Eunice L. Smoot

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Eunice L. Smoot, 77, of 270 Menno Village, died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at Menno Village.

Born July 19, 1920, in Donora, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Reuben A. and Nellie Jones Locke.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Creston Rosenberry, in 1953.

She was a 1939 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

She retired in 1980 after 26 years of service from DESCOM at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, as a program analyst. Formerly, she worked at the Social Security Administration Office in Chambersburg; and Western Maryland Railroad, Culbertson, Pa.

She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg.

She was a member of American Association of Retired Persons; and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

She is survived by her husband, Robert F. Smoot, whom she married Oct. 9, 1975; one stepson, Steven E. Smoot of Lancaster, Pa.; one stepgrandson, Aaron Smoot of Lancaster; one sister, Ruby Ausherman of Chambersburg; four nieces; four nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Chaplain Samuel Troyer and Chaplain Vernon Isner will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The viewing will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or Menno Haven, 2075 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.

Frances L. Pullin

ROUZERVILLE, Pa. - Frances L. Bickel Pullin, 75, of 11735 Pen Mar Road, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

Born April 18, 1922, in Marpleton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Hanson Walter and Cosby Lea Cutlip Bickel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Junior Pullin, in 1993. They were married in 1956.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Newville Church of Newville, W.Va.; attended Rouzerville United Methodist Church, Rouzerville and Pond Bank Independent Church, Pond Bank, Pa.

She was a member of homemakers clubs in West Virginia.

She is survived by three  daughters, Glenneth R. Griffith of Clarksburg, W.Va., Rose Riddle of Rouzerville and Sally L. Kutheis of Bolumholter, Germany; one son, Edward Lee Butcher of New York; two brothers, Harlin C. Bickel and Hanson Walter Bickel Jr., both of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, John J. Pullin II; and five brothers.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, 600 Riverview Drive, Sutton, W.Va. Burial will be in Newville Cemetery, Newville, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa.; and on Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton, W.Va.

Hazel K. Rumler

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Hazel Karper Rumler, 84, of 937 Wallace Ave., died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Born June 20, 1913, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Florence Sellers Miller.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles W. Karper, in 1980.

She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School; and Chambersburg Business School.

She was a 50-year member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Chambersburg.

She was a past matron of Martha Custis Order of Eastern Star 342, Chambersburg.

She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Rumler; two  daughters, Sandra K. Smith and Carolyn K. Miller, both of Chambersburg; two stepchildren, Craig Rumler of Hoover, Ala., and Karen R. Loden of Warner Robins, Ga.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Norman S. Miller.

Services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg. Pastor Stephen W. Hoffman and the Rev. Jeffrey L. Roth will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; American Heart Association, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or Chambersburg Hospital, 112 N. Seventh St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Arrangements are by Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

Floyd S. Fritz

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Floyd S. Fritz, 96, of 14126 Fort Loudon Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born April 18, 1901, in Little Cove, Pa., he was the son of the late Merritt and Addie May Phenicie Fritz.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma I. Weller Fritz, in 1988.

He farmed in the Kasiesville, Pa., area, retiring in 1966.

He is survived by a son, Maurice Fritz of Mercersburg; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marcella Bricker; a son, Haskin Fritz; two grandchildren; a sister, and three brothers.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Paul A. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

The viewing will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Daniel H. McQuade

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Daniel H. McQuade, 64, of McConnellsburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, Pa.

Born Feb. 16, 1933, in Cito, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry J. and Thesta A. Carbaugh McQuade.

He was a welder at JLG Industries; and later owned and operated A-1 Septic Service.

