Harold L. Fix

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Harold Lewis Fix, 74, of McConnellsburg, died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg.

Born Nov. 23, 1923, in Three Springs, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank L. and Muta Park Fix.

He retired in 1981 after 32 years at Letterkenny Army Depot.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a Protestant.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Welsh Fix, whom he married Jan. 31, 1963; three sons, Harold L. Fix Jr. of Waynesboro, Pa., Terry Lee Fix of McConnellsburg and Tim Lewis Fix of Dublin Mills, Pa.; six sisters, Helen Layton, Lois Linke, Maxine Bard, Arlene Umbrell and Carlys Sleighter, all of McConnellsburg, and Marie DeRhodes of Wooster, Ohio; two brothers, Blaine Fix of Harrisonville, Pa., and Phillip Fix of Hustontown, Pa.; four granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Kerlin; and two brothers, Earl Fix and Clair Fix.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Knobsville Church of the Brethren, Knobsville, Pa. Pastor Chris Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg. Military graveside services will be conducted by Fulton Honor Guard.

Visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville; and Sunday one hour prior to services at the church.

Clarence A. Sexton

NEEDMORE, Pa. - Clarence Albert Sexton, 84, of Needmore, died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born April 23, 1914, in Portsmouth, Ohio, he was the son of the late Charley and Effie Sexton.

He was a retired contractor.

During World War II, he worked at Bethlehem Steel Dry Docks.

He was a member of Sideling Hill Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret Adcock Sexton, whom he married Nov. 26, 1943; a son, Clarence Ellwood Sexton; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a stepgreat-great-granddaughter; three sisters; and two brothers.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore. Pastors William Swope and Lyle Mellott will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Pa., and on Monday one hour prior to services at the church.

Hardy Kirkpatrick

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Hardy "Kirk" Kirkpatrick, 70, of 575 Stanley Ave., died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born March 28, 1928, in Maggie Valley, N.C., he was the son of the late Albert and Bertie Rogers Kirkpatrick.

He attended Montgomery Junior College near Takoma Park, Md.

He retired in 1990 from J.C. Penney's, Chambersburg, retiring after more than 20 years. He then worked as a sales associate for eight years at Sears, Chambersburg.

He attended Chambersburg Bible Church.

He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of Williamson-Corinthian Lodge 368 F & AM, Philadelphia.

He is survived by his wife, Mary H. Coffman Kirkpatrick, whom he married Dec. 24, 1961; a daughter, Angela S. Danzberger Jr. of Fort Loudon, Pa.; a son, David H. Kirkpatrick of Chambersburg; five brothers, Lewis Kirkpatrick of Sampson, Ala., Joe Kirkpatrick of Waynesville, N.C., Fred Kirkpatrick of Lexington, S.C., Frank Kirkpatrick of Baltimore and the Rev. James Kirkpatrick of Greer, S.C.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Ann Kirkpatrick; a sister; and four brothers.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Chambersburg Bible Church, 810 Orchard Drive, Chambersburg. The Rev. David W. Kraft will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The viewing will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg; and on Monday one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Building Fund of Chambersburg Bible Church, 810 Orchard Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Angela J. McCoy

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Angela J. McCoy, 23, of 932 Byers Ave., died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Born Oct. 25, 1974, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of Marvin J. Carbaugh of York, Pa., and Gayle M. Wenzel Carbaugh of Chambersburg.

She was a 1993 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School.

She was employed by F&M Trust Co., Chambersburg, as a trust operation clerk for five years.

She was a member of First Church of God, Chambersburg, where she was a helper in the 2- to 3-year-old Sunday School class.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Larry L. McCoy Jr., whom she married June 11, 1994; maternal grandfather, Richard G. Wenzel of Salem, Ore.; and maternal great-grandmother, Ruth Musgrave Wenzel of Scales Mound, Ill.

Services will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Revs. Earl E. Mills and Trevor E. Rosenberry will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Monday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or Hope Lodge, 636 W. Lexington St., Baltimore, Md. 21201.

Margaret L. Keller

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Margaret L. "Margie" "Peggy" Keller, 72, of 11460 Pine Hill Drive, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at her home.

Born Nov. 23, 1925, in Harrisburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Raymond J. and Rebecca S. Spangler Etchberger.

She was a 1944 graduate of Waynesboro High School, serving as class president for three years. She then received her bachelor of arts degree at Gettysburg College in 1948.

