Margaret (Hardin) Rosevitik, 76, formerly of Level Green and Harrison City, died Saturday, June 10, 2000. A daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Sayka) Hardin. Wife of the late Paul Rosevitik. Beloved mother of Paula (Harry) Kubrick and Ronald (Debbie) Rosevitik. Dear grandmother of Karin and Kelly Kubrick and Kylee Rosevitik. Sister of Dorothy Volpe and Irene Yager. Daniel J. Yaniro Sr., 70, of Southwest Greensburg, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Southwest Greensburg, a son of the late John and Lucy Antonucci Yaniro. Prior to retirement, he had been the owner and operator of The Donut Shoppe on South Main Street, Greensburg. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the
Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Patsy Yaniro and a sister, Ginger McCaulley. He is survived by his wife, Faye A. Andrews Yaniro; two sons , Daniel J. Jr. and his wife, Beth Yaniro, of Freehold, N.J., and Jeffrey A. and his wife, Robbin Yaniro, of South Greensburg; a grandson, Vincent A. Yaniro; a sister, Carmella and her husband, Leonard Zaleski, of Moon Township; and several nieces and nephews. Myrtle M. (Deer) Beck, 95, of Beechview, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2000. Beloved wife of the late Henry A. Beck. Loving mother of Roger D. and his wife, Carol E. Beck, and the late Denis L. Beck. Grandmother of Barbara L. Michael, Beverly J. Geldrich and Barry J. Beck. Great-grandmother of Brad A. Rukle and Paige R. Geldrich. Sister of Florence S. PAUL J. BRANDT
Paul J. Brandt, 79, of Youngwood, died suddenly Tuesday, June 13, 2000, in Greater Niagara General Hospital, Niagara Falls, Canada. Mr. Brandt was born April 28, 1921, in Youngwood, a son of Sebastien and Cecelia Brandt. He was a graduate of St. Vincent College, Class of 1949, and was employed as treasurer of the former Leonard Express of Greensburg. He was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church of Youngwood and a former head of the church council. He was a veteran of World War II, having served 30 months in the U.S. Army in Europe. He was a member of the Youngwood Sportsmen's and a life member of the Hecla Sportsmen's Club. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pauline Sivak Brandt; his sons , William and wife, Rita, of Mt. Pleasant, Mark of Youngwood, and Michael and wife, Paula, of Monessen; two grandsons, Sean and Joe; and two granddaughters, Ana and Maxine. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Cohen; a sister, Catherine Gardner; and a brother, James S. Brandt. Friends and family will be received at the C. John T. "Red" Cook, 80, of North Huntingdon, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at home. He was born July 12, 1919, in Fairmont (North Huntingdon), a son of the late Thomas J. and Maude Davis Cook. He was a retired employee of Westinghouse, Trafford. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Irwin where he served as deacon, trustee of the church, and also the dartball team captain. Also from 1935 to 1937, he was an avid participant in Norwin School District sports and church athletics in later years. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by son, Gary A. Cook; and two sisters , Harriet S. Bruno and Lillian Cook. He is survived by his wife, Regina M. Klemstein Cook; a daughter, Kathie J. Watson of Hunker; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; also nieces and nephews. John M. Foley, 45, of Harrison City, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000. He was born July 27, 1954, in Trenton, N.J., a son of John F. and Margaret Whittaker Foley of Crafton, Pa. He was employed as an electrical repairman at USX Edgar Thomson Works in Braddock. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Harley Owners Group, Latrobe Chapter. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Carol Hallmark Foley; two daughters , Kathleen and Eileen Foley, both at home; two brothers , Michael and Kevin Foley, both of Levittown, Pa.; and three sisters , Noreen Redding of Fairless Hills, Pa., Mary Klim of Beaver County and Meg Foley of Crafton. Mae Gahagan, 90, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, in the Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg. She was born Oct. 29, 1909, in Armstrong County, a daughter of the late George W. and Louise Robinson Chadwick. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed with the Detroit National Bank in Detroit, Mich. