Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Mrs. Hannah Castle
Hannah M. Castle, 94, of Frederick, died Thursday, Jan. 3. She was the wife of the
late F. Burkhart Castle of 54 years of marriage.
Born Aug. 28, 1913 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Edward E. and
Emma Fout Hall.
Mrs. Castle enjoyed gardening and was very active in the Frederick Community,
having worked as a seamstress at Muse Tailoring and later working as a waitress at
McCroys' Dime Store and Betty's Restaurant. She was also a member of the Citizens
Nursing Home Auxiliary, assisting in sewing crafts for the Christmas Bazaar.
Mrs. Castle is survived by her daughter, Nancy M. Ebner and husband Stephen of
Middletown, sister-in-law Rena Hall and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Castle was preceded in death by her brothers, George E. Sr., William Albert and
Edward B. Hall Sr.
Visitation with family will be Sunday, Jan. 6, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Keeney &
Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.
Graveside services will be held Monday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Mount Olivet
cemetery of Frederick. Reverend Dr. Joseph R. Foster will officiate.
Those attending burial services are asked to meet inside the cemetery entrance at
the FSK Chapel prior to 1:45 p.m.

Mr. Roy Hammel
Mr. Roy Albert Hammel, 57, of Frederick, died suddenly Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at
the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of D. Kay Patterson Hammel.
He was born in Hollidaysburg, Pa., Oct. 19, 1950, and as a son of the late George
Edgar Sr., and Mary Gerttude Wentz Hammel.
Roy was employed as an Electronic Design Engineer for InterTech in Frederick. He
played minor league baseball as a young man and continued his entire life in
coaching for Clover Hill Baseball, Sertoma Basketball, TJAY Football, National Little
League, Frederick Babe Ruth Baseball and the Frederick Heartbreakers, of which
involved all his children. He was a ham radio operator and was an avid Washington
Redskin fan and Baltimore Orioles fan.
Surviving in addition to his wife Kay, are their three children, Jason T. Hammel and
his wife, Jasmin of Smithsburg, Jessica L. Hammel of Frederick, and Elizabeth A.
"Liz" Hammel of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, George E. Hammel Jr. and wife, Betty of
Hollidaysburg, Pa.; three sisters, Zelda Weaver of Hollidaysburg, Pa.; Phyllis Walter
of Claysburg, Pa. and Gloria Weaver and husband, Gary of East Freedom, Pa.; two
grandchildren, Irie Creek Hammel and Jaydra Grant, and many nieces and nephews.
He will also be remembered by his mother and  Father-in-law, Samuel and Eleanor
Patterson of Hollidaysburg, Pa.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Keeney and
Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 4
p.m., at the funeral home. His nephew, Rev. Daniel Hammel, will officiate. Interment
will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heartbreakers Softball
Team, in C/O Terry Burdette, 10029 Pine Tree Road, Woodsboro, MD 21798 or to the

Mrs. Phyllis Hume
Mrs. Phyllis Marie Hume, 47, of Sharpsburg, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Cancer
Treatment Centers of America, Philadelphia, Pa. She was the wife of Raymond H. Hume.
She was born in Frederick on Oct. 9, 1960, as the daughter of Hester L. (Danner) Hiltner, of
Frederick and the late Lawrence Thomas Hiltner. Phyllis attended Frederick High School and
graduated from Gov. Thomas Johnson High School. She also attended Frederick Community
College. She enjoyed photography, genealogy and was a devoted wife and mother and loved her
role as mom and homemaker to her children and family.
Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by five children, Stephanie Hume, Victoria Hume,
Jason Cornell, Joshua Cornell and Ian Patrick Hume, all at home; two sisters, Dawn Orris and
husband Greg, of Frederick and their children, Kristin Brandenburg and husband, Mike and Michael
Orris; a sister, Jo Ann Dennison and husband, Greg of Middletown, and their children Amanda,
Matthew, Phillip and Ryan Dennison.
Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at the Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral
Home, 106 East Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday from the
funeral home. Interment will be private.

