WILLIAM F. MILLER
William F. Miller, 75, of Uniontown, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, in LaFayette Manor. He was born Aug. 2, 1924, in Uniontown, to the late Paul A. Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Walls) Miller. Mr. Miller graduated from Uniontown High School in 1942 and attended California State Teachers College (B.S.), Penn State University (M.Ed.), and was a veteran of World War II with many decorations for his combat duties. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Hartzell Miller; a son, Kurt W. of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Gail Lynn Marmol of Greensburg; and four grandchildren. His brothers , Thomas E. Miller of Sturbridge, Mass., and Paul A. Miller Jr. of Uniontown are deceased. The family will receive friends in the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday until 11 a.m., the time of service with the Rev. Peter Ostrander officiating. Interment will be in the LaFayette Memorial Park with military rites by VFW Post 47 of Uniontown.
CALVIN M. STIFFLER
Calvin M. Stiffler, 94, of Adamsburg, died Monday, June 19, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Dec. 25, 1905, in Pavia, Pa., a son of the late John C. and Tillie Yarnell Stiffler. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Westinghouse Airbrake in Trafford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fernetta Decker Stiffler, in 1993; four brothers , Elmer, John, Russell and Mike Stiffler; and a sister, Emma Taylor. He is survived by two daughters , Jeannine and husband, Bucky Kaylor, of Greensburg and Darlene and husband, William Callaghan, of Irwin; three sisters , Ada Baker of Bedford, Ethel Ranker of Osterburg, Pa., and Ann Maticic of Sidman, Pa.; three grandchildren, Jeff Kaylor, Greg Kaylor, and Michelle Cairns; and a great-grandson, Gordon Kaylor. Friends received at the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Harrison City, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Knotts officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. A Memorial Mass for Josephine Ann Vargo, 65, will be celebrated Thursday, June 22, at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Jacksonville, Fla., with Monsignor James Heslin officiating. A native of Canonsburg, Mrs. Vargo died Sunday, June 18, 2000, in a Jacksonville Beach hospital. Moving from Allentown, she was a resident of Jacksonville since 1998. Mrs. Vargo was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church; and graduated from Seton Hill College in Greensburg, where she received her degree in music. Mrs. Vargo was also a member of the Seton Hill Alumni Association and the Navy Officers Wives Club of America. Survivors include her husband, Henry G. Vargo of Jacksonville; four sons , Henry Vance Vargo of Northampton, Pa., John Thomas Vargo of Yokuska, Japan, Matthew Allen Vargo of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Phillip Andrew Vargo of Edinburg, Pa.; a daughter, Maurann Hakun of Chula Vista, Calif.; two sisters , Patricia Ruffner of Colorado and Elizabeth Trice of Greensburg; and 10 grandchildren. ESTHER M. GRIMM FAUST
Esther M. Grimm Faust, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, died late Wednesday, June 21, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born Dec. 10, 1924, in Donegal, a daughter of the late Charles and Annie brothers Grimm. Esther had lived in Mt. Pleasant since 1948 and was a loving wife, mother , and grandmother. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Church of God. She is survived by her husband, Floyd Faust; a daughter, Elayne Faust of Scottdale; three sons , James Faust of White , Terry Faust of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Donald Faust and his wife, Carol, of Dacula, Ga.; and her grandchildren, Joshua, Holly, Adam, and Joseph Faust, and Jennifer and Katie Bittner. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased a daughter, Joyce Faust; and three half brothers , Homer, Smith, and Dayton Grimm. Wilma Rose Franke, 79, of Bethel Park, formerly of Bryn Mawr, Pa., on Thursday, June 22, 2000. Beloved wife of the late Robert C. Franke; mother of Mrs. Kathleen Riznow of Bethel Park; sister of Madeline Bongard of Sterling, Va., Helen Valentino of Smithville, N.J., Matilda Picciano of Delmont, Pa., and the late Bill Felesky of Export, Pauline Yannotti of Export, and Ed Felesky of Las Vegas, Nev. Also survived by two grandchildren, Tyler Tronzo and Lori Connors. Mrs. Franke attended modeling school in New York City and worked as a model for the May Co. She worked as a secretary for the U.S. Army in New York City, during World War II, and retired from the Lord & Taylor Department Store (May Co.), Bala-Cynwyd, Pa., after 20 years of service. Richard Scott Graft Sr., 36, of North Huntingdon, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, in Louisiana . He was born March 6, 1964, in Arlington, Va., a son of Mildred Voich Andrekanic and her husband, Rodney, of North Huntingdon and Richard Dean Graft of Connellsville. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Eli Voich. In addition to his parents, he is survived by five children, Jeremy, Holly, Brandy, Haley and Richard Scott Graft Jr., and their mother , Annette Canova, all of North Huntingdon; three sisters , Nina Medved of Sidney, Ohio, Jodie Graft and Daneen Essway, both of Greensburg; maternal grandmother, Kay Voich of North Huntingdon; nieces and nephews, Ronald Krautz, Justine Baker, Jasen Essway, Thomas and Joseph Kemerer; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Margaret L. Krinock, 92, of Latrobe, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at her home. She was born Feb. 15, 1908, in Bradenville, a daughter of the late George and Anna Sobota Palko. She was a member of Holy Family Church, Latrobe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Krinock, on March 27, 1989; and three brothers , John, Michael and Edmund Palko. She is survived by two daughters , Nancy Hood and her husband, Roger, of Bradenville and Doris Jean Yemc and her husband, Robert, of Yukon; two brothers , William Palko of Latrobe and George Palko of Greensburg; two sisters , Emma Matrunick of Bradenville and Loretta Repasky of Greensburg; five grandchildren, Edward Hood and his wife, Carri, Lisa Hood and her fiance, Mark Dysert, Kevin Hood, Michele Yemc and Robert Yemc; three great-grandchildren, Anna Marie Sylvester, Nicholas Hood and Andrew Hood; and a number of nieces and nephews. ROBERT ALVIN MAUCK SR.
