Helen M. Schell

MILTON — Helen M. Schell, 85, a resident of Kramm Healthcare, Milton, and formerly of Fernville and Hepburn Street, Milton, died Saturday evening, May 3, 2008, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born May 7, 1922, in Milton, she was the daughter of the late Raymond B. and Ethel (Mincemoyer) Shultz.
Her husband of 63 years, Clair E. Schell, died in 2005.
Mrs. Schell worked at the Silk Mill, Bloomsburg, and Fox Knapp, Milton, as a seamstress until 1958.
She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Chris, Milton.
Mrs. Schell was a member of the Quad Man Club for the handicapped.
She enjoyed collecting antiques, attending flea markets, collecting post cards, visiting family and babysitting.
Mrs. Schell is survived by two  daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra R. and Peter Godfrey of Milton and Carol A. Schell and her friend Jane Richardson of Marysville, Ohio; two grandchildren, Traci K. Ferguson and Craig P. Godfrey and his fiance Lisa Bauman; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Bloss of Catawissa and Marge Dunkan of Selinsgrove; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul C. Shultz in 1960.
Visitors may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Lewisburg.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. John H. Shaw III officiating. Burial will be in Milton cemetery.
The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Opal J. Hollenbach

LEWISBURG — Opal J. Hollenbach, 81, of Lewisburg, died Sunday, June 22, 2008, in Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
Born Sept. 1, 1926, in Scotland, South Dakota, she was a daughter of the late Stover and Mary (Stover) Hess.
She and her husband, Donald E. Hollenbach, were married Jan. 16, 1947. He died April 16, 2007.
Mrs. Hollenbach first worked for Westinghouse in Sunbury and then went to work for Canteen Vending Co., where she stocked the machines at Chef Boyardee until leaving to raise her son, Dean. She later worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken, Lewisburg, and as a laborer at American Home Foods, Milton.
She attended the Mifflinburg Church of the Nazarene.
Mrs. Hollenbach enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Sara Hollenbach of West Milton; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Betty Hess of Millmont; a sister, Doris Shively of Millmont; and two grandsons, Stone J. Hollenbach and Dean J. Hollenbach, both of West Milton.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Wert; and a brother, Ray Hess.
Visitors may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday in the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Wayne Krell, pastor of Mifflinburg Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will follow in Lewisburg cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, Lycoming Unit, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, Pa. 17701.

Helen A. Englehart

Helen Augusta Englehart, 89, a resident of RiverWoods, Lewisburg, since 2006, and formerly of 100 Rudy Lane, Mifflinburg, died at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2008, in the nursing home.
Born Jan. 23, 1919, in Lewis Township, Union County, she was the youngest daughter of the late Charles and Flora (Harden) Rudy.
She and her husband of 60 years, Dale A. Englehart, were married April 10, 1935. He died Dec. 26, 1995.
Mrs. Englehart attended the Salem School, rural Mifflinburg, and was a former member of the Pleasant Grove Evangelical Church, rural Mifflinburg. In later years, as her health permitted, she attended Hillside Bible Church, Mifflinburg, and then services at RiverWoods.
She was a housewife and enjoyed watching inspirational programs, gospel music, crocheting and planting flowers.
She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as her cat. Earlier in life, she played the guitar and sang with a group of relatives and friends.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jacquita D. “Jacquie” and Kenneth W. Peachey of Mifflinburg; four grandchildren, Gregg Peachey and his wife Brenda of Mifflinburg, Tracy Heimbach and her husband Mervin of Selinsgrove, Kelly Peachey of Mifflinburg and Kerry Nornhold and her husband Kyle of Mifflinburg; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Wallace Rudy; and seven sisters, Ruth Rudy, Viola Wallace, Carrie Reeder, Sarah Sheesley, Margaret Hackenberg, Mary Tyson and Grace Englehart. She was the last of her immediate family.
Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel at Schwartz-Adamo Funeral Services, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev Ned L. Knisely officiating. Interment will be in Ray’s Church cemetery, Mifflinburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hillside Bible Church, 1650 Centennial Road, Mifflinburg, Pa. 17844 or to The Gideon’s International Bible (Memorial Bible Fund) P.O. Box 147, Milton, Pa. 17847.