Mr. Carroll Strailman Jr.
Mr. Carroll Eugene "Gene" Strailman Jr., 72, of Frederick, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at his
residence. He was the husband of Patricia A. Freed Strailman.
Born in Hagerstown, July 5, 1935, he was a son of the late Carroll Eugene, Sr., and Thelma R.
Milyard Strailman.
Mr. Strailman proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, He worked most of this life
in the automobile repair business, in Washington state, Idaho and retired from the business in
Frederick. He had attended the Calvary United Methodist Church. He was a life member of Bass
Master's, was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed building model airplanes.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Robert Strailman and wife, Debra, and their
children, Robert, Jason and Justin, Eric Strailman, Brenda Singer and husband, Ray, and their
children, Steven and Rodney, Susan White and husband, Clyde and their children, Jennifer, Sean,
Eric Scott, Rachel and Anthony; and eight great-grandchildren; one stepson, Timothy Houck and
wife, Chris and their daughter, Whitney.
Funeral services and interment will be private in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick. Lynn
Munson, will officiate.
Arrangements are by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Online

Mrs. Donna Wood
Mrs. Donna Jean Wood, 64, of Frederick, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 at the College
View Center following an extended illness. She was the wife of George P. Wood Jr.
Born January 28, 1943 in Clinton, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Merle and
Betty Waldron Thompson.
Mrs. Wood was a military wife for 20 years, traveling extensively with her husband.
They settled in the Frederick area in 1980. She enjoyed spending time with her
family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by three children and their
spouses, Cindy Wood and Brice Weddle of Knoxville, George Wood III, and wife,
Patti, of Woodsboro, and Michelle Ferguson and husband, Paul, of Adel, Iowa; and
five grandchildren, Megan and Shaun Wood, Jacob Weddle, and Kyle and Zachary
Ferguson.
Mrs. Wood is also survived by two sisters and four brothers, Billy Thompson, Bobby
Thompson, Barbara Thompson, Donnie Thompson, Carol Hersh, and David Jarrett.
She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Thompson.
Mrs. Wood will also be remembered by Francis and Shelby Morgan, who supported
her and her family during the challenges of the last year.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at the
Keeney and Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. A memorial
service will begin at 7 p.m. with Bishop Merle Lyles officiating.
Interment will be private.

Chapter, 9505 Reisterstown Road, Suite 1 North, Owings Mills, MD 21117.

Mrs. Edna Viola Weddle
Mrs. Edna Viola Weddle, 87, of Frederick, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009.
Born Jan. 26, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Merhl Perkins and Margaret Harris.
Mrs. Weddle was married to the late Paul James Weddle on Nov. 5, 1939. They were married for 49 years
until he passed away on Aug. 21, 1989. She enjoyed cooking for others and built her life around her family.
She is survived by her children, James Richard Weddle and Larry Paul Weddle; and grandchildren, Chad W.
Weddle, Anthony R. Weddle, Charles B. Weddle and Bethany E. Wachter. She is also survived by her
siblings, Mary Heffner, Dorothy Costigan, Jane Wetzel and William H. Perkins; as well as numerous nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Harold Perkins, John Perkins, Marie White, Merhl Perkins and Eva
Bartgis.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at Keeney and Basford Funeral
Home, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of
the funeral home with the Rev. Gene Bartell officiating. Interment will be at Mount Olivet cemetery.

