Galen S. Pope

WHITE DEER — Galen S. Pope, 71, of White Deer, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, in his home.
Born April 3, 1936, in Danville, he was the son of the late Michael and Gertrude (Smith) Pope.
He and his wife, the former Patricia M. Wright, were married June 25, 1966.
Mr. Pope graduated from the Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in New York.
He served in the U.S. Army during the 1950s.
Mr. Pope retired from the All American Truck Stop, Milton, where he had worked for five years. Earlier in life, he had worked for his  Father’s business, M.E. Pope Plumbing and Heating of the Mile Hill area of Sunbury and at Philco Corp., Watsontown.
He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, McEwensville.
Mr. Pope enjoyed watching western movies.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a stepmother, Rose M. Pope of Sunbury; three  daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa M. and Michael Everitt of Watsontown, Gaylynn and Don Hoover of Sunbury and Debra and Walter Reaser of Allenwood; seven grandchildren, Coty Everitt, Ashley, Brooke and Erica Thomas and Dylan, Nathaniel and Taylor Reaser; a brother, Marty Pope of Selinsgrove; a sister, Virginia “Ginny” Lucas of Lewisburg; two half brothers, Michael Pope Jr. of Northumberland and Rusty Onderdonk of Georgia; and two half sisters, Janice Pope of Bethlehem and Frances Reische of Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Reaser.
Visitors may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Friendship Baptist Church, McEwensville.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in the church with the Rev. Jerry Caswell officiating.
Burial will follow in Orchard Hills Memorial Park, Shamokin Dam.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical Home Hospice, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, Pa. 17837.
Arrangements are under the care of the Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main St., Watsontown.

Connie V. Peregoy

WATSONTOWN — Connie V. Peregoy, 74, a resident of Kramm Health and Rehabilitation Center, Watsontown, for the past few years, and formerly of Watsontown, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, in the nursing home.
Her husband of 46 years, the Rev. Donald Peregoy, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Peregoy was a homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter, Katrina Ann Peregoy of Watsontown.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine D. Peregoy.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Watsontown cemetery with the Rev. Douglas Eberly of Watsontown United Methodist Church officiating.
Arrangements are under the Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main St., Watsontown.

Robert E. Muffly

TURBOTVILLE — Robert E. Muffly, 85, of Continental Boulevard, Turbotville, died Friday, March 21, 2008, in his home.
Born Aug. 28, 1922, in Anthony Township, Montour County, he was the son of the late George T. and Tillie A. (Laidacker) Muffly.
He and his wife of 37 years, the former Mary Jane Hammer, were married Aug. 27, 1955. She died March 16, 1993.
Mr. Muffly was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.
He retired from Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation, wire rope division, Muncy.
Mr. Muffly was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Strawberry Ridge.
He was a member of the Wallace W. Fetzer Post 71 American Legion, Milton, and a life member of the Muffly Huff Post 8206, VFW, Turbotville, and the Sampson World War II Navy Veterans. He was also a member of the Washingtonville Fire Company, a 50-year member of Milton Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 171, Milton, and a member of North Montour Sportsmen’s Association.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising English setters, yard work, gardening, tending his fruit trees and Mets and Phillies baseball.
Mr. Muffly is survived by three nieces, Elaine Muffly of Painted Post, N.Y., Judy Bower of Danville and Lisa Alley of Big Flats, N.Y.; a nephew, William Muffly of Corning, N.Y.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Rowe; and three brothers, Dorrance, William and George W. Muffly.
Visitors may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday in Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Pastor Shawn McNett officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow in the old section of Turbotville cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Muffly-Huff Post 8206, VFW, P.O. Box 31, Turbotville, Pa. 17772.

Melody D. Baysore

Melody D. Baysore, 52, of Schenevus, N.Y., and formerly of Milton, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, in her home.
Born April 2, 1955, in Lewisburg, she was a daughter of the late Francis and V. Maxine (Burrows) Yoder.
She and her husband of 28 years, Lester C. Baysore, were married May 12, 1979.
Following graduation from Warrior Run High School in 1974, Mrs. Baysore went to work as an aide at the Blue Hill Nursing Home, Northumberland, for a short time. She then worked as a cabinet inspector with the former Zenith in Watsontown until the plant closed.
She attended the Twin Hills Church of the Nazarene, Muncy.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Melissa Ann Baysore of Mifflinburg; a son, Matthew Scott Baysore of Lewisburg; a granddaughter, Lailah Skyi Barto; a grandson, Anthony Caleb Baysore; one sister, Sharon Foltz of Sunbury; and three brothers, Barry Yoder of Lock Haven, Keith Yoder of Lewisburg and Merrill Yoder of Mifflinburg.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Mike Watson, pastor of the Twin Hills Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.

