ELDA MAE (GEARHARD) HANNA

Memorial service for Elda Mae (Gearhard) Hanna, formerly of Brackenridge and Greensburg, will be held Sunday, June 11, at 2 p.m. at the St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg.

ISABEL I. KORCHOK

Isabel I. Korchok, 76, of Winter Haven, Fla., formerly of Jeannette, died Monday, June 5, 2000, in the Beaufont Health Care Center, Richmond, Va. She was born July 27, 1923, in Penn, the daughter of the late Harold C. Sr. and Helen M. Bollinger Kifer. Prior to retirement, she was a manager at K-Mart. She was a member of the Women's Fun Club of Lake Henry Golf Club and a former member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Martin P. Korchok Sr.; a son, Martin P. Korchok Jr.; and a brother, Harold Kifer Jr. She is survived by two daughters , Donna Blauner of Virginia and Paula Veverka and her husband, David, of Jeannette; five grandchildren, Leisa Pacella, David and Daniel Diebel, and Jason and Steven Veverka; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. John Simpson officiating. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.

EDISON E. RICE

Edison E. "Pete" Rice, 83, of Mt. Pleasant RD4, died Monday, June 5, 2000, in the Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. He was born April 3, 1917, in Arnold, Pa., a son of the late Winnifred and Amanda Spiker Rice. He was retired from the former Robertshaw Controls of New Stanton. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Church of God, a charter member of the Bridgeport Sportsmen's Association, member and past president of the Westmoreland County Sportsmen's Association, and received the Mt. Pleasant Citizen of the Year Award. Awards and achievements: Scout Master Key Training Award; Silver Beaver Council Award; Vigil Honor Award, Order of Arrow; Thunderbird Award, Order of Arrow; National Eagle Scout, Scout Master Award; a member of the James E. West Association, the Heritage Society, St. George Religious Award; God and Service Award; the Edison "Pete" Rice Campmaster Building dedicated in his name; and the Woodbadge Trail Award. He helped 80 boys receive Eagle Scout awards and spent 32 years as Scout Master of Troop 133 and three years as Cub Master of Troop 133. He was committee chairman of Troop and Pack 133. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Rice; and a half brother, John S. Dittmore. He is survived by a brother, Charles Rice of Tarrs; and a very dear friend, Ben Piper of Mt. Pleasant. Friends will be received at the LUTHER J. GRIMM FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Pleasant, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 9 p.m. with the Rev. Charles W. Yost officiating and assisted by the Rev. Dean Griffith. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Boy Scouts of America, 2 Garden Center, Greensburg, PA 15601.

WILLIAM SAPANARA SR.

William Sapanara Sr., 74, of Connellsville, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, in the UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Friday at noon in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:30 p.m. in St. Rita Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. Frank Lesniowski as celebrant. A committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. A parish wake service will be held Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

RAYMOND E. VECCHIO, M.D.

Raymond E. Vecchio, M.D., 90, a resident of Novato, Calif., formerly of Highland Park, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at Novato Community Hospital. He was born Jan. 15, 1910, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Angelo and Margharitta Vecchio. Dr. Vecchio practiced medicine in the South Hills for over 50 years and was a staff physician at the South Side and Jefferson hospitals. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria E. Vecchio. He is survived by a son, Edmund Vecchio; three daughters , Margaret Betts and her husband, Michael, Jane Roebuck and her husband, James, and Roberta Riccelli and her husband, Joseph; eight grandchildren, Raymond, Joseph, Alexandra, Gino, James, Mauria, Nicole and Jon; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Salvatore Vecchio; and a sister, Elmina Iodice. A memorial service will be held at the Allegheny Cemetery, Temple of Memories, 4734 Butler St., Saturday, June 10, at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dr. Vecchio's name to the American Diabetes Association.

ROBERT C. WATTERS

Robert C. Watters, 72, of Everson, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 6, 2000, in the Lewis Stokes Veterans Hospital (Cuyahoga County), Cleveland, Ohio. Bob's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale, with the Rev. Emil S. Payer as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Parish Cemetery with full military honors conducted at graveside by the Southmoreland Veterans Association. Members of the Everson Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a private memorial service Thursday at 6 p.m. in the funeral home. A parish wake service will be held Thursday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

EUGENE C. BURCHELL
Eugene C. Burchell, 76, of North Huntingdon, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, in UPMC McKeesport. He was born Dec. 28, 1923, in Washington , Pa., a son of the late Clyde and Alice Burchell. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a brakeman by Union Railroad. He was a member of Sampson's Mills Presbyterian Church in White Oak and was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters , Bonnie Blake and Carol Dube; and a brother, James Burchell. He is survived by his wife, Grace Ritchie Burchell; a son, William Forbes of Ruffsdale; a brother, Melvin Burchell; three sisters , Evelyn Kolich, Lorraine O'Neil and Laverne Hurley; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, followed by interment in Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park.

LARRY W. HEINO

Larry W. "Buddy" Heino, 48, of Dunlevy, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, in the Integrated Health Services of Greensburg. Born in North Charleroi, March 22, 1952, a son of Helen Zadrozny Heino, with whom he made his home, and the late Leonard T. Heino, who died April 30, 1996. He was a member of the Roscoe Sportsmen's Club, the Allenport Rod and Gun Club, and the Dunlevy Hunting Camp. He was a lifelong resident of Dunlevy and an employee of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant, as a crane operator. Graduate of Charleroi High School in 1971, where he was a member of the soccer team. In addition to his mother , he is survived by two brothers , Leonard D. Heino and his wife, Kathleen, of Long Branch and Jeffrey W. Heino of Dunlevy; three nieces, Lisa, Lindsey and Christina Heino; also survived by several aunts and uncles. Friends will be received at the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services from the funeral home Monday at 11:30 a.m. with Father Felix Pyzowski, of the St. Joseph's Mission Parish in Fairhope, officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.

