Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

RETIRED LT. COL. LANE ROGERS

Retired Lt. Col. Lane Rogers, 72, of Sumneytown, died Sunday evening, Aug. 12, 2001 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, after a long illness.
He lived in Sumneytown most of his life.

Born Sept. 3, 1928, he was a son of the late Richard and Mary (Bean) Rogers. Following graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1947. In 1953, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

Mr. Rogers spent more than 30 years in the military, retiring in 1979 as a lieutenant colonel. During the Vietnam War, he served two tours of duty as an advisor to the South Vietnamese. He was chief of the Laos-Thailand-Cambodia Section of the U.S. Defense Intellignece Agency, Senior Advisor of the 3rd Battalion, Vietnamese Marine Corps and Assistant U.S. Naval Attache to Thailand and Laos. Among his military awards were the Silver Star, Bronze Star w/V, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and the Vietnamese Honor Medal, First Class.

He was a member of the Canadian Military Collectors Club and a life member of the Naval Institute. He loved animals.

In recent years, he was a partner in The Book Place, a bookstore in Skippack, with his partner and longtime friend, Bannie Stewart.

He is survived by his brother, Charles T. Rogers and his wife, Maureen, of Worcester; four nephews and two nieces.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral services from the R.L. Williams Jr. Funeral Home Inc., Skippack Pike at Cedars Road, Skippack, Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001 at 2 P.M., with the Rev. Thomas E. Byron, officiating. Interment will be in Frieden's United Church of Christ cemetery, Sumneytown. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday afternoon from 1:30 until 2 P.M.

LILLIAN G. FRAME

Lillian G. Frame, 59, of Harleysville, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at her residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Rev. Howard L. Frame.
Born Dec. 13, 1941 in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Emil and Lillian M. (Stecher) Geiger. She grew up in North Hills and graduated from Abington High School.

She worked as a cashier for Acme Markets in Dresher during her working career.

Mrs. Frame was a former member of Carmel Presbyterian Church, where she belonged to the choir.

She is survived by a brother, Adolph Edward Stecher; and her aunt, Catherine Crawford.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Toner.

Relatives and friends are invited to her graveside service, Monday, Aug. 27, at 11 A.M. at Sunset Memorial Park, 333 West County Line Rd., Feasterville. Donations may be made to the Carmel Presbyterian Church, 100 Edgehill Rd., Glenside, PA 19038. Arrangements are by the Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, Willow Grove.

RICHARD N. HECKLER

Richard N. Heckler, 76, of Sellersville, formerly of Telford, was stricken suddenly Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 21, 2001 and taken to Grand View Hospital in West Rockhill Twp., where he died shortly after admittance to the emergency room.
He and his wife, Lenore (Brownlee) Heckler celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on the 18th of June. A resident of Telford for many years, he moved to his current address in Sellersville in 1960.

Born in Telford, he was a son of the late Abram M. and Magdalena C. (Novak) Heckler.

He retired in 1962 from the U.S. Navy, after serving for more than 20 years. Since that time, he was employed by Fischer and Porter Instruments of Warrington for four years. More recently, he was employed as head custodian at Oak Park Elementary School in the North Penn School District. He retired in 1995.

Mr. Heckler was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge No. 1539, Sellersville and the American Legion, Sellersville, Nase Kraft Post No. 255.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard P. Heckler and his wife, Patricia, of Franconia; one grandson, Robert Kerr Jr.; two great-granddaughters, Katarina and Aleisha Kerr; an aunt, Marie L. Bushnell of Sellersville; a nephew, Richard F. Novak of Harleysville; and a niece, Agnes P. Vaughn of Mt. Vernon, NH.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert N. Heckler, in 1982.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, at 11 A.M. in the David R. Sadler Funeral Home, 33 N. Main St., Telford, PA. Interment , Christ Lutheran cemetery, Kulpsville. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 A.M. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made in his memory to the SPCA or the Humane Society of United States, 2100 L Street NW, Washington, DC, 20037.

DONALD C. GARNER
Donald C. Garner, 73, died Wednesday evening, August 22, 2001, in Abington Memorial Hospital. Formerly of the Germantown section of Philadelphia, he moved to Lansdale about 25 years ago.

ELIZABETH KELCZEWSKI
Elizabeth C. (Yoder) Kelczewski, 66, of Gilbertsville, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at her residence. She was the wife of Edward J. Kelczewski.

JOANNE M. KOELMEL
Joanne M. Koelmel, 82, died August 23, 2001 in Elm Terrace Gardens skilled nursing unit, Lansdale, where she resided for the past three years. She was married for 53 years to the late William C. Koelmel, who died in 1995.

HELEN TROPIANO MANDERACHI
Helen (Coroniti) Tropiano Manderachi, 89, died August 23, 2001 in North Penn Hospital.

PETER J. SIGNORE

Peter J. Signore, 67, of Lansdale, died Sunday morning, Aug. 19, 2001, at Fox Chase Cancer Center.
He had been in failing health since April. He was the beloved husband of 45 years of Katherine (Magro) Signore. He had been a resident of Lansdale since 1963.

