Miriam Elizabeth (Parmer) Beltz, 92, of Latrobe, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born May 20, 1909, in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Elias W. and Dora (Tilbrook) Parmer. She was a member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl D. Beltz, on Nov. 7, 1967; two brothers, Roy D. Palmer and Raymond E. Parmer; and two sisters, Dorothy M. Parmer and Mary Katherine (Parmer) Mattern. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. John D. (Dolores) Angus of Greensburg; her son, Robert J. Beltz and his wife, Rhona, of Latrobe; her sister, Edith Breen and husband, William, of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Carol Lynn Wood and husband, James, of East Liverpool, Ohio, John J. Angus and wife, Cheryl, of Latrobe, Glenn E. Beltz and wife, Danielle, of Goleta, Calif., David J. Beltz of Pittsburgh, and Allison J. Butcher and husband, Gary, of Redmond, Wash.; and four great-grandchildren, Jennifer L. Wood and James ``Jimmy" Wood, both of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Chelsea R. Angus and John Jayson Angus, both of Latrobe. Friends will be received in the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Unity Chapel, Unity Township, with the Rev. Adam Bononi Jr., 76, of Greensburg RD12, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born May 14, 1925, in Forbes Road, a son of the late Adam Sr. and Savina Barnabovi Bononi. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by the Overly Manufacturing Company, Greensburg. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Greensburg, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Sofaly and Sylvia Mahoney; and a brother, Albert Bononi. He is survived by his wife, Julia T. Ross Bononi; a son, Bruce A. and his wife, Shelley Bononi, of Greensburg; two daughters, Janice C. and her husband, Donald P. D'Aniello, of Latrobe and Darleen J. Bononi of Youngstown; two grandchildren, Aaron P. and Brianne J. D'Aniello; two sisters, Emma J. Walton of Greensburg and Elizabeth Marshall of Las Vegas, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews. Janice L. Boben, age 63, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, in her home. Born Oct. 23, 1937, in McKeesport, the daughter of the late James and Alice Moore Patterson. Mrs. Boben was a registered nurse at UPMC Passavant, McCandless. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth G. Boben Sr., whom she married April 26, 1958; two daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Kimberly) Confer of Cranberry Twp. and Karen McElhinny of Freedom; a son, Kenneth G. Boben Jr. of Evans City; three brothers, James Patterson of Tacoma, Wash., Thomas Patterson of Irwin and Robert Patterson of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Mrs. Michael (Joyce) Blasko of Irwin and Joanne Arway of Pleasant Gap, Pa.; also five grandchildren. Herbert H. ``Babe" Bowman, 67, of Latrobe, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1933, in Mt. Pleasant Township, a son of the late Robert and Lydia (Creighton) Bowman. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Teledyne Vasco, Latrobe. He was a member of the Latrobe United Methodist Church, Unity Township American Legion Post 982, Pleasant Unity VFW Post 8643, Cooperstown Vets and the Frontier Club of Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; a brother, Robert Bowman; and a sister, Gerry Collins. He is survived by his wife, Gloria G. ``Dixie" (Snyder) Bowman; two children, Terri Davis and husband, Leroy, of Latrobe RD8 and Roger A. Mrs. Droboty was a retired seamstress and owned and operated Alexander's Tailoring Shop with her late husband for many years. She was the beloved wife of the late Alexander Droboty; mother of Thomas P. Kunsak and the late John F. Kunsak. She was born May 25, 1905, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Paul and Helen Leeches. Anna was a salesperson for the former Gillespie's Department Store in Jeannette. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church, Greensburg, and its Rosary Altar Society and a former member of Sacred Heart Church of Jeannette and its Rosary Altar Society. Anna also was a former member of the Catholic daughters of America. