ALBERT R. STEWART

Albert R. Stewart, 88, died Nov. 28, 2001 at Meadowood At Worcester.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecyl (Walters) Stewart, May 24, 2000. Formerly of Lansdale, he resided in Montgomery Twp. from 1967 until entering Meadowood in April.

Born in Abington, he was the son of the late Charles Barton and Margaret Olivia (Ross) Stewart. He grew up on his family's farm in Towamencin Twp. and was active at Fisher's Pool. He graduated from the former Lansdale High School and Ursinus College in Collegeville, Class of 1935. He later received his master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

A science teacher, he began his career at the former Lansdale High School in 1938 and retired from North Penn High School in 1978. He served as chairman of the science department at North Penn High School from 1955 until retiring.

Mr. Stewart was a former president of the Lansdale Education Association and a member of the Montgomery County Science Teachers Association and the Montgomery County Education Association.

He was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Trappe and formerly attended St. John's United Church of Christ in Lansdale.

He enjoyed chess, bridge, gardening and amateur radio. His current call sign was N3BQV.

Survivors include three children, a daughter, Nancy Walker of Hatfield; two sons, Albert R. Stewart Jr. and his wife, Esther, of Butler and Charles W. Stewart and his wife, Virginia, of Hatfield; six grandchildren, Charles Jr., John, James and Christopher Stewart, Terri Munoz and Susan Reed; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by infant twin sons.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service, Saturday, Dec. 1 at 10 A.M. in the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Derstine and Cannon avenues, Lansdale. Interment , St. Luke's U.C.C. cemetery in Trappe. Friends may call at the funeral home, Friday from 7 to 8:30 P.M. or Saturday from 9:30 to 10 A.M.

GERALD C. FITZGERALD
Gerald C. Fitzgerald, age 65, of Harleysville, died Thursday, December 6, 2001, at Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton. He had been in failing health. Formerly of New Jersey and Delaware, he lived in Harleysville for 30 years. He was the husband of 40 years of Ann (Witherbee) Fitzgerald.

GLADYS J. GLENN
Gladys J. Glenn, 77, of Blue Bell, went Home December 7, 2001. A former longtime resident of Lansdale, she moved to Normandy Farms Estates in June of 1999. She was born in Hatfield, a daughter of the late Russell Renner and Estella Renner Fly and graduated from the former Lansdale High School.

WILLIAM G. RUSSELL
William G. "Bill" Russell, age 85, of North Wales, died Friday, December 7, 2001, in Doylestown Hospital. He was the husband of Charlotte Russell. The couple had been married 61 years in June. Born July 4, 1916 in Tremont, he was the son of the late George and Cora (Seaman) Russell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WW II as a machinist's mate.

FLORENCE CHRYSCZANAVICZ

Florence "Babe" (Brodzik) Chrysczanavicz, 70, of Harleysville, died Sunday, December 16, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital in Quakertown, after becoming ill at her residence Friday. She was the wife of 50 years of Henry P. Chrysczanavicz.
Born in Camden, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Alice Brodzik. Formerly of Camden, she moved to Harleysville 45 years ago.

She was a homemaker.

A member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Upper Gwynedd, Mrs. Chrysczanavicz volunteered at the parish bingo game.

She was a home health care giver. She loved to cook and spend time at Endless Mountain in Pennsylvania.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Alexis Trescak and her husband, George, of Hellertown; three sons, Paul H. Chrysczanavicz and his wife, Debbie, of Bristol, David M. Chrysczanavicz and his wife, Sandy, of East Greenville and Mark A. Chrysczanavicz of Norwalk, CT; three grandchildren, Brandon, Jenna and Jonathan Chrysczanavicz; and two sisters, Stella Burgo and Eleanor Delano.

She was preceded in death by a son, Paul H. Chrysczanavicz, in 1993; five brothers, John, Peter, Marion, Chester and Stanley Brodzik; and two sisters, Jennie Mikowski and infant baby Florence Brodzik.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass Thursday, Dec. 20, at 10 AM at Corpus Christi Church, 920 Sumneytown Pike in Upper Gwynedd, followed by interment in Saints Peter and Paul cemetery in Springfield, Delaware County. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 PM and Thursday from 8:30 to 9:15 AM at the Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main Street in Lansdale.

SHERRY D. GRIMES

Sherry D. Grimes, 55, of North Wales, died Sunday, December 16, 2001, in North Penn Hospital. She was the wife of G. Sonny Grimes She had been a resident of the area for more than 20 years.
Born Oct. 30, 1946 in Youngstown, OH, she was the daughter of Maggie R. (Johnson) Forney and the late James A. Forney Sr.