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensburg and for many years had volunteered at Westmoreland Manor and had accumulated more than 5,000 volunteer hours. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her stepmother, Elizabeth Horning Chadwick; her husband, Lester Gahagan; a brother, Russell L. Chadwick; and two nephews, Russell and Richard Chadwick. She is survived by the following nieces and nephews: Gerry Ruff and her husband, Glenn, of Greensburg, Nancy Shricker of North Versailles and Shirley Bengel and her husband, Robert, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and 13 great-nieces and -nephews. Lawrence L. Harrold, 69, of Cape Coral, Fla., and New Stanton, formerly of Foxtown, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, in Florida. He was born Dec. 19, 1930, in Greensburg, a son of the late George W.E. and Elsie Bish Harrold. He was an active member of Assembly of God Church, New Stanton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lawrence Harrold; and two brothers , Elsworth "Slim" Harrold and Ivan Harrold. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley M. (Tobias) Harrold; two daughters , Susan Turner of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Mrs. Jim (Debra) Ciampini of Youngwood; a son, David Harrold and wife, Kim, of North Fort Myers, Fla.; eight grandchildren; seven brothers , Francis Harrold of Orange Lake, Fla., William Harrold of Ocala, Fla., John Harrold of Hunker, Clifford Harrold of Greensburg, Kenneth Harrold of Greensburg, Leonard Harrold of Latrobe, and Raymond Harrold of Hitchcock; a sister, Kathy DeAugustine of Greensburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. Frank Hasychak, 76, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at his home. He was born April 24, 1924, in Slickville, a son of the late Dmytro and Catherine Minnich Hasychak. Prior to retirement, he had been a production foreman for the Helen Mining Co. of Homer City. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Greensburg, the American Legion Post 318 of Slickville and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers , Nicholas and Michael Hasychak; two nephews, Charles A. Hasychak and Paul Toth Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Paul Toth Sr. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean (Stepic) Hasychak; a son, Michael L. and his wife, Patti (Susko) Hasychak, of Greensburg; two grandsons, Brian Michael and Zachary James Hasychak; a brother, Charles and his wife, Mary Hasychak, of Slickville; two sisters , Ann Toth of Leechburg and Sophie and her husband, Anthony Petrosky, of Slickville; two sisters -in-law, Margaret Hasychak of Slickville and Sumiyo Hasychak of Marina, Calif.; three brothers -in-law, Eugene and his wife, Evelyn Stepic, of Monaca, Michael and his wife, Marge Stepic, and Mark and his wife, Dorothy Stepic, all of Export; and several nieces and nephews. ETHEL L. MEININGER
Ethel L. Meininger, 88, of Latrobe, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 13, 2000. She was born Feb. 15, 1912, in Braddock, a daughter of the late Carl G. and Hulda (Larson) Edstrom. Ethel was a member of the Latrobe First Church of God. Prior to her retirement in 1974, she was the office manager for Field Enterprises Educational Publishing in Latrobe and Pittsburgh. Ethel was also a member of the Latrobe Art Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Meininger, in 1970; two brothers , Albin and Albert Edstrom; and her sister, Hildur Edstrom. She is survived by two daughters , Marianne M. Anderson and her husband, David Kolm, of Alexandria, Va., and Carolyn J. Walker and her husband, Roy, of Stokesdale, N.C.; a brother, Walter Edstrom of Barefoot Bay, Fla.; three granddaughters, Susan and Janice Anderson and Pamela Kelly Clark; numerous loving nieces and nephews; and several faithful friends. CLARA ETTA FOX MENSCH
