Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

MARK A. BITTEL

Mark A. Bittel, 44, of Acme RD1, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at his home. He was born Feb. 20, 1956, in Pittsburgh, a son of Marcella Heintz Bittel of Brentwood and the late John Bittel. He was a service representative for Pitney Bowes for 23 years. He was a graduate of Brentwood High School in 1974 and a graduate of Penn Tech of Pittsburgh in 1976. Mark was a member and president of the Mt. Pleasant Recreational Soccer League for many years, where he was instrumental in its development and where he coached on many levels for most of those years. In addition to his mother , he is survived by his wife, Kathie Rodibaugh Bittel; a son, Jason John Bittel at home; two daughters , Katie Lyn and Holly Rose Bittel, both at home; two brothers , John Bittel and his wife, Marilyn, of Castle Shannon and Gary Bittel and his wife, Diane, of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Elaine Cline and her husband, Paul, of South Park; his maternal grandmother, Helen Heintz of Virginia Beach, Va.; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service for Mark will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Amazon Medical Project Inc., 5372 Mahocker Road, Mazomanie, WI 53560, in memory of Mark A. Bittel.

FLOYD S. BLOOM

Floyd S. Bloom, 93, of Unity Township, died Monday, July 3, 2000, in the St. Anne Home, Greensburg. He was born Sept. 20, 1906, in New Millport (Clearfield County), a son of the late Allen H. and Cornelia Tobias Bloom. He was a member of the Charter Oak United Methodist Church of Greensburg. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Alyce Ankeny Bloom; and several siblings. Prior to his retirement in 1971, he had been employed as a math teacher at the Greensburg Salem Senior High School. He was the last member of his family and is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at which time services will be held with the Rev. Dr. David A. Eversdyke officiating. Private interment will follow in the Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. Should friends desire, memorials may be placed with the St. Anne Home, 685 Angela Drive, Greensburg.

DORIS M. (PETERS) BOSSART

Doris M. (Peters) Bossart, 76, of Indio, Calif., formerly of Greensburg, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at home. She was born Oct. 15, 1923, in Greensburg, the daughter of the late John and Emma Kate (Cover) Peters. She was a member of the O.E.S. Chapter 400, Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne H. Bossart, in 1984; and a brother, John Peters. Survivors include two sons , Tim Bossart of Greensburg and Scott Bossart and wife, Karen, of Madison, Wis.; four daughters , Doris "Jeanne" Pitsenberger and husband, Graham, of Stanton, Va., Barbara Somers and husband, Jeffrey, of Indio, Calif., Linda Brigaman and husband, William, of Greensburg and Audrey Dell and husband, David, of Greensburg; 12 grandchildren, Todd and Paige Pitsenberger, Nathan and Jeremy Somers, Amy and Katie Brigaman, Haley, Drew and Abbey Bossart, and Brad, Missy and Brian Dell; and a brother, Karl Peters of Thousand Palms, Calif. Visitation and interment will be private. There will be a public memorial service Saturday, July 8, at 3 p.m. at the Harrold Zion Lutheran Church, Hempfield Township, with the Rev. Robert Free officiating. Memorials may be made to the Eisenhower Medical Center Hospice, 42280 Beacon Hill, Suite D11, Palm Desert, CA 92211. The VINCENT V. LARRY S. BRIDGE

Larry S. Bridge, 37, of Morgan City, La., formerly of Latrobe, died Friday, June 30, 2000, in Louisiana . He was born Feb. 28, 1963, in Latrobe, a son of Iona M. Zeltner Bridge of Florida and her close friend, Robert Ramsey, and the late Joseph G. Bridge. He was a former member of Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown, Pa. He was employed by the Candies Fleet of Louisiana . He served with the U.S. Marine Corps in Beirut, Lebanon, attaining the rank of lance corporal. In addition to his mother , he is survived by four brothers , Joseph L. Bridge and his wife, Roberta, of Sophia, N.C., Rodney A. Bridge and his wife, Susan, of Latrobe, Timothy C. Bridge and his wife, Lisa, of Latrobe and Barry G. Bridge of Louisiana ; a sister, Sandra D. Myers and her husband, Jay, of Acme; and a number of nieces and nephews. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe.

