J. Allen Martin
J. Allen Martin, 92, a resident of the Coffman Nursing Home for the past several months and formerly of Hagerstown, Md. died Thursday March 20, 2008 in the nursing home.
Born Dec. 26, 1915 in Washington County, Maryland, he was the son of the late J. Harry and Anna (Eshleman) Martin.
He was employed with the Washington County Board Of Education as one of their television teachers and also served the Board Of Education for two years in Nigeria. His last employment was being the director of the Planetarium.
Mr. Martin was a graduate of Goshen College, received his masters degree from Western Maryland College and took post graduate classes at the University Of Maryland.
Mr. Martin was a member of the Cedar Grove Mennonite Church near Greencastle where he served as an elder, Sunday School teacher and helped with the youth in the Young Peoples Literary Society. He was a member of the Maugansville Ruritan Club where he served as secretary for a number of years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He also was a member of the Mennonite Men's Gospel team which sang on local radio stations. He enjoyed astronomy, hiking and photography.
He and his wife, Ida Jo (Witmer) Martin were married Aug. 13, 1939 in Cedar Grove Mennonite Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lynette Frederick of Gaithersburg, Md. and Jeannie Martin of Hagerstown, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Martin, and a sister, Edna Shank.
A memorial service was held the afternoon of Tuesday, March 25 at Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, Greencastle, with Pastor Stephen Fretz officiating.
Burial was in the adjoining church cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the building fund of Cedar Grove Mennonite Church 13343 Williamsport Pike Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Mary N. Blue
Mary N. (Fortney) Blue, 91, of New Market, Va. and formerly of 6931 Rock Hill Road, Waynesboro, died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in the Life Care Nursing Home, New Market.
Born Sept. 27, 1916 in Five Forks, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Mary E. (Peiffer) Fortney. She was a life long resident of the Waynesboro area, until moving to live with her daughter 10 years ago.
Mrs. Blue attended Quincy schools.
She and her husband, the late James Frederick Blue, were married Feb. 22, 1943 in Hagerstown, Md. They moved to Rock Hill Road in 1948. Mr. Blue died Jan. 21, 1991.
Mrs. Blue was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Waynesboro.
Mrs. Blue enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, singing, yodeling, playing the piano and gardening.
She is survived by one daughter, Carola K. Copenhaver of New Market; four grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was the last of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11 in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1 East Fifth St., Waynesboro, with Elder Thomas Hennlein and Rev. Shane Anderson officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 10 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle.
Betsy A. Fleagle
Betsy A. (Snowberger) Fleagle, 76, of 23 Homestead Drive, Greencastle, and formerly of 34 Twin Hill Drive, Waynesboro, died at 5:24 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in Waynesboro Hospital following a brief illness.
Born Dec. 29, 1931 in Washington County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Dean and Thelma Werdebaugh of Pen Mar, Md. In August 1932, Betsy was adopted by Walter S. and Anna (Fox) Snowberger. Following the death of Anna in 1940, Mr. Snowberger later married Mrs. Virginia (Zimmerman) Snowberger, who then became Betsy's step-mother.
Mrs. Fleagle was a graduate of Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1950.
She and her husband of 56 years, Howard E. "Bing" Fleagle, were married Sept. 30, 1951 in Waynesboro Church of the Brethren. They lived at their Twin Hill Drive address for 47 years before moving to their current residence in 2003.
Mrs. Fleagle was employed as a telephone operator for a short time.
She was a member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, past member of Waynesboro Garden Club and past member of Y Gradale Sorority.
Mrs. Fleagle enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Beth Ann Nicholas of Stephens City, Va. and Paula Kay Scott of Centreville, Md.; one son, Stephen C. Fleagle of State College; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Michael L. Snowberger of Orrstown.
Services were held the morning of Friday, April 4 in Waynesboro Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Prudence B. Yelinek officiating.
Burial was in Green Hill cemetery, Waynesboro.

Emily R. Norman
Emily Ruth Norman, 20 of 328 Carolle St. Greencastle, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in her townhouse apartment in Shippensburg from complications of diabetes.
Born July 12, 1987 at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, she was the daughter of Wayne and Margaret S. (Plummer) Norman of 328 Carolle St., Greencastle.
She was currently a student at Harrisburg Area Community College and formerly attended Shippensburg University where she was a member of the university choir.
Miss Norman was a 2005 graduate of the Greencastle- Antrim High School where she was a member of the band, choir, National Honor Society and Indoor Guard.
She was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Sorority at Shippensburg and was a member of the Solomons Evangelical Lutheran Church of Chambersburg.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Melissa C. Norman of Greencastle; maternal grandparents, Richard and Catherine Plummer of Fairless Hills; paternal grandparents, Wayne Sr. and Ellen Norman of Media; boyfriend, Michael Perry of Rolla, Mo.; aunts, uncles and cousins
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Rebecca Norman, in 1981.
A memorial service was held the morning of Saturday, April 5 in Solomons Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, with Rev. Michael E. Allwein officiating.
Burial was in the Emilie Methodist Church cemetery, Levittown, at the convenience of the family.

