Bernard M. Shadle
HARRISONVILLE, Pa. - Bernard Milton Shadle, 58, of Harrisonville, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born June 17, 1940, in Dublin Township, Pa., he was the son of Lena Strait Shadle of Fort Littleton, Pa., and the late John W. Shadle.
He retired in January 1996 from PennDot. He was a construction inspector supervisor.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He attended Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrisonville.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Joyce Hollinshead Shadle, whom he married Jan. 28, 1967; one son, Joshua Shadle at home; and a sister, Sandra Thomas of McConnellsburg.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Pa. Pastor Charles Gummo and Pastor Chris Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Asbury United Methodist Cemetery, Harrisonville, with military graveside services by Fulton Honor Guard.
Visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Sipes Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m.
Ruth A. Creager
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Ruth Abbie Creager, 79, of 136 S. Broad St., died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Franklin County Nursing Home, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Aug. 21, 1918, in Charlestown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Helen Victoria Moler Myers.
She worked at Letterkenny Army Depot during World War II and then worked as a nurse's aide in hospitals and homes. She worked at Waynesboro News Agency as a clerk for 25 years, retiring in August 1983.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, where she was a member of the adult Sunday Bible Class.
She was a member of Mount Vernon Chapter 398, Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Glenn L. Creager, whom she married July 11, 1965; two sisters, Katherine Tutweiler of Clarksburg, W.Va., and Mary Trudell of Baltimore; and a brother, Raymond Myers of Halltown, W.Va.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. Jay Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro.

Iva M. Strait
MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Iva Mae Decker Strait, 76, R.D.2, McConnellsburg, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center.
Born May 22, 1922, in Harrisonville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Chester and Mary Jane Mellott Decker.
She had been a licensed practical nurse at Fulton County Medical Center. She also had been employed by Masonic Nursing Home, Elizabethtown, Pa., and Sagner Manufacturing, McConnellsburg.
She was a member of Sideling Hill Christian Church in Needmore, Pa., and the church's Ladies Aid Society.
She volunteered at Fulton County Library.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty Appleby of Greencastle, Pa., and Wynell Shives and Susie Everetts Jr., both of McConnellsburg; three sisters, Edna Bard of Harrisonville, Cleo Fisher of Cleona, Pa., and Vera Woodcock of Waynesville, N.C.; one brother, Wendell Decker of Windber, Pa; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and her long-time friend, Boyd Hess of Palmyra, Pa.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Sideling Hill Christian Church, R.D.1, Needmore, Pa. The Rev. Donald Bard, the Rev. William Swope and the Rev. Belvy White will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, HCR 64, Harrisonville and Monday one hour prior to service at the church.
William R. Coles
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. - William R. "Pop" Coles, 89, of 1489 Long Run Road, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Pottsville (Pa.) Hospital.
Born in Wiconisco, Pa., he was the son of the late George and Martha Coles.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Verna Mae Daub Coles, in 1992.
He worked for 21 years as a coal miner/electrician; and for 25 years as an electrical engineer at Breyers Ice Cream Co. in Philadelphia.
He was given the name "Mr. Salvation Army" because of his volunteer work in Schuylkill County and surrounding areas. He spent many hours gathering food from Farmer's Market and making food baskets, which he delivered to the needy.
He was a member of The Salvation Army Pottsville Corps for 68 years, including service at Shamokin Salvation Army. On holidays, he cooked meals and on Christmas gave toys to children.
He is survived by four children, Charles H. Coles Sr. of Manahawkin, N.J., Emily Foreman of Schuylkill Haven, Robert N. Coles of Hagerstown and William R. Coles of Philadelphia; two sisters, Gloria Huratick of Tower City, Pa., and Dorothy Kearins of Philadelphia; a brother, George Coles of High Spire, Pa.; 20 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Kulp and Virginia Hunter; and a brother, John Coles.
A public service will be conducted by three of his children, Maj. Charles Coles, Col. Robert N. Coles and Maj. Emily Foreman of the Salvation Army.
A Promoted to Glory service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at The Salvation Army, 400 Sanderson St., Pottsville. Burial services will be conducted by Maj. Paul Mackneer, Pottsville commanding officer pastor, in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
Viewing will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lord Funeral Home, 1818 W. Mahantongo St., Pottsville.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Mary I. "Shockey" Malles, 81, of 12954 Mentzer Gap Road, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998.
Harriet P. Thompson
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Harriet P. Thompson, 80, of 532 Philadelphia Ave., died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born July 10, 1917, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Merle D. and Hattie Grove Plough.
She was a 1935 graduate of Chambersburg High School and a 1939 graduate of Shippensburg University.
She was a teacher in the Chambersburg Area School District for 35 years, retiring in 1976.
She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Chambersburg.
She was a member of Falling Spring Chapter of AARP 2840, Retired Teachers Association, Afternoon Club and daughters of 1812. She worked with Meals on Wheels for 12 years.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Edward E. Thompson.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Robert Dean Morrison will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery.
There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends Monday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. prior to services.