Robert Alvin Mauck Sr., 80, of Milk & Water Road, Everett, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, in Everett. He was born Nov. 1, 1919, in North Bessemer, Allegheny County, a son of the late Ernest and Maude (Berry) Mauck. On March 16, 1944, he married Audrey C. (Clawson) Mauck, who preceded him in death on May 14, 1992. He is survived by two sons , Robert A. Mauck Jr., married to the former Kathleen Depew, of Everett and William H. Mauck, married to the former Veronica Schilling, of New Alexandria; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Jr.; and a sister, Virginia Costello. Mr. Mauck attended Everett Assembly of God, and had been employed by the Union Railroad in Pittsburgh for 37 years before retiring in 1974, and later moving to Everett. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II from March 22, 1944 to Jan. 11, 1946, at the Naval Training Station, Great Lakes, Ill., and aboard the USS Saturn AF 40. He was a member of American Legion Post 8, Everett, and the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program, where he was active in volunteering his time to visit local nursing homes and provide music. Private funeral services will be held in the DALLA VALLE FUNERAL CHAPEL, Main Street, Everett, at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park, Monroeville. Daisy May McCurdy, 95, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, in the Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg. She was born in Salem Township, June 4, 1905, and was a daughter of the late Snyder E. and Ella Araminta Wolfe. She was a retired employee of the Thrift Drug Store in Greensburg; and was a former member of the Allwine Civic Center and was Protestant by faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Henry McCurdy; a grandson, Darrell; and several sisters and brothers . Daisy is survived by her son, Ralph E. McCurdy and his wife, Pat, of Lancaster, Ohio; a brother, Robert Wolfe and his wife, Betty, of Greensburg; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Sheffler of Greensburg RD9; the following grandchildren: Denise, R. Marion C. Nodvik, 64, of Greenlawn Drive, Mt. Lebanon, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 21, 2000, in her home. She was born Sept. 12, 1935, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Hugh and Rose Young Daley. Mrs. Nodvik was a member of St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church in Mt. Lebanon. On Aug. 13, 1960, in St. Patrick R.C. Church in Canonsburg, she married Richard J. Nodvik, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Christopher Nodvik of Mt. Lebanon; a niece, Ilena Daley; and a nephew, Donn Daley. A brother, Donald D. Daley, preceded her in death. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the MARIO L. Hannah Blankette Pinto, 81, of Chalfont, Pa., formerly of North Huntingdon, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, in Grandview Hospital, Sellersville, Pa. She was born Sept. 14, 1918, in Irwin, a daughter of the late Peter R. and Ruth Plank Blankette. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church, Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, W. Raymond Blankette, in 1986. She is survived by a son, Vincent J. Pinto of Chalfont; a sister-in-law; and two nephews. Agnes Prazenica, 71, of Latrobe, formerly of Ford City, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born April 2, 1929, in Ford City, a daughter of Cyril and Agnes Zvonar Prazenica. She was a member and an employee of Our Lady of Grace Church, Greensburg, and a member of Jednota, Branch 200. She is survived by a brother, Charles "Pooch" Prazenica of Ford City; and two sisters , Mrs. Leo (Rose) Cieply of Ford City and Mrs. Josephine Greenawalt of Cadogan. Predeceased, in addition to her parents, by brothers , Frank, Rudolph, and Stephen Prazenica; and sisters , Sister Claude Ann Prazenica, Mary Spera, and Anna Panchik. Sara Jane Stratton "Granny Sally" Shriver, 76, died Wednesday afternoon, June 21, 2000, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, David K. and Carole Shriver, 301 Tiffany Drive, Waynesboro, Va. She was born Jan. 30, 1924, in Irwin, a daughter of David Stratton and Jenet Michie Stratton. Mrs. Shriver was a native of Greensburg and a former resident of Charlottesville, Va. She had attended Grove City College and was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, where she received her R.N. degree. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Greensburg and attended Trinity Episcopal Church in Staunton, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, whom she married in 1945, Dr. Alan W. Shriver, in April 1987; and by two brothers , Frank Stratton and Robert Stratton. Survivors include two sons , David K. Shriver of Waynesboro, Va., and Dr. Peter A. Shriver of Safety Harbor, Fla.; two daughters , Dr. Polly Shriver Kochan of Penn Valley, Pa., and Maggie Shriver of Alexandria, Va.; five grandchildren, David S. Shriver, Sarah E. Shriver, Michael Kochan, Andrew Kochan and McCullough Shriver; a great-grandson, Dillen E. Watson; and two nephews.
