Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

THOR M. McROBERTS
Thor Matthew McRoberts, 36, a resident of Good Shepherd Muhlenberg Rehabilitation Center in Bethlehem, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Muhlenberg Hospital in Bethlehem, where he had been admitted to the emergency room, earlier that morning.
Born in Lansdale, he was a son of Lucille F. (Falkner) McRoberts of Souderton and Dr. Terry E. McRoberts of Franconia Twp.
A resident of Lansdale for many years, he resided at Good Shepherd Muhlenberg Rehabilitation Center after becoming disabled from injuries he sustained, when he was struck by a vehicle while walking in North Wales, more than two years ago.
Mr. McRoberts was a member of the 1982 Graduating Class of North Penn High School in Towamencin.
Prior to his accident, he had been employed as a carpenter in the construction industry in the North Penn area, for various builders, including the David Cutler Group and Chris Hawley Inc.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Alli Mello of Hatfield; two sisters, Tracy L. Dell and her husband, Robert J., of Telford and Kelly Ann Interrante and her husband, Joseph, of Reinholds; a brother, Eric S. McRoberts and his wife, Roxanne, of Lancaster; and his paternal grandparents, Earl and Rose (Robertson) McRoberts of Pittsburgh.
The funeral service and interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the David R. Sadler Funeral Home, Telford.

JOHN L. CROSS
John L. Cross, 73, of Lansdale, died Wednesday morning, June 27, 2001, at Mercy Suburban Hospital in East Norriton. He had been in failing health.
Born Oct. 11, 1927 in St. Paul, MN, he was a son of the late Sherman and Martha (Hanson) Cross. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II.
A railroad conductor for 27 years with the former Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central, and Conrail, he retired from Amtrack in 1977.
Mr. Cross was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lansdale and the Moose Lodge of Lansdale.
Surviving is his former wife, Eileen (Christ) Cross of Lansdale; a daughter, Karen M. Cross and her husband, Russell Olsen, of Herndon, VA; four sons, John M. Cross and his wife, Barbara, of Collegeville, Michael J. Cross and his wife, Tammy, and Daniel C. Cross and his wife, Stephanie, all of Souderton and Robert P. Cross and his wife, Denise, of Harleysville; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Gene Cross of Minnesota and Leonard Cross of Wisconsin; and two sisters, Alice Peterson and Lois Bovial both of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick and Michael Cross; and a sister, Evelyn Cross.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass, Monday, July 2, at 10 AM at St. Stanislaus Church, East Main Street and Lansdale Avenue in Lansdale, followed by interment in St. John Neumann cemetery. Friends may call Sunday evening from 7 to 8 PM at the Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main St. in Lansdale, or at St. Stanislaus Church Monday morning from 9 to 9:45 AM. For those desiring, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's name to Christ House, 1717 Columbia Rd., NW, Washington, DC 20091-2803 would be preferred.

DOROTHY G. LAURIE
Dorothy G. "Dottie" Laurie, age 76, of Horsham Twp., died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in St. Mary Manor, Lansdale. She was the loving wife of Donald B. Laurie, to whom she was married for 54 years. The couple resided in Horsham Twp. for 33 years.
Born Dec. 23, 1924 in Paterson, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Otto and Gertrude (Riedel) Rohleder.
Mrs. Laurie belonged to the Church of the Messiah in Gwynedd for the past 33 years and was a dedicated member. She was one of the founders of the church's thrift shop, "Belfry Bargains," but chose to refer to herself as "one of the willing workers." She also belonged to the church's altar guild.
Mrs. Laurie was devoted to her family and friends and loved her home. She enjoyed reading, cooking, discussing current events and traveling. She and her husband, Don, took many wonderful trips together.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Eleanor Laurie Ochotny and her husband, Joseph J., Jr., and their children, Dorothy Rose, Carolyn Laurie, and Joseph Donald, of Montgomery Twp.; her son, Alan J. Laurie and his daughter, Caitlyn Alverta, of Horsham Twp.; her sister, Eleanor Hancock of Edison, NJ; her sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service in the Church of the Messiah, Route 202 in Gwynedd, Saturday, June 30, at 11 AM, where friends may call from 9 to 11 AM. Interment will be in Messiah Churchyard. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the memorial fund of the Church of the Messiah, PO Box 127, Gwynedd, PA 19436. The Longenecker Funeral Home in North Wales is entrusted with arrangements.

