Walter Fertig
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Walter "Kay" Fertig, 70, of 11654 Woodhaven Road, died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Dec. 31, 1927, in Mount Carmel, Pa., he was the son of the late Walter K. and Marie Edwards Fertig.
He was a 1945 graduate of Mount Carmel High School; and a 1951 graduate of Penn State College with a degree in forestry.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was employed by the Army Map Service from 1951 to 1957. He was later employed by the Central Intelligence Agency from 1957 until his retirement in 1980.
He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waynesboro.
He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 731, Waynesboro; and American Legion Post 0091 in Mount Carmel. He was an Eagle Scout.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis L. Lerch Fertig, whom he married May 17, 1952; one son, Wynn K. Fertig of Fairfax, Va.; one sister, Margaret Ann Downing of Springfield, Va.; and nieces and nephews.
Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Mildred P. Dalton
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mildred P. Dalton, 82, a resident of Menno Haven, and formerly of Mercer, Pa., and Coldbrook Avenue, Chambersburg, died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at Menno Haven.
Born May 18, 1915, in Gilmer County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Richard T. and Rosa Bennett Lynch.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale W. Dalton, in 1987.
She was a graduate of Slippery Rock College, Slippery Rock, Pa.
She was an elementary school teacher in Mercer, Pa., retiring in 1979 after 20 years.
She attended Presbyterian Church of Mercer.
She is survived by one daughter, Rebecca A. Pizor of Spartansburg, S.C.; one son, Richard L. Dalton of Chambersburg; one sister, Virginia Friedel of Florida; one brother, Richard Lynch of Delaware; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Elwood H. Leister will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
The viewing will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Esther E. Morter
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Esther E. "Tiny" Morter, 80, of 136 E. Queen St., died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Feb. 6, 1918, in Kauffman Station, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Leonard L. and Blanche E. McLucas Hornbaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross J. Morter Sr., in 1995.
She retired in 1962, after 10 years as a supervisor for the State Department of Revenue, Harrisburg, Pa.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Chambersburg, and Dorcas Circle.
She was a member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Chambersburg.
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia A. Morter of Chambersburg; one son, Ross J. Morter Jr. of Chambersburg; three sisters, Dorothy L. Geiman and Catherine L. Bricker, both of Chambersburg, and Doris J. Brown of Fayetteville, Pa.; one brother, Marvin R. Hornbaker of Fayetteville; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one sister; three brothers; and one great-grandson.
Private services will be held today in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Harold E. Posey will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
There will be no public viewing.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

R. Eugene Arthur
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - R. Eugene Arthur, 85, of 915 Summit Ave., died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Jan. 13, 1913, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Robert R. and Ethel Hoover Arthur.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret A. Riddlesberger Arthur. They were married Oct. 14, 1937.
He was a 1930 graduate of Waynesboro High School. He received a bachelor of science degree from Penn State College in 1934.
After graduating from Penn State, he was a partner in Arthur's Dairy in Waynesboro from 1934 to 1946. He was a partner and owner of Waynesboro Laundry from 1947 to 1971.
He was a member and former deacon/elder of Trinity Unity Church of Christ, Waynesboro.
He was a member and past president of Waynesboro Chamber of Commerce and Waynesboro Historical Society. He was a member of Rotary Club of Waynesboro where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and Tommy Thompson Fellow; Penn State Club; Waynesboro Country Club; Waynesboro Fish and Game Association; Franklin County Heritage; International Dry Cleaners Association; and National AARP.
He was a member and past master of Acacia Lodge 586 F&AM; member and past T.I.M. of George Washington Chapter 66 R&SM; member and past high priest of George Washington Chapter 176 R.A.M.; member and P.C. of Continental Com. 56 K.T.; and a member of Penn Priory 6 Knight York Cross of Honor; Zembo Temple AAONMS; and Waynesboro Shrine Club.
He was a director and past secretary-treasurer of Green Hill Cemetery Association; past director and president of Waynesboro Savings Association; past director and secretary of Waynesboro Hospital; Narrows Gun Club, McConnellsburg; past director of First National Bank and Trust Co.; past director and president of Waynesboro Community Chest; and past member of Penn State Mont Alto Campus Advisory Board.
He is survived by one son, Daniel W. Arthur of Waynesboro; one brother, William H. Arthur; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert E. Arthur Jr., in 1969; one sister, Charlotte Harrison; and one brother, Richard Arthur.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 30 W. North St., Waynesboro. The Rev. James T. Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

John C. Kreitz Jr.
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - John Carroll "Junie" Kreitz Jr., 72, of 14092 Blue Mountain Road, died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born April 23, 1925, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late John C. and Helen Mae Eyler Kreitz Sr.
He attended school in Cascade, Md., and St. Andrew School, Waynesboro.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He was an employee at Bitzer and Moore Inc. Amusements of Frederick, Md., and later become owner and operator, selling the business in the late 1960s.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a life member of BPO Elks Lodge 684, Frederick; a member of Order of the Owls Nest 1073; Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15; William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695; Fraternal Order of Eagles 1758, all of Waynesboro; AMVETS of Frederick; Blue Ridge Sportsmen's Club, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; and Patrol Craft Sailors Association.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Virginia Welty Kreitz; three daughters, Darlene L. Mullins of Waynesboro, Kathryn E. Sprenkle of Chambersburg and Joan C. Strother of Marietta, Ga.; one son, John C. "Rusty" Kreitz III of Delta, Pa.; two sisters, Jackie Warren of Blue Ridge Summit and Polly Totherow of California; four brothers, Robert Kreitz, Eugene Kreitz, Richard Kreitz and William Kreitz, all of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Hoffman and Dorothy Gasaway; and one brother, Carroll Kreitz.
Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Zell Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville, Pa.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles H. Gobin Jr.
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Charles Howard Gobin Jr., 73, of McConnellsburg, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 9, 1924, in Wells Tannery, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles A. and Margaret Romig Gobin.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Grissinger Gobin, in 1972.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a retired stone mason for the Department of General Services. He built furniture after his retirement.
He was a member of United Presbyterian Church, McConnellsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Campbell Gobin, whom he married Feb. 28, 1976; four children, Pamela Ott of Greencastle, Pa., Kim Engman of Vienna, Va., Charles Gobin III of Berryville, Va., and Hal Gobin of Lee's Summit, Mo.; two brothers, Victor Gobin of Harrisonville, Pa., and Fred Gobin of Chambersburg, Pa.; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Presbyterian Church, McConnellsburg. The Rev. Trent Hancock will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.
There will be no viewing.
Friends may call Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Pa., with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
Military rites will be conducted by Fulton Honor Guard.

Florence J. Miller
NEEDMORE, Pa. - Florence J. "Peg" Miller, 83, of Needmore, died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.
Born Feb. 14, 1915, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Sarah Alice Lowe Reel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy K. "Wess" Miller, in 1986.
She was of the Methodist faith.
She was a charter member of Needmore Fire Co. Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth J. Bentz and Ruby F. Barnhart, both of Needmore; two sons, Roy C. Miller of McConnellsburg and Ray E. Miller of Needmore; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles K. Miller and Roger K. Miller; two grandchildren; four sisters, Alfaretta Ward, Ruth Grove, Pearl Spade and Evelyn Coffman; and one brother, Charles Reel.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Needmore Bible Church. The Rev. Doug Poffenberger will officiate. Burial will be in Union Memorial Cemetery, Everett, Pa.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock; and Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open Saturday from noon to 9 p.m.
