Robert K. Crook
LEMASTERS, Pa. - Robert K. Crook, 56, of 4937 Steele Ave., died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at his home.
Born May 30, 1941, in Gastonia, N.C., he was the son of the Mabel Conner Crook of Gastonia and the late William Crook.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley J. Poe Crook, in 1992.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served for 12 years with two tours in Vietnam.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Ira L. Crook of Chambersburg, Pa., and Max Q. Crook of Greencastle, Pa.; and two granddaughters.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas, Pa.
Arrangements are by Miller-Grove Funeral Home, Greencastle.
Kenneth E. Diffenderfer
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Kenneth E. Diffenderfer, 58, of 6181 Charlestown Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at his home.
Born July 13, 1939, in Mercersburg, he was the son of Elsie Diffenderfer Sword of Mercersburg and stepson of the late Roy F. Sword.
He formerly was employed by H.J. Heinz of Chambersburg, Pa., and Kimbob Construction Co., Harrisburg, Pa.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Karen Keefer of South Mountain, Pa.; one sister, Shirley Eutzy of Mercersburg; two brothers, Harold L. Sword of St. Thomas, Pa., and Cheryl D. Sword of Fort Loudon, Pa.; one granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Clayton Memorial Church of God, Charlestown Road, Mercersburg. The Rev. Kelly Shope will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Lemasters, Pa.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg.
Clyde A. Barnes
SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Clyde A. Barnes, 90, of Coral Ridge Road, and Piney Mountain Continuing Care Retirement Community, Fayetteville, Pa., died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.
Born May 8, 1907, in South Mountain, he was the son of the late William and Ellen Naugle Barnes.
Early in his life, he was employed as a carpenter and mason and worked on construction of buildings at South Mountain Restoration Center in the 1930s.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by three daughters, Della E. Kipiel of Fayetteville, Eva D. Wagaman of South Mountain; and Verna Y. Sloat of Biglerville; one son, Donald A. Barnes of South Mountain; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Mae V. Baker; one son, Harold W. Barnes; one granddaughter, Melissa Kipiel; five sisters, Rosetta Kepner, Ida Carbaugh, Susie Staley, Fannie Franklin and Carrie Baker; and four brothers, Harry Barnes, Jess Barnes, Edward Barnes and James Barnes.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa. The Rev. Mervil Stambaugh will officiate. Burial will be in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain.
The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Evelyn C. Shaw
CARLISLE, Pa. - Evelyn Coble Shaw, 93, a resident of Forest Park Health Center, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at the center.
Born July 7, 1904, in Peters Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jacob A. and Susie Kistler Coble.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore M. Shaw, in 1982.
She was a teacher at Big Springs School for 15 years, retiring in 1969.
She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg.
She was a member of National Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by three brothers, Llewellyn T. Coble of Penn Hall, Pa., Jacob A. Coble of Sarasota, Fla., and Richard F. Coble of East Haven, Vt.; and one sister, Lillian R. Rockett of Manheim, Pa.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. The Rev. Robert Seibold will officiate. Burial will be in Coble's Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Carl E. Barkdoll
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Carl E. Barkdoll, 65, of 11726 Kimberly Drive, and of 3161 Old Farmhouse Drive, North Fort Myers, Fla., died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at his home in Florida.
Born June 8, 1932, in Spruce Creek, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles E. and Esther M. Weyer Barkdoll.
He attended Greencastle High School.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
He retired from Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro, after more than 30 years. Earlier he worked for the former Manbeck Bread Co., Hagerstown.
He attended First United Methodist Church, Greencastle.
He was a life member of Rescue Hose Co. 1 of Greencastle; a life member of Greencastle Sportsman Association; played high school baseball and American Legion baseball; and coached Little League baseball.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Arlene M. McClain Barkdoll; two sons, Brian G. Barkdoll and Bradley E. Barkdoll, both of Greencastle; one sister, Louise Mowen of Greencastle; one brother, Charles E. "Whitey" Barkdoll of Greencastle; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald W. Barkdoll.
Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. David Armstrong will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Richard B. Cole
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Richard B. "Rich" Cole, 20, of 13171 Mentzer Gap Road, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, in Glendale, Ariz., as the result of injuries received in an auto accident.
Born June 11, 1977, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Kathy M. Kelley Kreps and Daniel L. Cole.
He was a 1995 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School. He played varsity football and was a member of Waynesboro Colt and Pony Baseball leagues.
He held the rank of airman 1st class in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the 61st Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base, Phoenix.
Prior to entering the service, he worked for three years at Chestnut Logs Restaurant, Rouzerville, Pa.
He was a member of Ringgold Church of Christ.
He is survived by his parents, Robert L. and Kathy M. Kreps of Waynesboro and Daniel L. and Donna M. Cole of Halfway; maternal grandparents, Jack and Helen Snay of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Susan Marie Churchey of Sharpsburg; paternal grandparents, Harry and Elaine Cline of Williamsport; four sisters, Tina L. Kreps of Fairfield, Tricia L. Kreps of Zullinger, Pa., Cheryl L. Whitmore of Hagerstown and Carol L. Cunninghan of Maugansville; three brothers, Thomas L. Kreps and Terry L. Kreps, both of Waynesboro and Darrell W. Huntsberger of California; his girlfriend, Shannon Socks of Hagerstown; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles R. Kelley Sr.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Donald Conley will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Garden, Hagerstown.

D. Glenn Shelly
QUINCY, Pa. - D. Glenn Shelly, 89, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home for four years; and formerly of Osceola Mills, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Sept. 7, 1908, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Aaron B. and Mae Meckley Shelly.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Omie Davis Shelly, in 1975.
He attended the former Lemasters High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
In his early life he farmed. He also worked at Letterkenny Army Depot and had a small grocery store and gas station in New Franklin, Pa. He had owned an insurance office in Greencastle.
He was a member of Lemasters United Methodist Church, Lemasters, Pa.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Ruth A. Hunt Shelly of Osceola Mills, Pa.; two sisters, Janet Eckstine and Margaret Evans, both of Greencastle; four brothers, Ray Shelly of Hagerstown, Fred Shelly of Greencastle, Ralph Shelly of Chambersburg and Charles O. Shelly of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two stepchildren, Jack Acey of Brisbon, Pa., and Gertrude Jean Muir of Osceola Mills; stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Shelly and Robert Shelly; and one sister, Ruth Shank.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. William Tillotson and the Rev. Gail Mogel Tillotson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas, Pa.