JEAN K. LEHMAN

Jean K. Lehman, 79, of White hall, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000. Wife of the late Robert B. Lehman. mother of Patricia L. Mayhew, Richard K., James E. and the late Robert C. Lehman. Grandmother of Matt Mayhew, Michelle Martin, David Lehman, Julianne Wiley and Kelly Lehman; and five great-granddaughters. Sister of John King of Warren, Ohio, and the late Patricia Henry. Jean was a graduate of the University of Miami, Oxford, Ohio, and was an avid volunteer for many years at BCUMC and will be sadly missed. Friends received at the JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME INC., 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be private. Memorial services will be held Friday, June 23, at 11 a.m. in Baldwin Community United Methodist Church. If desired, family suggests contributions to a charity of one's choice or BCUMC Memorial Fund.

IDA MAESTROLE

Ida Maestrole, 77, of Latrobe, died Thursday, June 8, 2000. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Latrobe. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township. A complete obituary will follow in tomorrow's edition.

DANIEL L. MULLEN JR.

Daniel L. "Moons" Mullen Jr., 37, of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. He was born July 15, 1962, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of Patricia Hurst Mullen of Mt. Pleasant and the late Daniel Lee Mullen Sr. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant Area High School in 1980. He was employed by the L.E. Smith Glass Co. of Mt. Pleasant and also by the Pennsylvania State Liquor Control Board. He was a member of the American Flint Glassworkers Union, B.P.O. Elks #868 of Mt. Pleasant, and a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant. In addition to his Father , he was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Edison Hurst; and paternal grandparents, Charles and Evelyn Mullen. In addition to his mother , he is survived by two sisters , Lisa Amarose and her husband, Edward, of Atlas, Pa., and Linda Summy and her husband, Robert, of Mt. Pleasant; two nephews, Lucas Charles and Lee Daniel Amarose; maternal grandmother, Betty Hurst of Mt. Pleasant; and his special friend, Mary DePalm, of Acme and her children, Paul, Alicia, Jake, and Anita. Friends will be received at the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X R.C. Church, Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Michael Matusak and the Rev. Sam Lamendola concelebrating. Interment will follow in St. Pius X Parish Cemetery. A parish wake service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. and the B.P.O. Elks will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, both in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Neuro-Trauma Unit of UPMC Health System, c/o Doreen J. Konop, 4G Trauma I.C.U., University Trauma Center, Pittsburgh, Pa.

MARGARET JOAN MYERS

Margaret Joan Myers, 69, of Jeannette, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at her home. She was born in Jeannette, Jan. 26, 1931, a daughter of the late Roy F. Sr. and Marjetta Shrader Myers. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Jeannette and the AARP of Jeannette. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Myers; and a brother, Morris Myers. Survived by a son, Eugene of Jeannette; two daughters , Elizabeth "Betsy" Myers of Jeannette and Karan Cerutti and her husband, Pat Stallings, of Springfield, Va.; three grandchildren, David, Theresa, and Jeremy Stallings of Virginia; a brother, Roy F. Myers of Jeannette; and a sister, Marietta Snyder of Jeannette. Friends will be received at the LAWRENCE J. McCLURE FUNERAL HOME, 112 N. Second St., Jeannette, Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Daniel Defassio officiating. Private interment will be in Brush Creek Cemetery, Hempfield Township.

GLENN H. NEWMAN JR.

Glenn H. Newman Jr., 82, of West Newton, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at home. Born April 10, 1918, in Clarksburg, W.Va., he was a son of the late Glenn H. Sr. and Mary Westfall Newman. Prior to retirement, he had been employed as a coal miner by Republic Steel Co., Banning Mine. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg; VFW Post 7812, American Legion Post 401 and the Sportsmen's Club, all of West Newton; and the United Mine Workers of America. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Loughner) Newman, in 1997; and a brother, Paul Newman, who was killed in action during World War II. He is survived by three children, Dr. Thomas L. Newman and his wife, Judy, of Bucks County, John Newman at home, and Kristine Samloff and her husband, Andrew, of Greensburg; eight grandchildren, Tom Newman Jr. and his wife, Karen, Sean, Ryan, Erin, Colleen and Marcie Newman, and Allison and Andrea Samloff; a great-grandson, Aiden Glenn Newman; a sister, Sarah Lariccia of Monessen; and a brother, David Newman of Spokane, Wash. Friends will be received at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg, with the Rev. Robert Wilson officiating. Everyone go directly to church. Interment in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Greensburg or the American Cancer Society.

WILLIAM R. RYDER

William R. Ryder, 71, of Washington Township, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Jan. 11, 1929, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Harold T. Ryder and Aline Beggs Kudla. He lived in Washington Township for the past 27 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He had been employed by J&L Steel Company in Pittsburgh as a bricklayer and by Giant Eagle in Tarentum as a maintenance person, retiring in 1998. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Mary Helen Ryder; three daughters , Merrilee C. Gilbert of Butler, Kimberly A. Williams of Apalachin, N.Y., and Lynn A. Ryder of Tampa, Fla.; a son, William H. Ryder of Gainesville, Va.; and two grandchildren. Friends will be received Sunday, June 11, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME INC., 100 Owens View Drive, Apollo, where services will be held Monday at noon. Interment in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
