R. Gene Stoner

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - R. Gene Stoner, 55, of 8145 Oellig Road, died Monday, March 16, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 22, 1942, in Mercersburg, he was the son of Carrie Rosenberry Stoner of Mercersburg and the late J. Wilbur Stoner.

He was a 1960 graduate of James Buchanan High School.

He was a dairy farmer. He was a partner in Stoner's Hijos Hill, Inc. of Mercersburg, and operated a produce stand near Mercersburg.

He was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church of Upton, Pa.

He was chairman of Peters Township Planning Commission. He was a member of MMPW Firemen's Relief Association; and Cumberland Valley Antique Tractor Association.

He was a member of the former American Stabilization Conservation Service, now the Farm Service Agency, and was chairman for nine years; Pennsylvania Farm Bureau; Franklin County Farm Land Preservation Board and Pennsylvania Farm Bureau Advisory Board. In 1976 he was presented a Master Farmer Award by Pennsylvania Farmer Magazine.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Elener "Nell" Anderson Stoner, whom he married on April 20, 1962; one daughter, Roxanne Jean Stoner of Salisbury, N.C.; two sons, Darren Gene Stoner and Steven Ronald Stoner, both of Mercersburg; one sister, Patricia Dent of Chambersburg, Pa.; six brothers, William A. Stoner and Herbert L. Stoner, both of St. Thomas, Pa., John R. Stoner, Robert H. Stoner and David D. Stoner, all of Mercersburg and Jay W. Stoner of Chambersburg; four grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Mercersburg Academy Chapel. The Rev. Alan R. Wilson, the Rev. W. David Kent and the Rev. Harold E. Yeager will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

Friends may call today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg; and Thursday one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, Franklin County Unit, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Jean C. Nisley

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Jean Carl Nisley, 83, of 50 Orchard Circle, died Monday, March 16, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 3, 1915, in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, he was the son of the late Frederick Albert and Mary Eleanore Daugherty Nisley.

He was a graduate of Middletown (Pa.) High School; and received his bachelor of science degree in economics from Penn State University, State College, Pa. in 1952.

He was a retired owner and operator of Kelly Tire Sales in Martinsburg, W.Va.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He had previously served in the Army from 1934 to 1937 in the Philippine Islands.

He worked as a civilian employee with the U.S. Forces in the Office of Military Government for Germany from 1945 to 1949.

He was a post member of Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319 of Greencastle; post member of Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post 373 of Greencastle; member of Mount Pisgah Masonic Lodge 443, F & AM of Greencastle; and a member of Ancient Scottish Rite of Harrisburg, Pa.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ursula E. Geiger Nisley; two  daughters, Janessa C. Nisley Carlisle of Hudson, N.Y., and Rebecca G. Nisley Dangman of Avon, Conn.; one son, John J. Nisley of Atlanta, Ga.; and one grandson.

He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at a later date in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Arthur D. Mitchell

ELLENTON, Fla. - Arthur D. Mitchell, 83, of Ellenton, died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, in Ellenton.

Born in Waynesboro, Pa., on Sept. 11, 1914, he was the son of the late Thadieus E. Mitchell and Maxizora Gilbert.

He was employed by Fairchild and retired from Mack Trucks.

He is survived by his wife, Mae C. Mitchell; two  daughters, Delores J. Davy of Cumberland, Md., and Mary Ann Faulders of Smithsburg; one stepson, Wilbur Ensminger of St. Augustine, Fla.; one sister, Rachel Green; four brothers, Warren Mitchell, Charles Mitchell, Robert Mitchell and Edward Mitchell; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown. Bill Divelbliss will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the John Marsh Cancer Research Center.

June R. Wible

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - June Rose Wible, 66, a resident of Manor Care Health Services; and formerly of Needmore, Pa., died Monday, March 16, 1998, at Manor Care Health Services.

Born June 24, 1931, in Knobsville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Russell and Furmur Helfrick Wible.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Beulah Wible, with whom she resided; and three sisters, Mrs. Harold Wheeler of Miami, Aline Shatzer of Waynesboro, Pa., and Mrs. Norman Miller of Chambersburg.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter Wible, Harvey Wible and Ross Wible.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. Christian Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Knobsville Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home; and Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Andrew E. Wagaman

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Andrew E. "Andy" Wagaman, 79, of 12039 East Ave., died Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Aug. 24, 1918, in Guilford Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Carbaugh Wagaman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hope C. Shindle Wagaman, in 1991. They were married July 27, 1990.