After graduation, she worked at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia with patients with mental and nervous diseases. Then she worked at YWCA in Williamsport, Pa., and Carlisle, Pa. She also worked for the Department of Public Welfare as a caseworker in Carlisle. Later she worked as the home service director for American Red Cross of Waynesboro.

She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro, where she taught Sunday School. She also served on the Christian Education Committee.

She was a member of Waynesboro Country Club and Waynesboro College Club. She served as president of Clayton Avenue PTA and chairperson of Franklin County Child Care. She served on the board of directors of Waynesboro Human Services; was a member of the steering committee of American Cancer Society; past president of the college sorority Phi Mu for three years; served on the board of directors of Mental Health and Mental Retardation of Fulton and Franklin Counties; chairperson for Citizens for Eisenhower of Franklin County; served as Franklin County vice chairperson for Citizens for Scranton; served as president of Republican Women's Council of Franklin County; and was a member of the national AARP.

She is survived by her husband of more than 48 years, Judge John W. "Jack" Keller; two sons, John N. Keller and David S. Keller, both of Waynesboro; a brother, Frank R. Etchberger of Atlanta; three grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro. The Revs. Richard A. Seaks and Charles W. Reider will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

There will be no public viewing. The family will receive friends Monday in the church parlor one hour prior to services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Renfrew Museum and Park, 1010 E. Main St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268; a charity of one's choice; or one may plant a tree at any location in her memory.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Catherine L. Taylor

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Catherine L. Mentzer Smith Taylor, 98, formerly of 257 S. Potomac St., died Friday, July 17, 1998, at Franklin County Nursing Home.

Born April 28, 1900, in Quincy Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Amanda Young Mentzer.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Allen Smith, in 1932; and her second husband, Garland Taylor, in 1987.

She was employed at Waynesboro Laundry as a presser for 40 years.

She was a member of Faith Antrim Baptist Church, Waynesboro.

She is survived by two  daughters, Regina Nunemaker of Waynesboro and Catherine Rothrock of Euclid, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and more than 55 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mae Martin; a son, James Smith; a sister and three brothers.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. Herb Busick will officiate. Burial will be in Prices Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 1660 Duke St., Alexandria, Va. 22314.

William D. Unger

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - William D. "Bill" Unger, 63, of 13644 Buchanan Trail West, died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Nov. 28, 1934, in Montgomery Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles E. and Elsie Custer Unger.

He had been an employee of the former Mercersburg Tannery and Koppers Corp. of Pittsburgh. Since 1982, he was head truck driver for D.L. Martin Co. of Mercersburg.

For more than 20 years, he was a forest fire warden for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He was a member of Charlestown United Methodist Church of Cove Gap, Pa.

He was a member of Harry Lackhove American Legion Post 517 of Mercersburg, of which he was post commander from 1984 to 1985 and assistant sergeant at arms for the 22nd District Commander of Franklin-Fulton Bi-County Council from 1988 to 1989; James McCartney American Legion Post 232 of Dry Run, Pa.; Wesley Yeager American Legion Post 606 of Fort Loudon, Pa.; General James Chambers Lodge 801, F & AM of Chambersburg; and Juniata Saddle Horse Association of Mifflintown, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Shives Unger, whom he married Sept. 10, 1954; a daughter, Dixie A. Chilcote; four sisters, Evelyn Pine of Mercersburg, Hazel Unger of Waynesboro, Pa., Mabel Suffecool of Little Cove, Pa. and Ruth Weaver of Hancock; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. Pastor Phyllis Bard and the Rev. W. David Kent will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

The viewing will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Sunday one hour prior to services.

Memorial donations may be made to Charlestown United Methodist Church, c/o Genevieve Poper, 137 Beech Lane, Mercersburg, Pa. 17236.

Mary E. Spaulding

SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Mary Elizabeth Spaulding, 95, of South Mountain, and formerly of Philadelphia and Paducah, Ky., died Monday, July 13, 1998, at South Mountain Restoration Center.

Born Aug. 14, 1902, in Paducah, she was the daughter of the late Ignatus and Mary Michuson Spaulding.

She was employed as a waitress and housekeeper.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of South Mountain Restoration Center. The Rev. Joseph Caroline will officiate. Burial will be in St. Andrews Cemetery, Waynesboro, Pa.

Arrangements are by Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
