Charles L. Keefer Sr.

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Charles L. Keefer Sr., 80, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Dec. 10, 1917, in Altenwald, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles Henry and Beatrice Eckenrode Keefer.

He was a Protestant.

He retired from Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, where he was a transmission inspector for 20 years. Previously, he was a mechanic at Shively Motors in Chambersburg for 10 years.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.

He was a member of Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion and Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW.

He was an avid woodworker and steam locomotive enthusiast.

He is survived by a son, Charles L. Keefer Jr. of Chambersburg; a stepdaughter, Kathryn Hoyns of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Irma Sollenberger, a resident of Quincy Home, Quincy, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a stepson.

Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Caroline Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Clair L. Wrights

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Clair L. Wrights, 74, of 465 Warm Spring Road, died Friday, June 19, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Oct. 19, 1923, in East Berlin, Pa., he was the son of the late Claude E. and Esther M. Kroft Wrights.

He was a 1941 graduate of East Berlin High School.

He was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, where he was a production controller, retiring in 1980 with 36 years of service.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Air Force. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.

He also was a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees, American Association of Retired Persons and the 43rd Bomb Group Association.

He is survived by his wife, Julia I. Dickey Wrights, whom he married Nov. 9, 1946; three  daughters, Patricia A. Wenger of Newburg, Pa., Linda L. Brooks of Chambersburg and Susan M. Wrights of Ellicott City, Md.; four sisters, Kathleen Brown and Lena Reichert, both of Hanover, Pa., Louise Heiser of Ohio, and Hazel McCarthy of York, Pa.; two brothers, Glenn Wrights of Abbottstown, Pa., and Larry Wrights of Virginia; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.

A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap Military Cemetery in Annville, Pa.

There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 26 W. Commerce St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or to the charity of one's choice.

Anthony T. Kerlin

SPRING RUN, Pa. - Anthony T. "Tony" Kerlin, 16, of 15977 Mountain Green Road, died Friday, June 19, 1998, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Montgomery Township, Pa.

Born July 27, 1981, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of Edward J. Kerlin of Spring Run and Karen Starr Miller of Chambersburg, Pa.

He recently completed his junior year at James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg, Pa.

He was a member of Spring Run United Methodist Church in Spring Run, where he helped with the church choir.

He also was a member of the boys swim team and boys tennis team at James Buchanan High School, and Mercersburg Area Swim Club. He enjoyed golfing and hunting.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Sarah E. Kerlin, at home; a stepbrother, Shaun R. Miller of Chambersburg; stepmother, Danelle E. Curfman Kerlin of Spring Run; stepfather, Chris Miller of Chambersburg; paternal grandparents, William and Frances Koser Kerlin of Mercersburg; maternal grandparents, Joseph "Tom" and Doris Starr of Fort Loudon, Pa.; stepgrandparents, Ed and Kathleen Miller of Chambersburg, and William and Mary Myers Curfman Hockenberry of Fannettsburg, Pa.; stepgreat-grandparents, Irving and Anna Mary Myers of Chambersburg, and Arie Kerlin of McConnellsburg, Pa.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Spring Run United Methodist Church in Spring Run. The Rev. Karl R. Herman will officiate. Burial will be in Lower Path Valley Cemetery in Fannettsburg.

A viewing will be held at John L. Agett Funeral Home, 18875 Main St., Dry Run, Pa., from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial donations may be made to James Buchanan High School Swimming Boosters, c/o James Buchanan High School, 4773 Fort Loudon Road, Mercersburg, Pa. 17236.

Mildred L. Bowers

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Mildred L. Funk Bowers, 84, of 11591 Williamsport Pike, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Md.

Born July 3, 1913, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jacob David and Lilly Mae Cool Funk.

Her husband, Roger J. Bowers, died in 1994. They were married April 25, 1936.

She was a 1931 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

She was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Greencastle.

