Margaret D.Y. Mowrey
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Margaret Drucilla Yaukey Mowrey, 85, of 11924 N. Woodlea Drive, died of heart failure at her home Wednesday, June 17, 1998.
Born July 16, 1912, in Fayetteville, Greene Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Rush B. and Ivanna M. Rossman Yaukey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger C. Mowrey, in 1995.
She attended Chambersburg, Pa., schools.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Quincy United Methodist Church, Quincy, Pa., and Willing Workers Sunday School Class.
She is survived by one daughter, Pamela K. Mowrey of Waynesboro; and two grandsons, Alexander P. Shockey of Milwaukee and Matthew D. Shockey of Waynesboro.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Y. Kuhn.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 25, at 7 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. James C. House will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends following the service.

John E. Jannuzi
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - John Edward Jannuzi, 77, of 2946 Paxton Court, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at Avalon Manor, Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 13, 1921, in Beaver Falls, Pa., he was the son of the late Raphael and Teresa Silvester Jannuzi.
He was a former member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Fayetteville, Pa.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran he served during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion; Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW; Landis-McCleaf Detachment Marine Corps League; AMVETS Post 224; and 40 & 8.
He was a 1938 graduate of Beaver Falls High School and a 1952 graduate of Clarion State Teachers College. He received his master's degree in 1956 from Western Maryland College.
He began his teaching career at Scotland School for Veteran's Children in Scotland, Pa. He became academic principal in 1959. He became assistant superintendent and athletic director in 1965, and in 1978 was superintendent of Scotland School for Veteran's Children until his retirement in 1983.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Bish Jannuzi, whom he married July 21, 1951; two daughters, Julie Dahle Jannuzi of Monkton, Md., and Jenifer Coffroth of Cleona, Pa.; twin sons, Joseph Jannuzi of Hagerstown and Charles Jannuzi of Fukui University, Japan; three sisters, Laura Wilson of Falmouth, Mass., Clo Smith of Clearwater, Fla., and Elaine Moyer of Jacksonville, Ore.; one brother, Eugene Jannuzi of Beaver Falls; and three grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday, June 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. Pastor Lloyd Zimmerman and Pastor Robert Murr will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, with graveside military honors by members of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard.
Visitation will be Monday, June 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

John L. Coover
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - John Lester Coover, 90, of 60 C Menno Village, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at Menno Haven Retirement Center.
Born Nov. 22, 1907, in Shippensburg, Pa., he was the son of the late John H. and Anna Wonders Coover.
He received his bachelor of science degree from Shippensburg State College, and his master of arts degree from Columbia University.
He was a World War II veteran.
He was an educator in Pennsylvania schools for 21 years. He taught in Hagerstown schools for 27 years.
He coached baseball at Hagerstown High, and was assistant coach of the basketball and football teams. In 1958 he moved to the new North Hagerstown High School. He was appointed vice principal in 1963 and held that position until his retirement. He was athletic director.
He was a member of Haven Lutheran Church.
He was a member of Hagerstown Suburban Kiwanis Club; Morris Frock American Legion Post 42; and Washington County Retired Teachers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine Coover of Chambersburg.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Coover and Katie Railing; and two brothers, Walter Coover and George Coover.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle, Pa.

Carrie B. Southwick
Carrie Bitner Southwick, 89, a resident of Garlock Manor Nursing Home and formerly of 222 Summit Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, June 19, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 27, 1908, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John Samuel and Lillie Blanche Brewer Bitner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Dean Southwick, in 1965.
She was a graduate of Greencastle High School; and Waynesboro Business College.
She was employed by Washington County Board of Education, as manager of the cafeteria at Washington Street School, retiring in 1974.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was a member of Lutheran Church Women.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by two stepdaughters, Shirley Kiniry of North Security, N.Y. and Janet Clark of North Syracuse, N.Y.; two stepgranddaughters; two stepgreat-grandchildren; three nieces; and five nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Grace M. Sterling, Margie L. Haugh, E. Blanche Pieffer and M. Floriene Kershner.
Graveside services will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Winifred Loretta Buterbaugh
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Winifred Loretta Buterbaugh, 64, of 306 N. Second St., died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg.
Born Dec. 18, 1933, in Hamilton, Bermuda, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Sarah Benebedes Marshall.
She was a housewife. She also worked as a sales clerk for Family Dollar Store; and as a seamstress for Sagner Clothing Manufacturing at one time.
She was a member of McConnellsburg United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Buterbuagh, whom she married July 26, 1951; two daughters, Pamela Carmack of McConnellsburg and Jo-Ann Taylor of Manchester, Md.; two sons, Denny Buterbaugh and Ross Buterbaugh, both of McConnellsburg; one brother, Herbert Marshall of Bermuda; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at McConnellsburg United Methodist Church. The Rev. Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.
Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m., at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, McConnellsburg.

Harold C. Layman
QUINCY, Pa. - Harold Crawford Layman, 91, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home and formerly of 32 N. Church St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Friday, June 19, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Jan. 10, 1907, in Zullinger, Pa., he was the son of the late Harvey W. and Kathryn Heckman Layman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Bumbaugh Layman, in 1938.
He had been employed by Liberty Motors Division of Bendix Corp. Prior to retiring in July 1969, he was a laboratory technician for Union Carbide Corp. in Cleveland, Ohio, for 24 years.
He was a member of Warren Lodge 51 Free and Accepted Masons, Baltimore; Order of the Owls Club Nest 1073; Eagles Club; Fraternal Order of Eagles 1758; Waynesboro Fish and Game Association; a life member of Mechanics Steam Fire Engine and Hose Co. 1, all of Waynesboro; and South Mountain Fish and Game Association, South Mountain, Pa.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, William Layman; one sister, Helen Thompson; and two half brothers, Theodore Funk and Carl Zieman.
Graveside services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Price's Church Cemetery, along Pa. 316 near Waynesboro. The Rev. C. Albert Guyer will officiate.
It was his request to have no public viewing.

Harry A. Double
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Harry A. Double, 14, of 3599 Lemar Road, died Thursday, June 19, 1998, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Aug. 10, 1983, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of Clair and Audrey Keebaugh Double.
He recently completed the eighth grade at James Buchanon Middle School.
He attended St. Thomas (Pa.) Assembly of God Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Debra Double, at home; a brother, Keith Double of Waynesboro, Pa.; and his maternal grandmother, Alice Starliper of Shippensburg, Pa.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Thomas Assembly of God Church. The Revs. Alvin J. Hezlep and Kenneth Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the church on Tuesday.

Tiarra M. Miller
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Tiarra May Miller, 19, of 4752 Fort Loudon Road, died Friday, June 19, 1998, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Montgomery Township, Pa.
Born May 14, 1979, in McConnellsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Joseph L. and Starr A. Lindsay Miller of Mercersburg.
She was a 1997 graduate of James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg, where she was a member of the band, chorus, show choir and Future Homemakers of America. At the time of her death, she attended Hagerstown Community College, majoring in communications.
She was a partner in Miller Family Day Care of Mercersburg. She worked at Whitetail for two seasons.
She enjoyed singing, music, children, and collecting frogs and candles.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Storme W.A. Miller of Mercersburg; maternal grandparents, Robert and Hazel Lindsay of Mercersburg; paternal grandparents, Lee and Barbara Miller of Scott, La.; and paternal grandparents, John and Edith Simar of Iota, La.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Clayton Memorial Church of God, 6701 Charlestown Road, Mercersburg. The Revs. David E. Pine and Alvin E. Goetz will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.
The family will receive friends at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, today from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open from noon to 9 p.m. today.
