Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

MARY H. SMALL

Mary H. Small, 85, of the Peter Becker Community in Harleysville, formerly of East Reliance Road in Souderton, died Monday morning, September 25, 2001, in the community's skilled nursing unit, where she had been a patient for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Stephen Small, in January, 1973.

Born in Carteret, NJ, she was a daughter of the late John and Pauline (LiPia) Hegedus. A resident of Souderton for many years, she moved to the Miriam Wood Apartments in Perkasie in 1988, where she resided until entering the Peter Becker Community, as a resident, in 1996.

A homemaker for most of her life, she also assisted her husband in the family owned business, Small's Shoe Repair Shop, which they operated from their residence for more than 47 years.

Mrs. Small was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Hatfield.

She is survived by three  daughters, Mary P. J. Maurer of Perkasie, Elsie J. Biehn and her husband, Charles M., of Souderton and Josephine L. Hamburger and her husband, Joseph G., of Sellersville; 14 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and James Hegedus; three sisters, Barbara Nottigan, Elizabeth Hatola and Anne Erdelyi; and a son-in-law, Harry M. Maurer, in January, 1997.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 28 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield, PA 19440. Interment in St. Agnes cemetery in Sellersville. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:45 to 10:30 A.M., prior to the Mass. Those desiring, may make memorials in her memory to the Memorial Fund of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. Arrangements by the David R. Sadler Funeral Home in Telford.

MARY ANNE FEDGCHIN

Mary Anne (Cooney) Fedgchin, 55, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 25, 2001 in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, following a long illness.
She was the wife of Robert B. Fedgchin and they had observed their 32nd wedding anniversary in July. A resident of Lansdale since 1971, she was formerly of the Society Hill section of Philadelphia.

Born in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late John Francis and Mary Helen (Kotsko) Cooney and graduated from Nativity BVM High School in Pottsville, Class of 1964. She continued her education at St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Reading, where she received her registered nurse degree in 1967. In addition, she attended classes at the University of Pennsylvania, working toward her final degree.

Mrs. Fedgchin worked as a registered nurse for two years at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and for 1-1/2 years at North Penn Hospital in Hatfield Twp. She was currently employed by Lansdale Medical Group.

She was a member of the National Nursing Society, Corpus Christi Church in Upper Gwynedd and the Sister's Circle in Harleysville.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Brian David Fedgchin of Cherry Hill, NJ and Jason Michael Fedgchin of Conshohocken; and a brother, John Francis Cooney Jr. and his wife, Dolores, of Brookhaven, NJ.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass Saturday, Sept. 29 at 9:30 A.M. in Corpus Christi Church, 900 Sumneytown Pike, Upper Gwynedd. Interment , St. John Neumann cemetery. Friends may call at the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home in Lansdale, Friday from 7 to 9 P.M. and Saturday from 8 to 8:45 A.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, c/o Signa, 1601 Chestnut St., 6th floor, Philadelphia, PA 19103.

JOANNE MANDUZIO
Joanne Manduzio, 47, of Boyertown, Berks County, died Sept. 25, 2001 in Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.

HELEN M. PUTNICK
Helen M. (Sliwkowski) Putnick, 95, died Monday evening, Sept. 24, 2001 at St. Mary Manor in Lansdale, where she had resided since March, 1998.

PEARL E. WIFRED
Pearl E. Wifred, 96, died Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 25, 2001, in Montgomery County Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Providence.

PRESTON L. BARNDT SR.

Preston L. Barndt Sr., 84, of Perkasie, died Saturday, October 20, 2001, in the Lutheran Community at Telford. He was the husband of Edith (Gangaway) Barndt.
Born in Salford Twp., he was a son of the late Milton R. and Laura (Long) Barndt.

Mr. Barndt had been employed by the Davis Feed Mill of Perkasie for 48 years until retiring in 1992. Prior to that, he worked for the former Stover Feed Mill of Perkasie. After his retirement, he began woodworking and built furniture and other wooden crafts.

Mr. Barndt was a member of Little Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Telford.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a son, Nevin R. Barndt and his wife, Carolyn (Daniels), of Telford; a daughter, Dorothy M. Ginter and her husband, Robert P., of Van Etten, NY; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Clayton L. Barndt of Souderton; and a sister, Naomi Moyer of Mullinville, KS.

