Edward "Ted" Rose, 71, of Dunbar, died Sunday, June 11, at Highlands Hospital, Connellsville. Born Dec. 14, 1928, in Dunbar, a son of the late Frank and Anna Domenick Rose. He was a retired equipment operator at Rose Equipment Co. and was of the Catholic faith. Also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Rose; and brothers , Louie Rose and John Rose. Survived by his wife, Elsie Jane Hiles Rose; daughters , Brenda Rose and Patti Rose, both of Dunbar; sons , Terry Rose and wife, Mary, of Dunbar and Tommy Rose and wife, Kathy, of Connellsville; sisters and brothers , Florence Cope, Guy Rose, Mary Hughes, and Lawrence Rose, all of Dunbar; grandchildren, Tammy Golden Tishman and husband, Brent, Darla LaManna Gavlak and husband, Matthew, Tara Rose, Jeremy Rose, and Justin Rose; and two great-grandchildren, Devon and Ryan LaManna. Margaret (Hardin) Rosevitik, 76, formerly of Level Green and Harrison City, died Saturday, June 10, 2000. A daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Sayka) Hardin. Wife of the late Paul Rosevitik. Beloved mother of Paula (Harry) Kubrick and Ronald (Debbie) Rosevitik. Dear grandmother of Karin and Kelly Kubrick and Kylee Rosevitik. Sister of Dorothy Volpe and Irene Yager. Also nieces and nephews. GEORGE B. SMITH
George B. Smith, 63, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, at Shadyside Hospital. Born in McKeesport, June 22, 1936. He resided in McKeesport. He was employed for 38 ½ years at Westinghouse, first in East Pittsburgh, then Large, Pa., and finally with the former Westinghouse Telecomputer Center in Braddock Hills, where he retired in 1994 as a manager. He was in the Naval Reserves. Son of the late George W. and Elsa Burgeson Smith. Survived by his wife, Barbara Kossuth Smith; four sons , George S. Smith of Penn Hills, Mark Robert Smith of North Huntingdon, Rodger Alan Smith of Frederick, Md., and Brian Glenn Smith of Liberty Borough; and five grandchildren. Friends will be received at STRIFFLERS' OF WHITE OAK Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. with Father John J. PETER WESLEY STEAR
Peter Wesley Stear, 49, of Laughlintown, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Aug. 23, 1950, in Greensburg, a son of Marion Ruth Krough Stear and the late Luther Wesley Stear. In addition to his Father , he was preceded in death by maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen B. Zwipf Stear; a daughter, Simone L. Stear-Zwipf at home; a stepdaughter, Mia M. Vallozzi at home; a stepgranddaughter, Devin Tomko Vallozzi; two sisters , Mrs. Donald (Donna) McCarty of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. Charles (Laurie) Lewis of South Charleston, W.Va.; a brother, Russell (and his wife Melanie Embrey) Stear of Centerville, Va.; and a niece, Phalen Stear. Pete departed this life after a valiant and courageous battle to explore new territory. He was a free spirit, always an adventurer/explorer. Whether it be mountain biking in Montana, hiking and canoeing at Pine Park, skiing and hunting the Laurel Mountains or ocean boating around Cape Cod or the Chesapeake, he was the captain of his ship until the last. He was a self-employed custom home builder and master of his trade. He was a member of the Laughlintown Protective Association and the Laughlintown Recreation Society. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He will be greatly missed by his family and many dear friends. Friends will be received Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the J. MARGARET A. THORNE
Margaret A. "Peggy" Thorne, 78, of West Newton, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born Sept. 27, 1921, in Donora, a daughter of the late Lehr and Margaret Alice Cochenour Jones. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, West Newton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank "Juba" Thorne in 1991; a sister, Carolyn Swank; and an infant son, Baby Thorne. Survivors include two sons , Jack Thorne and wife, Linda, and Arthur Thorne and wife, Cindy, all of West Newton; a daughter, Sherri Frazier and husband, Gregory, of Mt. Pleasant; three grandchildren, Kimberly Jones, Kelly Perssel and Stacy Frazier; and a great-grandson, Ethan Jones. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. JUDITH ANN (KERN) VELTRI