Mrs. Betty Bonner
Betty Mae Bonner, 85, of Frederick, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008. She was the wife of the late
Hobert B. Bonner, who passed away in 1998.
Born Oct. 27, 1922, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Samuel F. and Verna Victoria
Buchanan Davis.
Mrs. Bonner retired from the Maryland School for the Deaf in 1992 after 20 years of services. She
was a member of the Citizen's Nursing Home Auxiliary for more than 25 years. She was also a
member of the Red Bonnet sisters Red Hat group in Frederick, and the Gambrill's Park
Homemakers.
Mrs. Bonner is survived by her sons, Donald Bonner and wife, Carol, of Knoxville; John Bonner and
wife, Vicky, of Keedysville; Bill Bonner and wife, Kathy, of Knoxville; her grandchildren, Caryn
Seward, Christiana Rowland and husband, Jim; David Bonner and wife, Pamela; Mike Bonner and
wife, Doris; Nathan Bonner; Melissa Pentz and husband, Brian; her great-grandchildren, Jasmine
Lindsey, Madison Rowland, Jacob Bonner, and Cassandra and Andruw Pentz.
Mrs. Bonner was preceded in death by her brothers, Ross, Fred and Lorentz Davis and her greatgrandson,
Blake A. Bonner.
Visitation with family will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, May 23, at the
Keeney and Basford P.A. Funeral Home 106 E. Church St. Frederick.
Funeral services will be at 10 p.m. Saturday May 24, from the funeral home. The Rev. John Schildt
will officiate. Interment will be at the Hill Crest Memorial Park in Cumberland. Those wishing to
attend the interment are asked to meet at the cemetery entrance by 1:15 p.m.
Pall bearers for service will be Donald Bonner, Bill Bonner, John Bonner, Dave Bonner, Mike Bonner
and Nathan Bonner.
Honorary pall bearers for service will be Richard Yinger and Jacob Bonner.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Frederick County 1799 P.O. Box 1799
Frederick, MD 21702-1799.

Mrs. Nancy Koogle
Mrs. Nancy Lee Koogle, 76, of Frederick, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Washington Hospital
Center. She was the wife of the late Paul Frederick Koogle Sr. who died in 1985.
Born Aug. 28, 1931 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late William and Marie Bruchey Flair.
Mrs. Koogle was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Rainbow Bells. She enjoyed
spending time with family and friends.
She retired as a line worker at Airpax in Frederick.
Mrs. Koogle is survived by three sons, Robert Koogle and wife, Susan of Walkersvillle, Gerald Koogle
and wife, Susan of Charles Town, and Paul Koogle Jr. of Frederick; eight grandchildren, Melissa
Kaiser, Lori Rickard, Linda Viverette, Amy Hassellhoff, Gerald Koogle Jr., Robert Koogle Jr., Jessica
Walker, and Robert Walker III; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Petty Patterson of Knoxville,
Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Gail Walker; one sister, Madeline Stone; and two
brothers, Charles Flair and Raymond Flair.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Keeney and
Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday,
March 17, from the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Dr. David G. Oravec of Evangelical Lutheran
Church will officiate.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Ms. Cynthia Ambush
Ms. Cynthia Rae "Cindy" Ambush, 57, of New Market, died peacefully with her family by her side Thursday,
Feb. 19, 2009, at her residence, from complications of lung cancer.
She was born Jan. 3, 1952, in Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Ray and Marabelle Green Brandt.
Cindy had worked as an instructional assistant for over 20 years with the Frederick County Public Schools at
Monocacy Middle School and Tuscarora High School and was recently honored by the school systems. She
was also very active with the community, in addition to the schools, also with the City of Frederick. She will
be sadly missed by many friends.
She is survived by three children, Charles Simms Jr., and Amanda Oney, both of Frederick, and Todd Green,
of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Tyler Green, Destiny Simms, Braydon Simms and Ciara Simms.
She will also be remembered by a very special friend, Michelle Bloom, of New Market.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home,
106 E. Church St., Frederick. A celebration of Cindy's life will be shared at 2 p.m.
Interment will be private.

Ambush; Mandy V. Merson Family.

Infant Harmony Ecker
Harmony Ecker, of Frederick, passed into God's arms on Friday, March 27, 2009. She was the daughter of
Jason and Teia Ecker.
Harmony is survived by her siblings, Devin, Jason Jr., Aliza, Isabelle and Kayden; her grandmothers, Emma
Shipley and Dana Lane; her aunts, Karley and April; her uncle, Jeffrey; and many loving cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday April 2, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home,
106 E. Church St., Frederick. Interment will be at the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.
