Shives Jr.
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - James H. Shives Jr., 72, of 9729 Circle Drive, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg.
Born Sept. 29, 1925, in Sylvan, Pa., he was the son of the late James H. Shives Sr. and Lola Blanche Stahl Shives.
He had retired from Letterkenny Army Depot after 35 years.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served in World War II.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Fort Loudon, Pa., a former consistory member and former Sunday school superintendent.
He was a member of Detrich-Brechbill American Legion Post 612 of St. Thomas, Pa.
He raised horses and goats.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosaline Williamson Shives; two sons, Gary L. Shives of Chambersburg and Ronnie J. Shives of St. Thomas; three sisters, Alice Eshelman of St. Thomas, Laura McKinney of West Grove, Pa., and Rebecca Sowers of Mercersburg, Pa.; one brother, Paul Shives of Sharpsburg; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Fort Loudon. The Rev. E. Loy Garber will officiate. Burial will be in Stenger Hill Cemetery in Fort Loudon. Military graveside services will be conducted by Detrich-Brechbill American Legion Post 612 Honor Guard.
Viewing will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave. in Mercersburg, Pa., and Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.

Harry H. Jones
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Harry H. Jones, 78, of 366 Town Drive, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at his home.
Born Aug. 6, 1920, in Donora, Pa., he was the son of the late William John and Betty Gray Jones.
He graduated from Donora High School.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II.
He was formerly employed by U.S. Steel Co. in Donora; and later by Mack Trucks in Hagerstown from 1961 until he retired in 1984.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Greencastle.
He was a member of Hagerstown Elks Lodge 378; a life member of Donora Masonic Lodge 626 F&AM; and a member of Mercersburg American Legion Post 830, Mercersburg, Pa.
He golfed in the Mack Trucks golf league, and bowled.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Florence T. Lytle Jones; a daughter, Karla J. Harris of Boonsboro; two sons, Terry D. Jones of Greencastle and William J. Jones of Hagerstown; a brother, Ray Jones of Donora; four grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by three sisters; and two brothers.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. David Armstrong and the Rev. Kenneth Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
There will be no public viewing; the family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where Mount Pisgah Masonic Lodge 443 F&AM of Greencastle will hold a Masonic service at 9 p.m.

William A. Martin Jr.
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - William A. Martin Jr., 46, of 1334 Alexander Ave., died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Nov. 6, 1951, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late William A. and Winifred Lininger Martin Sr.
He was a 1969 graduate of Chambersburg High School; and a 1973 graduate of Moorehead University, Moorehead, Ky. He received his master's degree in counseling from Shippensburg University, Shippensburg, Pa.
He was employed at Nitterhouse Concrete Products, Chambersburg, as the human resource manager.
He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Chambersburg, where he was an elder.
He served on the board of Chambersburg YMCA from 1977 to 1997; and was active locally with the Republican Party.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Banach Martin, whom he married June 21, 1980; a son, William A.B. "Archie" Martin, at home; a twin sister, Kris Lambert of Maysville, Ky.; and a brother, Steve Martin of Charlotte, N.C.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg. The Rev. C. Edward Morgan will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
The viewing will be Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church.
A reception will be held in the fellowship hall of Central Presbyterian Church on Sunday immediately after the service and prior to the burial.
