Thomas Francis Driscoll Jr., 57
Thomas Francis Driscoll Jr., of West Chester, was born to Thomas and Dorothy Driscoll in Philadelphia, on October 16, 1949.
Tommy, later Tom, grew up with his sisters Donna and Diane outside Philadelphia, but also spent time in Chicago, Ill., and briefly Columbus, Ohio. In 1967, Tom graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote, Pennsylvania. During high school he spent his time playing basketball, baseball, football and golf.
After Bishop McDevitt, Tom attended Villanova University, majoring in political science, and joined the United States Navy through the Reserve Officer Training Corps. After his graduation in 1971, he then attended flight school at the Naval Airbase in Pensacola, Fla., and subsequently traveled the world with the Navy throughout the ‘70s. He spent time on ships in Hawaii, Turkey, and the Philippines , before being stationed in Washington, D.C., with day to day operational charge of the Naval Operations Task Assessment Program.
Tom married Darlene Browell in 1977 in the chapel at Villanova University. Afterwards, Lt. Driscoll received an honorable discharge from the Navy in order to dedicate his efforts to building his family. Though no longer in the Navy, Tom remained fiercely patriotic, forever loving his country and the sea.
Tom worked as a property manager, opening and managing malls and properties across the country, in Ill., Utah, Del., Pa. and N.J. His largest project was taking the reins at the Plaza at King of Prussia, which at the time was the largest shopping complex in the country. Tom had two sons, Thomas III and Ryan. He loved them and his wife with all his heart and showed it every day.
As years passed, Tom coached sports more often than playing them, but he still found time for basketball, softball, fishing and even a little bocce when he could.
He coached Little League baseball and C.Y.O. basketball, as well as the Warriors in the youth basketball league for the Phoenixville YMCA over the past 20 years, many of those alongside his son Ryan.
Tom passed suddenly at home on September 25, 2007, at a youthful 57. He is survived by his wife Darlene; his sons Tom and Ryan; his mother Dorothy; and his sisters Donna and Diane; as well as his daughter-in-law Gina; nephews, nieces, numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, friends and loved ones.
Tom loved life, and he loved to laugh. Above all else he loved his family and his country. He always went out of his way to offer help to others. If you needed things fixed, a ride somewhere, or even just friendly advice, Tom was always your man. He never failed to attend to anyone and everyone that needed him, promptly and with no questions asked.
He loved sports, fishing, cars, dogs, playing cards, Irish music, good food and friends. He will be missed by all and will be always loved.
