Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Tilman Olson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Tilman Olson, 96, formerly of 981 Locust St., died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at Franklin County Nursing Home, Chambersburg.

Born Sept. 12, 1901, in Gilman, Iowa, he was the son of the late Ole O. and Louise Berntson Olson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Birdilla Ruth Olson, in 1994.

He was an orchard farmer for 35 years near Mont Alto, Pa.

He was a member of Fetterhoff Chapel United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.

He is survived by two  daughters, Martha L. Short of Chambersburg and Ruth A. Thompson of Mercersburg, Pa.; two sons, George R. Olson of Kernersville, N.C., and Ronald L. Olson of Annapolis; one sister, Margaret Lackey of Phoenix; one brother, Otto Olson of Hereford, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sons, three sisters, four brothers, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Robert Basom will officiate. Burial will be in Mont Alto Cemetery, Mont Alto.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Fetterhoff Chapel United Methodist Church, 4073 Fetterhoff Chapel Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

James D. Siner

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - James David Siner, 56, of 323 Moss Spring Ave., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at his home.

Born Jan. 6, 1942, in Muskogee, Okla., he was the son of Booster and Mildred Collier Siner of Muskogee.

He was a graduate of Muskogee High School. He received his bachelor of science degree from Northeastern University in Tahlequah, Okla.

He retired from Corning Inc., Corning, N.Y. He had served as plant manager in Clinton, Ill.; Charleroi, Pa.; Martinsburg, W.Va.; and Greencastle.

He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Greencastle.

He was a member of Franklin County Literacy Council; former chairman of American Cancer Society, Martinsburg, and coached midget league football.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dianne Van Tuyl Siner; two  daughters, Sheri Woolcock of Greencastle and Bobbi Carbaugh of Knoxville, Tenn.; one son, Mark Siner of Chicago; one sister, Meredith Howard of Tulsa, Okla.; one brother, Dennis Siner of Muskogee; and four grandchildren.

He requested that his remains be donated to the Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa., for medical research.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grace United Church of Christ, 128 E. Baltimore St., Greencastle. Pastor Donald L. McBride will officiate.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Jerome King Playground Association, P.O. Box 2, Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Arrangements are by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle.

Doris J. Long

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Doris J. Long, 60, of 2459 McCleary Drive, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Nov. 4, 1937, in Huntingdon, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Carl E. and Erma Muckel Madden.

She was a graduate of John Harris High School, Harrisburg, Pa.

She had been employed by the Franklin Shopper in Chambersburg as a sales executive since its inception. She was formerly employed by F&M Trust Co., Chambersburg.

She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Chambersburg.

She was a member of Penn National Golf Club, Fayetteville, Pa., and a former member of Chambersburg Country Club, Chambersburg.

She is survived by her husband, Donald H. Long, whom she married on May 31, 1996; two sons, Michael A. Petrucci of Chambersburg and Steven E. Petrucci of Fayetteville; and one grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg. The Rev. Stephen W. Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Marilyn V.F. Green

ROUZERVILLE, Pa. - Marilyn Virginia Fogle Green, 63, of 13118 Mentzer Lane, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, of heart failure in the emergency room of Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.

Born May 27, 1934, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Lanora V. Bittinger Fogle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Green, in 1971.

She was a homemaker.

She attended Rouzerville United Methodist Church, Rouzerville, and the Total Life Center of Waynesboro Hospital.

She is survived by two  daughters, Brenda L. Rowland and Becky Sue Hummer, both of Rouzerville; three sons, Donald E. Green and Robert L. Green, both of Waynesboro, and Thomas A. Green of Burleson, Texas; one sister, Frances Fogle of Dry Run, Pa.; one brother, Jerry Fogle of Gardners, Pa.; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Conod and Ruth A. Pogue; and three brothers, George W. Fogle Jr., Richard A. Fogle Sr. and Allen Fogle.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Jeffrey Swanger will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Total Life Center, c/o Waynesboro Hospital, 501 E. Main St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Charles E. Neubaum

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Charles E. Neubaum, 79, of 27 Salem Road, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born March 22, 1918, in Enhaut, Dauphin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Fred G. and Mary A. Mellheim Neubaum.

He was preceded in death by a wife, Lillian Shatzer Neubaum, in 1980.

He was a 1935 graduate of William Penn High School, Harrisburg, Pa. He also was a graduate of Central Penn Business School, Harrisburg.

He was a retired U.S. Air Force senior master sergeant with 22 years of service. He served in World War II, the Korean War and during the Vietnam era and retired in 1968 from active service. He served as a chief warrant officer for 10 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

He was employed in public relations for Hood-Light-Geise Advertising Agency, Harrisburg. He was assistant state adjutant for the American Legion from 1970 to 1980.

He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.

He was a life member of Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post 223, Shippensburg, Pa., and Harry D. Zeigler Post 6319 VFW, Greencastle, Pa. He was a member of Landis-McCleaf Detachment Marine Corps League, Chambersburg; Atomic Veterans and Chambersburg Club.

He is survived by his wife, Shelda K. Kell Neubaum, whom he married on Sept. 25, 1982; one son, Gary Neubaum of Enola, Pa.; one brother, Robert Neubaum of Lemoyne, Pa.; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one brother, William Neubaum.

Services will be Thursday at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker and the Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate.

Graveside services with full military honors will be Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home two hours prior to the service.

Sarah R.R. Scott

YORK, Pa. - Sarah Rebecca Rowe Scott, 86, a resident of York County Nursing Home, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born Dec. 17, 1911, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Minnie Wade Rowe. She lived her early life in Waynesboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Scott, in 1984.

She was employed as a seamstress by South Pine Nite Wear of York for a number of years.

She attended Messiah United Methodist Church, York.

She is survived by one son, James A. Scott of York; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara A. Heikes; 12 brothers and sisters.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Lynn D. Trutt will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to York County Nursing Home, 118 Pleasant Acres Road, York, Pa. 17402.

Mary E.C. Socks

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Mary Evelyn Creager Socks, 83, of 8899 Tomstown Road, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, in Waynesboro Hospital.

Born March 9, 1914, in Fairview, Quincy Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Sidney H. Creager Sr. and Margaret Viola Bricker Creager. She was a life-long resident of Fairview.

She attended Fairview Tomstown School.

She was employed as a polish machine operator at Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro, and retired in 1976.

She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Waynesboro. She was the secretary of the primary organization of the church for 32 years and was a visiting teacher of the church for many years.

She was a member of Waynesboro Fish and Game Association and AARP.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Henry Wilson Socks Sr.; three  daughters, Mildred L. Finney and Frances A. Socks, both of Waynesboro, and Phyllis I. Ecker of Frederick, Md.; one son, Henry W. Socks Jr. of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two sisters, Reba E. Moats and Julia M. Harbaugh, both of Waynesboro; three brothers, Eardley J. Creager, Sidney H. Creager Jr. and A. Richie Creager, all of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mabel I. Bingaman, Josephine V. Hayes and Betty L. Hurley; one granddaughter and one grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Bishop Gary A. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Quincy Cemetery, Quincy, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