He was preceded in death by a son, Preston L. Barndt Jr.; and two brothers, Clarence and Stanley Barndt.

Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral services Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 11 AM in Little Zion Lutheran Church, 267 Morwood Rd., Telford. Interment will be in the Little Zion Lutheran cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday morning from 10 to 11 AM at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorder Center, Neurological Institute, 330 S. 9th St., Phila., PA 19107. Arrangements are by the Bernard Suess Funeral Home in Perkasie.

EVA S. DETWEILER
Eva S. Detweiler, 85, died October 19, 2001, at Rockhill Mennonite Community, West Rockhill Twp., where she resided since 1998.

MILDRED K. GARGES
Mildred K. Garges, 67, died October 20, 2001 at Souderton Mennonite Homes, where she resided for the past 19 years. She was a lifelong resident of the Souderton area.

GILBERT F. QUINBY

Gilbert Farrand Quinby, age 80, died Thursday, October 18, 2001, at his home in Fort Washington. He was the husband of 59 years of Andora (Jourbert) Quinby.
Born Sept. 15, 1921 in Palo Alto, CA, he was a son of the late James Abram and Katherine (Gilbert) Quinby. He graduated from Oregon State University, where he first became a pilot and began his life work in avionic instruments. During World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy with intelligence systems.

Mr. Quinby was first employed by RCA in Camden, NJ, as an electrical engineer. He was the cofounder of and went on to become vice president of sales for Narco Scientific Industries of Fort Washington.

In the 1980s, he was instrumental in developing the aircraft collision avoidance system (TCAS) which prevents mid-air collisions. He also participated in developing the global satellite positioning system which was first designed for aircraft. Mr. Quinby met with the Soviet avionic leaders, helping to convince the Soviets to share satellites with the U.S., allowing for sufficient satellites to cover the globe with back-up systems. He enjoyed a warm friendship with his counterpart in Saint Petersburg, Russia at a time when relations with the Soviet Union were just beginning.

In the 1980s and 1990s Mr. Quinby established his consulting firm, G.F. Quinby Associates, represented manufacturers of small aircraft, RTCA of Washington DC and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association coordinating with the Federal Aviation Association. He was a frequent contributor to the AOPA Pilot magazine.

In his private life, Mr. Quinby was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.

He enjoyed his vegetable patch, flowers and nature. He was an avid and scientific shell collector and at one time was president of the Philadelphia Shell Club.

In addition to his wife, Andora, he is survived by seven children, Jim Quinby of Ashland, OR, Randy Quinby of Sellersville, Bill Quinby of Reno, NV, Priscilla Quinby of Ashland, Dori Q. Campbell of Sharon Hill, Rose Quinby of Seattle, WA and Caroline Rush of Boulder, CO; and 12 grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Carter Quinby of Palo Alto; and a sister, Virginia Q. DeFriest of Port Lonsdale, Victoria, Australia.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mikey.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 7 to 9 PM at the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home in Lansdale. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 AM in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 407 N. Broad St., Lansdale, PA 19446. Interment , Whitemarsh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, address above.

STACEY L. WEAVER

Stacey L. Weaver, of Perkasie, passed Sunday, October 21, 2001, at Doylestown Hospital after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 40 years young.
She was the beloved wife of Michael P. Sheridan, who she had been inseparable from for 12 years.

Born in Evansville, IN, she was the daughter of Ronald Weaver of Weaversville, NC and her mother, Carolyn (Fisher) Weaver of Minneapolis, MN.

Stacey had been a resident of Perkasie for the past 12 years. Stacey graduated from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, in 1983 with a degree in chemical engineering. From 1983 until the present, she worked with Merck & Co., West Point, where she was a senior manager of pharmaceutical operations.

A member of Bucks County Horse Park, she enjoyed horseback riding, caring for her four horses, three dogs and other pets. She took pleasure and pride in designing and maintaining her homestead.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by her sister, Leigh Weaver of Madison, WI; and her grandmother, Ruth Fisher of Cincinnati, OH.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Tuesday, October 23, 2001, from 6:30 PM until her memorial service at 8 PM from the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (Route 202 at Sandy Ridge Road), New Britain. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice that supports the preservation of animals.

ROBERT G. BYREN
Robert G. Byren, age 81, of North Wales and Normandy Farms Estates, died Tuesday morning, June 12, 2001, in Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington. He was the husband of the late Grace (Fearon) Byren, who died in 1997 after 48 years of marriage.