He attended Quincy schools.

He was self-employed as a handy man. Earlier, he drove a truck for A.R. Warner Construction, then Lanehart Construction, Greencastle, Pa., and farmed.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by one son, Andrew L. Wagaman of Fort Littleton, Pa.; four stepsons, John H. Myers Jr. of Delray Beach, Fla., R. Larry Myers and Harry S. "Chip" Myers, both of Greencastle, and Donald E. Myers of Rouzerville, Pa.; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; two step granddaughters; three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Freeman of Waynesboro; and three brothers, David Wagaman and Paul Wagaman, both of Waynesboro, and Bennett Wagaman of Upton, Pa.

He was preceded in death by three infant sons; two sisters; and seven brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Burial will be in Price's Church Cemetery, Washington Township, near Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

June E. Foust

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - June E. Foust, 74, of Penn Hall Nursing Center; and formerly of Rustic Hill Drive, died Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at Penn Hall Nursing Center.

Born June 9, 1923, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Dora M. Shatzer Friese.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Foust, in 1990.

She was a press operator for the former Stanley Co., Chambersburg.

She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg, where she was a member of Buds of Promise Sunday School Class.

She is survived by two  daughters, Norma G. Diehl of Shippensburg, Pa., and Lois J. Sprenkle of Chambersburg; two sons, Larry E. Foust and Edward W. Mull, both of Chambersburg; one brother, Kenneth Friese of Fort McCord, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister; and three brothers.

Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at King Street United Brethren Church, 172 E. King St., Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester F. Stine and the Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

There will be no public viewing.

The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

Ira A. Summers Jr.

MARION, Pa. - Ira A. "Butch" Summers Jr., 81, of 5317 S. Main St., died Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Nov. 1, 1916, in Marion, he was the son of the late Ira A. Sr. and Laura Wentling Summers.

He was an engineer for Pennsylvania Railroad for 36 years, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Marion.

He also was a member of Greencastle V.F.W., Greencastle American Legion, Franklin Fire Co., a 50-year member of Mount Pisgah Lodge 443 Free and Accepted Masons, and Tall Cedars of Lebanon 95 in Hagerstown. He was a life member of United Transportation Union and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 842.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rose Witherspoon Summers; two sons, C. Ronald Summers of West Newton, Mass., and Terry R. Summers of Harrisburg, Pa.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Marion. The Rev. Guy W. Camp III will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Marion First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 94 Colorado St., Marion, Pa. 17235.

Arrangements are by Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home in Chambersburg.

Leroy M. Bussard

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Leroy M. Bussard, 62, of Williamsport Pike, died Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 28, 1935, in Keedysville, he was the son of the late Joseph Franklin and Beaulah Mae Holmes Bussard.

He is survived by two  daughters, Donna Hart of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Lori Brown of Hagerstown; one son, Rodney Bussard of Falling Waters; one stepdaughter, Pamela Calandrelle of Boonsboro; one stepson, Mark Fedorka of Hagerstown; one sister, Betty Corder of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and Sandra Fedorka.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, Madeline Hardy, Genieve Jones, Louise Abbott, Nellie Young and Mildred Myers; and one brother, Franklin Bussard.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg. The Rev. Richard Mose will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Williamsport Ambulance Service, 30 W. Salisbury St., Williamsport, Md. 21795.

Elizabeth L. Huff

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Elizabeth L. Huff, 76, of 773 Meadowbrook Lane, died Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg.

Born March 11, 1922, in Asbury Park, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Cora Nelson Ferguson.

She was a homemaker.

She attended St. Paul United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.

She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Chambersburg.

She is survived by her husband, Ted E. Huff; three  daughters, Doreen Disbrow of Beechwood, N.J., Joyce Zakrzewski of Bricktown, N.J., and Sherie Gimble of Big Pine Key, Fla.; one son, Robert Macknowski of Hawaii; four stepdaughters, Carol Poulsen of Sayreville, N.Y., Marijane Rios of South Amboy, N.J., Kathleen Huff of Bellview, Fla., and Sandra Jensen of South Amboy; one stepson, Teddy E. Huff Jr. of Largo, Fla.; one sister, Almeda Gaul of Bridgewater, N.J.; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Harold E. Posey will officiate. Burial will be private.

Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