Lois V. Stine
Lois V. Stine, 74, of 14260 Ridge Road, Waynesboro, died unexpectedly at 12:29 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2008 in the emergency room of the Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Dec. 1, 1933 in Kauffman Station, she was the daughter of the late Marvin W. Mowen and Hazel (Gelsinger) Mowen Shatzer.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Stine had worked at the former Fresh Express and Baer Packing Co. of Greencastle.
She attended the former Broadway School on Ridge Road.
Mrs. Stine enjoyed embroidery, flowers and being with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan.
She and her husband, Charles B. Stine Sr. were married April 10, 1952 in Hagerstown, Md.
In addition to her husband of 56 years, she is survived by two daughters, Linda Kint of Mechanicsville, Md. and Barbara Beaver of Greencastle; three sons, Charles B. Stine Jr. of Mercersburg, Jeffrey L. Stine and Steven C. Stine Sr., both of Waynesboro; two sisters, Patricia Wolfe of Chambersburg and Nancy Helman of Upper Strasburg; four brothers, Jack Mowen of Fayetteville, Harry Mowen of Fort Loudon, L. Frank Mowen and Clifford Mowen, both of Greencastle; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Joan Oberholzer and Darlene Gaston; and a brother, George Mowen.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17 in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, with Rev. David G. Rawley officiating.
Burial will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

William Kiel Bobbitt
William Kiel Bobbitt, 19, of 7745 Kuhn Road, Greencastle, died unexpectedly at 8:34 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008 in California, Pa., where he was a freshman student at the California University of Pennsylvania.
Born Nov. 30, 1988 in Loma Linda, Calif., he was the son of Anthony J. "Tony" and Lori R. (Walker) Bobbitt of Greencastle.
He was a 2007 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School where he was a member of the soccer team, chorus, county chorus, peer group leaders, senior class historian and the drama club where he had leading roles in several drama productions. He served as an announcer and master of ceremonies at various school functions.
He had worked at brothers Pizza and Nevins Furniture, both of Greencastle.
Mr. Bobbitt was a member of the Salem Ridge Mennonite Church of Greencastle and also had attended Antrim Brethren in Christ Church near Chambersburg. He was involved in the church youth groups and on their praise and worship teams. He also was a member of Young Life and served on mission trips to Philadelphia and New York.
Mr. Bobbit was a member of his college Rugby team.
Surviving family in addition to his parents are: two sisters, Katy Bobbitt and Ema Bobbitt, both of Greencastle; paternal grandmother, Shirley Bobbitt of Circleville, Ohio; and several aunts and uncles.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7 in Antrim Brethren In Christ Church, 24 E. Kauffman Rd., Chambersburg, with Pastor Joe Martin officiating.
Burial will be in the Salem Ridge Mennonite Church cemetery near Greencastle.
The family will receive visitors at the church one hour before the service.

Preston C. Meyers
Preston C. Meyers, 84, of 138 East Franklin St., Greencastle, died Friday evening, April 11, 2008 in the emergency room of the Chambersburg Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident earlier that evening on U.S. 11 in Guilford Township near Marion.
Joseph H. Clevenger
Joseph H. Clevenger, 85, of Seymour, Tenn. died April 14, 2008. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., he lived most of his life in Longbranch, N.J. He recently moved to Seymour from Greencastle. Mr. Clevenger was a veteran of World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
Chester Hoover
Chester Field Hoover, 89, a resident of Quincy Village and formerly of 27 W. Baltimore Street, Greencastle, died at 6:10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008 in the nursing home. He was in failing health for the past several months.
Born Nov. 28, 1918 in Saxton, he was the son of the late Elias Elmer and Rebecca E. (Mock) Hoover. He lived his early life in Saxton.
Mr. Hoover attended the Saxton Schools.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in Eastern Mandates and the Western Pacific.
He and his late wife, Mrs. Margaret Helen (Zeger) Hoover, were married on June 23, 1956 in Hagerstown, Md. They moved to the West Baltimore Street address in 1969. Mrs. Hoover died October 19, 1997. Mr. Hoover entered the nursing home on May 7, 2003.
Prior to the military, he worked for his brother Fred Hoover driving truck, hauling paper, wood and elm wood. Following his discharge from the military, he worked at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg as an Army tank repairman for 33 years. He retired in 1978.
Mr. Hoover was a member of First Church of God in Mercersburg and the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post 373 of Greencastle.
He is survived by a son, Chester J. Hoover of Meadville; four step- daughters, Martha Ferrell of Everett, Mary Shuman, Lillie Cordell and Patsy Helfrick, all of Greencastle; a step-son, Nelson Reeder of Greencastle; 17 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 30 step-great-grandchildren; 27 step-great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-greatgreat grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was the last of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Chester Hoover; two twin step-grandchildren, Robert and LeRoy Reeder; five sisters, Rosie Armel, Mary Engle, Flora Hussel, Sarah Walters and Dessie Walters; four brothers, Fred Hoover, Rueben Hoover, Floyd Hoover and Jacob Hoover.
Services were held the morning of Tuesday, May 6 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle with Rev. Floyd E. Myers officiating.
Burial was in St. Thomas cemetery, St. Thomas.