Born and raised in Ambler, he was a son of the late John and Philomena (Liberto) Signore. He graduated from the former Ambler High School, Class of 1951.

He worked for Clemens Markets as produce manager at the Broad Street, Hillcrest, Spring House, Chal-Brit and Souderton locations. He retired after 34 years in 1996, from the Souderton store.

Mr. Signore was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lansdale.

He was an avid fan of all the sports activities of his grandchildren. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Lansdale.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John Signore and his wife, Kathleen, of Towamencin and Peter J. Signore Jr. and his wife, Marie, of Telford; two  daughters, Barbara J. Sprouls and her husband, Norm, of Harleysville and Patricia L. Capehart of Telford; a brother, John Signore Jr. of Ambler; four sisters, Civia Williams of West Point, Antoinette Williams and her husband, John, of Conshoshocken, Dolly Hejna and her husband, Joseph, and Anna Marie Coble, all of Ambler. He was the loving grandfather of Peter the 3rd, John Jr., Anthony, Jim, Thomas, Amanda, Corey, Daniel, Nicholas and Patrick.

He was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Signore, in 1983.

Funeral services were held at an earlier date. For those desiring, memorial contributions in Pete's name to the Fox Chase Cancer Center, 7701 Burholme Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19111, would be preferred. Arrangements were by the Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home in Lansdale.

CHRISTOPHER RAYMOND BUSTARD

Christopher Raymond Bustard, 21, of Worcester Twp., died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 22, 2001, at his residence after a short illness.
Born March 5, 1980 in Lansdale, he was a son of Charles Raymond and Patricia (Grosch) Bustard.

A graduate of Methacton High School and North Montco Votechnical School, he worked in the family business, C and P Automotive Distribution Company. In addition, he worked parttime at the Harleysville Gulf.

He enjoyed four-wheeling and restoring automobiles.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Heather Rose Bustard of Beltsville, MD; a brother, Jason Michael Bustard of Pottstown; a paternal grandmother, Jeannette Bustard of Worcester; a maternal grandmother, Veronica Cerasi; a maternal stepfather, Verge Cerasi of Ambler; and a maternal grandfather, Myron Grosch of Chalfont.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service in the R.L. Williams Jr. Funeral Home of Skippack Monday, Aug. 27, at 11 AM. Interment , Wentz U.C.C. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

GERTRUDE W. POUNDS
Gertrude W. Pounds, 85, of Lansdale, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, in her home. She was the wife of the late Aaron "Bill" Pounds. Formerly of Flourtown and Conshohocken, she lived in Lansdale for the last 33 years.

MARIAN JEAN COOK

Marian Jean Cook, 83, of Silverdale, formerly of the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia and San Antonio,TX, died Thursday, August 23, 2001, after a short illness in North Penn Hospital, Hatfield Twp. She was the wife of Robert F. Cook. The couple celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary October 13, 2000.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late William and Marian (Kent) O'Leary. She was a graduate of Kensington High School in Philadelphia

In December 1942, she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps and served at Camp Crowder, MO and Fort Hamilton, NY during World War II, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. During the Korean War, she served with the U.S. Air Force Air Transport Command in Germany as a chief payroll clerk with the rank of tech sergeant.

Mrs. Cook was a member of the William E. Hare American Legion Post No. 206 in Lansdale and the Willow Grove V.F.W. Post No. 3612.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her very dear friends, Denise Barsby and her husband, Herb J. III, and their children, Kelli, Kristi and Kimberli Barsby, all of Silverdale.

Family and friends are invited to attend her graveside services to be held Tuesday, August 28, at 11:00 AM at Indiantown Gap National cemetery in Annville. Friends may call Monday evening, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Bernard Suess Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Senior Adult Day Services, 228 Ridge Avenue, Souderton, PA 18964.

WILLIAM K. GODSHALL
William K. Godshall, age 81, of the Souderton Mennonite Homes in Souderton, formerly of Morwood, died Thursday evening, Aug. 23, 2001, in the homes' skilled nursing unit, where he had been a patient since December of 2000.

EMANUEL HENDRICKS

Emanuel "Manny" Hendricks, of Willow Brooke Court, Upper Gwynedd, died Aug. 25, 2001, at the age of 96. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith M. (Fry) Hendricks, in 1994.
Mr. Hendricks was born in Upper Gwynedd and lived in Lansdale most of his life. He was a son of the late Charles and Lydia (Bechtel) Hendricks.

He was a longtime member of United Methodist Church of Lansdale.

Mr. Hendricks is survived by a daughter, Dorothy J. Johnson and her husband, W. Donald, of Harleysville; a son-in-law, John Prokipchak of Upper Gwynedd; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley M. Prokipchak, in 2000; two sisters, Martha Alderfer and Lydia Gehman; and three brothers, Charles, Howard and Eli Hendricks.

Family and friends are invited to attend services Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 10 AM, at the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Derstine and Cannon avenues, Lansdale. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 9 AM. Interment will be at the Whitemarsh Memorial Park. Please omit flowers. Contributions in his name may be made to United Methodist Church Building Fund, 300 N. Broad Street, Lansdale, PA 19446.