Judith Ann (Kern) Veltri, 71, of Vandergrift, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in the Armstrong County Health Care Center, Kittanning. She was born Dec. 17, 1928, in Ford City, the daughter of the late Martha (Shedwick) Kern. She lived in Vandergrift most of her life. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vandergrift. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony L. Veltri in 1972; and a daughter, Roxanne M. King in 1990. Survivors include a son, Mark A. Veltri of Ford City; two daughters , Mrs. Frank (Terri) Genovese of Kittanning and Mrs. Greg (Melonie) Poydence of Vandergrift; eight grandchildren, Christy Harlow, Matthew and Samantha King, Gabrielle and Roxanne Genovese, Brent Veltri, and Luke and Frank Poydence; and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Hunter Harlow. William F. Wellington Sr., 81, of Jacobs Creek, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at his residence. He was born June 4, 1919, in Somerset, a son of the late Charles and Alice Hare Wellington. He was a retired coal miner having worked for Republic Steel Banning Mine. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. Survived by his wife, Irene "Midge" Lindway Wellington, to whom he was married for 35 years; three daughters , Jean Boardway and husband, William, Alice Griffin and husband, Gary, and Patricia McCarthy and husband, Daniel; and a son, William Jr. and wife, Bonnie, all of western New York state; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Schultz; a brother, Jack Wellington; and a number of nieces and nephews. Also survived by a stepdaughter, Alberta Angelo and husband, Don, of Brownsville; a stepgrandson, Eddy Balas and great-grandson, Brian Balas, of Denbo, Pa.; two stepgranddaughters, Kathy Tippie and two great-grandsons, Paul Lough and Donald Lough, of Parma, Ohio, and Kim Black and two great-grandsons, Richard Black and Steven Moody, of Brownsville. DANIEL J. YANIRO SR.
Daniel J. Yaniro Sr., 70, of Southwest Greensburg, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Southwest Greensburg, a son of the late John and Lucy Antonucci Yaniro. Prior to retirement, he had been the owner and operator of The Donut Shoppe on South Main Street, Greensburg. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the
Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Patsy Yaniro and a sister, Ginger McCaulley. He is survived by his wife, Faye A. Andrews Yaniro; two sons , Daniel J. Jr. and his wife, Beth Yaniro, of Freehold, N.J., and Jeffrey A. and his wife, Robbin Yaniro, of South Greensburg; a grandson, Vincent A. Yaniro; a sister, Carmella and her husband, Leonard Zaleski, of Moon Township; and several nieces and nephews. Benjamin C. "Benny" Beal, 88, of Connellsville, passed away Friday, June 9, 2000, at Highlands Hospital, Connellsville. Friends will be received at the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday in the Albright United Methodist Church, 1626 S. Leslie D. Detar, 69, of Adamsburg, died Friday, June 9, 2000, at home. He was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Irwin, a son of the late Chester Detar and Sara Ritson Detar McClintock Wisser. He was employed as a greenskeeper for Westmoreland Country Club. He was a member of Brush Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hempfield Township, and the Collier Hunting Camp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Saddler. He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Oplinger Detar; two sons , James L. Detar of Dover, Pa., and Richard A. Detar of Lancaster; a daughter, Kathleen A. Kunkle of Greensburg; three grandchildren, Tiffanie, Timothy and Nicole Kunkle; a sister, Donna Lauffer of Elyria, Ohio; three half sisters , Patty Jones, Faye Tiech and Norma Griffin, all of Ohio; a half brother, Norman "Dan" Detar of Oklahoma ; also nieces and nephews. NANCY RUTH MARTINI DIERS
Nancy Ruth Martini Diers, 46, of Bakersfield, Calif., died Sunday, June 4, 2000. She was born April 16, 1954, the daughter of Fred "Nundo" and June Condo Martini of Penn Township. She was employed by Wesco Inc. in Bakersfield, Calif., and was a graduate of Penn-Trafford High School in 1973. She was preceded in death by a brother, Rick Martini, in 1991. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandmother, Ruth Condo of Jeannette; two sons , Beau and Brandon Diers of Fremont, Neb.; two brothers , Jimmy Joe and wife, Carol Martini, of Jeannette and Mark and wife, Judi Martini, of Penn Township; and nieces, Juliann Martini and Brenda Veverka of Jeannette and Stephanie and Lara Martini of Penn Township. A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.
