Gladys M. Bigelow
BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Gladys M. Bigelow, 84, of 15069 Charmian Road, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Dec. 27, 1913, in Edgemont, Md., she was the daughter of the late Herman and Nellie Martin Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Bigelow, in 1986. They were married Feb. 15, 1930.
She was a member of National AARP.
She is survived by her stepmother, Mary Bowman Miller of Hagerstown; two sons, Paul L. Bigelow of Blue Ridge Summit and Dennis H. Bigelow of Mercersburg, Pa.; two sisters, Lillian Pryor of Smithsburg and Pauline Lowe of Fairfield, Pa.; two half sisters, Cathline DeWeese of Smithsburg and Rosalie Forrest of Waynesboro, Pa.; a brother, H. Fred Miller of Smithsburg; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister; an infant brother; and a half brother, Richard Miller.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. James C. House will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery, Ringgold, Md.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Margaret C. Caufman
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Margaret C. Caufman, 92, of 3355 Spring View Drive, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Menno-Haven, Chambersburg.
Born April 1, 1906, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Bertha McKenzie Helman.
She retired from Franklin County Nursing Home, Chambersburg. Previously, she had been employed by Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.
She was a member of Old Order German Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty H. Gipe of Chambersburg; one sister, Mary Slouthour of Marion, Pa.; four stepbrothers, Abram Benedict and Paul Benedict, both of Chambersburg, Joseph Benedict of Fayetteville, Pa. and Harry Benedict of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Ezra Benedict; two sisters; two brothers; one stepsister; and three stepbrothers.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Falling Spring Old Order German Baptist Meeting House. The Home Brethren of the Falling Spring Meeting House will officiate. Burial will be in Brown's Mill Cemetery, Kauffman, Pa.
A private family service will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the home of Raymond and Betty Gipe, 3355 Spring View Drive, Chambersburg.
The viewing will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gipe home, 3355 Spring View Drive, Chambersburg.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Wayne M. Helman
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Wayne Melvin Helman, 70, of 685 Lee Drive, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 27, 1927, in Shady Grove, Pa., he was the son of the late Roy R. and Mildred Fahrney Helman.
He served with the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson, S.C., from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War.
He was employed as a welder and worked in the wire department at Grove Worldwide, Shady Grove, retiring in April 1994 after 30 years of service.
He attended Calvary Bible Church of Greencastle.
He is survived by his wife, L. Irene Shank Helman, whom he married Dec. 9, 1955; four daughters, Rose M. Clites of Greencastle, Verdell L. Hanzlik of Gettysburg, Pa., Mildred I. Sheeder of Greencastle, and Vesta J. Helman of Fairfield, Pa.; a son, Carl W. Helman of Chambersburg, Pa.; two sisters, Dorothy J. Beltz of Chambersburg and Fay Ulrich of Chambersburg; a brother, Wilbur "Web" Helman of Mercersburg, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Calvary Bible Church, 3845 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle. The Rev. Glen A. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle; and Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the church.
Mabel E. Stouffer
QUINCY, Pa. - Mabel E. Stouffer, 84, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home and formerly of Michaux Manor Living Center, Fayetteville, Pa.; and 104 S. Allison St., Greencastle, Pa., died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Aug. 26, 1913, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jessie and Lulu Mae Foust Beeler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Stouffer, in 1988.
Earlier, she worked at the former Stanley Co., Chambersburg; Chris Miller Orchards; Milton Wright Home; and most recently, at the former Better Foods Store of Greencastle.
She was a member of Hades Church of the Brethren, near Waynesboro, Pa., and was a member of Ladies Aid.
She was a member of National AARP.
She is survived by two daughters, June M. Barvinchack of Greencastle and Darlene J. Stouffer of Michaux Manor, Fayetteville, Pa.; three sons, J. Eugene Stouffer of Waynesboro, Merle R. Stouffer of Greencastle and Clarence D. Stouffer of Dallas Center, Iowa; one brother, Lloyd E. Beeler of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson; a stepgreat-grandson; one sister; and two brothers.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Hades Church of the Brethren, Hades Church Road, Waynesboro. Elders Dean Gearhart, George Martin and Don Clapper will officiate. Burial will be in Browns Mill Cemetery, Kauffman, Pa.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle; and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Doris V. Talhelm
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Doris Vivian Bemiller Talhelm, 77, of 25 E. Baltimore St., died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa., from injuries sustained in an auto accident at U.S. 11 and Walters Avenue, Greencastle.
Born Jan. 17, 1921, in Hanover, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Oscar Roy and Edith Edna Atland Bemiller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Talhelm, in 1981. They were married May 23, 1936, in Winchester, Va.
She attended Hanover schools.
