Margaret Hedges
QUINCY, Pa. - Margaret Ayres Hedges, 82, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home and formerly of 11830 Village Heights Drive, Zullinger, Pa., died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born March 16, 1915, in Cornwall, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Margaret Bliss Ayers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Hedges, in 1996. They were married Dec. 24, 1934.
She was a 1932 graduate of Iowa City High School. She received her master's degree in English from the University of Iowa.
She was a homemaker; and worked with her husband on the family farm. Earlier, she taught junior high school English in Iowa City, Iowa. After moving to Hagerstown, she was the production editor for Harper and Row Publications.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Hagerstown.
She was a life member of American Association of University Women; and a member of National AARP.
She is survived by four sons, James A . Hedges of Big Cove Tannery, Pa., Alan Hedges of Zullinger, Pa., Benjamin A. Hedges of New York, N.Y., and George A. Hedges of Staten Island, N.Y.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally A. Posch in 1984; a grandson, Toby Posch in 1986; and a brother, Thomas A. Ayres in 1989.
Memorial services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa. The Rev. Fred Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City, by the George Gay Funeral Home of Iowa City.

Hartzell M. Harnish
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Hartzell M. Harnish, 60, of 105 N. Main St., died Friday, March 6, 1998, at Franklin County Nursing Home, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born May 17, 1937, near Mercersburg, she was the daughter of the late George R. and Elsie May Burhanan Frisby.
She was a former employee of Grove Worldwide of Shady Grove, Pa. She was a housekeeper and babysitter in the Mercersburg area.
She was a member of Clayton Memorial Church of God, Mercersburg.
She is survived by three sisters, Naomi F. Knapper and Wanda J. Quivers, both of Chambersburg and Gloria D. Frisby of Mercersburg; and five brothers, Melvin E. Frisby, Donald R. Frisby, Richard L. Frisby and Dennis P. Frisby, all of Mercersburg, and Douglas E. Frisby of Harrisburg, Pa.
She was preceded in death by two sisters; and one brother.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Clayton Memorial Church of God, 6701 Charlestown Road, Mercersburg. The Rev. Kelly Shope will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Union Cemetery, Mercersburg.
The viewing will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg; and Monday one hour prior to the services at the church.
Guy H. Brechbill Sr.
PORTAGE, Ind. - Guy H. Brechbill Sr., 80, of Portage, died Thursday, March 5, 1998.
Born June 8, 1917, in Peters, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles and Susan Brechbill.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.
He retired as a truck driver from Clairmont Trucking.
He was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene.
He was a member of United Teamsters Local 710; Bonner Senior Center; and AARP.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elsie Brechbill; seven children, Janet Clemons of Middletown, Ohio, Shirley Kuhn of Smithsburg, Guy Brechbill Jr. of Portage, Susan Wolford of Waynesboro, Pa., Rose Husk of Portage, James Brechbill of Salisbury, Md., and Carol McJilton of Denton, Md.; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, John Baker; one grandson, Donald Baker; three brothers, Clark Brechbill, Keller Brechbill and Ralph Brechbill; and one sister, Edna Milley.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. The Rev. Mark Hostetler will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery Mausoleum.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thelma L. Glesner
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Thelma L. "Mickey" Glesner, 80, of 13785 Lower Edgemont Road, died Friday, March 6, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Oct. 17, 1917, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Lester S. and Nettie McKinney Mickey.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl M. Bailey Sr.; her second husband, Harold S. Sharer; and her third husband, Ray E. Glesner.
She was a 1936 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
She was a domestic worker.
She is survived by one daughter, Cassandra L. Sharer of Waynesboro; one son, Earl M. "Bill" Bailey Jr. of Waynesboro; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery, Middletown, Md.

Lelia M.F. James
QUINCY, Pa. - Lelia May Friedly James, 92, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., and South Mountain, Pa., died Sunday, March 8, 1998, at the home.
Born Aug. 31, 1905, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Elva S. Shillito Friedly.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, H. Clay Cooper, in 1932; and her second husband, Boyce E. James, in 1967.
She was a 1924 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro.
She was a member of Mount Vernon Chapter 398 Order of the Eastern Star, Waynesboro.
She was the last of her immediate family. She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys F. Price; one brother, Charles Friedly; and an infant sister.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor James T. Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

Richard M. Fuss
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Richard Melvin "Rich" Fuss, 84, of 221 Hamilton Ave., died Sunday, March 8, 1998, at Piney Mountain Nursing Home, Fayetteville, Pa.
Born Nov. 5, 1913, in Greencastle, Pa., he was the son of the late Guy G. and Hattie Sheffler Fuss.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thorneta L. Woolridge Fuss, in 1982.
He was employed as a machine operator by Waynesboro Knitting Mill for more than 35 years and retired in 1978. He also was a bartender for a number of years at Mathia's Tavern in Waynesboro.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1191, Eagles Club Inc. and Order of the Owls Nest 1073, all of Waynesboro, and National AARP. He was a life member of ATH&L Co. No. 1 Fire Department, Waynesboro.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan A. Mowdy of Waynesboro and Trudy D. Belew of Smithsburg; two sons, Terry R. Fuss of Westminster, Md., and Dennis E. Fuss of Waynesboro; one brother, Lambert Fuss of Greencastle; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Joe Fuss; one brother, James C. "Pete" Fuss; and two grandsons.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor James T. Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Waynesboro.

George D. Gift
PORTSMOUTH, Va. - George Dickel Gift, 95, of 216 Charles Ave., died Friday, March 6, 1998, at Mayview Medical Center, Portsmouth.
Born March 5, 1903, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles William and Annie Margaret Dickel Gift. He lived his early life in Waynesboro.
He was employed by Norfolk and Western Railroad in Portsmouth, Ohio, and then Norfolk Naval Ship Yard in Portsmouth, Va., as a machinist in shop 31. He retired in 1969 after 30 years of service.
He was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Portsmouth, Va.
He was a member of National Association Retired Federal Employees and National AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine W. Walter Gift, whom he married on Feb. 6, 1960; one daughter, Jacque Harrell of Chesapeake, Va.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Sonny Gift; and one stepdaughter, Doris Malone.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Robert H. Karalfa will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

Kathryn S. Schaff
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Kathryn Susan Schaff, 89, a resident of Menno Haven Nursing Home, and formerly of 246 Village Square, Chambersburg, and Greencastle, Pa., died Sunday, March 8, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born April 6, 1909, in Keedysville, she was the daughter of the late D. Frank and Kathryn Downey Miller. She lived her early life in Keedysville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fred L. Schaff, in 1991.
She was a 1927 graduate of Boonsboro High School. She was a registered nurse graduate of Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore.
She was employed as a registered nurse at Union Memorial Hospital, and then worked at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. She assisted as a registered nurse with the Greencastle Bloodmobile for many years.
She was a member of Greencastle Presbyterian Church, Greencastle.
She was the last member of her immediate family. She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The Rev. Rawley D. Boone will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
The omission of flowers are requested.