Norman D. Kouf

MIFFLINBURG — Norman D. Kouf, 86, of 174 Baker Hollow Road, Mifflinburg, died at 3:56 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2008, in his home.
Born July 26, 1921, in Ithaca, N.Y., he was the son of the late Norman V. and Emma (Hoffman) Kouf.
He and his wife, the former Esther M. McFall, were married Aug. 30, 1940, in Enfield Center, N.Y. She survives.
Mr. Kouf served in the U.S. Army from March 21, 1945, until being honorably discharged Dec. 7, 1946.
He retired in 1984 as the service manger at Agway, Lewisburg.
Mr. Kouf enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Melvin D. Kouf of Flemington; two  daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce M. and James Harding of Beaver Springs and Janice E. and Jeffrey Killian of New Columbia; a brother and sister-in-law, David E. and Cil Kouf of Lansing, N.Y.; a sister, Lorraine Goodman of Ithaca, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Kouf was preceded in death by three sisters, Winefred Frankenstien, Francis Beach and Vivian Quakenbush.
Private services will be at the family’s convenience.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s local hospice.
Arrangements are under the care of the Schwartz-Adamo Funeral and Cremation Services, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg.

Ammon J. Loss

ELIZABETHVILLE — Ammon J. Loss, 81, a resident of Kepler Nursing Home, Elizabethville, since Dec. 4, 2007, and formerly of Hartleton, died at 4:20 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2008, in the nursing home.
Born March 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Elmer Loss.
His wife, the former Geraldine Feese, preceded him in death.
Mr. Loss retired from Bucknell University after working many years in the maintenance department. He also owned and operated a garbage disposal business.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Loss is survived by two  daughters, Ruth Shemory and Sylvia Long; two stepsons, David Frederick and Mark Loss; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and  Father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Hanselman.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Hartleton cemetery, Route 45, with Pastor Henry Dorman officiating.
Arrangements are under the care of Roupp Funeral Home, 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg.

Donald F. Sherman Sr.

Donald F. Sherman Sr., 96, of 468 Brouse Road, Montgomery, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, in the Williamsport Hospital.
Born Oct. 10, 1911, in Dewart, he was a son of the late Floyd and Myrtle (Hayes) Sherman.
He and his wife of 72 years, the former Rebecca Elizabeth DeWald, were married Oct. 19, 1935.
Mr. Sherman graduated from the former Montgomery-Clinton High School with the Class of 1929.
Mr. Sherman was a lifelong farmer, first farming in the Elimsport area, then along Route 405 in Montgomery and later at his farm on Brouse Road. He also worked as a watchman at the former Montgomery Mills and Grumman plants and served as an advisor for Sherman Beef Cattle.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran (Brick) Church, Montgomery.
Mr. Sherman had served as a Clinton Township supervisor, as a committeeman for the Farm Service Agency and he was a former member of the Eagle Grange.
He enjoyed playing the fiddle at area square dances, playing the banjo and ukulele and planting and growing flowers.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four  daughters and three sons-in-law, Liz Heilman of Muncy, Kay and Fred McCarty of Watsontown, Gail and Gary Kinney of Trail Creek, Ind., and Kathy and Herm Swartz of Milton; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Jr. and Connie Sherman of Muncy; 13 grandchildren, Peggy Batt, Debbie Bierly, John Heilman, David McCarty, Louella Rupert, Gary Kinney Jr., Robert Kinney, Scott Kinney, Michael Sherman, Melissa Ural, Colleen Swartz, Clinton Swartz and Beth Swartz; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Mary Ann Young; a grandson, Charles Donald Swartz; a great-great-grandson, Nickolas James Beaver; two brothers, Arthur Sherman and David Sherman; and four sisters, Martha Burrows, Mildred Graeff, Helen Wertman and Eleanor Mauck.
Visitors may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with his minister, Pastor Zachary Labagh, officiating.
Burial will follow in Montoursville cemetery.
The family welcomes flowers, however memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran (Brick) Church, 196 Brick Church Road, Montgomery, Pa. 17752.

Dorothy E. Miller

SELINSGROVE — Dorothy E. Miller, 83, of 718 Bogar Drive, Selinsgrove, died Wednesday, July 1, 2008, in Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
Born March 2, 1925, in Lewisburg, she was the daughter of Daniel and Dorothy (Deitrich) Danowsky.
Her husband of 51 years, Martin L. Miller, died June 20, 1998.
For the past seven years, Mrs. Miller enjoyed playing bingo and helping at the Northumberland County Area Agency on Aging in Coal Township.
She was a former member of the Ramblers Club.
Mrs. Miller is survived by a son, Roger Miller of rural Mifflinburg; two  daughters, Elaine Young of rural Lewisburg and Sherry Evans of Selinsgrove; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte Hartranft of New Columbia and Marlene Baker of West Milton; and four brothers, Wayne Danowsky of Harrisburg and Charlie Danowsky, Harold Danowsky and Franklin Danowsky, all of Lewisburg.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Bridge; a son, Larry Miller; two sisters, Phyllis Snyder and Evelyn Kratzer; and a brother, Arlon Danowsky.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, 801 Market St., Lewisburg, with the Rev. Ted Keating officiating. Interment will be in Mazeppa cemetery.
Friends and relatives will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Northumberland County Area Agency on Aging, 2145 Trevorton Road, Coal Township, Pa. 17866.