Mildred “Peg” Simon Michael

WATSONTOWN — Mildred “Peg” Simon Michael, 88, of rural Watsontown for the past 53 years, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, in Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
Born March 28, 1919, in Allenwood, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Hagenboch) Reeser.
Her first husband, Theodore W. Simon, died Sept. 26, 1962. Her second husband, Milo Michael, died March 10, 1975.
Mrs. Michael graduated from Watsontown High School with the Class of 1937.
She worked as a presser for Bobbie Brooks Garment Manufacturing Company, Montgomery, for 18 years until retiring in 1986. Following her retirement, she was a live-in housekeeper for three Watsontown area families who were receiving home nursing care.
Mrs. Michael was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Watsontown.
She was a member of the FOE 1208 Auxiliary, Milton, and the  daughters of America.
She enjoyed gardening and lawn care.
Mrs. Michael is survived by a son, Max Simon of St. Peters, Mo.; two  daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Jane Brinson of Montgomery and Helen and Arnold Weeks of Pinellas Park, Fla.; five stepchildren and their spouses, George and Tess Michael of Turbotville, Irvin and Patsy Michael of Muncy Valley, Clarence Michael of Hughesville and Eldora David and Eleanor Shoemaker, both of Muncy Valley; two brothers, Charles “Farmer” Reeser Jr. of Allenwood and Ned Reeser of Milton; three sisters, Catherine Rake formerly of Allenwood, Ruth Cotner of McEwensville and Hattie Fisher of Allenwood; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandsons.
In addition to her first and second husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, Brady Leroy Simon in 1947 and Charles Simon in 2002; a stepdaughter, Shirley Simon in 1975; a granddaughter, Hattie Lee Brinson in 1989; three brothers, Franklin, Donald and Paul Reeser; and two sisters, Martha Simon and Mary Katzmeair.
Visitors may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday in Trinity United Church of Christ, 602 Main St., Watsontown.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the church with her pastor, the Rev. Ed Henry, officiating.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Uniontown cemetery, Allenwood.
The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, Pa. 17102.
Arrangements are under the care of the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown.

Marian C. Earhart

MILTON — Marian C. (Emery) Earhart, 82, of Penn Street, Milton, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, in her home.
Born Nov. 3, 1925, in Milton, she was the daughter of the late John and Mildred (Dorman) Emery.
Her husband, John M. Earhart, died March 8, 2007.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Earhart was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Watsontown.
She was a member of the Milton Senior Center.
Mrs. Earhart enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Donna J. and Richard Jurkowski of Oxford, Conn.; a son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Diann Earhart of Milton; four grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Emery of Tampa, Fla.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister; and two brothers.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Evangelical Hospital, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, Pa. 17837, Attn. Hospice.
Arrangements are under the care of the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton.

Elwood J. Dale

MIFFLINBURG — Elwood J. “Woody” Dale, 87, of 121 Market St., Mifflinburg, died at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in Riverwoods, Lewisburg.
Born Jan. 15, 1921, in Millmont, he was the son of the late William O. and Mary (Wagner) Dale.
He and his wife, the former Emma Campbell, were married March 18, 1960, in the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church.
Mr. Dale graduated from Mifflinburg High School with the Class of 1938.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on Aug. 6, 1942. He was stationed in the Marshall Islands and earned the rank of staff sergeant. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 18, 1945.
Following his military tour of duty, he was employed at the state hospital in Laurelton. He was later employed at the Mifflinburg Body Co.
In the 1950s, he was hired by contractor Stan Seiple of Sunbury. He remained at the company as a construction foreman for 31 years, retiring in 1983.
Mr. Dale was particularly proud of being involved with the Mifflinburg Area High School building project.
He was a member of the Thomas H. Clapham American Legion Post 410, Mifflinburg; Yoder-Zimmerman VFW Post 1964, Mifflinburg; Buffalo Valley Sportsman Club; and the “Ponderosa” Hunting Club.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Dale is survived by two sisters, Rhelda Valentine and Mary Wehr, both of Mifflinburg; five sisters-in-law, Margaret “Margie” Dale of Gulfport, Fla., Mary Elizabeth Dale and Mary Ann Dale, both of Lewisburg, Connie Crook of New Berlin and Ruth Dennithorn of Coatesville; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Dale; and five brothers, Maxwell Dale, William Dale, Kenneth Dale, Kermit Dale and Paul Dale.
There will be no public viewing.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the Schwartz-Adamo Funeral and Cremation Services, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, with the Rev. Ronald Warfle officiating. Interment with military honors will be in East Side cemetery, Mifflinburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical Community Hospice, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, Pa. 17837.