Mrs. Grimes was a counselor at Hatfield Elementary School.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by a brother, James A. Forney Jr.; a sister-in-law, Cindy Forney; and a stepdaughter, Michelle D. Grimes.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19, from 6 to 8 PM at Christ United Methodist Church, 1020 S. Valley Forge Rd. in Towamencin. Local arrangements are by the Richard C. Johnson Jr. Funeral Home in Norristown and additional arrangements are pending with the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home in Youngstown.

VIOLET S. LANG
Violet (Stoertz) Lang, age 83, of Franconia Township, died Thursday, December 13, 2001, at Grandview Hospital in West Rockhill Township. She was the wife of the late Robert L. Lang.

FRANCIS D. PENNINGS

Francis David "Frankie" Pennings, born August 25, 2001, went home to be with the Lord Sunday night, Dec. 16, 2001.
He has gone to be the family's guardian angel and will be sadly missed by his parents, Jeremy and Nicole Pennings of Williamsport; maternal grandparents, Ed and Diane Smith of Harleysville; paternal grandparents, Tony and Deborah Pennings of Cogan House; uncles, Eddie, Brian and Jonny; aunts, Dana and Jessica; cousin Dylan; maternal greatgrandparents, the Rev. Larry Svane and Sally Svane of Harleysville; and paternal greatgrandparents, Anthony and Juanita Trocine of Muncy, all of whom he touched with his smile. He gave the family much joy.

He was preceded in death by his great "Granny" Pennings.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4 PM in Pleasant View Wesleyan Church, East Penn Street in Muncy, with the Rev. Ronald N. Sytsma officiating, where friends may call from 3 to 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated for SIDS research, PA Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Center, c/o Children's Hospital, 34th Street and Civic Center Boulevard, Phila., PA 19104. Arrangements are by the Crouse Funeral Home in Williamsport.

SPENCER SILVERTHORNE

Spencer V. Silverthorne, 53, of Richardson, TX, died Dec. 16, 2001, in Dallas, TX. He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Susan Silverthorne.
Born July 27, 1948 in Bronxville, NY, he was a son of Holly A. Silverthorne of West Chester and the late Spencer V. Silverthorne Jr. A graduate of Kent School in Kent, CT, he went on to receive a bachelor's degree in physics from Villanova and a masters of science and electrical engineering from Lehigh University.

Mr. Silverthorne was employed by Leeds and Northrup and General Signal in North Wales from 1978 to 1995 and by Honeywell Sensing and Control in Richardson as a senior process engineer from 1996 to 2001.

He belonged to First Presbyterian Church of Richardson. He was an active church member all his life by singing in the choir and serving on many committees.

While living in Pennsylvania, he was a member of the Upper Perkiomen Choral Arts Society. He was also a member of the IEEE and other scientific organizations.

Mr. Silverthorne received a U.S. patent for his work on a humidity sensor.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two  daughters, Sarah of Pittsburgh and Katie of Richardson; two brothers, John and his wife, Faith, of West Chester and Daniel of Lancaster; a sister-in-law, Linda Chaffee of Telford; a brother-in-law, Carl Chaffee of London, England; and six nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 10 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Richardson. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the American Parkinson Disease Association (ADPA) or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are by the Sparkman Funeral Home in Richardson.

ROBERT C. TRIER JR.

Robert C. Trier Jr., 94, died Monday, December 17, 2001 at Brittany Pointe Estates in Upper Gwynedd. Mr. Trier led a long, active life not retiring until he was in his 80s. He and his family moved to the North Penn area in 1965, when he developed, built and managed Foulkeways at Gwynedd, one of the first retirement communities in the nation. In 1969, he left Foulkeways to build the former Holiday Inn, a 200 room full service hotel in Kulpsville, which he actively managed until he retired in 1988.
Mr. Trier was raised in Rye, NY. Without assistance from his family, he was able to work his way through The Hotel School at Cornell University during the heart of the Depression and graduated in 1932. He was so successful in expanding and creating student agencies at Cornell, he was not only able to finance his education but also to support his parents and several classmates, who were without funds during this difficult period. His experience at Cornell created a lifetime love for his alma mater, which he continuously supported throughout the years.

Prior to his arrival to Pennsylvania, he led a distinguished career in the hotel resort business. He managed resorts from Florida to Maine. His patrons included the famous such as Presidents Nixon and Eisenhower, Mayor Daley of Chicago, Henry Cabot Lodge Jr., golfers Gene Sarazen, Art Wall, Ben Hogan, Bob Toski and Gary Player, and Casey Stengel and the entire Yankees organization, plus too many Fortune 100 company presidents to list. Many customers, such as President Nixon before he became president, followed him both to Maine in the summer and Florida in the winter.

Mr. Trier was well known for his keen sense of humor and the quality of his zingers, which amused all within hearing from age eight to 80. A tremendous card player, he particularly liked bridge. He played in his country club's team, Old York Road, as well as in numerous contract bridge contests. An elegant and urbane man, as well as a terrific dancer, he was always a favorite at social events by either entertaining or being entertained.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth; two sons, Robert C. Trier III and Russell S. Trier; two  daughters-in-law, Dorothy and Sally; five grandsons; and two greatgranddaughters, all of whom live in the North Penn area.

