Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

W. RILEY McGAUGHRAN

W. Riley McGaughran, 89, husband of Marian L. (Christy) McGaughran of Holly House at Meadowood in Worcester, died Sunday evening, Aug. 19, 2001 at his residence, following a nine day stay at Mercy Suburban Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. McGaughran were married 53 years. He had lived at Meadowood since January, 1997 and was formerly of Memphis, TN.

Born in Memphis, he was a son of the late Emmett Patrick and Alice Maude (Carpenter) McGaughran. After graduation from Central High School in Memphis, he earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1933 from the former Southwestern College, now known as Rhodes College, in Memphis and his master's degree in chemistry from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM.

He was a retired analytical chemist for the former Merck, Sharp & Dohme, retiring in 1976 after 26 years of service. Prior to that, he worked for Wagner Pharmaceutical Co. of Memphis.

Mr. McGaughran was an active member of Central Schwenkfelder Church since 1953, where he served as a deacon, and a member of both the mission committee and visual aids committee. He also was active with the Christian Business Men's Committee.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Don C. McGaughran of Sante Fe, NM, Gerald P. McGaughran and his wife, Roberta, of Chesapeake Beach, MD and Dr. Alan Lee McGaughran and his wife, Joy, of Blairsville; two  daughters, Sarah I. Leamy and her husband, Mark, of Grove City and Alice Diane McGaughran of Roslyn; two sisters, Margaret Wenzler of Memphis and Virginia Lemmons of Ashville, NC; two brothers, Timothy McGaughran of Sumrall, MS and Seth McGaughran of Celebration, FL; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen and Aileen McGaughran; and two brothers, John and Quentin McGaughran.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service from Central Schwenkfelder Church, Valley Forge Road in Worcester, Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 11 A.M., with Dr. Jack R. Rothenberger, pastor emeritus, officiating. The interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Friends may call at the R.L. Williams Jr. Funeral Home Inc., Skippack Pike at Cedars Road, Skippack, Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 P.M. and at the church, Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 A.M. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Central Schwenkfelder Church, PO Box 67, Worcester, PA 19490.

PETER J. SIGNORE

Peter J. Signore, 67, of Lansdale, died Sunday morning, Aug. 19, 2001, at Fox Chase Cancer Center.
He had been in failing health since April. He was the beloved wife of 45 years of Katherine (Magro) Signore. He had been a resident of Lansdale since 1963.

Born and raised in Ambler, he was a son of the late John and Philomena (Liberto) Signore. He graduated from the former Ambler High School, Class of 1951.

He worked for Clemens Markets as produce manager at the Broad Street, Hillcrest, Spring House, Chal-Brit and Souderton locations. He retired after 34 years in 1996, from the Souderton store.

Mr. Signore was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lansdale.

He was an avid fan of all the sports activities of his grandchildren. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Lansdale.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John Signore and his wife, Kathleen, of Towamencin and Peter J. Signore Jr. and his wife, Marie, of Telford; two  daughters, Barbara J. Sprouls and her husband, Norm, of Harleysville and Patricia L. Capehart of Telford; a brother, John Signore Jr. of Ambler; four sisters, Civia Williams of West Point, Antoinette Williams and her husband, John, of Conshoshocken, Dolly Hejna and her husband, Joseph, and Anna Marie Coble, all of Ambler. He was the loving grandfather of Peter the 3rd, John Jr., Anthony, Jim, Thomas, Amanda, Corey, Daniel, Nicholas and Patrick.

He was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Signore in 1983.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass, Thursday, Aug. 23 at 10 A.M. at St. Stanislaus Church, Main Street and Lansdale Avenue, Lansdale, followed by interment in St. Stanislaus cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday evening, Aug. 22 from 7 to 9 P.M. and Thursday morning, Aug. 23 from 8:30 to 9:45 A.M. at the Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main St., Lansdale. For those desiring, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Pete's name to Fox Chase Cancer Center, 7701 Burholme Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19111, would be preferred.

NANCY A. BARNDT

Nancy A. (Allebach) Barndt, 68, of Souderton, died Tuesday, August 2, 2001, at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Roy B. "Barney" Barndt, in April of 1999.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Those desiring may make memorials in her memory to the Grand View Hospice, 700 Lawn Ave., Sellersville, PA 18960. Arrangements are by the David R. Sadler Funeral Home, Telford.