WILLIAM G. SCHULER
William G. Schuler, age 79, of Dock Meadows in Hilltown Twp., formerly of Souderton, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill, where he was a medical patient for one week. He had been in failing health for several years.
He and his wife, Elizabeth B. (Bosler) Schuler would have observed their 54th wedding anniversary next February. A resident of Erie Avenue in Souderton for many years, he entered Dock Meadows as a resident in January of 2000.
Born in Finland, PA, he was a son of the late William C. and Florence N. (Gerhart) Schuler. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he served during WW II. He graduated from Ursinus College in Collegeville with an associate degree in business.
Mr. Schuler was employed as vice president of operations of Harleysville Insurance in Harleysville for more than 39 years until his retirement in 1983.
He was an active lifetime member of Christ Reformed Church At Indian Creek in Telford. He served as president of the church consistory, of which he was a member for more than 30 years, and also served on many committees.
Mr. Schuler was a Mason, a member of the MacCalla Lodge No. 596 F. & A.M. in Souderton for more than 50 years and the Grundsow Lodge.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Jeffrey W. Schuler of Macungie, Gary R. Schuler and his wife, B.J., and Rodney G. Schuler and his wife, Kim, all of Telford; two grandchildren, Justin S. and Kelly N. Schuler; a brother, Homer D. Schuler and his wife, Sarah M., of Telford; and three sisters, Doris L. Constanzer and her husband, Wilmer M., of Souderton, Jennie Iles of Lansdale and Helen P. Gerhart and her husband, Paul N., of Telford.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Schuler; one sister, Beatrice F. Yeakel; and an infant sister, Florence Schuler.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 2, at 11 AM in the Christ Reformed Church At Indian Creek, 171 Church Rd., Telford, PA 18969. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to the memorial fund of the above named church. Arrangements are by the David R. Sadler Funeral Home in Telford.

DEAN W. GARRETT
Dean W. Garrett, 77, of Chalfont, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Grand View Hospital. He was the husband of Hope (Treichler) Garrett. They were married for 37 years in April.
Born in Hanover, he was a son of the late Edward and Fannie (Naeuman) Garrett. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served in World War II.
He was employed by Suburban Propane of Montgomeryville for more than 40 years, until retiring in 1988.
Mr. Garrett was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hilltown, where he served on the church council, sang in the choir for many years and was a longtime member of the cemetery board.
His hobbies were fishing, gardening, reading and camping.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Wendy Markut and her husband, Michael, of Atlantic Beach, FL; a son, Duane Garrett of Telford; and one granddaughter, Paige Garrett of Allentown.
Services will be Monday, July 2, at 11 AM at the Kantner Funeral Home, 623 W. Market St. in Perkasie, where friends may call from 10:30 AM until the time of service. Interment , Hilltown Union cemetery, Hilltown. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1530 Augsburg Dr., Line Lexington, PA 18932.

GRACE E. RAMER
Grace Elizabeth Ramer, 73, of Collegeville, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Mercy Suburban Hospital, Norristown. She was the wife of Milton D. Ramer.
Viewing hours will be Monday, July 2, from 7 to 9 PM and Tuesday, July 3, from 1 to 2 PM at Vincent Mennonite Church, 39 Seven Stars Rd., Spring City. The funeral service will be Tuesday at 2 PM at the church. Interment will follow in the Providence Mennonite cemetery, Collegeville. Arrangements by the Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home in Souderton.

