Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Dean R. Christman

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Dean R. Christman, 67, of 1024 Warm Spring Road, lot 33, died Friday, May 15, 1998, at his home.

Born Dec. 7, 1930, in St. Thomas, Pa., he was the son of the late Morris and Ellen Smith Christman.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force.

Following his retirement, he dealt in antiques and enjoyed attending farm sales.

He was a member of St. James United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.

He also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in McConnellsburg, Pa., American Legion in Clear Spring, sons of Italy of Mount Union, Pa., Hanger Club of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Redmen Club of Williamsport.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Guyer Christman, whom he married Dec. 22, 1988; two stepdaughters, Crystal Butts of Mercersburg, Pa., and Betty Zeis of Greencastle, Pa.; one half-brother, Dennis A. Miller of St. Thomas, Pa.; an aunt, Anna Mary Horn of Chambersburg, who helped to raise him; and four granddaughters.

Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Joel L. Christman will officiate. Burial will be in Stenger Hill Cemetery, Fort Loudon, Pa. Military graveside services will be conducted by Fulton Honor Guard.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to St. James United Brethren Church, 2404 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Charles Leonard

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Charles Leonard, 57, of 287 Mount Cydonia Road, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, at his home.

Born Nov. 20, 1940, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Edith Naugle Leonard of Fayetteville, and the late Charles R. Leonard.

He attended Chambersburg Area High School.

Since 1994, he was employed at Roxbury Correctional Institution, Hagerstown. He was previously a supervisior at Grove International Manufacturing in Shady Grove, Pa., and at Jerr-Dan Manufacturing in Greencastle, Pa.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam War.

He was a member and past president of Berkeley County Chapter of Izaak Walton League of America Conservation Organization, American Legion Burt Jasper Post 46 in Chambersburg, and International Order of Redmen Williamsport Post 084.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Linda J. Fisher Leonard, whom he married June 23, 1968; one son, Charles R. Leonard III of Fayetteville; one brother, James Leonard of Fayetteville; one granddaughter; three nephews; one great-niece and three great-nephews.

Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Spirit of Christ Community Church, 1985 Wenger Lane, Chambersburg. The Rev. W.K. Russ Lee and Leighton Smith, elder, will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawn Cemetery in Chambersburg, with military graveside services conducted by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Richard C. Allamong

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Richard C. Allamong, 62, of 15134 N. Young Road, died Friday, May 15, 1998, at Western Maryland Hospital Center, Hagerstown.

Born July 22, 1935, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Forest C. and Emily O. Parker Allamong.

He retired from Corning Glass Works in Greencastle in 1991 after 31 years of service.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was a Lutheran.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah A. Allamong of Greencastle; three  daughters, Debra Stottlemyer of Boonsboro, Dawn Hayzlett of Greencastle and Content Allamong of Hagerstown; a son, Richard C. Allamong of Smithsburg; two stepdaughters, Shannon Rideout of State Line, Pa. and Shawn Kilgore of Waynesboro, Pa.; a sister, Darlene Shifflet of Palmyra, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; three nieces; a nephew and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richie Allamong.

Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Torben Aarsand will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Western Maryland Hospital Center, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21742.

Reba C. Fahnestock

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Reba C. Fahnestock, 88, of 1934 Edgewood Road, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at Franklin County Nursing Home, Guilford Township, Pa.

Born Oct. 30, 1909, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert C. and Amanda K. Shaffer Cramer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ned G. Fahnestock, in 1977.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Greenwood Assembly of God, Fayetteville, Pa.

She is survived by two sons, Edward E. Fahnestock of Fayetteville and Ned G. Fahnestock Jr. of Chambersburg; two brothers, Roy C. Cramer of Chambersburg and R. Robert Cramer of Long Island, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas, Pa. The Rev. Douglas Baldwin and the Rev. George S. Mouer Sr. will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Franklin County Nursing Home, 201 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

Zella M. Schnebly

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Zella Mae Schnebly, 86, of 140 Greenleaf Road, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, in Gettysburg, Pa.