She is survived by four  daughters, Nancy B. Roschli, of Greencastle, with whom she resided, Barbara B. Noe of Harrisonville, Pa., Susan B. Malony of Naples, Fla., and Linda B. Fearnow of Hagerstown; twin sons, Michael R. Bowers of Blacksburg, Va., and Stephen R. Bowers of Fort Collins, Colo.; two sisters, Helen T. Funk of Payson, Ariz., and Patricia F. Manns of Greenwood, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude F. Johnston and Pauline F. Peters; and two brothers, Earl F. Funk and Robert E. Funk.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 395 S. Ridge Ave., Greencastle, with the Rev. Joseph L. Stahura as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery in Waynesboro, Pa.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 395 S. Ridge Ave., Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Earnest W. Bowie

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Earnest Wade Bowie, 82, of 82 S. Federal St., died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at ManorCare Health Services in Chambersburg.

Born Oct. 24, 1915, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Thurston B. and Violet V. Tipton Bowie.

He worked for 15 years in sales at Forresters Lincoln Mercury Inc. in Chambersburg, retiring in 1971. He was self-employed in Chambersburg for a number of years.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was a member of Zion Reformed Church in Chambersburg.

He also was a member of Burt J. Asper Post 46, American Legion in Chambersburg, and National AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Helen E. Hays Bowie; one daughter, Mona L. Suders of Chambersburg; two sons, Dennis W. Bowie of Harrisburg, Pa., and Terry L. Bowie of Enola, Pa.; three grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Norland Cemetery in Chambersburg. The Rev. Jeffrey R. Diller and the Rev. Robert D. Morrison will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Zion Reformed Church, 259 S. Main St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home Inc., Chambersburg.

Charles D. Pryor

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Charles D. Pryor, 79, of 319 E. King St., died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at his home.

Born June 3, 1919, in Little Cove, Pa., he was the son of the late J. Albert and Ella May Pensinger Pryor.

He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot after 35 years.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46 and Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post 1599, both in Chambersburg.

He is survived by one sister, Thelma P. Foreman of Chambersburg; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, Pa. The Rev. Milton W. Benny Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg, with military graveside services by Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post Honor Guard.

There will be no viewing.

Shaun M. Netz

STATE LINE, Pa. - Shaun Michael Netz, 16, of 15458 Skyline Drive, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, in Williamsport, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Born July 2, 1981, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Michael E. and Lisa G. Ecton Netz.

He was to be a senior at Greencastle Antrim High School in the fall.

He was employed at the Northern Avenue McDonald's in Hagerstown.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Melissa S. Netz, at home; maternal grandparents, Clement A. and Betty L. Ecton of Hagerstown; paternal grandparents, Luther E. Netz of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Patricia J. Netz of Milton, Del.; stepgrandmother, Patricia A. Netz of Hagerstown; 11 aunts, 10 uncles, 31 cousins.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Crystal Lynn Netz.

Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Gary Keefer will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.

Vera R. Mummert

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Vera R. Heckman Myers Mummert, 87, a resident of Piney Mountain, and formerly of 250 E. Grant St., Greencastle, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital.

Born April 30, 1911, near St. Thomas, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Bessie F. Statler Heckman.

Her first husband, Harvey H. Myers, died in 1966.

Her second husband, John E. Mummert, died in 1975.

She worked at the former Interwoven Hosiery Mill in Greencastle, and then at the former Apple Packing House in Chambersburg and the former Baer Packing Plant in Greencastle.

She was a member of Macedonia United Brethren Church near Greencastle, was a teacher in the children's Sunday school and was active in the Women's Missionary Association.

She enjoyed crocheting.

She is survived by one daughter, Shirley J. Walck of Greencastle; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Harold H. Myers; and one sister, Nora Baumbaugh.

Services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Macedonia United Brethren Church, 11887 Worleytown Road, Greencastle. The Rev. Gayle L. Ruble Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of Macedonia United Brethren Church, 11887 Worleytown Road, Greencastle, Pa. 17225.