Marion R. Meixell

LEWISBURG — Marion R. Meixell, 97, a resident of RiverWoods, Lewisburg, and formerly of Bloomsburg, died suddenly Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in the nursing home.
Born July 6, 1910, in Fairmount Springs, she was the daughter of the late Torrance A. and Catherine E. (Hazeltine) Meixell.
Ms. Meixell graduated from Scott Township High School and Bloomsburg State Teacher’s College.
She taught in the Philadelphia area for a number of years.
Ms. Meixell was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Espy, and Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg.
She is survived by two nieces, Ann F. Diseroad of Bloomsburg; and Barbara Nuernberger of Jacksonville, Fla.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers; and two sisters.
Arrangements are under the care of the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.

George J. Kicska

MILTON — George J. Kicska, 33, of Milton, died Sunday, April 27, 2008, in Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
Born in Fountain Hill, he was a son of the late Paul and Frances (Zimmerman) Kicska.
He worked as a cook, most recently for the Bull Run Inn, Lewisburg, and enjoyed hunting and fishing and being outdoors.
He is survived by a brother, Paul Kicska of Schnecksville; two sisters, Cynthia Yost of Southampton and Vilma Hamburg of Walnutport.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Holy Savior cemetery, 2575 Linden St., Bethlehem.
Memorial contributions can be made to American Kidney Foundation, 111 S. Independence Mall, E 411, Philadelphia, Pa. 19106-2515.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem.

Enos D. Miller

MIFFLINBURG — Enos D. Miller, 92, of 165 Wirth Road, Mifflinburg, for the past 20 years, and formerly of Limestone Township, died at 12:23 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008, in his home.
Born July 2, 1915, in Dover, Del., he was the son of the late David and Elizabeth (Christner) Miller.
He and his wife, the former Sadie Y. Mast, were married Sept. 19, 1935. She died Oct. 26, 1986.
Mr. Miller operated a blacksmith shop on Eighth Street in Mifflinburg in 1962. He then was employed at the Mifflinburg Farmer’s Exchange and was a taxi driver for many years.
He was a member of the Shady Grove Christian Fellowship.
Mr. Miller enjoyed woodworking and built over 20 grandfather clocks. He completed the construction of his last clock in 2004.
He is survived by seven sons and  daughters-in-law, Joe and Cora Miller, Dan and Anna Miller, Allen and Naomi Miller, all of Mifflinburg, Willie and Martha Miller of Richmond, Mo., David and Anna Miller of Millmont, Ray and Irene Miller of Wytheville, Va., and Mervin and Frances Miller of Mifflinburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Susanna and John Miller of Mifflinburg; 53 grandchildren; 130 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by was a daughter, Elizabeth; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitors may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Shady Grove Christian Fellowship, 5327 Buffalo Road, Mifflinburg.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in the church with ministers Dave King, Simon Bender and Lewis Hoover officiating. Burial will be in the Vicksburg Mennonite Church cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of Roupp Funeral Home, 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg.

Andrew B. Miller

Andrew B. “Andy” Miller, 53, of Pennsylvania Avenue, Watsontown, died Friday, May 9, 2008, in the emergency room of Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
Born March 19, 1955, in Turbotville, he was the son of the late Harry S. and Gladys M. (Golder) Miller.
He and his wife, the former Cindy L. Wertz, were married Nov. 24, 1973.
Mr. Miller graduated from Warrior Run High School with the Class of 1973.
He had worked for Interstate Trucking and most recently at Furman Foods, Northumberland.
Mr. Miller enjoyed softball and baseball and had played baseball in high school. Following graduation, he played with a fast-pitch softball team in Milton. He had been a coach for Little League in Watsontown for nearly eight years and also umpired the senior division. While his sons both played baseball at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus, he helped there as an assistant coach. Mr. Miller also enjoyed the Phillies, Dallas Cowboys and Penn State.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott A. and Charity Miller and Todd M. Miller, all of Watsontown; three grandchildren, Jared, Haley and Ryan Miller; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cindy and Ronald Lewis of Dewart and Amy and Randal Hart of Allenwood; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Timothy and Penny Miller and Thomas and Tracy Miller, all of Turbotville.
Visitors may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday in Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main St., Watsontown.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. David King of Grace Baptist Church of West Milton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Warrior Run Athletic Association, 4800 Susquehanna Trail, Turbotville, Pa. 17772.
