Paul E. Barnes
STATE LINE, Pa. - Paul E. "Tiny" Barnes, 79, of 15532 Skyline Drive, P.O. Box 432, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Sept. 30, 1918, in Lemasters, Pa., he was the son of the late Jacob and Ella McLucas Barnes.
He was a farmer and worked for 20 years at Mack Trucks, Hagerstown.
He was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, Greencastle, Pa.
He also was a member of Waynesboro Fish and Game Association.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling.
He is survived by his wife, Clara M. Walter Barnes, whom he married March 1, 1941; five daughters, Mary Ann Imes of Waynesboro, Pa., Peggy Stine of Marion, Pa., Roxann Black and Paula Saunders, both of Greencastle, and Ella Starr of State Line; five sons, Ronald E. Barnes of Waynesboro, James E. Barnes, P. Jeffrey Barnes and Lee R. Barnes, all of Greencastle, and Donald G. Barnes of State Line, Pa.; five sisters, Nora Oberholzer, Evelyn Grosh, Betty Bitner and Janet Seylar, all of Greencastle, and Lois Oberholzer of Delaware; 23 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one great-granddaughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 385 S. Ridge Ave., Greencastle, with the Rev. Joseph L. Stahura as celebrant. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m.
Mary M. Brackbill
QUINCY, Pa. - Mary M. Brackbill, 93, of 6596 Orphanage Road; and formerly of Chambersburg, Pa., died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy.
Born Oct. 9, 1904, in Orrstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late C.A. and Anna Upperman Rebok.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth D. Brackbill, in 1965.
She was a 1923 graduate of Chambersburg High School.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Chambersburg, and of Willing Workers Sunday School Class.
She was a member of Chambersburg Auxiliary; and National AARP.
She is survived by one daughter, Annalou Oliver of Chambersburg; one son, W. Dwight Brackbill of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, and one brother.
Private graveside services will be held at Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg. The Rev. William M. Brown will officiate.
There will be no public viewing.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Ruth L. Forbes
ORRSTOWN, Pa. - Ruth L. Forbes, 68, of 10999 Mountain Road, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born June 27, 1929, in Letterkenny Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Florence Zeek Rosenberry.
She retired in 1991 from Greif Co., Shippensburg, Pa.
She attended Upper Strasburg Church of God.
She is survived by her husband, Glen W. Forbes; two sons, Daniel R. Forbes and Randy L. Forbes, both of Orrstown; three daughters, Beverly A. Myers of Upper Strasburg, Pa., Debra J. Shaw of Hagerstown and Cathy S. Bain of New Franklin, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg. The Rev. Caroline Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Greene Township, Pa.
Friends may call Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

James F. Garner
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - James F. Garner, 75, of 170 Meadow Drive, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at his home.
Born March 16, 1922, in Greencastle, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry and Irene Brinkley Garner.
He was a retired dairy farmer.
He was a social member of Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post 223, Shippensburg.
He is survived by three daughters, Judy Fortner of Fort Loudon, Pa., Nancy Garner of Indiana and Mary Jane Garner of Chambersburg, Pa.; three sons, Alvey Garner of Lurgan, Pa., James W. Garner of Fayetteville, Pa., and Ronald C. Garner of Shippensburg; three sisters, Marie North of Spring Run, Pa., Mildred Shatzer of Dillsburg, Pa., and Helen Yoder of Fayetteville; five brothers, Joseph Garner of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Charles Garner of Chambersburg, Frank Garner of Hagerstown, Robert Garner of Texas and Harry Garner; 14 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg. The Rev. Michael S. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Greene Township, Pa.
Friends may call Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Bernard L. Witmer
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Bernard L. Witmer, 61, of 12070 Carol Ave., died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at his home.
Born Aug. 3, 1936, in Antrim Township, Pa., he was the son of Thelma M. Lindsay Witmer of Greencastle and the late Franklin L. Witmer.
He was a 1955 graduate of Greencastle High School.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years; and was a member of the Army National Guard of Maryland.
He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg after 23 years of employment.
He is survived by his wife, Cleona V. Juliano Witmer, whom he married April 20, 1958; one daughter, Christine I. Kulow of Fond du Lac, Wis.; one son, Anthony B. Witmer of Greencastle; three sisters, Mary C. Tosten of Greencastle, Linda I. Keefer and Helen L. Timmons, both of Mercersburg, Pa.; four brothers, Emmert F. Witmer, Donald G. Witmer and Lawrence H. Witmer, all of Greencastle and Harold L. Witmer of British Columbia, Canada; and two granddaughters.
Graveside funeral services will be Monday, March 16, at 1 p.m. at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, 3218 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg. The Rev. Edward Heim will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg.