ELLA CLEMMER
Ella Landes Clemmer, 91, died Thursday, August 2, 2001, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Twp. She was the wife of the late Willis H. Clemmer, who died in 1952. She lived in the Souderton area all her life and moved to the Souderton Mennonite Homes about 1993.

ELIZABETH F. DIEHL

Elizabeth F. (Howison) Diehl, 86, of Telford, died Thursday, August 2, 2001. She was the beloved wife of the late George H. Diehl.
She was the dear sister of Charles Howison and Laura Dischert. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral service Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 11 AM at Victory Fellowship Church in Tylersport, where the family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will be in Faulker Swamp cemetery, New Hanover Twp. Arrangements by the Falco, Caruso & Leonard Funeral Homes, Pennsauken, NJ.

BEVERLY A. GRIGG
Beverly A. Grigg, 60, died Thursday, August 2, 2001, in North Penn Hospital, Hatfield Twp., following a lengthy illness. Formerly of Westford, MA, she lived in the Lansdale area for about 20 years.

PHYLLIS E. POTSON

Phyllis E. Potson, 84, a longtime resident of Lansdale, died Thursday, August 2, 2001, in LifeQuest Nursing Center in Quakertown. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 57 years, Andrew D. Potson, in 1993.
Born in Forest City, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Antionetta (Kelehepka) Prusinski.

Mrs. Potson was a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Lansdale.

She was a loving mother to six children, Lorraine Hoffman and her husband, Allyn, of Lansdale, Gerrie Lear and her husband, Joseph, of Perkasie, Richard Potson and his wife, Ginger, of Chicago, Andrew Potson Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, of Souderton, David Potson and his wife, Gwen, of Fort Collins, CO, Terry Smith and her husband, Kevin, of Elk, CA. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Prusinski and his wife, Betty, of the Manayunk section of Philadelphia; and one sister, Jean Prusinski of New Milford.

She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas, in 1941; one sister, Theresa Galonsky; and two brothers, Joseph and Harry Potson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass Monday, August 6, at 10 AM in St. Stanislaus Church in Lansdale. Interment , St. John Neumann cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 9 to 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (for the Children's Foundation), 34th and Civic Center Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA 19104. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home in Lansdale.

ALICE ANN STEPHENS

Alice Ann Stephens, 76, of Telford, died late Thursday, August 2, 2001, in the skilled nursing unit of the Gwynedd Square Nursing Center in Upper Gwynedd, where she was a patient since May of this year.
Born in Coaldale, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Bonner) Dowling. She was a 1952 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Philadelphia and entered the Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital's School of Nursing in Philadelphia, where she received a degree in 1955.

She was a registered nurse working at the Lutheran Community At Telford for many years.

In the past, she was a Telford Borough councilwoman, Telford mayoral candidate, Democratic committee women and was an active member of the Indian Valley Democrats for many years.

Ms. Stephens was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Hatfield.

She is survived by her friend and companion, Jim Regan of Telford; a son, John H. Stephens and his wife, Arlene, of Perkiomenville; two  daughters, Moira Stephens Smith of Souderton and Meghan Gorman and her husband, John Jay, of Telford; four grandsons, Corey Smith, Evan and Max Gorman and Ian Stephens; and eight nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by twin stillborn  daughters; two sisters, Alice Ann Dowling and Patricia Murphy; and a brothers, John Dowling.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 10:30 AM at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield. Interment , Sellersville cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 AM prior to the Mass. There will not be a viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the Grand View Hospice, 700 Lawn Ave., Sellersville, PA 18960. Arrangements by the David R. Sadler Funeral Home, Telford.

HARRY K. FOESIG

Harry K. Foesig, age 75, of Green Lane, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001 in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Twp.
He was the husband of Joyce T. (Ronan) Foesig.

Born Nov. 21, 1925 in North Wales, he was the son of Harry Foesig of Elm Terrace Gardens in Lansdale and the late Martha M. (Kenyon) Foesig. A graduate of the former North Wales High School, Mr. Foesig was president of both his junior and senior classes. He joined the Merchant Marines during World War II and was active in the D Day Invasion of Normandy.

He started the Harry K. Foesig Sheet Metal business some years prior to working for W.H. Fenstermacher Co. in Lansdale, where he was head of the sheet metal department from 1973 until 1982. In 1982, he re-opened his business which he ran until his retirement in 1988 .

