McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Virginia C. "Jenny" Seville, 75, of McConnellsburg, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa.
Born Aug. 29, 1922, in Knobsville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Chalmer A. and Hazel Owens Gress.
She retired in 1981 from Waynesboro Knitting, and had worked for Sagner Inc., McConnellsburg. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, James F. Seville, whom she married Sept. 30, 1940; three daughters, Jane Sheffield and Debra Dick, both of McConnellsburg, and Teresa Miller of Hagerstown; one brother, Harold "Barney" Gress Sr. of McConnellsburg; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred V. "Tootsie" Hann.
She was a member of the former Bethlehem United Methodist Church, McConnellsburg.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Evangel Assembly of God Church, McConnellsburg. The Rev. Belvy C. White will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.
Friends may call today from 3 to 9 p.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, Pa., and Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Charles H. Kendall
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Charles H. Kendall, 78, of McConnellsburg, died Thursday, June 4, 1998, in Big Cove Tannery, Pa.
Born Feb. 6, 1920, in Ayr Township, Pa., he was the son of the late James H. and Myra Nelson Kendall.
He farmed in Fulton County for 47 years.
He was a member of McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of Mount Zion Lodge; Harrisburg Consistory; was a former school director for Central Fulton School District; and was a life member of McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co., receiving his 50-year pin in 1995.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Bivens Kendall, whom he married April 4, 1942; one brother, William L. Kendall of McConnellsburg; and a nephew, who lived with the Kendalls after the death of his parents, Jerome Harness of Greencastle, Pa.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathrine Harness; and four brothers, Nelson Kendall, Richard Kendall, Walter Kendall and Harold Kendall.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Trent Hancock and the Rev. Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, McConnellsburg.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mildred J. Foster
HARRISONVILLE, Pa. - Mildred J. Foster, 77, of Harrisonville, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at her home in Licking Creek Township, Fulton County, Pa.
Born Jan. 2, 1921, in Licking Creek Township, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Mary Lasko Sponsler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Foster.
She retired after 35 years as a school bus driver for Central Fulton School District, McConnellsburg, Pa.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Needmore, Pa.
She was a member of Green Hill Sewing Club; and an auxiliary member of the American Legion and VFW, McConnellsburg.
She is survived by six children, Linda Morningstar of Jacksonville, Fla., James Foster of McConnellsburg, Sandra Sheffield and Chyrel Foster, both of Harrisonville, Pa., Gerald Foster of Hustontown, Pa., and Sherry Caione of Mercersburg, Pa.; one sister, Gladys Orth of Harrisonville; two brothers, Robert Sponsler of Harrisburg, and John Sponsler of Los Angeles; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Gary Lynn Foster; two sisters; and two brothers.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral, Hustontown. The Rev. Denver Plessinger will officiate. Burial will be in Sideling Hill Christian Church Cemetery, Needmore, Pa.
Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
Nina C. Smith
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Nina C. Smith, 96, of 526 W. 6th St., formerly of Brownsville, Pa., died Friday, June 5, 1998, at Piney Mountain Home in Fayetteville, Pa.
Born Sept. 26, 1901, in Hillsboro, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George P. and Virginia M. Morgan Gladwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert H. Smith, in 1977.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruth G. Brown of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sons, Hobert J. Smith of Waynesboro and George E. Smith of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; one sister, Elton Mae Gladwell Campbell of Piney Mountain Home; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Myrtle Gladwell Sheets, Eula Gladwell Bell and Glenna Mae Gladwell Grim; five brothers, Wheller William Gladwell, Harry H. Gladwell, Dumeron D. Gladwell, Clarence C. Gladwell and Burley S. Gladwell.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at noon in Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton, Va. The Rev. Bill Johnson of Crossroads Baptist Church in Staunton will officiate.
Arrangements are by Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home in Waynesboro.
Walter R. Pearson
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Walter R. Pearson, 56, of 20 E. Madison St., died Friday, June 5, 1998, at his home.
Born March 29, 1942, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Ross S. and Catherine Leah Berger Pearson.
He was a 1959 graduate of Greencastle High School.
He was employed with Grove Worldwide in Shady Grove for six years. Most recently, he was employed with Sheetz Inc. in Greencastle.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1962.
He is survived by two sons, Walter Pearson Jr. of Greencastle and Chance Pearson of Phoenix; two sisters, Rebecca Snure of Orange Park, Fla. and Fran Preston of Raleigh, N.C.; and a brother, Edward Pearson of Springfield, Va.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Leah Pearson Rogers.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Ned M. Shatzer
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ned M. Shatzer, 72, of 209 Appleblossom Way, died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg.
Born June 25, 1925, in Culbertson, Pa., he was the son of the late Walker R. and Ruth E. Martin Shatzer
He was an equipment operator with E.D. Plummer & sons in Chambersburg and also had worked for E.F. Goetz & sons Construction Co. and Sunnyway Foods, both of Chambersburg.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1945, then enlisted in the Army Air Force from 1945 to 1947.
He was a member of Open Door Church in Chambersburg and had served as an usher.
He was a life member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Chambersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes V. Rotz Shatzer, whom he married Sept. 21, 1962; a daughter, Jolene Riley of Iceland; three sons, Jerry Shatzer of Alpharetta, Ga., Jeff Shatzer of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ned M. Shatzer Jr. of Baltimore; a stepdaughter, Thea L. Allen of Newport News, Va.; three stepsons, Larry F. Cox of Spring, Texas, Gary D. Cox of Fayetteville, Pa., and Michael L. Cox of Chambersburg; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers and two half sisters.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Revs. Keith Skelton and Arthur Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. Members of Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 will conduct a military graveside service.
Viewing will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

William F. Ebersole
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - William F. Ebersole, 75, of 1481 Woods Road, died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Oct. 31, 1922, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Lester H. and Miriam V. Fisher Ebersole.
He was a retired foreman with Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 842 in Chambersburg.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and bowler.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy J. Robinson Ebersole; a daughter, Virginia E. Baker of Chambersburg; four stepsons, John Briggs and Jeffrey Briggs, both of Chambersburg, Stephen Briggs of Mifflin, Pa., and Michael Briggs of Dover, Del.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Ebersole Jr. and John Ebersole; and a grandson.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. John R. Springer will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Ralph R. Rideout
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ralph R. Rideout, 78, a 35-year resident of Chambersburg, and formerly of 514 Brumbaugh Ave., died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Martinsburg Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va., after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 26, 1920, in Shippensburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph and Edna Roberts Rideout.
He was a Baptist.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a corporal.
He was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot for more than 20 years as an engineer and then as a supervisor with the South Mountain Restoration Center. Most recently he worked for Jennings GMC in Chambersburg.
He was an automobile and motorcycle enthusiast.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Yates of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Evita Oseguera of Los Angeles; four sons, Ralph Rideout of California, David Rideout of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Vaniel Barbour and Eugene Rideout, both of Chambersburg; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. James Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