DAVID CHARLES GEIGER
David Charles "Red" Geiger, 65, of Pitcairn, died Saturday afternoon, June 10, 2000, at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born Nov. 22, 1934, in Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind., a son of the late Oliver Mark and Anna Louise Bowerman Geiger. On June 30, 1962, he married Margaret "Peggie" McKenzie. She survives, along with a daughter, Susan Elaine, married to Mark Bogonovich of Pitcairn. He is also survived by a brother, Bernard Geiger of Denver, Colo. Mr. Geiger was a member and sexton of The First Baptist Church of Pitcairn and subsequently a member of the First Baptist Church of Monroeville. Mr. Geiger was a 35 year employee of Backus (Ford) Motor Co. of Pitcairn. There will be visitation Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the WM. O. PEARCE FUNERAL HOME INC., 318 Wall Ave., Pitcairn, where services will be held at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Rudy Mayak officiating. Entombment will be in the Penn-Lincoln Mausoleum.
CLYDE E. JONES
Clyde E. Jones, 83, of Norvelt, died Friday, June 9, 2000, at his home. He was born March 8, 1917, in Whitney, a son of the late Alvy and Emma Lisbon Jones. He was a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ, Greensburg, and a past member of the Laryngectomy Club. He retired in 1979 from the Elliott Co., Jeannette. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters , Bessie Sherrow, Freda Verneau and Hetty Bell Jones; and two brothers , David and Donald Jones. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Porterfield Jones of Norvelt; two daughters , Sharon Smith and Hope Jones (and William Dempsey), all of Norvelt; a sister, Jean Davis of Norvelt; and six grandchildren, Barbara Jean Smith, Tina Matevish, Robert Smith, Christopher Jones, Cory Jones and Brandon Dempsey. Maureen E. (Jones) Lobalzo, 64, of Bakerstown, ended her fight with cancer on Friday, June 9, 2000, at UPMC Passavant. Born Sept. 17, 1935, a daughter of the late Richard and Eleanor (Boyle) Jones. Wife of the late Henry J. "Lou" Lobalzo, who died in 1992. Beloved mother of P. Michael Lobalzo of University Place, Wash., and Elizabeth and her husband, John A. Setzenfand, of Saxonburg. Two sisters , Dorothy Vidra of Annapolis, Md., and Virginia Neiber of Atlanta, Ga.; and a granddaughter, Sarah Marie Setzenfand. Friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass of Christian Burial Monday at 6 p.m. in Holy Sepulcher Catholic Church with Father John P. Maloney as celebrant. Interment will be private at Bakerstown Cemetery. Mrs. Lobalzo was a registered pediatric nurse, a graduate of Shadyside Nursing School and a member of Holy Sepulcher Catholic Church. Stella (Baldige) Petroski, 94, of Delmont, died Friday, June 9, 2000, in Beverly Manor of Monroeville. She was born Dec. 13, 1905, in Glenwood, a daughter of the late Stanley and Theofila (Mals) Baldige. In addition to her parents, Stella was preceded in death by her husband, William Petroski; a son, William Petroski; two daughters , Ester Glasser and Patricia Hah; a daughter-in-law, Betty Petroski; and a grandson, Moose Rutter. She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor L. Veradi and husband, James, of Delmont; two sons , Frank Petroski of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Anthony Petroski and wife, Barbie, of North Braddock; a sister, Eleanor Catterall of Turtle Creek; two sisters -in-law, Madline Baldige of Turtle Creek and Geraldine Baldige of North Huntingdon; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
