Ruth E. Smith
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Ruth E. Smith, 93, of 3125 Buchanan Trail West, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at her home.
Born Oct. 21, 1904, in St. Thomas Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Isaac E. and Nannie A. Wise Leininger.
She cooked and did housekeeping work at the former Milton Wright Home in Kauffman, Pa., and for the late Moorehead Kennedy Family on Ragged Edge Road in Chambersburg. She also worked at the former Greencastle Canning Factory and Gem Garment Co.
She was a member of Calvary Bible Church of Greencastle, and early in life attended Greencastle Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by her husband, George C. Smith, whom she married Dec. 25, 1939; four brothers, Raymond Leininger of Fayetteville, Pa., Alvey Leininger of Menno-Haven in Chambersburg, Ira Leininger of Greencastle, Pa., and Scott Leininger of Winchester, Va.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Glen A. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Browns Mill Cemetery in Kauffman, Pa.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

John B. Clanton
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - John B. "Johnnie" Clanton, 80, of 225 W. North St., died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born June 29, 1917, in Carpenter Station, Ala., he was the son of the late John Edward and Lillie E. Etheridge Clanton.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty V. Working Clanton, in 1967. They were married in July 1943.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He retired in August 1962, after 22 years of service.
He subsequently worked in the civil service at Norfolk Naval Air Station in the rework facility, retiring in 1969. He worked in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach area until moving to Waynesboro in 1975. He worked at Appalachian Nursery from March 1975 through June 1979.
He was a member of Waynesboro Bible Church.
He did volunteer work for several nursing homes in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah E. "Sally" Ace Hovis Clanton, whom he married June 27, 1992; two daughters, Bonnie Kay Branthaver of Waynesboro and Donna Crook of Chesapeake, Va.; one sister, Martha J. Dickey of Elk City, Okla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, and one brother.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Robert Fitz will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, with military graveside services by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 honor guard, Chambersburg, Pa.
The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mabel W. Feigley
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Mabel W. Feigley, 103, a resident of Caledonia Manor Nursing Home, and formerly of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Greencastle, Pa., died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Oct. 10, 1894, in Harrisburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert D. and Lillie Chapman Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Feigley, in 1969.
She was a homemaker. In her early life, she worked as a woman barber in Hagerstown and as a riveter at the former Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown.
She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church of Upton, Pa.
She was a member of WCTU.
She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Usry of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Louise M. Kershner.
Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Alan Wilson will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Beulah M. Emory
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Beulah May Emory, 85, a resident of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of the Blue Ridge Summit area, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born June 26, 1912, in Guilford Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William R. and Annie M. Cump Yeager.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence W. Emory, in 1953. They were married in 1927.
She worked at Waynesboro Shoe Factory.
She was a member of Calvary Chapel Episcopal Church, Beartown, Pa.
She is survived by two daughters, Isabelle M. McCloud of Fairborn, Ohio, and June K. Rotz of Wentzville, Mo.; one son, William E. Emory of Waynesboro, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude McClure; and five brothers, Clarence Yeager, Garnet Yeager, Arvene Yeager, John Yeager and Charles Yeager.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Chapel Episcopal Church, Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro. The Rev. James F. Mole will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mary E. Johnson, 81, a resident of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of 52 N. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa., died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Jan. 10, 1917, in Greencastle, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Viola Crist Benchoff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Johnson, in 1992.
She attended Browns Mill School, Kauffman, Pa.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Greencastle.
She is survived by two sons, Paul J. Johnson of Hagerstown and Harry L. "Butch" Johnson of Greencastle; two sisters, Helen Murtoff of Gettysburg, Pa., and Jean Swisher of Greencastle; two brothers, Henry Benchoff and Fred Benchoff, both of Greencastle; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson; two sisters, Katherine Mummert and Louise Hummer; and three brothers, Harry Benchoff, Paul Benchoff and Harold Benchoff.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Brian Triller will officiate. Burial will be in Browns Mill Cemetery, Kauffman, Pa.

Mary I. Malles
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Mary I. Shockey Malles, 81, of 12954 Mentzer Gap Road, died Wednesday, June 24, 1994, at Waterman Memorial Hospital in Eustis, Fla.
Born Nov. 30, 1916, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ivy Emory Shockey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L. Malles, in 1974. They were married May 11, 1935.
She was employed at Gettysburg Shoe Factory. She subsequently worked at Monterey Country Club, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa. She also was a companion and housekeeper in a private home in Eastland Hills, Waynesboro.
She was a member of Calvary Chapel Episcopal Church, Beartown, Pa.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy Sease of Paisley, Fla.; two sisters, Ruth Price and Dorothy Pryor, both of Waynesboro; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Hampton; and four brothers, Richard Shockey, Reuben Shockey, Christian Shockey and Samuel Shockey.
Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. James F. Mole will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

Kathryn J. VanSant
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Kathryn Janet Kriner VanSant, 85, of 62 Mount Vernon Terrace, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at her home.
Born Dec. 7, 1912, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Harry M. and Lottie B. Holtzman Kriner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. VanSant, in 1989. They were married Oct. 5, 1933.
She attended Waynesboro schools.
She and her husband owned and operated VanSant's Grocery Store and a Dairy Queen, both in Waynesboro.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro.
She is survived by one son, Dr. Alan E. VanSant of York, Pa.; one sister, Gladys Patterson of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one nephew.
Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The Rev. Carl L. Buterbaugh will officiate.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

Paul L. Park
FORT LITTLETON, Pa. - Paul L. Park, 79, of Fort Littleton, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.
Born Feb. 18, 1919, in Springfield Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Traice Park and Ethel Norris Park Brown.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Blanche E. Shouse Park, in 1957.
He was a graduate of Coyne Electrical School, Chicago.
He retired in 1981, after 21 years with Rohm-Haas, Bristol, Pa., as a commercial electrician.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of National Rifle Association; and Alliance for America.
He is survived by his wife, Madaline I. Low Park, whom he married Sept. 25, 1970; two sisters, Thelma Anderson of Three Springs, Pa., and Elma Moyer of San Antonio; three brothers, Roy O. Park of Shade Gap, Pa., Foster Park and Sam D. Park, both of Fort Littleton; and one stepbrother, Reed Brown of Fort Littleton.
He was preceded in death by one sister; five brothers; and two stepbrothers.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at M. R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, Pa. The Rev. Belvy C. White will officiate. Burial will be in Old Methodist Cemetery, Three Springs.
Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
