Charles W. Flory Sr.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Charles W. Flory Sr., 65, of 3581 New Franklin Road, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Nov. 20, 1932, in Shippensburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles W. and Virgie Adams Flory.

Mr. Flory was a custodian at Duffield Elementary School in the Chambersburg Area School District for 21 years. Before that he worked for Nitterhouse Concrete in Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel V. Musselman Piper, four  daughters, Betty Johns and Ruth A. Kennedy, both of Greencastle, Pa., and Barbara Boyd and Elizabeth D'Orsi, both of Chambersburg; a son, Charles W. Flory of St. Thomas, Pa.; three stepdaughters, Melissa V. Brunner and Christine A. Carbaugh, both of Chambersburg, and Melinda S. Farace of Westminster, Md.; three stepsons, Ralph E. Piper and Jeffrey R. Piper, both of Chambersburg, and Paul T. Piper of Roxbury, Pa.; four sisters, Lois Shenk and Marguerite Flory of Shippensburg, Pa., Mildred Wyrick of Walnut Bottom, Pa., and Charlotte Fisher of Chambersburg; a brother, Elmer Flory of Shippensburg; 23 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ellen Flory, in 1991; a sister; and a brother.

Services will be Friday at 8 p.m. at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. George R. Pogue Sr. will officiate. Burial will be private.

The family will receive visitors Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home.

Jack C. Sharpe

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Jack Clyde Sharpe, 65, of RD 1, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg.

Born Feb. 6, 1933, in Harrisonville, Pa., he was the son of the late Claude and Beatrice Bishop Sharpe.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Korean War.

He was a retired McConnellsburg IGA grocery store manager.

He attended Knobsville United Methodist Church in Knobsville, Pa.

He was a member of Mt. Zion Lodge 774, Harrisburg Consistory, McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co. and American Legion Post 561 of McConnellsburg.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Reeder Sharpe, whom he married Oct. 24, 1953; one daughter, Barbara Fignar of Fort Loudon, Pa.; two sons, Edward Sharpe of McConnellsburg and Joseph Sharpe of Wells Tannery, Pa.; one sister, June Glenn of McConnellsburg; and his step-mother, Marie Sharpe of Harrisonville, Pa.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Knobsville United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Arnold and the Rev. Edward Sharpe will officiate. Burial will be in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery in Harrisonville.

Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home in Harrisonville.

Mary A. Morrill

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mary Alice "Sue" Morrill, 63, of 217 Linden Ave., died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at her home.

Born Jan. 29, 1935, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Walter E. and Ethel P. Truett Holtry.

She had worked as a waitress for the former McCrory's in Chambersburg.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She is survived by a daughter, Julie D. Morrill of Chambersburg; a son, Edwin T. Morrill of Chambersburg; and a grandson, Talon Morrill of Chambersburg.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Bishop Bobby H. Fike will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The viewing will be Monday one hour prior to the service.

Jonathan A. Flohr

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Jonathan Arthur "Dynamite" Flohr, 92, a resident of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of 216 W. Fourth St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born July 25, 1905, near Zullinger, Pa., he was the son of the late Daniel S. and Mary Susan Bare Flohr.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lena Mae Wingert Flohr, in 1952. They were married Jan. 1, 1933.

In his early years, he was employed on a farm in Franklin County. He later worked at Stone Quarry in Greencastle, Pa., and then at Frick Co., Waynesboro. Prior to retiring in 1970, he was a forklift operator at Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro.

He was a life member of Mechanics Steam Fire Engine and Hose Co. 1, Waynesboro; and a life member of Order of the Owls Nest 1073, Waynesboro, where he was the oldest member.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. Grove Flohr, whom he married Dec. 31, 1955; a daughter, Kathryn M. Bennett of Waynesboro, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Mildred Swartz of Baltimore; a sister, Daisy Knepper of Chambersburg; two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Judy Bennett, in 1968; and four sisters, Helen Wisler, Olive Eigenbrode, Isabelle Flohr and Ada Elizabeth Flohr.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Stuart Troutman will officiate. Burial will be in Price's Church Cemetery, Washington Township, near Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Franklin County Nursing Home, 201 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Gordon W. Babcock

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Gordon William Babcock, 75, of 215-C Elder Ave., died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Franklin County Nursing Home, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Dec. 18, 1922, in Nyack, N.Y., he was the son of the late Henry William and Lillian Wilhelmina Hess Babcock. He moved to Waynesboro in 1988.