A service is scheduled Thursday, Dec. 20, at 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 W. Main St. in Lansdale. A celebratory luncheon of his life will be held at the Best Western in Kulpsville immediately following the service. Friends and family are all invited. Interment will be held at a later date in Savannah, GA with the family. Arrangements are by the Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home in Lansdale.

DOROTHY L. WEBER

Dorothy L. Weber, 78, of Telford, formerly of Plumsteadville, died Saturday, December 9, 2001, in the skilled nursing unit of the Lutheran Community At Telford, where she was a patient since July. She had been in failing health for several years. She and her husband, Carl L. Weber, celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in June of this year.
Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Onzelle R. (Blackstock) Lackmond. A 1943 graduate of Olney High School in Philadelphia. A resident of the Bucks County area for more than 15 years, she and her husband moved to their current address in Telford in 1996.

While living in Philadelphia, she was employed as a secretary for the Taylor School of Business. While living in Plumsteadville, she worked with her husband in the family's vineyard business in Bucks County until her retirement due to failing health in the early 1990s.

She attended Danboro Reformed Church in Doylestown in recent years and was a former member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Perkasie. She was a member for more than 15 years of the Sweet Adelines of Oreland, where she served as their assistant director for four years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Lee Taylor and her husband, John, of Grafton, WV; three sons, Mark Weber and his wife, Avril, of Tucson, AZ, Gregg L. Weber of San Francisco, CA and Jeffrey Weber and his wife, Kim, of Orinda, CA; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Linsley, in 1954; and two sisters, Anna Graham and Ernestine Gordon.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at 1 PM in Danboro Reformed Church, 4877 Bergstrom Rd., Doylestown, PA 18901. Those desiring may make memorials in her memory to the memorial fund of the above named church. Arrangements are by the David R. Sadler Funeral Home in Telford.

CLAUDIA E. WINNER

Claudia E. Winner, 22, of Upper Salford Twp., died Sunday, December 16, 2001, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born in Caban, Guatemala, she was a daughter of Frederick C. and Joyce G. (Kuhn) Winner. She was a graduate of Garden Spot High School in New Holland, where she excelled in track and field hockey.

She was a food service worker.

In addition to her parents, with whom she resided, she is survived by two sisters, Jennifer Shaner of Mohton and Marla Patricia Winner, at home; paternal grandparents, John H. and Jean D. (Cotter) Winner of Souderton; and her maternal grandmother, Agatha (

Montia) Kuhn of Telford.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Frank J. Kuhn.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service Friday, Dec. 21, at 11 AM at the Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, 667 Harleysville Pike, Franconia. The Rev. David M. Benninghove, pastor of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sellersville, will officiate. Friends may call Friday from 10 to 11 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be sent to the Lutheran Children and Family Services, 5902 N. 5th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19120.

JOHN LUVENDER

John W. "Jack" Luvender, 71, died Wednesday, December 19, 2001 at his son's home in Telford.
He and his wife, Evangeline (Bergey) Luvender celebrated 20 years of marriage July 28.

Born in Moosic, he was a son of the late John and Amanda (Mumford) Luvender. He was a veteran of the National Guard of Pennsylvania, serving in the 109th Infantry Regiment. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the Korean War.

Mr. Luvender was employed by the Marlborough Township Police Department in Green Lane for 18 years. He served as a patrolman from May 1976 to July 1988, as a sergeant from August 1988 to March 1993 and as chief of police from March 1993 to November 1994. He retired in 1995. Prior to that, he was employed by the Salford Police Department from March 1965 to April, 1976, where he was a sergeant from 1968 to 1976. He was the fire officer of Telford in 1964 and worked part time as a security guard for Philadelphia Suburban Security Company at Montgomery County Park in Green Lane.

He was a member of the Tri-Boro Detachment Marine Corps League of Red Hill, the Montgomery County Police Chief's Association, the Pennsylvania Police Chief's Association and the National Police Chief's Association. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Montgomery County Lodge No. 14.

Mr. Luvender was of the Lutheran faith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, John W. Luvender Jr. of Coopersburg, George T. Luvender, with whom he resided in Telford and David P. Luvender of Palm; two  daughters, Shirley M. Fuss and her husband, Russell, of Lansdale and Carol L. Palmerio and her husband, Larry, of Telford; a brother, James Luvender of New Jersey; 13 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas F. Luvender: and a grandson, Michael Palmerio.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday at the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington St., East Greenville. The Rev. Edward A. Neiderhiser, assistant pastor at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in North Wales, will officiate. Interment will be at Frieden's Union cemetery in Sumneytown. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 AM Saturday, at the funeral home, prior to the service.