Ray H. Doan Jr.

MILLMONT — Ray Harold Doan Jr., 49, of 3300 Creek Road, Millmont, died Friday, May 2, 2008, due to injuries sustained in a work-related accident.
Born Sept. 17, 1958, in Coatesville, he was the son of Alice (Riley) Doan of Atglen and the late Ray H. Doan Sr.
He and his wife, the former Debra J. Lake, were married Oct. 13, 1984, in Coatesville.
Mr. Doan was employed by Advanced Concrete, Middleburg, for the past three years. He worked as a stone mason his entire career.
He was a member of the Union County Sportsmen’s Club and a former member of the West End Fire Company.
Mr. Doan enjoyed hunting, NASCAR and the Dallas Cowboys.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Brandon E. Doan of Millmont and Josh Doan of Philadelphia; two brothers, Donnie Doan of Exton and Stevie Doan of Atglen; and three sisters, Alice Ann Mayer of Monroe, N.C., Karen Doan of Atglen and Barbie Doan of Downingtown.
Visitors may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday in Christ’s United Lutheran Church, 13765 Old Turnpike Road, Millmont.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in the church with the Rev. John D. Yost officiating.

Linda C. Walter

MIFFLINBURG — Linda C. Walter, 64, of 695 Buffalo Creek Road, Mifflinburg, died at 7:53 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008, in Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
Born Jan. 31, 1944, in Millmont, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Grace (Dorman) Catherman.
She and her husband, Robert F. Walter, were married Oct. 4, 1963, in the United Methodist Church of Millmont.
Mrs. Walter graduated from Mifflinburg High School with the Class of 1962.
She assisted in the operation of the family business, B S & B Repair, Mifflinburg, from 1985 to her retirement in 2005.
Mrs. Walter attended Christ Community Church, Glen Iron, for the past 22 years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, crocheting, cooking and reading the Bible.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons and  daughters-in-law, Shawn F. and Cris M. Walter of Millmont and Brad F. and Angie L. Walter of Millmont; a daughter and son-in-law, Nikki L. and Adam J. Shemory of Mifflinburg; six grandchildren, Melissa Stahl and her husband Jason, Tyler Walter, Tanner F. Walter, Vanessa Walter, Morgan Shemory and Blake Shemory; a great-granddaughter, Reagan Stahl; two brothers, Stanley Catherman of Penns Creek and Glenn Catherman of California; three sisters, Jane Hendricks of Millmont, Jean Herrold of Hartleton and Norma Hackenberg of Millmont.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy and Neil Catherman; and two sisters, Phyllis Hursh and Dauna Hackenberg.
A private family viewing will be held Tuesday evening.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Christ Community Church, 2746 Route 235, Glen Iron, with the Rev. Henry Dorman, officiating.
Burial will be in Hartleton cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Christ Community Church, 2746 Route 235, Millmont, Pa. 17845.
Arrangements are under the care of the Schwartz-Adamo Funeral and Cremation Services, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg.

Mary Jane Runyan

Lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, Milton
MILTON — Mary Jane Runyan, 88, of Montour Street, Milton, died on Wednesday morning April 1, 2009, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg.
Born Aug. 10, 1920, in Milton, she was the daughter of the late Ammon and Catherine (Thomas) Hendricks. She was married to Randall L. “Doc” Runyan, who preceded her in death in 2000.
Mrs. Runyan graduated from Milton High School and worked at the Evangelical Community Hospital as a nurses assistant. She was a lifelong and active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed nature, watching birds, especially the cardinals, playing cards with friends, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two  daughters and sons-in-law, Melodee H. and Dr. John Persing of Lewisburg and Peggy K. and Willard “Doc” Simpler of rural New Columbia; five grandchildren, Wendee K. Bassinger, John R. Persing, Marc H. Persing, Jeffrey W. Simpler and Melissa K. Knecht; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth Hendricks, Chester Hendricks, Thomas Hendricks and Forrest Hendricks; and four sisters, Laura Hendershot, Gwendolyn Marko, Florence Hudson and Evelyn Meixell.
Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, Milton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Officiating will be the Rev. Stephen G. Shirk. Burial will be at the Harmony cemetery Milton.
Memorials in Mary Jane’s memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 255, Milton, Pa. 17847.
Arrangements are under the care of the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton.

LEWISBURG - A memorial service for Dennis Bower of Winfield, who died Aug. 9, 2003, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church, 51 S. Third St., Lewisburg, with Rev. Scott MacKenzie officiating.

Florence J. Hegarty

MILTON - Florence J. Hegarty, 86, a resident of Mountain View Care Center, Scranton, and formerly of Milton, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, in the nursing home.
