Alice M. Wood
QUINCY, Pa. - Alice Marie Stitely Wood, 77, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 220 Cleveland Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born May 28, 1921, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Elmer H. and Mabel Violet Reecher Stitely.
Her husband, Albert Wood, died in 1995. They were married Oct. 22, 1944.
She was a 1939 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
Prior to World War II, she worked at Newberry's Department Store and then Worth's Ladies Dress Shop, both in Waynesboro. She was last employed as a nurses' aide at South Mountain Restoration Center in South Mountain, Pa., for several years.
She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, where she taught Sunday school for a number of years.
She also volunteered as a telephoner for the Meals on Wheels program and the Bloodmobile, both in the Waynesboro area.
She is survived by one daughter, Joanne M. Ryan of Westfield, N.Y.; one sister, Mary Muck of Waynesboro; two grandchildren, Timothy Wood Ryan and Amy Margaret Ryan, both of Westfield; one niece and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery near Rouzerville.
There will be no public viewing; however the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Cora P. Cook
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Cora P. Pogue Cook, 86, of 265 Park St., died Friday, June 5, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born July 20, 1911, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Chester and Ida Coy Pogue.
Her husband, Leroy L. Cook, died in 1976. They were married May 8, 1927.
Early in life, she worked at Waynesboro Manufacturing Co. as a supervisor. During World War II, she worked at Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro. She was later employed by West Palm Beach Industries in Waynesboro, retiring in 1976.
She was a member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church in Waynesboro, and attended Ringgold Church of Christ in Ringgold.
She also was a member of Widows Support Group of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Waynesboro, National AARP, and South Chapter 2977 AARP in Waynesboro.
She is survived by one son, Richard R. Cook of Waynesboro; two brothers, Chester Pogue of Chambersburg, and Carroll Pogue of Essex, Md.; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, William L. Cook; twin infant daughters; four sisters; and two brothers.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Donald Conley will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Edward J. Short
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Edward J. "Jerry" Short, 51, of 168 Kennedy St., died Friday, June 5, 1998, at his home.
Born April 24, 1947, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Gladys I. Gerbig Short of Chambersburg, and the late Jack E. Short.
Prior to his illness, he worked as a motor assembler for G.S. Electric.
He was a member of The Open Door Church of Chambersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Lenora B. Hess Short, whom he married July 28, 1969; two daughters, Tessa I. Short and Wendy B. Beam, both of Chambersburg; one sister, Juanita Book of Horseshoe Bend, Ark.; and three granddaughters.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home Inc., 6492 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, Pa. The Rev. Arthur Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Friends may visit the funeral home from 2 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Betty F. Smith
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Betty F. Smith, 73, of 5019 Treher Road, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at her home.
Born June 28, 1924, in Frankstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jacob B. and Dorothy I. Buck Miller.
Her husband, Frederick T. Smith, died in 1997.
She was a 1942 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School in Altoona, Pa.
She was a homemaker. She had worked as a stenographer and an IBM worker in Baltimore, and in Altoona, Pa., as an IBM operator.
She did community service in Fayetteville.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fayetteville.
She is survived by two sons, Donald J. Shaffer of Upper Strasburg, Pa., and John T. Smith of Fayetteville; a stepson, Myron E. Smith of Warminster, Pa.; a brother, Robert B. Miller of Glen Burnie, Md.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.
Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. David L. Hefner will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.
A viewing will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
George H. Jones
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - George H. Jones, 88, a resident of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of 8117 Orrstown Road, Pleasant Hall, Pa., died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born June 21, 1909, in Fayetteville, Pa., he was the son of the late Fred and Fannie Stoner Jones.
His wife, Mary I. Evans Jones, died in 1994.
He was a self-employed farmer, retiring in 1968. He subsequently was employed as a night watchman at the former Domestic Pump Co. in Shippensburg, Pa., and as a deputy sheriff in Franklin County, Pa.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 842 in Chambersburg, the Franklin County Fire Police Association, and a life member of Pleasant Hall (Pa.) Volunteer Fire Co.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by one son, George V. Jones of Lurgan, Pa.; two sisters, Esta Barncord and Betty Blocker, both of Illinois; one brother, Mervil G. Jones of Chambersburg, Pa.; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Services will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, Pa. The Rev. Kenneth E. Wenger will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Chambersburg.
A viewing will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday one hour prior to the service.

Michael A. Baumgardner
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Michael Alexander Baumgardner, 20, of 8076 Lyons Road, died Monday, June 8, 1998, in a traffic accident on Codorus Furnace Road, Hellam Township, York County, Pa.
Born Jan. 2, 1978, in Waynesboro, he was the son of Allen M. and Mary Alice Dress Baumgardner of Waynesboro.
He was a 1996 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School. He was attending Bradley Academy of Art, York, Pa., studying for a career in video production. He served an internship with Time-Life Books of Alexandria, Va., in the summer of 1997.
He was a member of Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by brother, Matthew C. Baumgardner of Alexandria; his twin brother, Mark Andrew Baumgardner, also a student at Bradley Academy of Art; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the family home at 8076 Lyons Road, Waynesboro. Pastor Neil A. Daetz will officiate. The family will receive friends following the services.
There will be no public viewing.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, June 17, at noon at Bradley Academy of Art, 1409 Williams Road, York.

Marian A. Hann
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Marian A. Hann, 78, formerly of Hustontown, Pa., died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, in the Skilled Care Unit of Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg.
Born June 9, 1920, in Hustontown, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Laura Alice Kegerries Martz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George S. Hann Sr., in 1995.
She retired in 1983 as manager of Howard Johnson's Restaurant at Sidling Hill Plaza on the Pennsylvania Turnpike after 25 years.
She was a member of Hustontown United Methodist Church.
She was a past worthy matron of Fulton Chapter 519, Order of the Eastern Star, McConnellsburg.
She is survived by one daughter, Joan Houck of New Grenada, Pa.; one son, George S. Hann Jr. of Fort Littleton, Pa.; one sister, Evelyn Clevenger of McConnellsburg, Pa.; six brothers, Oscar Martz of Knobsville, Pa., Palmer Martz of Pittsburgh, and Harold Martz, Fred Martz, Frank Martz and Raymond Martz, all of Hustontown; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown. The Rev. Donald Bard and the Rev. Thomas Maurer will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Brethren Cemetery, Needmore, Pa.
Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ada P. DeShong
HARRISONVILLE, Pa. - Ada Pauline Swope DeShong, 84, of Harrisonville, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.
Born March 11, 1914, in Pleasant Ridge, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William L. and Annie Mellott Swope.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl J. DeShong, in 1970.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore, Pa. She was a member of Ladies Aid. She was a church clerk from 1947 to 1993 and a primary Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Wright of Baltimore, Dorothy Welsh of McConnellsburg and Betty Ramsey of Harrisonville; two sisters, Ethel Mellott and Stella Wakefield, both of Needmore; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one great-grandson; one sister; and seven brothers.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore. Pastor William Swope will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville; and Saturday one hour before the service at the church.
