S. Arlene Monn

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - S. Arlene Knepper Monn, 78, a resident of Piney Mountain Nursing Home and formerly of 17247 Anthony Highway, Waynesboro, Pa., died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born Oct. 2, 1919, in Blue Rock, Pa., she was the daughter of the late R. Chester and Rebecca Jane Moats Knepper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, S. Gilson "Gil" Monn, in 1995. They were married in 1940.

She attended Quincy schools.

She was employed at Stanley Co., Chambersburg, Pa. Later, she did seasonal work for Knouse Foods, Ortanna, Pa.

She was a member of Blue Rock United Brethren in Christ Church, Tomstown, and Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She was pianist in the early years of the church.

She is survived by a brother, Percy E. Knepper of Wayne Heights, Pa.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Olive I. Mentzer; and four brothers, Norman H. Knepper, Ray B. Knepper, Charles H. Knepper and Earl E. Knepper.

Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Donald L. Bender and the Rev. Arnold E. Wagaman will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Quincy, Pa.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary E. Miller

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mary E. Miller, 69, of 9554 Eden Drive, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Shook Home, Chambersburg.

Born Nov. 13, 1928, in Lewistown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Carl A. and Evelyn M. Henry Moore.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John R. Newman, in 1972.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Garnet E. Miller, in January 1998.

She had been a secretary for Blair Hess Insurance of Lewistown and Blacks Hospital in Lewistown; and, with her second husband, owned and operated Garnet Miller Orchards in Chambersburg.

She was a member of East Waterford Methodist Church.

She was a member of Dorsett Grange, Concord, Pa.

She is survived by one sister, Betty Kline of Reedsville, Pa.; and six brothers, William W. Moore of New Cumberland, Pa., Paul M. Moore of Huntingdon, Pa., George C. Moore and James F. Moore, both of Belleville, Pa., Robert E. Moore of McVeytown, Pa., and Ronald L. Moore of Blairs Mills, Pa.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, Pa. The Rev. Stan McCammon will officiate. Burial will be in Brechbill Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Mount Olivet United Brethren Church, 8094 Fort McCord Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or Waterford Methodist Church, East Waterford, Pa. 17021.

Melissa L. Biesecker

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Melissa Lynn Biesecker, infant daughter of Kevin K. and Jeanette R. Shearer Biesecker, of 1645 Scotland Ave., died shortly after birth Monday, June 1, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandparents, Richard S. and Phyllis E. Rowe Smith of Mont Alto, Pa., and Robert L. and Susan E. Shearer of Waynesboro, Pa.; paternal grandmother, Donna L. McCoy Biesecker of Steelton, Pa.; maternal great-grandmothers, Rella C. Rowe a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa. and LaRue M. Shearer of Luther Ridge, Chambersburg; paternal great-grandmothers, Anna Mary Vonada of Dauphin, Pa., and Freda Biesecker of Middletown, Pa.; and three uncles.

Graveside services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. Pastor K. Allan Mummert will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Paul E. Shetter

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Paul E. "Sonny" Shetter, 61, of 1260 Crottlestown Road, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born June 22, 1936, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Dorothy E. Seylar Shetter of Chambersburg and the late Paul E. Shetter Sr.

He had been service manager for Brechbill-Helman Construction since 1985. He previously was co-owner of S&S Auto Service, Chambersburg.

He was a member, former board member and trustee of Criders United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Phyllis E. Buchanan Shetter; one daughter, Cherie L. Sipes of Chambersburg; one son, Steven P. Shetter of Chambersburg; three sisters, Norma Horst, Vonda Morrison and Joyce Shives, all of Chambersburg; two brothers, Donald Shetter of Shippensburg, Pa., and Gary Shetter of Chambersburg; and three grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. David B. Newell and the Rev. Ronald L. Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Viewing will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Criders United Brethren Church, Pavilion Fund, 2380 Loudon Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Rena M. Simmons

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Rena Maybelle Waltz Simmons, 43, of 242 Wayne Ave., died Monday, June 1, 1998 at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 3, 1955, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of Marcella A. Snively Waltz of Waynesboro and the late Floyd M. Waltz.