Born Oct. 4, 1911, in Fannettsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Belle McGowan Wood.

She was a graduate of Fannett-Metal High School.

She was certified as a licensed nursing attendant in the state of Pennsylvania in 1934.

She retired as an inspector for National Institute Dry Cleaning, Silver Spring, Md. She also had been employed by the former Chambersburg Laundry, Chambersburg.

She was a member of Zion Reformed Church, Chambersburg.

She is survived by two  daughters, Patricia Goode and Virginia Rote, both of Chambersburg; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and six brothers.

A memorial service will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Zion Reformed Church, 259 S. Main St., Chambersburg. The Rev. Jeffrey R. Diller will officiate. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends Friday following the service in the church social hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Reformed Church, 259 S. Main St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 2325 Country Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

M. Almeda Wolf

QUINCY, Pa. - M. Almeda Misner Wolf, 87, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, formerly of 207 N. Potomac St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Monday, May 18, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born Jan. 14, 1911, in Fairview, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clayton W. and Blanche Moats Misner.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Harvey J. Wolf, in 1989.

In her early years, she was a machine operator at Waynesboro Knitting Mill.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, and a member of the Rose Circle Sunday School Class.

She is survived by two  daughters, Dorothy M. Miller and D. Evaline Cook, both of Waynesboro; one son, M. Ordean Wolfe of Waynesboro; one sister, Phyllis Flohr of Fairview; two brothers, Clarence Misner of Fayetteville, Pa., and Max Misner of Shippensburg, Pa.; four grandsons; five great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one infant sister, Anna Misner; and one brother, the Rev. Lester Misner.

Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Lynn D. Trutt and the Rev. C. Albert Guyer will officiate. Burial will be in Quincy Cemetery, Quincy.

The family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Unit, Wesley Hall, Quincy United Methodist Home, P.O. Box 128, Quincy, Pa. 17247.

John J. Bentz

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - John Joseph Bentz, 53, of 13296 Pennersville Road, died Monday, May 18, 1998, at his mother's home.

Born March 7, 1945, in Dillsburg, Pa., he was the son of Mary Cool Bentz of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., and the late Martin Bentz.

He attended Waynesboro schools.

He was employed by Arben Harbaugh Masonry and later at ISP Minerals near Blue Ridge Summit from 1981 through 1991. Most recently, he was a self-employed general contractor.

He was a former member of Cascade American Legion Post 239, Cascade; and Blue Ridge Sportsman Association.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Brenda L. Greenawalt of Waynesboro; two sons, John W. Bentz of Emmittsburg, Md., and Justin H. Bentz at home; five sisters, Mary Lou Smith of Waynesboro, Marge Headrick of Goose Creek, S.C., Cathy Foster of Summerville, S.C., Susan Wade of Waynesboro, Marcy Mobley of North Charleston, S.C.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his  Father, a brother, Lester Bentz, preceded him in death in 1981.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rita's Roman Catholic Church, Blue Ridge Summit. The Rev. Anthony Attumaly will be celebrant.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Margaret M. Fry

SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Margaret M. Currens Fry, 84, a resident of Michaux Manor Living Center, South Mountain, formerly of 11455 Pine Hill Drive, Country Club Estate, Waynesboro, Pa., died Tuesday, May 19, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Aug. 5, 1913, in Rouzerville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert Paxton and Mae Martin Currens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Glenn Fry, in 1993.

She was a 1932 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

She worked with her late husband at his insurance company in Waynesboro. Before that she was employed at K.G. Potter Insurance Agency.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro.

She is survived by one daughter, Glenda F. Smith of Waynesboro; one son, Robert M. Fry of Waynesboro; one sister, Helen Smith of Waynesboro; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Harbaugh Church Cemetery near Rouzerville. The Rev. Jay E. Zimmerman will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, in care of Joan Goetz, 219 W. Second St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