He was a graduate of Tottenville High School, Staten Island, N.Y.

He was employed for 15 years by Rocklan National Bank as an assistant vice president. He was last employed by Peter Brega Inc. in Valley College, N.Y., where he was manager of a bus company for 20 years.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Nyack, and Spring Valley, N.Y., Quanious Club.

He is survived by two  daughters, Kristen Coursen of Grove City, Pa., and Kimberly Babcock of Lehighten, Pa.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nyack.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro.

Clair R. Fix

FORT LITTLETON, Pa. - Clair Raymond Fix, 68, of Fort Littleton, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born June 20, 1929, in McConnellsburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank L. and Muta Parks Fix.

He worked for Fairchild Aircraft and was a retired truck driver for H.J. Culler Inc.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a Protestant.

He was a life member of VFW Post 655, McConnellsburg; and Harry Lackhove American Legion Post 517, Mercersburg, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Cherie Chamberlain Fix, whom he married March 21, 1953; a daughter, Dian L. Fix of Pine Grove Mills, Pa.; six sisters, Helen Layton, Lois Linke, Maxine Bard, Arlene Umbrell and Carlys Slater, all of McConnellsburg, and Marie DeRhodes of Wooster, Ohio; and three brothers, Harold L. Fix of McConnellsburg, Blaine Fix of Harrisonville, Pa. and Phillip Fix of Hustontown, Pa.

He was preceded in death by a son, Victor Clair Fix; a sister, Phyllis Kerlin; and a brother, Earl Fix.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville. The Rev. David Reams will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joan T. Lattanzio

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Joan T. Lattanzio, 68, of Warfordsburg, formerly of Runnemede, N.J., died Friday, April 10, 1998, at her home.

Born Aug. 10, 1929, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late John and Annabelle Cain Callahan.

She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Hancock.

She was a member of Warfordsburg Senior Citizens Club, Warfordsburg.

She is survived by her husband, Eustace J. "Gus" Lattanzio of Warfordsburg, whom she married Nov. 24, 1949; two  daughters, Joan Romano of Blenheim, N.J., and Susan Kearney of Runnemede, N.J.; four sons, Michael Lattanzio of Allison Park, Pa., Stephen Lattanzio of Somerdale, N.J., Ronald Lattanzio of Camden, N.J., and Mark Lattanzio of Charleston, S.C.; three brothers, John Callahan of Margate, N.J., Gerald Callahan of Cinnaminson, N.J., and Thomas Callahan of May's Landing, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Angela Kearney and Mary Cain; and two brothers, Peter Callahan and Ronald Callahan.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, High Street, Hancock. The Rev. George W. Glick will be celebrant. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. The funeral home will be open Monday from 1 to 8:30 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church, E. High St., Hancock, Md. 21750.

Mary C. Swisher

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Mary Catherine Swisher, 83, formerly of 4902 Charlestown Road, died Friday, April 10, 1998, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown.

Born Jan. 15, 1915, near Mercersburg, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Minerva Walker Mellott.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Brady V. Swisher, in 1980.

She was a former employee of Fairchild Industries of Hagerstown and Mercersburg Sewing Factory.

She had attended Clayton Memorial Church of God, Mercersburg.

She is survived by two  daughters, Mary Jane Hollenshead and Barbara Swope, both of Mercersburg; a son, Robert Swisher of Mercersburg; two sisters, Ethel McLaughlin and Helen Armstrong, both of Mercersburg; a brother, Harvey Mellott of Hagerstown; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, William E. Swisher.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Floyd E. Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

The viewing will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ellen M. Starliper

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ellen M. Starliper, 85, a resident of ManorCare Health Services; formerly of 11 Cambridge Lane, Chambersburg, the home of her granddaughter, Kim Bupp; and Greencastle, Pa.; died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born Feb. 8, 1913, in Williamson, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Anna Christman Barnes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Starliper, in 1969.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Antrim Assembly of God Church of Greencastle.

She is survived by two  daughters, Betty Elliott of Greencastle and Anna Suders of Marion, Pa.; one sister, Rachael Gelsinger of Chambersburg; one brother, Harvey Barnes of Shippensburg, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Bupp in 1961; two sons, Glenn W. Starliper in 1989 and Raymond S. "Buddy" Starliper in 1991; two sisters; and one brother.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Alvin Goetz and the Rev. Ken Wenger will officiate. Burial will be in Browns Mill Cemetery, Kauffman, Pa.

The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
