Helen M. Jacobs
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Helen M. Garman Jacobs, 94, of Hoover House, 227 W. Main St., died Monday, July 6, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Dec. 1, 1903, in Marion, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Albertus Ambrose and Mary E. Shull Garman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Jacobs, in 1985. They were married Aug. 26, 1926.
She was a 1922 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
She was employed during World War II in the rationing office. She later was employed as a medical secretary and receptionist in the office of Dr. W. Lehman Guyton. She retired in 1970.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro.
She is survived by one daughter, Martha J. Mathias of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dr. D. Robert Jacobs, in 1998; and a sister, Ruth Garman Ervin.
A memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Trinity United Church of Christ, 30 W. North St., Waynesboro. The Rev. James T. Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends Friday prior to the service at the church.

Betty J. Spong
ALGERS, La. - Betty Johns Spong, 73, of Algers, and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in Louisiana.
She was the daughter of the late R. Melvin and Elsie Glynn Brown Johns.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent G. Spong, in 1976.
She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Waynesboro.
She is survived by a daughter, Bobby Bennett; a son, Mason Spong; five sisters, Gwendolyn McBride, Jean Smith, Janet Helfrick, Gladys Gilbert and Dottie Loy; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thompson Johns and Richard Johns.
Graveside committal services will be private. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
Local service arrangements are by Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
Ann N. Rebert
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Ann N. Rebert, 82, of 120 Lincoln Drive, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at University Hospital Hershey Medical Center, Derry Township, Pa.
Born Sept. 23, 1915, in Sheffield, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Anastasia Lefko Nagurney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold B. Rebert, in 1992.
She was a homemaker. She was a seasonal worker at Knouse Foods in Orrtanna, Pa.
She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg, Pa., and a member of Legion of Mary.
She did volunteer work at Piney Mountain Nursing Home, Fayetteville; was a member of Alter Society of St. Francis Catholic Church, Gettysburg, Pa.; and National AARP.
She is survived by one daughter, Amelia A. Staub of Gettysburg; two sons, Harold E. Rebert of Marysville, Pa., and Raymond L. Rebert of Chambersburg; one sister, Mary E. Coates of Sugar Grove, Pa.; four brothers, Michael Nagurney and Anthony Nagurney, both of Youngsville, Pa., George Nagurney of Jamestown, N.Y., and Nicholas Nagurney of Burralo, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Nagurney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. Monsignor Thomas R. Brenner will be celebrant. Burial will be in McKnightstown Cemetery, McKnightstown, Pa.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg; and Monday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Recitation of the rosary will be Sunday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dwayne M. Mummert
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Dwayne M. Mummert, 17, of 5069 Rice Hollow Road, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident earlier that morning on Lincoln Way West between Chambersburg and St. Thomas, Pa.
Born April 11, 1981, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of Alvin and Cathy E. West Mummert Jr. of 5069 Rice Hollow Road, Greencastle.
He was a senior at James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg, Pa., where he played on the school's football and baseball teams. He also was on the journalism committee of the yearbook staff.
He was working in building construction for Laurich Co., Inc. near Chambersburg.
He was a member of Chambersburg Seventh Day Adventist Church.
He played baseball in Mercersburg Colt League; and bowled in Youth League of Buchanan Lanes of Mercersburg.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Shane Mummert and Ty Mummert, both at home; paternal grandfather, Alvin Mummert Sr. of Greencastle; paternal stepgrandmother, Clara Mummert of Greencastle; maternal grandmother, Catherine West of Waynesboro; maternal great-grandmother, Myrtle Rowe of Waynesboro; his girl friend, Samantha Rockwell of Chambersburg; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews and cousins.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Salem Ridge Mennonite Church, 441 Pensinger Road, Greencastle. The Rev. Dean Negri will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle; and Monday one hour prior to the services at the church.
Madalynn S. Upperman
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Madalynn Shea Upperman, 3, of 457 S. Seventh St., died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at her home.
Born Oct. 15, 1994, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Brenton J. and Kimberly A. Kiser Upperman.
She attended St. Paul United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.
She is survived by maternal grandparents, Koonie E. and Barbara A. Kegerreis Kiser of Chambersburg; paternal grandmother, Frances Upperman of Chambersburg; maternal great-grandmother, Mary I. Kiser of Chambersburg; and maternal great-grandmother, Hazel L. Rosenberry of Chambersburg.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker and the Rev. A. Robert Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
Visitation will be Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kimberly A. Upperman
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Kimberly Ann Upperman, 32, of 457 S. Seventh St., died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at her home.
Born June 23, 1966, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of Koonie E. and Barbara A. Kegerreis Kiser of Chambersburg.
Her husband, Brenton J. Upperman, also died Thursday, July 9, 1998.
She was a 1984 graduate of Chambersburg High School.
She was a dental assistant for Dr. Donnel McHenry of Chambersburg.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Marcy R. Martin of Greencastle, Pa.; one brother, Christopher W. Kiser of Chambersburg; paternal grandmother, Mary I. Kiser of Chambersburg; and maternal grandmother, Hazel L. Rosenberry of Chambersburg.
Her daughter, Madalynn Shea Upperman also died Thursday, July 9, 1998.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. A. Robert Cook and the Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
There will be no viewing.

Brenton J. Upperman
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Brenton J. Upperman, 33, of 457 S. Seventh St., died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at his home.
Born July 20, 1964, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Frances Myers Upperman of Chambersburg and the late Donald B. Upperman.
He was a 1982 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School.
He was employed as vice president of Upperman's Water Treatment Service Inc. of Chambersburg and South Central Bleu Water Co. Inc. of Chambersburg. He was a certified water specialist and a certified installer.
He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Chambersburg, where he was a past member of Pastor-Parish Relations Committee.
He was a member of International Ozone Association, Water Quality Association, Chambersburg Club, and B.P.O. Elks 600, Marine Corps League and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 842, all of Chambersburg.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Sharon Yap of Palm Bay, Fla.; a brother, Steven J. Upperman of Chambersburg; four nieces; and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kimberly A. Kiser Upperman, and his daughter, Madalynn S. Upperman, on Thursday, July 9, 1998.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Revs. Paul B. Baker and A. Robert Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The viewing will be Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Randall E. Reitz
HAVELOCK, N.C. - Randall E. Reitz, 17, of 501 Gene Drive and formerly of Chambersburg, Pa., died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, in Croatan National Forrest, N.C.
Born Sept. 15, 1980, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Paul D. and Susan M. Brown Reitz Jr. of Havelock.
He was a student.
He worked part time as a bagger at Cherry Point Marine Corps Base commissary in Havelock. He also worked at Big Apple Pizzeria, Havelock.
He was a member of New Creation Pentecostal Holiness Church, Havelock.
He was a member of ROTC at Havelock High School.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Brenda L. Holtery of Shippensburg, Pa., and Rebecca S. Reitz of Havelock; maternal grandparents, Roy and Helen Bollinger of Chambersburg; and paternal grandfather, Paul D. Reitz Sr. of Chambersburg.
Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. John F. Rauhut will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