HELEN BREUER
Helen (Krause) Breuer, 92, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, in the health care center of Paul's Run Retirement Community, Philadelphia. She was the wife of the late John F. Breuer, who died in 1978. Formerly of Lansdale, she moved to Paul's Run in 1981.
Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Victor and Irma (Sperling) Krause She graduated from the Kensington High School for Girls in 1927.
Following graduation, she worked for more than 14 years for the former Industrial Tape Mills Co. in Philadelphia. She retired in 1960 from the office of the Simco Co. Inc. of Hatfield, where she was employed for more than 15 years.
Mrs. Breuer was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansdale, for more than 40 years and was active in the choir. She was a former member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Kensington, where she served for 19 years as superintendent of the junior department Sunday school.
She served as treasurer of the Auxiliary of the Artman Lutheran Home in Ambler for more than 16 years. She was active in the North Penn Auxiliary of the former Lutheran Home in Germantown. She also served as the chairperson of the worship committee at St. Paul's Run and arranged clergy for the Sunday evening services.
She is survived by two nieces, Irma Black of Town Bank, NJ and Elsie DiNicola of Cape May, NJ; and a brother-in-law, Walter Schorpp also of Paul's Run in Philadelphia.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Irma Mastrangelo, Margaret McBride, Elsie Schorpp and Edith Schnitzer.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service, Thursday, July 5, at 11 AM in the chapel of Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 West Main St., Lansdale PA 19446, where friends may call after 10:30 AM. Interment , George Washington Memorial Park in Plymouth Meeting. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, address above. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home in Lansdale.

LARRY D. HAMILTON
Larry Dean Hamilton, 43, of Red Hill, died Friday, June 29, 2001.
Born Sept. 9, 1957 in Lansdale, he was a son of Regina (Pool) Hamilton, with whom he resided, and the late Kenneth Hamilton.
Larry was an accomplished artist. He owned a 1955 Chevy that he took to car shows, such as the Macungie Wheels of Time for many years.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three brothers, Richard Pool of Harleysville, Steve Hamilton of Pennsburg and Kenneth Hamilton of East Greenville; two sisters, Karen Keeler of Pennsburg and Deborah Liddle of East Greenville, thirteen nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and great-nephews
Memorial services will be Saturday, July 7, at 10 AM at the Falk Funeral Home, 163 Main St., in Pennsburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.

WALTER P. NELSON JR.
Walter P. Nelson Jr., 69, of Hatfield, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, in the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Dolly (DiBonaventura) Nelson.
Born in June 15, 1932 in Abington, he was a son of the late Walter, Sr. and Isabella (Elloitt) Nelson. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Nelson was the owner and president of the former Dresher Mechanical Contractors, which he started in 1968, until his retirement in 1997.
He was a member of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Eastern Pennsylvania since 1968 and served as a member of the board of directors for 12 years. He was also a member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Certified Pipe Welding Bureau, where he served as president from 1975 to 1990 and the United Association of Steamfitters Union Local No. 420 in Philadelphia.
Mr. Nelson was also a member of Hilltown Baptist Church in Hilltown.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two  daughters, Debbie Himmel and her husband, Hugh, of Upper Gwynedd Twp. and Diana L. Kokorsky and her husband, Tony, of Hatfield; a son, Justin D. DiBonaventura and his wife, Charlynne, of Towamencin; eight grandchildren; a sister, Sally M. Kirkbride and her husband, John, of Schwenksville; and a brother, Harry E. Nelson of King of Prussia.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday, from 7 to 9 PM, and Friday, from 9:30 to 11 AM, at the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home Inc., 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike in Ambler, with the funeral service at 11 AM with the Rev. George Lynch, pastor of Hilltown Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Ambler.
Remembrances in his name to Lung Cancer Research c/o Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, 111 S. 11th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107 or Hilltown Baptist Church, PO Box 1, Hilltown, PA 18927 would be appreciated by the family.

