Lanae Sue Martin, age 8 months, of 14429 Daley Road, Hagerstown, Md. died at 9:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008 at her home. Born Nov. 20, 2007 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of Michael R. and Melanie S. (Martin) Martin of Hagerstown.
Norma Y. Gsell
Norma Y. (Rock) Gsell, 54, of 146 E. Franklin St., Greencastle, died at 5:31 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008 at her home following an extended illness.
Born Oct. 19, 1953 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward A. Rock Sr. and Madeline V. (Johns) Rock.
Mrs. Gsell was a homemaker and previously worked for the former Corning Glass, Greencastle; the Boys & Girls Club, Hagerstown, Md.; Wal Mart, Chambersburg; and Goodwill Industries, Greencastle.
She was a 1971 graduate of the Chambersburg High School.
Mrs. Gsell was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Greencastle.
She was a Life Member of the Greencastle Rescue Hose Co. 1, a member the Franklin/Fulton County Volunteer Firemen's Association and a member of the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association.
Mrs. Gsell was one of the original organizers of the Greencastle AYSO.
She and her husband, Harry J. Gsell Jr., were married Oct. 21, 1972 in Mercersburg.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, H. Jacob (husband of Nicole) Gsell III of Greencastle, and Brian E. (husband of Amanda) Gsell of Chambersburg; a grandson, Riley Jacob Gsell of Greencastle; two sisters, Nancy Worthing of Waterfall and Barbara J. Garland of Chambersburg; three brothers, Joseph C. Rock of Fayetteville, Regis E. Rock and Stephen D. Rock, both of Chambersburg; godchildren, Krista and Justin Rudisill of Gettysburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Caldwell, and a brother, Edward A. Rock Jr.
Services were held the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 15 in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. William DeHass officiating.
Burial followed in the Cedar Hill cemetery, Greencastle.

Tony Lynn Barber, 42, of 297 Lincoln Way W., Apt. 4 Chambersburg, died at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born June 5, 1966 in Chambersburg, he was the son of Juanita K. (Myers) Cordell of Chambersburg and the late Arthur J. Barber.
Beulah M. Kell
Beulah M. Kell, 90, of 1733 Buchanan Trail E., Shady Grove, died at 1:10 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009 in the Waynesboro Hospital. She had been critically ill for the past two weeks. Born April 25, 1918 in Quincy Twp. Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Vertie (Hess) Fox.

Jarvis M. Henson, 92, who lived with his daughter in Odenton, Md. and formerly of 305 East Madison St. Greencastle, died at 4:20 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 in the Heritage Harbour Health And Rehabilitation Center in Annapolis, Md.
Betty J. Myers
Betty J. Myers, 81, of 12299 Malissa Dr., Greencastle, died at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009 in the Waynesboro Hospital. She had been declining in health since January. Born May 7, 1927 in Hagerstown, Md. she was the daughter of the late John William and Mae Irene (Borne) Johnson.
Mabel Irene Horst
Mabel Irene Horst, 90, a resident of the Mennonite Home, 13436 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, Md., died at 1 a.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009 in the home. Born Nov. 7, 1918 in Reid, Md., she was the daughter of the late Abram G. and Susie (Baer) Horst.
Alan L. Johnson
Alan L. Johnson, 52, of 11828 Waxwing Drive, Greencastle, died at 10:38 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, in the Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in failing health since February.
Born Sept. 29, 1956 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late George L. and Margaret E. (Ott) Johnson. He was a life long resident of the Greencastle area.
Mr. Johnson graduated from Greencastle-Antrim High School with the Class of 1974.
He and his wife, Gina M. (Young) Johnson, were married Sept. 16, 1989 in St. Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro. They have lived at their present residence for the past 10 years.
Following his graduation, he worked at Grove Manufacturing in Shady Grove in various positions until 1985. In 1985, he received his CDL license and has been selfemployed as an owner and operator for Schneider National ever since.
Mr. Johnson enjoyed riding ATVs, dirt bikes and motorcycles. He also enjoyed firing various guns.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Zachary A. Johnson, at home; his sister, Sharon Martin of Greencastle; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 22 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington Street, Greencastle, with Rev. David G. Rawley, officiating.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Herman A. McIntyre Jr.
Herman A. "Sam" McIntyre Jr., 67, of 6220 Montgomery Church Road, Greencastle, died at 3:13 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born March 12, 1942 in Westminster, Md., he was the son of Mary E. (Forsythe) McIntyre, a resident of Holly Place of Hagerstown, Md. and the late Herman A. McIntyre Sr.
He was employed for 22 years at Precision Manufacturing and Engineering Co. of Greencastle and also had worked at Rouzerville Fabricating and Welding.
Mr. McIntyre was a member of the Montgomery Brethren In Christ Church near Mercersburg where he helped to drive the church bus.
He enjoyed auto mechanic work, country music, watching western movies and was an avid John Wayne fan.
He and his wife, Dotty P. (Pine) McIntyre were married July 21, 1969 in Hagerstown.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by one son, David A. McIntyre of St. Thomas; one daughter, Susan R. Tercek of Chambersburg; three brothers, Bernard McIntyre, Ron McIntyre and Terry McIntyre, all of Greencastle; two sisters, Christine Beniwal of Hagerstown and Delma Revels of North Carolina; and four grandchildren, David Joshua McIntyre, Tia Marie McIntyre, Kevin Matthew McIntyre and Benjamin Eric Tercek.
In addition to his Father, he was preceded in death by a son, John C. McIntyre on Aug. 24, 2004.
Services were held the afternoon of Tuesday April 21 in Montgomery Brethren In Christ Church, Mercersburg, with Rev. Dennis Ritchey officiating.
Burial following in the adjoining church cemetery.

