Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

ROBERT C. SHUTT

Robert Chapman Shutt, 70, of Telford, formerly of Warminster, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, in Doylestown Hospital, where he had been a medical patient for 10 days. He and his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (Remaley) Shutt, would have observed their 48th wedding anniversary on August 8. They had resided at their current address in Telford since 1956.
Born in Mt. Carmel, North Umberland County, he was a son of the late George W. and Augusta (Chapman) Shutt. He was a 1949 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War.

Mr. Shutt was employed as a foreman by SPS Technologies of Jenkintown for more than 32 years, retiring in 1993.

He was a 44 year member of Grace United Methodist Church in Telford, where he served on Church Council and the Kitchen Committee and was an usher and a trustee for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three  daughters, Beth Trujillo and her husband, Abel A., and Beverly S. Wasser and her husband, Brian R., all of Telford, and Becky Branning and her husband, Briggs A., of Souderton; eight grandchildren, Bobbi, Breanne, Benjamin and B. Daniel Wasser, Alyse and Sarah Trujillo and Tabitha and Aiden Branning; and a sister, Augusta Borisheski of Warminster.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, John, George L., Raymond and Harry C. Shutt; and two sisters, Anna Erney and Charlotte Lubinski.

Funeral services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial services will be held Friday, June 1 at 11 A.M. in Grace United Methodist Church, Main and Reliance Roads, Telford. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Please omit flowers. Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to the Kitchen Committee of the above named church, P.O. Box 257, Telford, PA 18969. Arrangements are by the David R. Sadler Funeral Home in Telford.

CHARLES R. STEITZ JR.

Charles R. Steitz Jr., 76, husband of the late Evelyn K. (Kressly) Steitz, of Harleysville, died Saturday, May 26, 2001 in Grand View Hospital.
Born in East Greenville, he was a son of the late Charles R. and Lizzie (Buss) Steitz. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during WW II.

Mr. Steitz was a history teacher at Perkiomen Valley High School and Middle School for 37 years, retiring in 1988. He was a military historian and an avid photographer.

Surviving is a daughter, Ann L. Steitz of Raleigh, NC.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Albert W. Steitz.

A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, May 31, at the Peter Becker Community Chapel, 800 Maple Ave., Harleysville, with the Rev. Kenneth Ensminger, retired pastor of Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Schwenksville, officiating. Interment will be in Schoenersville cemetery in Schoenersville. Friends and relatives may call from 10 to 11 A.M. at the chapel prior to the funeral service.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, 1070 Church Rd., East Greenville, PA or the Trappe Historical Society, P.O. Box 26708, Collegeville, PA, 19426-0708. The Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home in East Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

DAVID DONALD TREECE

David Donald Treece, 69, of James Creek, died May 25, 2001 at Huntingdon Manor Nursing Home. He was the husband of Martha J. (Suba) Treece.
Born Sept. 30, 1931 in Cherrytown, he was a son of the late David R. and Iretta C. (Edwards) Treece.

He retired from PennDot in 1991, after 26 years of service.

Mr. Treece was of the Methodist Faith.

He was a member of the Saxton VFW, Saxton Sportsman Association and Huntingdon Moose Lodge.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Edward Treece of Saxton, Joseph Treece of Alexandria and Michael Treece, at home; four grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Treece of James Creek; and a sister, Bonnie Gerhart of Lansdale.

He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Treece; and a sister, Veda Walko.

Services will be Wednesday, May 30 at 2 PM in the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel in Saxton. Burial will be in Russellville Methodist Church cemetery.

ANNE L. VOEGELE

Anne L. (Faron) Voegele, age 76, of Fountainville, died May 27, 2001, in Doylestown Hospital. She was the wife of Harry L. Voegele and the mother of Sue Camburn. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christina, Christine, and Jamie, and her great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kyle, Meghan and Petr.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral at the Longenecker Funeral Home, Main Street and Elm Avenue, North Wales, Friday at Noon, where friends may call from 11 A.M. to Noon. Interment , Whitemarsh Memorial Park.