CHARLES W. CUNNINGHAM

Charles W. Cunningham, 90, of Star Route, Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, in Harmon House, Mt. Pleasant. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the LUTHER J. GRIMM FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Pleasant.

JOHN DAVID DAVIES

John David Davies, 73, of Butler, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at West Penn Hospital. He was born July 18, 1926, in Allison Park, a son of Ernest and Esther Slack Davies. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte (Piper), on March 31, 1963. He was a pharmaceutical salesperson for Bulex Laboratories, Wayne, N.J. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, and had been a lay reader and chalice bearer, former vestryman in his church. Also he was a former member of the Butler Jaycees and formerly active in the Butler Little Theater. Graduate of McKeesport High School, Pittsburgh University, and received a master's degree as a certified medical representative. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II in the European Theater during the Battle of the Bulge. Survived by his wife, Margery Wright Davies, whom he married on July 16, 1965; two sons , Christopher David Davies of Butler and Mark Winfield Davies of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a daughter, Susan Allison Davies of Butler; three granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter. There will be no public visitation. Funeral Friday at 5:30 p.m. in St. Peter's Episcopal Church with Rector Paul Gratz, interim pastor of St. Peter's Episcopal, officiating. Interment in St. Peter's Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family of John Davies suggests donations to the Leukemia Society of Western Pennsylvania , 1614 Clark Building, 717 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15222; St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 218 E. LIZABETH M. ROSSATELLI DeBLASIO

Lizabeth M. "Betty" Rossatelli DeBlasio, 81, of North Huntingdon, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born May 5, 1919, in Herminie, a daughter of the late Frank and Philamena Abate Rossatelli. Prior to retirement, she was employed in the housekeeping department of the Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, North Huntingdon, the Fairmont-Hahntown VFD Ladies Auxiliary, the Norwin AARP Chapter 70 of Circleville and the North Huntingdon Democratic Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters , Anne Abate and Rose Costanza; and two brothers , Mel Rossatelli and Albert Abate. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, James A. DeBlasio; a son, Vincent and his wife, Sherry DeBlasio, of North Huntingdon; three grandchildren, Melissa DeBlasio of White Oak, Vincent J. DeBlasio and Danielle Albinger, both of Chicago, Ill.; a stepgrandchild, John Ciuffoletti of Greensburg; a brother, Rocco Rossatelli of Ambridge; and three sisters , Margie Cantani of Herminie, Kay Fitsch of Elizabeth and Mary Selia of North Huntingdon. Friends received at the JOSEPH F. OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., 504 Oak St., Irwin, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Agnes Church. Entombment will follow in the Penn-Lincoln Mausoleum, North Huntingdon.

JOSEPH DILUCENTE

Joseph "Peppino" DiLucente, 70, of Glassport, died Sunday, July 2, 2000. He was born June 3, 1930, in Santangelo, Italy, a son of the late Nicola and Linda DiSaia DiLucente. He was a retired stone mason at Cost Construction Corp., and was self-employed. He was a member of the Queen of the Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Glassport. Survivors include his wife, Carmela DiNinno DiLucente; a son, Nicholas J. DiLucente of West Mifflin; two daughters , Linda M. DiLucente of Glassport and Patty A. DiLucente Shaw of Murrysville; a brother, Fiore DiLucente of Rome, Italy; two sisters , Maria Melocchi and Nicoletta Contestabile, both of North Versailles; and four grandchildren. Visitation at the E.C. FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, Glassport, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Thursday at noon in the Queen of the Rosary R.C. Church, Glassport, with Father Casimir Kedzierski as celebrant. Interment at Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 241 Fourth Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15222.

