MILDRED C. MILLER
Mildred C. Miller, 70, of Jeannette, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at home. She was born March 21, 1929, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Frederick and Frances Spore Riefler. Prior to retirement, she worked in the medical records department at Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Jeannette, and the JDMH Retirees. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry J. Miller Jr.; and a brother, Donald Riefler. She is survived by three sisters , Mary Price of Norwood, Mass., Veronica Strathmann of Forest Hills and Mary Jane Zetter of Youngstown, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Adeline Riefler of Youngstown, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church with Father James Loew, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
DANIEL H. MOORE JR.
Daniel H. Moore Jr., 69, of Irwin, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born March 10, 1930, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Daniel H. Sr. and Helen Loughry Moore. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corp. at its Cheswick plant. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Irwin, the Shidle Lodge #601 Free and Accepted Masons of Irwin, the Valley of Coudersport Consistory, the Syria Temple of Pittsburgh, the Shrine Gun Club of Pittsburgh, the White Oak Rod and Gun Club, and the VFW Post 8427 of Herminie. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn G. Best Moore; a daughter, Beth Guidus and her husband, Keith, of Lake Forest, Calif.; two sons , Daniel H. Moore III of Mt. Pleasant and John A. Moore and his wife, Kathy Lynn, of Bear Rocks; five grandchildren, Ryan K. Guidus of Lake Forest Calif., Jacob D. and Jennifer D. Moore of Jeannette, Lisa C. and Sean D. Moore and their mother , Karen Sue Moore, of Herminie. Friends will be received at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Members of the Shidle Lodge #601 Free and Accepted Masons will hold a Masonic service at the funeral home Friday at 8:15 p.m. to be followed by a funeral service at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert A. Free officiating. Interment will follow in the Brush Creek Cemetery Saturday at 11 a.m.
JENNIE H. (SOBOTKA) NAPIERKOWSKI
Jennie H. (Sobotka) Napierkowski, 78, of Ross Township, died Monday, March 6, 2000, at UPMC Passavant, McCandless. Preceded in death by her husband, Walter M. Napierkowski; and a sister, Stella Sobotka Cessar. She is survived by daughters , Marlene J. Donatelli and Janice M. Dineen; brothers , Chester Sayre and Edward Sobotka; grandchildren, Michelle Bahur and her husband, Alex, with whom she made her home, David J. Donatelli, Janine Sheppard, Terrence Timothy Dineen Jr., and Thomas R. Dineen; by two great-grandchildren; and by the children she helped raise of the late Edward Penco, Edward Penco Jr., Mark, Gregory, Michael, and Vincent Penco, Julie Barnes, Lisa Plants and Paula Green, and by their 14 children who considered Jennie their grandmother. MARK J. SHUEY
Mark J. Shuey, 48, of Irwin, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born March 19, 1951, in Greensburg, a son of Louis C. Shuey of Greensburg and the late Blanche M. Stanick Shuey. He formerly had been employed by the Dow Chemical Co. Mark was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church, Harrison City, the Latrobe Elks, Knights of Columbus Council 1480 of Greensburg, the PTGO, and a social member of the Harrison City Firemen's Club. In addition to his mother , he was preceded in death by his mother -in-law, Dolores "Dolly" Giles. In addition to his Father , he is survived by his wife of 28 years, Catherine "Cathy" Giles Shuey; two sons , Jason Mark Shuey and Nathan Charles Shuey, both at home; a sister, Dr. Louise Shuey Pavia and her husband, John, of Oakmont; two brothers , William E. Shuey of Bovard and John Paul Shuey and his wife, Melinda, of Greensburg; his Father -in-law, Jerome J. Giles and his wife, Betty, of Greensburg; sisters -in-law, Cindy Hyatt and her husband, David, Sharon Asbee and her husband, Dennis, Mary Beth Giles, Jerri Liming, Donna J. Sowa and her husband, Charles, Susan McClintock and her husband, Dave, and Kelly Giles; a brother-in-law, Arnie Giles; two aunts, Helen Dahlem and Sophie Sopko; and several nieces and nephews and cousins. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Greensburg, with the Rev. V. Paul Fitzmaurice as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Hempfield Township. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the charity of one's choice. Members of the GVFD Hose Co. 8 will meet at the funeral home Thursday at 7:30 p.m. A vigil service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
ROCCO J. STRAZZERA
Rocco J. Strazzera, 87, of Derry, formerly of Vandergrift, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Dec. 10, 1912, in Vandergrift, a son of the late Joseph and Angela Bucci Strazzera. He lived in Vandergrift most of his life. He was formerly employed by U.S. Steel in Vandergrift as a craneman, retiring in 1972. He was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, Vandergrift, a social member of the Bari Club and the VFW, both of Vandergrift, and a member of the Slovak Club, East Vandergrift. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rena Strazzera, in 1997; and a brother, Armand Strazzer. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph B. and Frances C. Strazzera of Latrobe; a brother, Louis D. Strazzer of Vandergrift; a sister, Mary Paola of Vandergrift; two half sisters , Angeline Montemurro of Jeannette and Josephine Bernot of Middletown; two grandchildren, Michael J. and Judith M. Strazzera; and a great-grandson, Michael D. Strazzera. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the BRADY-CURRAN FUNERAL HOME INC., 429 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. RUBY EDWARDS THOMAS
Ruby Edwards Thomas, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, in the Beverly Healthcare, Murrysville. She was born in Lancaster County, a daughter of the late Ross and Mina Eager Edwards. She was a member of the Christian Science Society of Greensburg and for many years she oversaw the operation of the Christian Science Reading Room on South Pennsylvania Avenue in Greensburg. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Probst Thomas, in 1977. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, including Paul Rohrman of Chesapeake, Va. There will be no public visitation and private graveside service will take place in the St. Clair Cemetery with Judy Morrell as Reader officiating. BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, Greensburg, is in charge of arrangements.