DORIS ROTH DAWSON

Doris Roth (Addison) Dawson, 79, died Tuesday afternoon, June 12, 2001, in North Penn Hospital, Hatfield Twp. She was the wife of the late Robert Dawson, who died in 1986 and was also preceded in death by her first husband, William Roth, in 1971. Formerly of Maple Glen, she lived in Reading for 15 years before moving to Lansdale five years ago.
Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Selah and Alice (Garrett) Addison.

Mrs. Dawson was a member of Immanuel Church of the Nazarene in Lansdale.

She was an avid golfer and pinochle player.

Surviving are four sons, William Roth and his wife, Eileen, of Warrington, Douglas Roth and his wife, Linda, of Dresher, Robert Roth and his wife, Linda, of Lansdale and George Scott Roth of Hatfield; two stepsons, Bruce Dawson and his wife, Donna, of North Wales and Keith Dawson of Brooklyn, NY; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Julie Dawson; a sister, Ruth Irvin; and a brother, Robert Addison.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her service, Friday, June 15, at 8:00 P.M. in the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home in Lansdale, where friends may call after 6:30 P.M. Interment , Head of the River cemetery in Tuckahoe, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Immanuel Church of the Nazarene, 1260 W. Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446.

LEO EDWARD DYER
Leo Edward Dyer, 76, died Wednesday morning, June 13, 2001, in North Penn Hospital, Hatfield Twp., following a long illness. He was the husband of Isabelle J. (Licwinko) Dyer and they would have observed their 57th wedding anniversary in July. Mr. and Mrs. Dyer lived in Blue Bell for 34 years, before moving to Harleysville nine years ago.

DOUGLAS N. BROOKS

Douglas N. Brooks, 79, formerly of Lansdale, died Oct. 19, 2001. He was the husband of Marcia Brooks.
He was a 1943 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Economics. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy, he served during WW II.

He had more than 35 years of international business experience as CEO of Brooks Instrument in Hatfield and other small and medium size corporations devoted to the manufacturing and sales of process instrumentation, with extensive experience in acquisition and mergers. At the time of his death, he was self employed.

Mr. Brooks was a Chevaliers du Tastevin, Nuit St. George, France.

He was the founder of the North Penn YMCA and served as a director of Continental Bank and the Tiffany Co. He was a consultant to many companies worldwide.

Mr. Brooks was an active member of Towson Unitarian Universalist Church.

He belonged to the Towson Elks, Baltimore County Senior Golf, Instrument Society of American and Cryogenic Society of America.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Theodore Brooks and Cheryl Antonnacio of Bucks County and Stephanie Dains of San Francisco, CA; two stepsons, Christopher Easton and Richard Easton, both of Baltimore, MD; three grandchildren, Douglas Brooks of San Jose, CA, and Karla Holt and Michael Antonnacio of Bucks County; one great-grandchild, Kate Brooks; and stepgrandchildren, Michael, Brian, Gavin, David, Victoria and Graham Easton.

Memorial services will be held at Towson Unitarian Universalist Church, 1710 Dulaney Valley Road at 11 A.M., Saturday, Oct. 27. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Towson Unitarian Church World Religion Fund. Interment will be private.

CONRAD LEE CREASY

Conrad Lee Creasy, 70, of Berwick, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001 at the Allied Services Center in Scranton.
He and his wife, the former Rose M. Silvetti, celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary last May.

Born Nov. 29, 1930 in Berwick, he was a son of the late William Creasy and Carola (Ridall) Creasy Hunter. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during the Korean War.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, John Creasy Kukorlo of Espy, Jacklyn Hilling and her husband, James, of Worcester, Colleen Peterson of Tehuacana, TX and Cheryl Thompson and her husband, Larry K., Jr., of Benton; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, William Creasy of Berwick; and a sister, Barbara Stang and her husband, Donald, of Nescopeck.

He was preceded in death by two children, Joseph Kukorlo, in 1982 and Pamela Ammean, in 1998.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 PM at Kelchner-McMichael Funeral Home Inc., 119-121 E. Third St., Berwick, PA. The viewing will be Friday from 1 to 2 PM.

Mary Emma (Gates) Dillon, 91, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest October 13, 2001.