Mary L. Ogden
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mary L. Ogden, 92, a resident at Menno Haven and formerly of Walton, N.Y., died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Menno Haven.
Born July 21, 1905, in Hamden, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late George Henry and Myrtle Taylor Loos.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sheldon B. Ogden, in 1989. They were married Aug. 10, 1932.
She graduated from Unadilla High School, Unadilla, N.Y. She graduated in 1930 from Oneonta Normal School, now Oneonta State College.
She was a homemaker.
She taught for five years in district schools in Delaware County, N.Y.
She was a member of Christian Missionary and Alliance Church, Walton, N.Y. She had been active in the church and Sunday School of United Presbyterian Church of DeLancey, N.Y.
She was a former member of Delaware Valley Hospital Board, Walton.
She is survived by a sister, Margaret Loos Spencer of Chambersburg; one niece and three nephews.
A memorial service will be today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Menno Haven, 2075 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg. Chaplain Vernon Isner and the Rev. Nelson Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery, Walton.
There will be no viewing.

Melvin P. Reiff Jr.
NEW EAGLE, Pa. - Melvin Paul Reiff Jr., 50, of 22 Applewood Drive, died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Monongahela Valley Hospital, Monongahela, Pa.
Born Oct. 14, 1947, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Melvin P. and Esther R. Moats Reiff Sr. of Clear Spring.
He was a 1970 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Engineering.
He was employed by Eat and Park Restaurant in New Eagle.
He was of the Protestant faith.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jean Mowen Cunningham Reiff of New Eagle; two sons, Adrian E. Reiff and Jason P. Reiff, both at home; twin sisters, Saundra J. Beard and Sandra J. Rhodes, both of Hagerstown; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Stacey Lynn Reiff, in 1975.
Services will be Monday, March 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Robert E. Timmons will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Clear Spring.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Doris Z. House
HUSTONTOWN, Pa. - Doris Z. House, 61, of Hustontown, died Friday, March 13, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.
Born Feb. 16, 1937, in Maddensville, Pa., she was the daughter of Roy Wilson of Hustontown and the late Bernice Brown Wilson.
She was a homemaker. She had been employed at Sagner Inc., McConnellsburg, Pa., for more than 18 years. She and her husband had previously owned and operated House's Citgo, Hustontown, Pa., for 20 years.
She was of the Protestant faith.
In addition to her Father, she is survived by her husband, Clem "Mick" House of Hustontown; four children, Richard A. Zittle of Mercersburg, Pa., Veronica L. Scott of Chambersburg, Pa., Gary D. Zittle of Burke, Va., and Valerie L. Zittle of Hagerstown; three stepchildren, Sally R. Lofstedt of Cerritos, Calif., Robert C. House of Newburg, Pa., and Roger L. House of Breezewood, Pa.; one brother, John Wilson of Cape Coral, Fla.; four sisters, Eunice Hawbaker of McConnellsburg, Bernadine Mills and Patsy Mellott, both of Hustontown and Daphne Fraker of Fort Littleton, Pa.; seven grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, Pa. The Rev. Kenneth Cornelius will officiate. Burial will be in Hustontown Cemetery, Hustontown, Pa.