Catherine M. Cordell
Catherine M. (Burkett) Cordell, 89, of 265 N. Carlisle St., Lot 4, Greencastle, and formerly of 9626 Masters Road, Waynesboro, died at 4:15 a.m., Wednesday, April 15, 2009, in Manorcare Health Services, Chambersburg. She had been in failing health for the past year and critically ill for the last week.
Born Dec. 25, 1919 in Mason-Dixon, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William Russell "Pap" and Ruth V. (Hareford) Burkett. She lived her early life in Coseytown.
Mrs. Cordell attended White Pine School near Greencastle.
She and her husband, the late Charles A. Cordell, were married April 12, 1945, Hagerstown, Md. They moved to their Masters Road address following their marriage. Mr. Cordell died Dec. 1, 2005. She moved to her current residence in December 2007 and entered the nursing home March 28, 2008.
In her early life, Mrs. Cordell was employed as a machine operator for Love Manufacturing. She later was employed as a machine operator for Mont Alto Shoe Factory, Mont Alto and later as a clerk at the HiLo store, Waynesboro.
Mrs. Cordell was a member of Blue Rock United Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro, where she taught Sunday school in the men's and women's class, sang in the choir, was a member of Women's Bible class, Women's Missionary Fellowship where she served as treasurer for many years and Conference Women's Missionary Fellowship where she served as treasurer.
She also was a member of National AARP.
She is survived by her son, Charles E. "Ed" Cordell of Greencastle; one granddaughter, Karen L. Schreffler of Harrisburg; one greatgranddaughter, Keria F. Schreffler; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Martha L. Cordell; and her brother, Henry F. Burkett.
Services were held the morning of Monday, April 20 in Blue Rock United Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro, with Pastor Gregory Helman and Pastor David G. Rawley officiating.
Burial followed in Quincy cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Kenneth E. Bemisderfer
Kenneth E. "Bemi" Bemisderfer, 73 of Greencastle, died April 14, 2009 at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Nov. 24, 1935 in Franklin County, he was the son of Jacob Bemisderfer Sr. and Kathryn Brumbaugh Bemisderfer.
Mr. Bemisderfer served in the U.S. Army for two years and two years in the guards.
He worked at Corning Glass in Greenccastle for 35 years.
Mr. Bemisderfer was one of the last surviving organizers of the Silver Star Saddle Club.
He was an avid horseman and horse showman.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; son Anthony E. Bemisderfer of Greencastle; daughter Marcia E. Bemisderfer of Hagerstown Md.; Andera Bemisderfer of Hagerstown; one brother, Jacob Bemisderfer Jr. of Greencastle; and sisters, Jane Scholz of Peru, Ind., Virgina Lawson of Algonquin, Ill., Joanne Mason of Greer S.C. and Joy Ayers of Raleigh N.C.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Bemisderfer of North Carolina and sister Ruby Pinkerton of Virginia.
Memorial services for family and friends will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be donated to the Waynesboro Hospital.

Dortha Mae Burkett
Dortha Mae (Burger) Burkett, 86, of 833 East Ave., State Line, died Friday morning, April 17, 2009, in her home.
Born March 21, 1923 in Washington County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Bertha (Rhines) Burger. She lived her early life in Washington County.
She and her husband, the late Harry W. "Woodie" Burkett, were married Sept. 21, 1940 in Washington County. Mr. Burkett died May 22, 1995.
Mrs. Burkett was a homemaker.
She attended services at Pleasant Hill United Brethren Church, Greencastle.
Mrs. Burkett enjoyed cooking, baking, and caring for her family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Clara M. Burkett of State Line and Bonnie M. Phillips of Hagerstown; one son, James P. Burkett of State Line; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Barnhart of Greencastle; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters and seven brothers.
Services were held the afternoon of Tuesday, April 21 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Clarence Spangler, officiating.
Burial followed in Pleasant Hill United Brethren Church cemetery.
