Bessie M. Romig

WELLS TANNERY, Pa. - Bessie M. Romig, 86, of Box 78, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at her daughter's home, 693 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born April 17, 1911, in Knobsville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Mary Tice Wagner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Romig, in 1978.

She was a housekeeper at Breeze Manor Motel in Breezewood, Pa., prior to retirement.

She was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Wells Tannery.

She attended Hopewell Senior Citizens and Wells Tannery Senior Citizens Group.

She is survived by one daughter, LuWanda Mumma of Chambersburg; one son, Ted Alton Romig of Port Matilda, Pa.; one sister, Mabel Wagner of Elizabethtown, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, William Romig; two sisters, Mildred Wagner and Edna Wagner; one great-great-grandchild; and one step-great-grandson.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Methodist Church, Wells Tannery. The Rev. David Arnold and the Rev. George Clippinger will officiate. Burial will be in Roaring Run Cemetery, Wells Tannery.

The family will receive friends at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church Tuesday one hour prior to the service. The funeral home will be open today from 2 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Pine Grove Methodist Church, Wells Tannery, Pa. 16691.

Julia N. Davis

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Julia N. Fetter Davis, 89, of HCR 80 Box 541, McConnellsburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at her home.

Born April 9, 1908, in Parkers Landing, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Reuben Henry and Fannie Wise Fetter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Chester A. Davis, in 1965.

She graduated from Edinboro College with a degree in art.

She was an art teacher in the McConnellsburg schools from 1954 to 1971.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She had been the Red Cross chairwoman in Fulton County for 16 years; supervised art in Westmoreland County; lectured for American Junior Red Cross at colleges; and held offices in Officers Wives Clubs.

She is survived by two  daughters, Nancy Davis Young of Pittsburgh and Patricia Davis Decker of Harrisonville, Pa.; two sons, Charles C.A. Davis of McConnellsburg and John B.W. Davis of Menlo Park, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Irvin; and one brother, William Fetter.

Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. 2nd St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. Henry Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends, visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marvin E. Rife

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Marvin E. "Marv" Rife, 61, of 2351 Edenville Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at his home.

Born Aug. 17, 1936, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Jay S. and Beulah I. Rohrer Rife.

He was a 1954 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He was a warehouseman for T.B. Woods, for 24 years. He previously owned and operated Rifes Pastry Shop.

He was a member of Chambersburg Open Door Church, where he was the Sunday school bus driver since 1972.

He was a member of Hamilton Ruritan Club; and AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Misner Rife, whom he married April 3, 1955; three  daughters, Jewel Rosenberry of St. Thomas, Pa., Wanda Flood of Chambersburg and Mervette Flood of Harrisburg, Pa.; and two granddaughters, Jennifer Rosenberry and Carmen Rosenberry, both of St. Thomas.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Chambersburg Open Door Church. Dr. Dino Pedrone and the Rev. Keith Skelton will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas; and Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church. For the convenience of friends, visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 2040 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, Pa. 17110.

Helen M. Everetts

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Helen M. "Grandma" Everetts, 86, a resident of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of 6755 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, Pa., died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at Franklin County Nursing Home, Chambersburg.

Born March 26, 1911, in Snake Spring Valley, Bedford County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ada Alice Bingham Diehl.

Her husband, Nedford E. Everetts, preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by three  daughters, Verna June Neuder of Dudley, Pa., Virginia A. Swope of Chambersburg, and Lucretia M. Bowser of St. Thomas; two sisters, Mary Blankley and Betty Harclerode, both of Everett, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Stuart A. Troutman will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Marvin E. Rife

Nelson B. Fleming

QUINCY, Pa. - Nelson B. Fleming, 85, of 203 B Quincy Court, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1997, at Quincy United Methodist Home.

Born Feb. 24, 1912, in Quincy, Pa., he was the son of the late John N. and Elizabeth Burger Fleming.

He attended Quincy Schools. He graduated from Maryland Institute of Design and Engineering. He also trained in aircraft engineering and maintenance and in welding and fabrication at the former Curtis Wright Air Field in Baltimore.

He was employed in the engineering department of Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Factory in Middle River, Md., from 1933 to 1946. From 1946 until his retirement, in 1990, he was co-owner of Fleming and Sheeley Inc., an interior decorating company in Middle River.

He was a member of Essex United Methodist Church, Essex, Md.

He was a charter member of Jephthah Masonic Lodge 222 Free and Accepted Masons, Middle River, and was a Scottish Rite 32 degree Mason, in Baltimore. He was a member of Boumi Temple Shrine and Boumi Temple Yacht Club, both in Baltimore; past president of Rotary Club, Middle River; past president of Essex River Chamber of Commerce; and a life member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 768, Essex. He received the Outstanding and Dedicated Service Award from Essex Development Corp., in 1992; and the Paul Harris Fellow Award in Rotary.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth M. "Betty" Sheeley Fleming, whom he married in June of 1936; one son, John R. Fleming of Rehoboth Beach, Del.; two sisters, Jane L. Sheeley of Quincy and Ella Mae Dellinger of Quincy and Red Lion, Pa.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Masonic services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Essex United Methodist Church, Woodward Drive, Essex. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Eddie L. Henry will officiate. Burial will be in Holly Hill Cemetery, Baltimore.

The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Essex United Methodist Church, Maryland Avenue and Woodward Drive, Essex, Md. 21221; or Benevolent Fund of Quincy Untied Methodist Home, P.O. Box 128, Quincy, Pa. 17247.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro.