KATHRYN B. ALGARD

Kathryn B. Algard, age 102, died Wednesday, October 3, 2001, at the Lutheran Home at Topton, where she had resided since 1998.
She was the widow of Richard H. Algard, who died in 1963.

Born in Hatfield on November 21, 1898, she was a daughter of the late Henry K. and Flora (Barndt) Godshall. She had lived in her own home until she was 99 years old.

Mrs. Algard was the eldest member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hatfield. She had been very active in the church, taking care of the altar flowers, as well as the Faithful Helpers women's group at that time. She enjoyed many crafts, and used her artistic abilities with church functions.

She was a charter member of the Hatfield Museum and History Society.

She had worked many years for the former Cassel Florist in Telford. She also had her own beauty shop on Broad Street in Hatfield Borough, beginning in 1934. During that time, she also did hairdressing for Ziegler Z. Cope, the founder of a funeral home located in Hatfield.

Mrs. Algard is survived by two sisters, Edna (Godshall) Weyer and her husband, Peter, of Mertztown and Pearl (Godshall) Greenholt of New Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Marvin Godshall; and two sisters, Emma Godshall and Florence Fox.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service Monday, October 8, at 11 AM at the Kligge Funeral Home Inc., 464 S. Main St., Hatfield. Pastor Robert Doll will be officiating. There will be a viewing from 10 AM at the funeral home. Interment , Leidy's cemetery in Franconia Township.

CHARLES M. DELP

Charles M. Delp, 67, a retired supervisor, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001 at his home in Lansdale, after a long illness.
He was the husband of Mary Ann M. (Bray) Delp.

Born Sept. 10, 1934 in Norristown, he was the son of Charles P. Delp Jr. of California and the late Myrtle Mae (Kriebel) Kline.

He was employed by Handy & Harman Tube Company of East Norriton for 44 years.

Mr. Delp was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus R.C. Church in Lansdale and enjoyed hunting.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Diane M. Saylor and her husband, Ron, of Telford; and two stepgrandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 A.M., Monday, Oct. 8, from the R.L. Williams Jr. Funeral Home, Skippack Pike and Cedars Road, Skippack, where friends may call from 10 to 11 A.M. Interment will be in St. John Neumann cemetery in Chalfont.

WILLIAM J. HOAK
William J. Hoak, 55, of Quakertown, died October 3, 2001, in the emergency room of Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill.

GRACE L. MELLOR

Grace L. Mellor, 86, died Oct. 3, 2001 at the Lutheran Community at Telford.
She was the widow of the late Ralston G. Mellor and had been a lifelong resident of Hilltown Twp.

Born in Hilltown Twp., she was a daughter of the late Henry S. and Mame (Swope) Landis.

As a younger woman, she was employed by the former Interstate Hosiery Mill of Lansdale.

Mrs. Mellor enjoyed gardening and was a lover of animals, especially horses.

Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Hartzell and her husband, Walter, of Brentwood, TN; one son, Ralston G. "Butch" Mellor and his wife, Sharon, of Perkasie; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Rachel Landis and Ruth Miller, both of Souderton, Marian Wegscheider of Texas and Alma Hendrickson of Perkasie.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Bevan and Dorothy Swartz; and a brother, E. Wesley Landis.

The funeral service will be Monday, Oct. 8 at 10:30 A.M. at the Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home, 130 E. Broad St. (Route 113) Souderton. The family will greet friends from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. Interment will be in St. Peter's Union cemetery in Hilltown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Memorial Fund, Grand View Hospital, 700 Lawn Ave., Sellersville, PA 18960.