GILES C. DRISCOLL

Giles C. Driscoll, 73, died Sunday, July 2, 2000. Survivors include his wife, Clara (Murray) Driscoll; one daughter, Jean; three sons , Giles, Thomas, and Martin Driscoll; seven grandchildren, Valerie and Jessica Morrell, Evan, Eric, and Thomas Jr., Trent and Mason Driscoll; two sisters , Maryann Thompson and Margaret Bittner. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Driscoll; and a sister, Agnes Driscoll. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in FREYVOGEL SLATER FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 112 Fort Couch Road, Pittsburgh. Christian Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in St. Thomas More Church.

JOHN A. ELLIOTT

John A. Elliott, 74, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Ormond Beach, Fla., died Monday, June 19, 2000, in Scottsdale. Mr. Elliott was born in Pittsburgh. He was the grandson of W.S. Elliott, founder of the Elliott Co. in Jeannette. Mr. Elliott was a Navy veteran of World War II. He served in the Pacific area. Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ariz., and a member of the Elks Club. Burial will be in Homewood Cemetery in Pittsburgh. His sole survivor is his sister, Ann Weber of Ormond Beach, Fla. JAY LIVINGSTON FOSTER

Jay Livingston Foster, 83, of Longboat Key, Fla., formerly of Pittsburgh, died Sunday, July 2, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Betty R. Foster; a daughter; a son; a sister; and three grandchildren. Friends will be received Wednesday from 12:30 to 2 p.m., the time of services, at the Rodef Shalom Temple, 4905 Fifth Ave., Oakland. Interment West View Cemetery of the Rodef Shalom Congregation. ALEXANDER VANCE GILLILAND

Alexander Vance Gilliland, 93, formerly of Bellevue, died Sunday morning, July 2, 2000, at St. Petersburg, Fla. Born May 21, 1907, in Bellevue, the son of the late William Bald and Anna Neff Vance Gilliland. He had been a self- employed building contractor, building residences in the Bellevue area and continuing as real estate manager. He was a World War II veteran. He was an active member of the Bellevue United Presbyterian Church, and served as a director of the Standard Steel Specialty Co., Beaver Falls. Memberships included: Avalon Lodge #657 F&AM, Syria Temple Shrine, Scottish Rite, and the Royal Order of Jesters. He had been a lifelong resident of the Bellevue community until his retirement in 1971, when he moved to St. Petersburg. Mr. Gilliland was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Gardner Gilliland; and three sisters , Florence G. Armstrong, Alice D. Gilliland and Eleanor G. Gardner. Surviving are two sons , Dale Alexander Gilliland of Bellevue and Donald Alan Gilliland of St. Petersburg Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren, Virginia G. Petraglia, Ruth G. Riethmuller, Suzanne L. Gilliland, Heather G. Schaver and Sharon L. Gilliland. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren. Funeral services and interment will be private. Friends will be received Thursday, July 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the family residence, 123 S. Euclid Ave., Bellevue. If desired, memorial contributions in his name are suggested to the Organ Memorial Fund, c/o Riverview United Presbyterian Church, 3505 Perrysville Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15214. EDWARD S. GRABB

Edward S. Grabb, 91, of North Huntingdon, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, in Briarcliff Pavilion. He was born Oct. 25, 1908, in Sharpsburg, the son of the late Sylvester and Elizabeth Houck Grabb. He was a member of St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Firth Sterling as an inspector. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lois Zorko. He is survived by his wife, Mary Wrought Grabb; a son, David Grabb of Mt. Troy; a daughter, Nancy Kriss of Irwin; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home followed by entombment in Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park.

ETHEL G. OWENS HIGGINS

Ethel G. Owens Higgins, of Chalfant, died Monday, July 3, 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis J. Higgins. She is survived by a daughter; a son; and two grandchildren. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME INC., corner of Shaw and Triboro avenues, Turtle Creek, where services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