He was a member of Cito United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy A. Cromer McQuade; four  daughters, Debra K. McQuade and Wanda L. Hobday, both of McConnellsburg, Jacqueline M. Harr of Big Cove Tannery, Pa., and Laura L. Maynard of Greencastle, Pa.; four stepchildren, Donna Mumma Paige of Loysville, Pa., Melinda Mumma Taylor of McConnellsburg, John Edison Mumma of Hustontown, Pa., and William Dale Mumma of Texas; one sister, Faye E. Bard of McConnellsburg; one brother, Harry B. "Butch" McQuade of McConnellsburg; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. David Carroll will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Littleton Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

Margaret L. Thomas

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Margaret L. Thomas, 77, of 232 Linden Ave., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at her home.

Born July 16, 1920, in Kasiesville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Fred and Bertha Blair Koser.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson E. Thomas, in 1996.

She worked at Mercersburg Sewing Factory. Later, she assisted her husband as bookkeeper in the operation of Wilson Thomas Garage and Radiator Service.

She and her husband sang on "Hymn Time" on Sunday mornings on WCHA and later WKSL radio for 44 years until 1996.

She was a member of Faith Temple Church of Cearfoss. For 40 years she served as treasurer and secretary of the church.

She is survived by a son, Larry E. Thomas Sr. of Mercersburg; five sisters, Vera Thomas, Frances Kerlin and Mildred Rubeck, all of Mercersburg, Betty Miller of Chambersburg and Grace Swope of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two brothers, Charles E. Koser of Mercersburg and Donald Koser of Dover, Pa.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason L. Thomas; one sister, Anna Gress; and three brothers, Orville Koser, Alfred Koser and Elwood Koser.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Temple, 14015 Cearfoss Pike, Hagerstown. The Rev Ronald Lynch, the Rev. W. David Kent and the Rev. Roy E. Brake Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

The viewing will be Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg; and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Home Care, Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Dora E. Evans

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Dora E. Evans, 84, of 2234 Hafer Road, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Jan. 14, 1914, in Markos, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Samuel C. and Carrie Zoe Rotz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Evans, in 1984.

She was a homemaker and worked as a food processor for Knouse Foods, Chambersburg, and Musselman's, Mercersburg, Pa.

She was a member of New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church, Chambersburg.

She was a member of Auxiliary of Charles M. Nittlerhouse Post 1599 VFW, Chambersburg.

She is survived by four  daughters, Jane C. Evans, Shirley Beecher, and Susan Naugle, all of Fayetteville, and Linda Hoke of Marion, Pa.; three sons, Lester L. Evans of Apopka, Fla., John S. Evans of Fayetteville and Richard W. Evans of Wrightsville, Pa.; four sisters, Cora Seilhamer of New Franklin, Pa., Janet Ehrhart of Upper Strasburg, Pa., Ruth Suders of Fort McCord, Pa., and Cleta Kohll of Chambersburg; one brother, Carl Rotz of Fort McCord; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan E. Ulrich; three sons, Robert E. Evans, Larry R. Evans and Kermit L. Evans; two sisters; and one brother.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church, 1575 Mont Alto Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Robert D. Verno and the Rev. Larry M. Dillon will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas, Pa.

Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg; and Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mary M. Kisecker

SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Mary Mildred Beck Kisecker, 97, a resident of Michaux Manor Living Center, and formerly of 134 Clayton Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa.

Born March 12, 1900, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late J. Edward and Annie E. Wingert Beck.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Paxton "Pax" Kisecker, in 1957. They were married Sept. 14, 1922.

She was a 1918 graduate of Waynesboro High School. She attended Waynesboro Business College and graduated from Baltimore Business School. She also studied piano at Wilson College, Chambersburg, Pa.

She was an 80-year member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro.

She was a charter member, life member and past matron of Mount Vernon Chapter 398 Order of the Eastern Star; member and past president of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15 Auxiliary; life member and 25-year secretary of Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary; member of DAR; and National AARP.

She did volunteer work in the Waynesboro community.

She is survived by one daughter, Lois K. Shull of Waynesboro; six granddaughters; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ann K. Stoner, in 1997; one sister, Esther B. Schultz; and one brother, Lester E. Beck.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library, 45 E. Main St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.