JAY SCOTT NOGA

Jay Scott Noga, 29, of Allison, formerly of Lansdale, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001 in Brownsville General Hospital in Brownsville and laid to rest in LaFayette Memorial cemetery in Briar Hill, Sept. 19.
Jay is survived by his  Father, with whom he made his home, Steve Noga Jr. and Beverly Pugliesi of Allison; his mother, Deborah Sue Jellots, his stepfather, Scott Lukens, his son, Joshua Matthew Noga and Joshua's mother, JoAnn Varga, and his brother, Jason Paul Noga and Jason's daughter, Desiree Michelle Noga, all of Lansdale; his maternal grandfather, Andrew Jellots Sr. of Waynesburg; his paternal grandmother, Sylvesta Noga of West Brownsville; his stepgrandfather, Gus Lukens of Lansdale; his paternal uncle, George Noga and paternal aunt, Garnet Wooten, both of West Brownsville; his maternal uncles and aunts, Joseph Broadwater of Chicago, IL, Sharon Angelo of Isabella, Darlene Sylvester of Brookings, OR, Andrew Jellots Jr. of Waynesburg, Jeffrey Jellots of Brownsville, Douglas Jellots of Fairfax, VA, Pamela Jellots of Farmington, Lisa Basinger of Dry Tavern and Nanette Jellots of Waynesburg; his cousins, Ronald Costello and his wife, Michelle, and their daughter, Justina, Domenic Costello and Mark Costello, all of West Brownsville, Debra Brumley of Allison and many other cousins.

He was preceded in death by his good friend and mentor, Johnny Wells, his uncle, Michael Lukens, and his lifelong friends, John Veny and Mitch Grant.

There will be a remembrance gathering held at the Wm. E. Hare American Legion Post No. 206, Second and Walnut streets, Lansdale, Saturday, Oct. 13, at 5 P.M. Anyone wishing to contribute to help with Jay's funeral expenses can do so at that time.

ARLENE MARIE PERRY
Arlene Marie Perry, 67, of Sarasota, FL, died Oct. 4, 2001.

SHIRLEY H. ROTA

A memorial service for Shirley H. Rota, 66, of Lansdale, who died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, will be Friday, Oct. 5 at 10 A.M. in the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home in Lansdale, where friends may call after 9 A.M. I
n lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Padre Pio Shrine, Barto, PA 19504.

ELLEN B. SCHIRK

Ellen Bernice (Keller) Schirk, 78, passed away at the Peter Becker Community in Harleysville Wednesday night, Oct. 3, 2001, where she had been a patient for the past six weeks.
Formerly a resident of Spring Mount for 50 years, she lived at the Colonnade of Schwenksville for almost two years before entering the Peter Becker Community. She and her husband, John M. Schirk, were married for 55 years, June 1.

Born Oct. 5, 1922 in Souderton, she was a daughter of the late James and Ella (Nace) Keller. She was employed as a seamstress in local clothing factories, retiring from the former Marrows Clothing Factory of Skippack.

Mrs. Schirk was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sumneytown for more than 50 years where she was formerly a Sunday school teacher.

She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lower Frederick Fire Company.

Mrs. Schirk enjoyed cross stitching, knitting and playing bingo. She also liked taking walks, visiting with people on her porch and vacationing in the mountains in Pennsylvania.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, John R. Schirk and his wife, Carolyn J., of Upper Salford; three  daughters, Joanne M. Greenspan of Pomona, CA, Diane F. Asay and her husband, David M., of Harleysville and Debbie I. Schirk of Spring Mount; one brother, Leon Keller and his wife, Joanne, of Green Lane; a sister, Esther Moyer of Telford; four grandsons; and two step-grandsons.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Linwood, Laverne, Edward, Norman "Jack" and John Kenneth Keller; and a sister, Irma Berger.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service Monday, Oct. 8, at 11 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 3104 Main St., P.O. Box 255, Sumneytown, PA 18084, where friends may call for the viewing from 10 to 11 A.M. Interment will take place at Limerick Garden of Memories. For those desiring, contributions may be made in her memory to the Building Fund of St. John's Lutheran Church, at the address above. Arrangements are by the R.L. Williams Jr. Funeral Home Inc. in Skippack.