GEORGE A. ROSS
George A. Ross, 73, of Souderton, and a longtime area resident, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at his home. He was the husband of Clara Acord Ross.
Born in Lansdale, he was a son of the late Dominick and Helen (Helaskey) Rosnato. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Mr. Ross was employed for 20 years with the former R.T. French's in Franconia Township, until retiring in 1989.
He was a member of the Warren Royer Post No. 234 American Legion in Souderton for more than 50 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post in Hatfield, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5308 in Telford, and Cannoneers Sportsman Club in Lansdale.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three stepchildren, Sandra Kay Whiting and her husband, Kenny, of Michigan, Mary E. Blevins and her husband, Benny, of Hatfield and Vickie L. Jennings and her husband, Emit, of West Virginia; seven stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and an aunt, Irene Hillis of Roslyn.
He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Gloria Wombles, in 1981.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service Tuesday, July 3, at 12 noon, in the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Derstine and Cannon avenues in Lansdale, where friends may call from 11 AM to 12 noon. Interment will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the American Cancer Society, 527 W. Butler Ave., Chalfont, PA 18914 or Grand View Hospice, 700 W. Lawn Ave., Sellersville, PA 18960.

ALVERDA SUPPLEE
Alverda "Margie" (Long) Supplee, age 87, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, in the Masonic Home Health Care Center in Elizabethtown. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Benjamin B. Supplee, in 1985. Mr. and Mrs. Supplee resided at Schwenckfeld Manor in Towamencin from 1979 to 1985, when they moved to the Masonic Homes.
Born and raised in Kulpsville, she was a daughter of the late Irvin C. and Katie Z. (Nyce) Long. A lifelong resident of Montgomery County, she formerly lived in Audubon and Lansdale.
Mrs. Supplee was a member of Lower Providence Baptist Church and was a past president of the Ladies Busy Bee Sunday school class.
She was a member of Norris Penn Chapter No. 181 Order of the Eastern Star of Norristown and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lehigh Consistory.
She is survived by a son, Patrick L. Supplee and his wife, Elizabeth, of Souderton; a daughter, Mary Jane Holly and her husband, Bertram D., Sr., of Lansdale; two grandchildren, Bert Holly Jr. and Roxane Rolon and her husband, Ronald; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by five brothers, Jacob N. Long and his wife, Jessie, of Jeffersonville, Robert N. Long and his wife, Anna, of Souderton, Wilson N. Long and his wife, Beverly, of Lansdale, and Benjamin N. Long and George N. Long and his wife, Nancy, all of North Wales; one sister, Florence Gwalthaney and her husband, Thomas, of Homasassa, FL; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Long of Homasassa and Mary Long of Sellersville.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Long, who died during WW II while serving with the US Navy, Ellsworth Long and Maurice Long; and a sister, Marion Smith.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her service, Thursday, July 5, at 11 AM in the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale, where friends may call after 9:30 AM. Interment , Lower Providence Baptist cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Dr., PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.

HELEN WATTO
Helen (Kashlak) Watto, 78, of Downingtown, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Chester County Hospital in West Chester. She was the wife of the late Paul Watto, who died in 1978. Together they shared 36 years of marriage.
Born in Nesquehoning, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Kashlak.
Mrs. Watto was a homemaker and a seamstress. She taught quilting and seamstress classes.
She was a member of the Downingtown United Methodist Church and a member of the church's Bible study group. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Tamaqua.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis P. Watto of Coatesville and Gerald A. Watto of Montgomeryville; two brothers, Walter Kashlak of Philadelphia and Joseph Kashlak of Hometown; two sisters, Anne Prior of Pottstown and Fannie Comisac of Tamaqua; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew Kashlak and Michael Kashlak; and one sister, Mary Hallahan.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 5, at 10 AM at Downingtown United Methodist Church, 751 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown. Family and friends may call at the church Thursday morning from 9 to 10 AM. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 428 Exton Commons, Exton, PA 19341. Arrangements are being handled by the James J. Terry Funeral Home, Downingtown.