Gabriel L. Troxell
COATESVILLE, Pa. - Gabriel Lovelace Troxell, infant son of Richard Troxell and Lisa Lovelace Troxell, of 120 Lafayette Road, was stillborn Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Drexel Hill, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Wilder Houston Troxell, at home; his maternal grandparents, Vincent A. Addesso and Madonna B. Lovelace of Whitfield, Pa.; paternal grandparents, Richard and Pat Cianelli Troxell of Thurmont, Md.; and paternal great-grandfather, Nicholas Cianelli of Hagerstown.
Services will be private.

Norman B. Guyer
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Norman B. Guyer, 76, of 368 Valley Drive, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.
Born Aug. 12, 1921, in Spring Run, Pa., he was the son of Glenna I. Muttersbaugh Guyer of Spring Run and the late John V. Guyer.
He retired in 1986 from the maintenance department of J. Schoeneman, Chambersburg, after more than 18 years of service.
He was a member of New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church, Chambersburg, where he attended the Adult Sunday School class.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Hazel E. Yeatter Guyer; a daughter, Vonnie I. Foltz of Fayetteville; two sons, Arthur H. Guyer of Chambersburg and Bruce N. Guyer of Orlando, Fla.; three sisters, Cora M. Miller of Spring Run, Alice E. Collins of Fannettsburg, Pa., and Lewese L. Andrews of Chambersburg; two brothers, John A. Guyer of Hagerstown and Robert R. Guyer of Chambersburg; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Roland A. Guyer, in 1961.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Revs. Robert D. Verno and Larry M. Dillon will officiate. Burial will be in Upper Path Valley Cemetery, Fannett Township, Pa.
Viewing will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and on Monday one hour prior to services.

Ruth E. Barnhart
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ruth Elizabeth Barnhart, 99, of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died Friday, June 26, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Dec. 30, 1898, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Frank P. and Sarah C. Croft Barnhart.
She attended Waynesboro-area schools.
She worked as a pocket setter in Waynesboro.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Sunday school class.
She is survived by a nephew, Thomas Barnhart of Denver, Pa.; and a niece, Phyllis Unger of Hanover, Pa.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Unger; and four brothers, Charles Barnhart, Paul Barnhart, Clarence Barnhart and Sherman Barnhart.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. Jay Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services.

Hugh B. Millsop Jr.
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Hugh B. "Rip" Millsop Jr., 75, of 659 Cumberland Ave., died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at his home.
Born May 15, 1923, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Hugh B. and Julia Erdenricher Millsop Sr.
He was a sales representative with Wolf Distributing Co., retiring after 27 years of service in York, Pa.
He served in the U.S. Army in Europe and received five Bronze Stars.
He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 in Hagerstown, Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 in Chambersburg and Fountain Head Country Club in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Gordon Millsop; a stepdaughter, Kimberly L. Bushey of Cavetown; a stepson, Stephen C. Bushey of Cavetown; and a stepgrandson.
Services will be private. Burial will be in Allegheny County Memorial Park, Pittsburgh.