She was a 1972 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School and attended Shippensburg (Pa.) State College. She was enrolled at Hagerstown Junior College taking courses in human resources.

She was a member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church of Waynesboro, and was trustee, director the Young People's Department and as president of the Lawn Committee.

She worked as a missionary in Franklin County and was active in the after-school program for children. She was active in the Girl Scouts and worked for the Salvation Army. She also worked in programs for migrants and abused children.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, R. Mahlon Simmons and James C. Simmons, both of Waynesboro; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul AME Church, 30 W. King St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Gregory P. Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

Memorial donations may be made to the Lawn Committee of the church.

Charles E. Glenn

CARLISLE, Pa. - Charles E. Glenn, 93, of Thornwald Home, formerly of McConnellsburg, Pa., died Monday, June 1, 1998, at the home.

Born Nov. 16, 1904, in McConnellsburg, he was the son of the late Hoyt and Louisa Woodall Glenn.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Crouse Glenn, in 1977.

He was a retired Fulton County farmer.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, McConnellsburg.

He was a life member and former chaplain of McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co., a past director and president of Central Fulton School Board and the last sitting associate judge of Fulton County.

He is survived by one daughter, Martha LaRue of Harrisburg, Pa.; four sisters, Dorothy Glenn and Irene Layton, both of Harrisburg, Beatrice Secrist of Virginia and Elizabeth Paylor of Hershey, Pa.; one brother, Ralph Glenn of McConnellsburg; one stepgranddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by three infant sons; two sisters, Betty Glenn and Ethel Clouser; and one brother, Sloan Glenn.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. Barron Barley will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, North Second Street, McConnellsburg, Pa. 17233.

Lawrence L. Packer III

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Graveside services for Lawrence Leroy "Bill" Packer III, 46, of Boca Raton, who died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at his home, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Mark's Cemetery, Lappans, Md. The Rev. Anne O. Weatherholt will officiate.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Pamela J. Stein

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Pamela J. Stein, 51, of 14022 Williamsport Pike, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at the home of her parents, 28 Edward Drive.

Born Nov. 27, 1946, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of Ralph M. and Bernice L. Mentzer Walck of Greencastle.

She was a 1964 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School.

She was a bank investigator representative with First Data Services of Hagerstown.

She was a member of Greencastle Presbyterian Church where she had taught the Nursery Sunday School Class and was a member of the former Presco group.

She was a member of Moss Spring Swim Club, Greencastle.

She is survived by two  daughters, Wendy J. Deshong of Greencastle and Stephanie J. Stein, at home; one sister, Kathy S. Williams of Greencastle; one brother, Timothy R. Walck of Greencastle; her fiance, Norman W. Pine of Greencastle; two nieces; one nephew; and aunts and uncles.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Greencastle Presbyterian Church, 57 W. Baltimore St. The Rev. Rawley Boone will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle and at the church Saturday one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, Franklin Co. Unit, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or the Building Fund of Greencastle Presbyterian Church, 57 W. Baltimore St., Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Guy R. Sipe

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Guy R. Sipe, 85, of 50-D Menno Village, 2075 Scotland Ave., and formerly of 5 Oregon St., Mercersburg, Pa., died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Jan. 14, 1913, in Harrisonville, Pa., he was the son of the late Roland and Faye Sipe Sipe.

He attended Pennsylvania State University.

He worked as a forester for the U.S. Forest Service and for Fairchild Industries, Hagerstown, in quality control. He was last employed at the former PBS Coal Co., Mercersburg.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mercersburg.

He was a member of Modern Woodsman of America.

He is survived by his wife, Bertie Winegardner Sipe, whom he married Sept. 14, 1935; one daughter, Doris Jean Knight of Frankfort, Ill.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Menno Haven Chapel. The Rev. Samuel L. Sheffler and the Rev. Vernon Isner will officiate. Private burial in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, will be held at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to National Parkinson's Disease Association, Suite 901, 2020 Pennsylvania Ave. Northwest, Washington, D.C. 20006.

Arrangements are by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg.
