Marion M. Brandt
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Marion Margaret Brandt, 94, of 102 Sunnyside Ave., died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Sept. 11, 1903, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James Wesley and Laura Foutz Rice.
She attended school in Greencastle. She graduated from business college in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
She taught school in Florida for a number of years and worked as a stenographer for three years in Florida. She also worked with her husband on the farm, and owned and operated a gas station and grocery store on Williamsport Pike, Greencastle, for a number of years.
She was a member of State Line United Methodist Church, State Line, Pa., where she taught the King's Daughter Sunday School Class for 42 years.
She was a past member of Zullinger's Homemakers Club and National AARP.
She is survived by her husband, Kermit Curtin Brandt, whom she married on July 24, 1926; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Rice and Eva Rice; four brothers, Floyd Rice, Jerry Rice, David Rice and Norman Rice; and three infants.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Carlton D. White will officiate. Entombment will be in Parklawns Memorial Mausoleum, Chambersburg, Pa.
Private viewing and visitation will be at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle.
Gordon Howell
MONT ALTO, Pa. - Gordon "Shawn" Howell, 27, of 207 Main St., died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998.
Born May 30, 1970, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Barbara Ann Settles Howell of Mont Alto.
He was a 1989 graduate of Waynesboro Area High School.
He was employed by various local farmers.
He was a member of Future Farmers of America.
He was of the Protestant faith.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Teresa D. Smith of Mont Alto; one brother, Michael T. Howell of Mont Alto; maternal grandmother, Carmen Settles of Greencastle, Pa.; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Floyd Settles.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Roger K. Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Price's Church Cemetery in Washington Township, Pa.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Creston C. Herold
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - Creston C. Herold, 79, of Mechanicsburg, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at Bethany Village Retirement Center, Mechanicsburg.
Born Nov. 8, 1918, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Isabelle Huttenberger Herold.
He was a graduate of Forest Park High School, Baltimore, and of Towson State College.
He was a former executive director of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Camp Hill, Pa.
He was a member of Rotary Club of Mechanicsburg and a former member of Rotary clubs in Chicago; Ligonier, Pa.; New Bern, N.C.; and Philadelphia.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Shinham Herold; one daughter, Lisa H. Olson of Minnetonka, Minn.; one son, Dr. Creston C. Herold Jr. of Camp Hill; five grandchildren; and one niece.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut St., Camp Hill. The Rev. J. Stewart Hardy, the Rev. Pamela J. Werner and the Rev. Richard P. Bigelow will officiate. Burial will be in the church columbarium.
Visitation will be in the church library Saturday one hour prior to the service.

Gifford A.S. Rook
MONT ALTO, Pa. - Gifford A. Staley Rook, 86, of 408 Cedar St., died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.
Born Nov. 16, 1911, in South Mountain, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Lula Naugle Staley.
Her husband, Orval M. Rook, died in 1965. They were married in May 1929.
She was employed in the laundry department at Samuel Dixon State Hospital, now South Mountain Restoration Center, South Mountain.
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Mont Alto, and the Friendly Corner Sunday School Class.
She is survived by one daughter, Isabelle A. Powell of Waynesboro; two sons, Orval Jack Rook of St. Thomas, Pa., and Samuel N. Rook of Mont Alto; one sister, Verna Kantner of Waynesboro; two brothers, Harold Staley of Ferrum, Va., and Charles Staley of Chambersburg, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra S. Shatzer; one son, William M. Rook; two sisters; three brothers; and one grandson.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in Quincy, Pa.
There will be no public viewing.

Robert D. Walter
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Robert D. Walter, 84, a resident of Penn Hall Manor, and formerly of Greenvillage, Pa., died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Dec. 23, 1913, in Quincy Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Herman L. and Mary Mosser Walter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Metz Walter, in 1996.
He was a 1932 graduate of the former Quincy High School, Quincy, Pa.
He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, in 1976.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II in the European Theater.
He is survived by one daughter, Anita R. Walter of Chambersburg; two sons, David R. Walter of Chambersburg and Alan M. Walter of Silver Spring, Md.; and three brothers, George H. Walter and Albert M. Walter, both of Waynesboro, Pa., and John A. Walter of Fayetteville, Pa.
He was preceded in death by three sisters.
Services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Ray M. Geigley will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Clarence W. Snyder
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Clarence W. Snyder, 66, of 9866 Fort Loudon Road, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Sept. 16, 1931, in Mercersburg, he was the son of Mae Snyder Bishop of Mercersburg.
He was employed by the former Heisey's Orchards and the former Mercersburg Tannery, both in Mercersburg.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Earl E. Snyder of Mercersburg; one half sister, Edna M. Burkett of Greencastle, Pa.; one niece; and eight nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. The Rev. Roy E. Break Sr. will officiate.

Roy O. Martin
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Roy O. Martin, 81, of 546 E. King St., died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg.
Born Oct. 1, 1916, in Orrstown, Pa., he was the son of the late Calvin and May Reed Martin.
He was a 1935 graduate of Shippensburg High School, Shippensburg, Pa.
He was a retired clerk with the U.S. Postal Service, Chambersburg. He also had been employed by the former Big D, Chambersburg.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II in the European Theater.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Janet McVitty Martin, whom he married on Feb. 7, 1942; one son, Gary L. Martin of Chambersburg; three sisters, Zora Critchfield and Mildred Baker, both of Shippensburg, and Virginia Gardner of Newburg, Pa.; one brother, Robert Martin of Shippensburg; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Donald C. Nolder will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, with military graveside services conducted by Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Chambersburg.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

John L. Peck
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - John L. Peck, 67, of Pine Street, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg.
Born July 23, 1930, in Needmore, Pa., he was the son of the late Cleveland and May Clark Peck.
He had been employed by Three Mile Island. He also had worked for Thompson Township Supervisors for four years.
He was a member of American Legion Post 561 and life member of VFW Post 655, both of McConnellsburg.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by one son, Roland Peck of New Mexico; two sisters, Annie Fittry and Mamie Atherton, both of Mercersburg, Pa.; and one brother, Chester Peck of Needmore.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