She was employed as a nursing assistant at South Mountain Restoration Center, South Mountain, Pa., retiring in 1983 with 12 years of service. Prior to that she was a homemaker.
She attended Salem Ridge Mennonite Church of Greencastle.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara J. Harsh of Greencastle and Jill S. Noll of Columbia, S.C.; five sons, Harold E. Talhelm Jr., John R. Talhelm and Gregory M. Talhelm, all of Chambersburg, Pa., Franklin W. Talhelm of Mercersburg, Pa., and Gerald E. Talhelm of Greencastle; two sisters, Geraldine E. Flahart of Wilmington, Del., and Edith J. Miller of Lancaster, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one stepgrandson; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marian L. Talhelm, in 1990; and two sisters, Billie M. Knouse and Mary Helen Gordon.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Salem Ridge Mennonite Church, 441 Pensinger Road, Greencastle. Pastor G. Joseph Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle; and Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Jason E. Dillow, 23, of 3425 Gregway Drive, died Friday, April 10, 1998, at his home.
Born Jan. 5, 1975, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Paul D. Dillow of Inwood, W.Va., and Sherry L. Lawson Fields of Chambersburg.
He worked as a mechanic for Pepsi Cola Co., Williamsport.
He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Chambersburg.
He is survived by his son, Colin A. Dillow of Chambersburg; his son's mother, Chandra L. Pecovsky of Chambersburg; his stepfather, John B. Fields Jr. of Chambersburg; maternal grandparents, Dennis and Celia Lawson of Chambersburg; paternal grandmother, Josie Dillow of Ranson, W.Va.; paternal stepgrandfather, John B. Fields Sr. of Chambersburg; paternal stepgrandmother, Vonnie Fields of Chambersburg; paternal stepgreat-grandmother, Anna Rock of Chambersburg; two sisters; and three brothers.
Services and burial will be private. Burial will be in Grindstone Hill Cemetery, Chambersburg.
The viewing will be private.

Merle L. Davis
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Merle L. Davis, 70, a resident of Franklin County Nursing Home in Chambersburg, Pa., and of 9913 Letzburg Road in Greencastle, died Monday, April 13, 1998, in Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Oct. 29, 1927, in the Marsh Area, Washington Township, Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Harvey Leonard and Eva G. Adams Davis.
He was employed by Altenwald Elevators in Chambersburg, John Anderson Dairy Farm in Mercersburg, Pa., and Grove Manufacturing in Shady Grove, Pa. Prior to retiring he was a custodian for Tuscorora School District.
He did auto mechanics work from his home part time.
He attended Montgomery Brethren in Christ Church in Mercersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Myers Laughlin Davis, whom he married in 1953; three daughters, Linda D. Shelleman of Falling Waters, W.Va., Patricia A. Clever of Greencastle, and Sandra J. Stine of Waynesboro, Pa.; four sons, Robert E. Laughlin Sr. and Kenneth L. Laughlin, both of Greencastle, Paul L. Davis and M. David Davis, both of Chambersburg; one sister, Leona Murray of Greencastle; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three nieces; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah K. Davis; and one son, Richard A. Davis.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the Mongomery Brethren in Christ Church, 6727 Montgomery Church Road, Mercersburg. The Rev. Curtis E. Bryant will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

M. Emmert Hoover
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - M. Emmert Hoover, 93, of 159 Ash Spring Court, died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Feb. 12, 1905, in Ringgold, he was the son of the late Abram D. and Katie Motz Hoover.
He worked on farms in the Ringgold, Smithsburg and Chambersburg, Pa., areas. He then worked at Frick Co. in Waynesboro for 20 years, as a mechanic for the former O.C. Hawbaker Garage and Farm Machinery, Waynesboro, and as a distributor for Charles Chips. He was last employed by the Borough of Waynesboro in the maintenance department.
He was a member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro; and a former member of the former Evangelical United Brethren Church, where he was Sunday school superintendent, and a member of the Crider's Men Sunday School Class.
He also was a member of Waynesboro Lodge 219 IOOF, a life member of ATH&L Fire Co. No. 1 in Waynesboro, and Cumberland Valley Firemen's Association; a charter member of South Chapter 2977 AARP in Waynesboro; and a member of national AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca F. Naugle Hoover, whom he married June 26, 1937; one son, Ronald E. Hoover of Waynesboro; two sisters, Anna Barncord of Waynesboro, and Margaret Rosenberger of Franklintown, Pa.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Hoover and Willis Hoover; a half-brother, John Hoover; and three half-sisters, Bertha Brown, Margie Bowman and Mary Robertson.
Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Michael V. Newman and Pastor K. Allan Mummert will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery, Ringgold.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
