Charles B. Christman

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Charles B. Christman, 96, of 2722 Warm Spring Road, died Monday, March 30, 1998, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg.

Born Sept. 23, 1901, in Hamilton Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Lewis and Ella L. Deck Christman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen L. Holtry Christman, in 1975.

He retired in 1971 after 24 years as a road foreman at PennDOT.

He attended St. James United Brethren Church, Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg.

He was elected to two six-year terms as Hamilton Township supervisor.

He is survived by three  daughters, Mary E. Christman, Carrie E. Arrowood and Mildred L. Wallech, all of Chambersburg; one son, Merle J. Christman of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister; a half sister; and two half brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Joel L. Christman and the Rev. Richard D. Stoey will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas, Pa.

Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. James United Brethren Church, 2404 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Dorothy R. Heisey

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Dorothy Rengier Heisey, 89, a resident of Penn Hall Nursing Center, formerly of Shippensburg, Pa., died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at the nursing center.

Born March 16, 1909, in Lawn, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Carl and Alice Rengier. She was the stepdaughter of the late Amos Brubaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfield Scott Heisey, in 1979.

She was a graduate of Millersville University, Millersville, Pa.

She was a fifth-grade school teacher in Palmyra, Pa. She was employed as an elementary school music teacher in the Maytown, Pa., area.

She was a member of Donegal Presbyterian Church near Mount Joy, Pa. She also attended Shippensburg Presbyterian Church, Shippensburg, Pa., and was a member of the choir.

A professional and volunteer Girl Scout, she was awarded her 50-year pin from Penn Laurel Girl Scout Council. She was a volunteer for nine years with Elder Day at Menno Haven, Chambersburg.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

A private memorial service will be held at her home, Conococheague. The Revs. William H. Harter and John C. Berstecher will officiate. Friends may contact Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, at 1-717-264-6416 for more information.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cumberland Valley School of Music, 1015 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or Penn Laurel Girl Scout Council, 1600 Mount Zion Road, P.O. Box 20159, York, Pa. 17402.

Destiny M. Robertson

FORT LOUDON, Pa. - Destiny Mae Robertson, 2 months, of 8926 Path Valley Road, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at her home.

Born Feb. 1, 1998, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Matthew P. Robertson and Lacey F. Harr, both of Fort Loudon.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandparents, Randy G. and Camille Harr of Fort Loudon; maternal great-grandparents, Perry and Ora Free of Chambersburg; maternal great-grandmother, Betty Harr of Greencastle, Pa.; paternal grandparents, the Rev. Stephen R. and Patricia G. Robertson of Fort Loudon; and paternal great-grandparents, Mike and Helen Tate of Chambersburg.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ of Fort Loudon. The Revs. Barron P. Barley and George E. Robertson will officiate. Burial will be in Stenger Hill Cemetery, Fort Loudon.

The viewing will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Raymond O. Butts

ZULLINGER, Pa. - Services for Raymond O. Butts, 80, of Mountain View Trailer Court, who died Monday, March 30, 1998, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery, Ringgold, Md.

The family will receive friends Friday two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Catharine M. Stover

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Catharine M. Hess Stover, 86, of 244 N. Grant St., died of a heart attack Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Nov. 20, 1911, near Wayne Heights in Washington Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Elsie M. Gardenhour Hess.

In her early years, she was employed at Waynesboro Knitting Co.; and Dreyfuss Men's Store, both of Waynesboro.

She was a member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, and served as a deaconess since 1948; was active in Undershepherd Program; Women's Fellowship; and was a former Sunday school teacher.

She was a member of Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary; North Chapter 739 AARP; and national AARP. She was active with the Meals on Wheels program in Waynesboro.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn G. Stover, whom she married June 2, 1934; two  daughters, Joyce A. Jordan of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Nancy S. Neff of Lancaster, Pa.; six sisters, Aileen R. Stine and Winona Wishard, both of Waynesboro, Marie T. Chartrand and Jean L. Spitzer, both of Alexandria, Va., Leah Belle Hoover of Mont Alto, Pa., and Dorothy M. Bonebrake of Abbottstown, Pa.; one brother, Melvin R. Hess of Chambersburg, Pa.; four grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Pearl McKenzie; and one brother, Austin Hess.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Waynesboro Church of the Brethren. Pastor Brent K. Driver will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, 117 S. Church St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Vada A. Keller

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Vada A. Elliott Keller, 87, a guest of Shook Nursing Home; and formerly of 219 N. Allison St., Greencastle, Pa., died Thursday, April 2, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born May 2, 1910, in Greencastle, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Annie Snider Elliott.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray G. Keller, in 1997. They were married Nov. 22, 1929.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Greencastle, and served on Grace Snyder Guild.

She was a member of AARP North Chapter 739, Waynesboro.

She is survived by two  daughters, Pearl E. Stockslager of Greencastle and Linda K. Valentine of Waynesboro, Pa.; one son, Henry R. Keller of Chambersburg; one sister, Janet V. Johnson of Greencastle; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Lyman Elliott, in 1990.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle. The Rev. Donald L. McBride will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Helen M. Brindle

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Helen M. Brindle, 76, a resident of Caledonia Manor, and formerly of 179 S. Fourth St., Chambersburg, Pa., died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at Caledonia Manor.

Born July 22, 1921, in Greene Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John Wilton and Emma Jean Reber Mull.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Russell Brindle, in 1961.

She had retired from the Holiday Inn, Chambersburg. She previously had worked at the former Blue Ridge Woolen Mill, Chambersburg; Knouse Foods of Chambersburg; and the former Freeman Shoe Co. of Waynesboro, Pa.

She had been a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Chambersburg.

She is survived by two sons, Kermit R. Brindle of Tuscon, Ariz., and Arthur L. Brindle of Chambersburg; one brother, David Mull of Scotland, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sisters and brothers.

A service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Henry Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Anna M. Gouker

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Anna M. Bradley Gouker, 68, a resident of ManorCare Nursing Home, and formerly of Trinity House, 25 N. Potomac St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Dec. 14, 1929, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late William and Katie Tobery Bradley.

She attended Hagerstown schools.

She was employed at Regency Thermographers, Waynesboro, for 16 years.

She is survived by two  daughters, Carla A. Ottaway and Laura B. Hutzell, both of Waynesboro; a son, Wayne C. Gouker of Lebanon, Pa.; a sister, Doris Bradley of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a brother, Ralph Bradley of Hancock, Md.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Roger K. Myers will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

David M. Welty Jr.

QUINCY, Pa. - David M. Welty Jr., 87, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 13820 Welty Road, Waynesboro, Pa., died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born July 20, 1910, near Welty's Mill in Washington Township, Pa., he was the son of the late David M. and Bessie Crum Welty Jr.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice A. Pryor Welty, in 1969. They were married in September 1933. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Lois I. Muth Justus Welty, in 1986. They were married April 1972.

He graduated from Smithsburg High School and attended the University of Maryland.

Early in his life, he was employed at Waynesboro Shoe Factory. He then worked in the production department at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro, for 35 years, retiring in 1974.

He was a member of Waynesboro Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and on other councils in the church.

He is survived by one daughter, Patricia W. Topper of Vienna, Va.; one sister, Frances W. Levick of Waynesboro, Pa.; one brother, Benjamin F. Welty of Waynesboro; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five nieces.

He was preceded in death by one sister, S. Louise Welty; and one brother, Robert D. Welty.

Services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Charles B. Jessen will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Waynesboro Presbyterian Church, 105 E. Main St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.