Clara Etta Fox Mensch, 85, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born July 14, 1914, in Middletown, a daughter of the late Ira and Lovina Henry Fox. She was retired from the Mensch's Grocery Store in Swede Hill and was a life member of the Middletown United Methodist Church, where she was a former secretary and former Sunday school teacher and a member of the W.C.T.U. Clara was the first president of the graduating class at Harrold's Junior High School. She was preceded in death, besides her parents, by her husband, Ralph C. Mensch; sisters , Catherine Trenney, Ellen Fox, Olive Baum, Florence Steiner and Lucy Altman; and a brother, the Rev. Charles J. Fox. She is survived by her children, Daniel C. Mensch and his wife, Rozella, of Greensburg and Kathleen Giles and her husband, Tom, of Greensburg; brother, Ira Fox of Dauphin; and sisters , Ruth Woodward of Middletown, Hilda Riddle of California and Emma Baird of Greensburg. Also survived by four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ross Giles and Rachel and Daniel Mensch; two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Riley; and several nieces and nephews. Andrew A. Nocleg, 82, of McCandless Township, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at his residence. He was born April 14, 1918, in Lorain, Ohio, a son of the late Stanley and Victoria Pieklo Nocleg. He was a retired design draftsman at U.S. Steel Corp. for 35 years. He is survived by his wife, Annette Kapucinski Nocleg; two daughters , Patricia A. Nocleg of McCandless Township and Deborah Nocleg of Plum Borough and her fiance, Rob McBride; two sons , Dr. Daniel A. (Donna) Nocleg of Bowling Green, Ohio, and William A. (Leslie) Nocleg of Troy Hill; a sister, Joan Bailey of Ohio; and grandchildren, Bryan, Randall, David, and Timothy Nocleg. He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Brosky. WILLIAM M. RAFFERTY
William M. Rafferty, 88, of Latrobe; Father of eight, civic leader, teacher, coach and mentor to thousands of students, athletes, teachers and other coaches, passed into the next life Tuesday evening, June 13, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Aug. 31, 1911, on Raccoon Run in Camden, W.Va., the seventh of eight children of the late William and Maryann Cummings Rafferty. He earned the Rexall trophy for outstanding athlete from Weston West Virginia High School. He attended Glenville State Teachers College and Duquesne University where he played football for Elmer Layden, and was a member of the Iron Dukes basketball team. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry from St. Vincent College in 1935, where he starred as a tackle in football. He was awarded an honorary doctor of education degree from St. Vincent College in 1995. He taught the spectrum of math and science courses in the St. Vincent Preparatory School from 1935 to 1971 where he also coached football and basketball. He was an assistant football and basketball coach for St. Vincent College. He was awarded the SVC Letterman of Distinction Award in 1966 and was inducted into the Westmoreland County Sports Hall of Fame in 1980. He was assistant professor in the education department of the college from 1971 to 1976, responsible for student teacher supervision. During World War II, he worked a second job at Acme-Die Machine Company as an ammunition production supervisor for which he was awarded a Civilian Distinguished Service Medal. Other second jobs he held were at the Kennametal chemistry lab and the Rolling Rock Brewery. A few of his civic accomplishments included 12 years as a Latrobe Borough councilman, where he chaired the Loyalhanna Flood Control Project. He also headed the Urban Renewal Committee, the Finance Committee, Code Enforcement, the Police Committee, and was head of the Civil Service Commission. His committee was credited with the work that led to the creation of the Legion Keener Recreational Complex. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, M. Lorraine (Anderson) Rafferty; a son, Thomas K. Rafferty, D.D.S.; a grandson, Michael R. Rafferty; three brothers , James T. Rafferty, Michael A. Rafferty, M.D., and Daniel T. Rafferty; two sisters , Mary Irene Rafferty and Sister Agnes Regina Rafferty (Maryknoll Missioner); and a son-in-law, John Bruno. He is survived by six sons , William and his wife, Shirley, of Warren, Mich., Daniel and his wife, Bonnie, of Latrobe, Patrick and his wife, Karen, of Irwin, Dennis and his wife, Kathy, of Latrobe, Bernard and his wife, Theresa, of Latrobe, and Edward and his wife, Pamela, of Peters Township; a daughter, Regina Louise Bruno of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, with a fifth great-grandchild expected in November; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent Archabbey Basilica with the Right Rev. Archabbot Douglas Nowicki as the principal celebrant. Interment will be private.