As an avocation, Mr. Foesig kept standard-bred horses which he exercised on his property in Green Lane and transported to either the former Liberty Bell Race Track in Bensalem or Brandywine Race Track in Delaware.

Mr. Foesig was a lifelong member of North Wales Baptist Church, where he once served on the board of trustees. He also was past president of the North Wales Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his mother this past February.

In addition to his wife and  Father, he is survived by a son, Harry K. "Kenny" Foesig Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Green Lane; two  daughters, Sally Bosler of Palm and Lynne Allbaugh of Barto; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He also is survived by his sister, Margaret Adams of Lansdale; three stepdaughters, Kathleen Bieler of Baltimore, MD, Patty Canovan and her husband, Michael, of Ft. Lee, NJ and Michelle Hansen of Sherman, CT; four stepgrandchildren; and his nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to: Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Medical Center Development, 3535 Market Street, Suite 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104-3309, to benefit cancer research. Due notice of his memorial service will be given.

Longenecker Funeral Home in North Wales is entrusted with the arrangements.

MARY E. JOHNSON

Mary Elizabeth Johnson, 94, a resident of Rosemont Presbyterian Village in Rosemont, Delaware County, died August 12, 2001 in the Broomall Presbyterian Village where she was recently admitted.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Linwood Johnson, in 1983.

Born in Bayonne, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Charles O. and Bessie (MacNeille) Anthony and graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1925. She was married in Upper Darby in 1929. She moved to Lansdale in 1959, where she resided until 1981 when she moved to the Rosemont Presbyterian Village.

Mrs. Johnson was a former member and elder at Gwynedd Square Presbyterian Church in Upper Gwynedd, and was presently a member at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Johnson volunteered as a Pink Lady at North Penn Hospital and a Grey Lady for the American Red Cross. She was named the AARP Woman of the Year in 1980. She also participated with Meals on Wheels and volunteered in the gift shop and library at Rosemont.

She also enjoyed knitting for the Salvation Army and as a pastime liked to paint with water colors and play bridge and pinochle.

Surviving are four children, two  daughters, Lois Ann Burns and her husband, Robert P., of Lansdale and Lynn Mary McLaughlin and her husband, Albert E., of Camarillo, CA, and two sons, Neil Ralph Johnson and his wife, Marilyn Cool, of Potsdam, NY and Barent Charles Johnson and his wife, Noreen Nasle, of Oshkosh, WI; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Anthony Loucks.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service Friday, Aug. 17, at 2 PM in the Mansion Ball Room at Rosemont Presbyterian Village. Interment is at the convenience of the family in Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Broomall. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory are preferred to either the Rosemont Friendship Fund, 404 Cheswick Place, Rosemont, PA 19010 or Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr, PA 19010-3599. Arrangements by Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.

THERESA M. MURPHY
Theresa M. "Grammy" Fenerty Murphy of Harleysville, formerly of Philadelphia, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001.

ANNE MARIE RADICIONI

Anne Marie (Marchiani) Radicioni, 61, died August 12, 2001, at her North Wales home.
She was the wife of 40 years of James Radicioni. Formerly of Norristown, she lived in North Wales for 26 years.

Born in Chester, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Anne (Curtis) Marchiani. She was a graduate of Ridley Township High School in Folsom, Class of 1957, where she was a member of the drama club, performed in many school plays and was a cheerleader.

She was an interior decorator for 30 years at the Anne Marie Shop in Plymouth Meeting.

Mrs. Radicioni was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in North Wales.

She was a former member of Drama Tours in Jeffersonville, where she performed in many productions. She and her husband loved dancing.

She is survived by four brothers, Joseph Marchiani and Robert Marchiani both of Colorado, Henry Marchiani and Harry Marchiani, both of Delaware; two sisters, Carol Willet of Reading and Mary E. Maniscalco of North Wales; a godmother, Edith DeStefano of Folsom; and a cousin, Delores Cirillo of Ridley Park, and a sister-in-law, Julie Radatti of Conshohocken, who where both caregivers for Mrs. Radicioni. She is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews; and 18 greatnieces and greatnephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass Thursday at 12 Noon, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 424 S. Main St., North Wales. The visitation hour will be from 11 AM until the time of mass. Entombment in St. Patrick's cemetery, Norristown. Memorial gifts may be made to the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation, Medical Tower Building, Suite 905, 255 S. 17th St., Philadelphia, PA 19103. Arrangements are by the White-Luttrell Funeral Home in Ridley Park.
