Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

James H. Walker

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Funeral services for James H. "Sonny" Walker, 56, of Harrisburg, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., who died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Harrisburg Hospital, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 615 W. Martin St., Martinsburg.

The Rev. Robert Craig will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the services at the church.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Mae S. Lesher

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mae Shank Lesher, 85, of 16 S. Penn Hall Drive, and formerly a 53-year resident of Scott Road, Zullinger, Pa., died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

Born June 12, 1912, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Christian J. and Fannie Carpenter Shank.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church, Hagerstown.

She was a charter member and served as chairman of Zullinger Homemakers; past president of Shady Grove Women's Club; a member of Waynesboro YMCA Auxiliary; Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary, where she volunteered at the snack bar; Waynesboro AARP Chapter 739; and served as a scout leader in the Girl Scouts, where she earned the Thanks Badge, the highest award in Girl Scouts.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Raymond W. Lesher; one sister, Carrie Grove of Hagerstown; one brother, Leonard Shank of Menno-Haven, Chambersburg; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa. Chaplain Samuel Troyer will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Pa.

There will be no public viewing. The family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Benevolent Care Fund of Penn Hall, 1425 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Lester M. Ullery

SOUTH MOUNTAIN, Pa. - Lester M. Ullery, 84, of South Mountain Restoration Center and formerly of 44 E. Wine St., Uniontown, Pa., and Somerset, Pa., died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.

He was born Dec. 12, 1912, in Keyser, W.Va.

His wife, Jenny Bowman, died in 1996.

He was employed with LTV Steel in Uniontown until his retirement.

He is survived by one nephew, Larry Russman of Uniontown.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of South Mountain Restoration Center. The Rev. Richard Stumpley will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

James H. Walker

HARRISBURG, Pa. - James H. "Sonny" Walker, 56, of Harrisburg, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Harrisburg Hospital.

Born Dec. 5, 1940, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Elmer William and Mary Virginia Norris Walker.

He was a former employee of Shenandoah Hotel.

He served with the Air Force.

He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

He is survived by four sisters, Rebecca Washington and Helen Fox, both of Martinsburg, Beatrice Carter and Jeanette L. Warden, both of Harrisburg; two brothers, Elmer Walker Jr. and Fulton L. Walker Sr., both of Martinsburg; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ellen Walker; and one brother, Henry Walker.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 615 W. Martin St., Martinsburg. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the services at the church.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Rhoda M. Miller

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Rhoda M. Miller, 86, of 5755 Fort McCord Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at her home.

Born Oct. 15, 1911, in St. Thomas, Pa., she was the daughter of the late David and Sadie Wingert Niswander.

She was a homemaker and mother.

She was a member of Old Order River Brethren Church.

She is survived by her husband, Samuel E. Miller, whom she married Nov. 15, 1934; two sons, John J. Miller and Elmer D. Miller, both of Chambersburg; one brother, Elmer Niswander of St. Thomas; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Carl N. Miller, in 1955; and one sister, Catherine Gayman.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Strasburg Mennonite Church. The Rev. Eldon Heckman and Joseph Conley will officiate. Burial will be in Brechbill Cemetery. A short service also will be Friday at 9 a.m. at the home of the family.

The viewing will be Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the home of the family, 5755 Fort McCord Road, Chambersburg.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Arrangements are by Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, Pa.

Eulalie M. Shoemaker

CALEDONIA, Pa. - Eulalie M. Shoemaker, 96, of Piney Mountain, and formerly of Pinellas Park, Fla., died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at Piney Mountain.

Born May 31, 1901, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late, Samuel and Anna Martin Shoemaker.

She retired from Stanley Co., as a seamstress.

She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.

She is survived by two nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Bertha Horst, Hazel Bowman and Henrietta McCurdy.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Greenvillage Cemetery. The Rev. Lester Stine will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, Pa.

Albert C. Peters

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Albert C. Peters, 86, of 304-B Walnut St., died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born April 25, 1911, on Buttermilk Road, in Quincy Township, he was the son of the late George A. and Margaret Knepper Peters.

He attended Mont Alto schools. He later graduated from Waynesboro Business College.

He served in the Army in Hawaii. Following his discharge from the military and the start of World War II, he re-entered the Army, serving in the European Theater.

After the war, he was employed by the Department of Defense in the Defense Supply Agency. Until his retirement in 1973, he worked for the agency at New Cumberland Army Depot, New Cumberland, Pa.; Schenectady Army Depot, Schenectady, N.Y.; Washington, D.C.; and the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot. Earlier, he was employed by White Hill Industrial School, presently Camp Hill State Correctional Institution, as a guard; and then at Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro, as a machine operator.

He was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, Waynesboro.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus; Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15; William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695; BPO Elks Lodge 731; Eagles Club, all of Waynesboro; a charter member of Cardiac Club of Waynesboro Hospital; and National AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Genevich Peters, whom he married May 28, 1960; one son, Albert C. Peters II of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; one sister, Virgie M. Peters of Waynesboro; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister and brother; and four sisters, Zula Ruth Duggan, Rhonda McNew, Vada Badeker and Rozella Carnegie Sullivan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Thomas J. Hemler will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with a Wake Service at 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or to St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church General Fund, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Jarett M. Peiffer

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Jarett Michael Peiffer, infant son of David R. and Heather Gregory Peiffer of 153 Wilkson Lane, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by maternal grandparents, Willis and Deb Gregory of Waynesboro, Pa.; paternal grandparents, Mark and Donna Peiffer of Fayetteville; maternal great-grandmother, Barbara Summers of Waynesboro; paternal great-grandmother, Stella Dull of Waynesboro; paternal great-grandparents, Harry and Mary Peiffer, both residents of Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa.; and four uncles.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Mount Zion Cemetery, Quincy Township, Pa. Pastor Jaye M. Bartles will officiate.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

Aaron Geesaman Jr.

FAIRFIELD, Pa. - Aaron "Curly" Geesaman Jr., 71, of 603 Harbaugh Valley Road, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at his home.

Born April 23, 1926, in Quincy Township, Pa., he was the son of the late J. Aaron and C. Maude Kipe Geesaman.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille N. Gladhill Geesaman, in 1956.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater for 18 months.

Before and after his military service, he was employed by R.J. Baer Feed Mill near Waynesboro, Pa.. He then worked for Shank's Feed and Flour Mill near Waynesboro for 22 years. Following the closing of the mill, he worked for Mack Trucks in Hagerstown in department 710 as a lab mechanic for 15 years. He retired in 1987.

He was a member of Jacob's Church for 42 years. He served as a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent for most of that time. He then transferred to Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, serving on the administrative board for a term.

He was a member of Blue Ridge Sportsman Association, Greencastle Sportsman Association and the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn R. Royer Geesaman, whom he married on April 23, 1965; two  daughters, Melody Shubert of Shippensburg, Pa., and Amy S. Geesaman of Altoona, Pa.; two sons, Donald L. Geesaman of Fairfield and Dale C. Geesaman of McConnellsburg, Pa.; one sister, Carmon Gladhill of Fairfield; one brother, H. Joe Geesaman of Afton, Wyo.; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John W. Geesaman.

A memorial service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 6 W. Second St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Jay E. Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no public viewing. The family will receive friends following the services in Frank Hall of the church.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the general fund, Christ United Methodist Church, 6 W. Second St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