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles Gallena, in 1971; two sisters, Elva Miller and Nellie Stevens; and six brothers, Steve, Andrew, Peter, Michael, Walter and Charles Leeches. She is survived by three daughters, Stella Taylor and husband, Donald, of Jeannette, Helen Gallena of Greensburg and Marian Myers and husband, Alfred, of Latrobe; a brother, James Leeches of Greensburg; three sisters, Pearl Leeches of San Francisco, Calif., Lillian Meyer of Kirkland, Wash., and Mary Rodman of Laguna Woods, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Michael Taylor, Marcia Dent, Mary Beth Bohn, David and Richard Myers, Karen Giacometti, John and Edward Myers and Julie Bisi; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Homer Huhn Jr., 83, of Latrobe, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born June 3, 1918, in Uniontown, a son of the late Homer and Nellie (Hostetler) Huhn. Homer was a 1938 graduate of the former Hearst High School in Mt. Pleasant Twp. and attended Pennsylvania State University. He owned and operated a textile service firm in Mt. Pleasant until 1955, when he became tax clerk of Westmoreland County, where he established the county's first mechanized tax writing system. He became chief clerk and secretary to the Board of County Commissioners in 1964 and the board's administrative assistant in 1968. He also served as vice chairman of the Westmoreland County Municipal Water Authority, organized and served as president of the State Association of County Clerks and County Commissioners and was a member of the State Association of Secretaries. Homer was very active with the Benevolent and Protective Order of EIks, beginning with his initiation into the Mt. Pleasant B.P.O.E. Lodge 868 in 1941, being elected Exalted Ruler of the lodge in 1952, serving as trustee until 1955 and then lodge secretary for 11 years. He then became active in the Pennsylvania State Elks Association, serving as district treasurer, district president and chairman of the District Advisory Committee. He was elected president of the Pennsylvania State Elks Association in 1964 and became State Association secretary in 1966. In 1971, Homer was named to the position of grand secretary of the National Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, serving over 1.6 million members. He continued in that function until 1977, when he was elected leader of the order, Grand Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America. Locally, Homer was a member of the Charter Oak United Methodist Church, Unity Twp., Marion Lodge 562, F&AM in Scottdale and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 386. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Mertz. He is survived by his loving wife of over 59 years, Josephine (Hydock) Huhn; a brother, Herman Huhn and his wife Louise of Latrobe; three sisters, Ella Mae Tepper and her husband Tom of Latrobe, Mable Watson and her husband Charles of Toms River, N.J., and Roberta Elleard of Richmond, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Jamison was the proprietor of Jamison Design Services. He was active in Over 40 Men's Soccer League and was a high school soccer referee for WPIAL. He was a member of Elizabeth Forward Area Community Chorus, Society of Mechanical Engineers and was a licensed pilot. He is survived by his wife, Lynn (Nesteruk) Jamison; his mother, Eileen Jamison of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Scott Q. Jamison of Mt. Vernon and David A. She was born July 4, 1918, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Clyde Leacock and Pearl Eldora Boggs Mansfield. She was a member of the Greensburg Church of the Brethren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard H. Johnson; a daughter, Helen Louise Johnson; a brother, Glenn Leacock; and a sister, Betty Mansfield Miller. Surviving are two daughters, Yvonne Berta of Liberty Borough and Susan Dworek of Penn; a son, James H. Birger Lawrence Johnson Jr., 87, of 66 Forest Road, Asheville, N.C., died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, in Mission Hospital. He was born in Chicago and raised in New York City. Mr. Johnson prepared for college at the Taft School in Watertown, Conn. He attended Yale University, where he was a member of Berkeley College and St. Elmo, and graduated in 1937 with a degree in metallurgical engineering. He worked for Mack Truck, General Electric and Latrobe Timken Steel Co. as a metallurgist until he retired in 1984. He was a resident of Ligonier for 40 years until 1993, when he moved to Asheville to live with his son. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Deines Johnson; a son, Birger L. Johnson III; and a daughter, Karin Johnson Giltner. He is survived by his half brother, Gordon Johnson and wife Fran of Connellsville; his half sister, Carol Pernu of California; his son, Bruce Johnson and wife Linda of Asheville; his grandchildren, Ingrid G. Crawley and husband Peter, Hilde and Gus Giltner, Keli and Matthew Johnson; and his great-grandchildren, Liam and Solene Crawley. Birger will be remembered best for his love and skill of gardening and snow skiing and for developing friendships of all ages. He started skiing in Massachusetts in 1939, before the use of powered lifts, and continued every season until 1999, teaching many generations of children along the way. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, at 4 p.m. in St. Michael's of the Valley Episcopal Church, Rector. The family will greet friends at the church after the service.