MICHAEL JOSEPH VIKARTOVSKY
Michael Joseph Vikartovsky, 79, of Peebles, Ohio, died Sunday, March 5, 2000. He was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of Steve and Julia Zoldak Vikartovsky. Beloved Father of Bonnie Newman, Michael, Patricia Stroup, Mary Wabnitz and Thomas. Brother of Jane Scarford of Avon, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kathy; five sisters ; and five brothers . He was a graduate of the former Hurst High School and Xavier University, Ohio, and was a member of the Xavier Legion of Honor in 1947. He was a veteran of World War II. There will be a service at Visitation Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Anthony W. Ditto officiating. Local arrangements provided by GALONE-CARUSO'S, Mt. Pleasant.
DONALD C. WILLIAMS
Donald C. Williams, 49, of Penn Township, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000. He was born June 18, 1950, in Wilkinsburg, a son of the late Ralph T. and Marjorie Duffett Williams. He was a field supervisor for the Franklin Township Municipal Sanitary Authority for the past 16 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Barbara Church, Harrison City, Harrison City Firemen's Club, American Legion Bushy Run Post 260, Penn Rod and Gun Club of Penn and the Polish Club ( White Eagle) of Jeannette. He is survived by his wife, Lori Flynn Williams; two sons , Connor and Troy of Penn Township; a sister, Lynn Williams of Raleigh, N.C.; and a brother, Douglas Williams of Phoenix, Ariz. ELIZABETH VARHOLLA WOLFE
Elizabeth "Betty" Varholla Wolfe, 84, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Hempfield Towers, Greensburg, Mt. Pleasant, and San Francisco, Calif., died Wednesday, March 8, 2000. She was born May 9, 1915, in Mammoth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wolfe, who worked at ITE in South Greensburg for 25 years; five brothers ; and two sisters . She is survived by her sister, Margaret Molowski of Mt. Pleasant; her daughter, Barbara (Wolfe) Makarsky and husband, Carl, of Jacksonville, Fla., recently of Greensburg; son, Denis Wolfe and wife, Elaine (Uhrin) Wolfe, of Copperopolis, Calif., formerly of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Denise (Makarsky) Azevedo of Conneaut Lake, Pa., Diana Makarsky-Hixson and Dawn (Makarsky) Himmelwright, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Gregory Wolfe of Corrales, N.M., and Geoffrey Wolfe of San Francisco, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Charles Beveridge, Cassandra Beveridge and Aaron Azevedo of Conneaut Lake. Betty enjoyed being a homemaker and did volunteer work in Orange, Calif. She was a member of St. Bruno's Catholic Church, Greensburg, and Visitation Church, Mt. Pleasant. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Mt. Pleasant.
AMANDA BELL (GRAY) BOYER
Amanda Bell (Gray) Boyer, 83, of Blairsville RD3, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 7, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born May 9, 1916, in Hillside, a daughter of the late Israel and Elsie Shultz Gray. She was a charter member of the Gray Station Community Church. She was a homemaker. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Boyer Sr., on Dec. 27, 1998; two brothers , Joseph and Zane Gray; a sister, Ruth Mitchell; and a great-granddaughter, Hillary Bonn. She is survived by a sister, Eleanor Altimus of Black Lick; a brother, Donald Gray of Millville, N.J.; two daughters , Elsie and her husband, the Rev. Thomas Bonn, of Christiansburg, Va., and Ruthie E. and her husband, the Rev. James R. Henigin, of Blairsville RD3; two sons , James L. Boyer Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Derry RD1 and John I. Boyer and his wife, Nancy, of Blairsville RD3; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Madeline "Madge" Edna (Shumar) Copeland, 52, of Scottdale (Upper Tyrone Township), passed away Monday evening, March 6, 2000, in Forbes Regional Medical Center, Monroeville. George T. "Boots" Duez, 84, of Jeannette, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at home. He was born Sept. 17, 1915, in Jeannette, a son of the late Henry and Eugenie Gerard Duez. Prior to retirement, he was employed at the former American St. Gobain in Jeannette. He was also a member of the Jeannette Pigeon Club, F.O.E. 844 of Jeannette, a charter member of the High Park Volunteer Fire Department, a charter member of the Jeannette Ambulance Service, the Salvation Army Band, and was an avid golfer and bowler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers , Frank Duez and Henry Duez Jr.; and two sisters , Marie Wall and Jean Masters. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Goldie Wolfe Duez; three sons , Ronald and his wife, Barbara Evans Duez, of Canfield, Ohio, Dennis and his wife, Catherine Sticca Duez, of Jeannette and Terry Sr. and his wife, Frances Mangus Duez, of Irwin; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha "Kye" Steiner of Grapeville; and a brother, Edward "Bill" Duez and his wife, Joan, of Jeannette; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends were received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. Michael L. Heilman Sr., 31, of Uniontown, won his battle with his family at his side and went to be with God, Sunday, March 5, 2000, in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Presbyterian Hospital in Oakland. Friends were received Wednesday in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC. AT SYLVAN HEIGHTS Cemetery, 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, and will be received Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m., when a prayer service will be held followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in the St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Father William J. Kiel, who was a tremendous help with Michael's battle, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown.
